SAKMAR, STEPHEN ANTHONY Age 80, August 16, 2000 (Feast Day of St. Stephen of Hungary). Beloved husband of the late Olga Erma Manfredi Sakmar. Adored father of Ermelinda, Charles Anthony and Margaret Ann. Darling grandfather of Ermelinda, Nicole & Cameron. Wonderful father-in-law of Stan Spencer & Nasser Saghaiepour. Loving brother of Sister Ann Mary & John (Joan) Sakmar; & the late Peter, Joseph & Frank Sakmar. Dearest thanks to Char (the special person in son Charlie's life) for her devotion & delicious meals. Born July 31, 1920 to Cecilia Benci Sakmar & Joseph Sakmar in Detroit, MI. Steve's laugh was always heard far & wide! He loved his life which first & foremost included singing at Mass in Sister Carmen's Choir at St. Mel's Catholic Church. He also loved to play golf, & upon retirement in 1980, worked each summer as a "starter" at Warren Valley Golf Course. Steve loved & was friends with many of the animals who made the golf course their home, especially "Herman the Goose". Steve was also greatly loved by the feline members of our family: Jakee, Junie, Pehdy, Pascal & Erlichman. After Olga's death on Jan. 10, 1987, Steve spent the winter months golfing in Florida with a host of dear friends, who last included Mr. & Mrs. John Holowicki. Steve was involved in numerous church & social activities. He always had a busy agenda & could never sit still. Steve worked for Montgomery Ward as a Retail Sales Manager, & retired after 35 years in 1980. Steve died of an aggressive form of Leukemia, within a few weeks time. Steve's family & friends will dearly miss his great energy, enthusiasm, optimism, strength, & work ethic, but, above all, his laugh. A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor at St. Mel's Catholic Church on August 26 at 11AM, (313- 274-0685); dinner immediately following at DeLuca's Restaurant (734-422-8900), in celebration of his new life.
