Mr. Kenneth Lysiak
Mr. Kenneth P. Lysiak, 45 of Gaylord died Tuesday, February 3, 2004. Ken was born in Paterson, New Jersey on March 17. 1958, the son of Anthony & Dolores (VonGenichten) Lysiak. He was raised in Paterson, NJ and was a graduate of East Side High School. In 1977 he moved to Detroit. On May 9, 1987 in Waterford, he married the former Cynthia Vaught, who survives. They later moved to Clarkston, where they lived until 1991 when they moved to Gaylord. He had previously worked for Listvan Plumbing & Heating and was currently employed with Family Heating & Cooling. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing and just spending time with his son, Anthony. He is survived by his wife, Cindi; son, Anthony; mother, Dolores Lysiak; brother and sisters; Garrett (Diane) of Minnesota, Dennis (Susan) of Florida, Robert of New Jersey, Marylynn Lysiak of New Jersey, Deborah (Joseph) Kenney of New Jersey; mother-in-law, Helen Williams of Michigan; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony in 1999. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Anthony Lysiak Trust Fund, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mrs. Valeria "Toots" Moore
Valeria "Toots" M. Moore, 81, of Gaylord, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Moore was born on Feb. 19, 1922 in Bagley Twp., and was a lifetime Gaylord resident. On July 27, 1940, she married her husband Francis W. Moore in Gaylord. She was an avid collector of unicorns, loved her Dobermans, and also enjoyed to read and watch the birds in her back yard. Most importantly, however, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Surviving is her husband of 63 years, Francis "Bill"; sons Steven (Shirley) of Interlochen and Paul (Karen) of Ionia. She was also the grandmother of seven; great-grandmother of 10; and great-great-grandmother of six. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert and a sister, Louise. Private graveside services will be held in the spring at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Memorial contributions may be made to the family through the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Kent Odykirk
Kent Odykirk, 35, of Vanderbilt, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004. Kent was born Feb. 7, 1968 in Flint, Mich., and lived in Vanderbilt for the past 18 years. He attended Mt. Morris High School, and was enlisted in the Navy for two years. He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Gaylord, and also the Vanderbilt Community Church. He enjoyed music and reading. He is survived by his sister, Christa Odykirk of Gaylord; his mother, Sharon (Don) Ostrom of Gaylord; his stepmother, Thelma Odykirk of Vanderbilt; half sisters, Robin (Robert) Henry of Davison, Cheryl Gulledge of Clewiston, Fla., Debbie Sides of Holiday, Fla., and Jody Parkman of Vanderbilt; half brothers, Robert L. Odykirk II of Burton, and Dean Gulledge of Flint; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Martin of Fenton; and aunt, Connie O'Brien of Flint. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Odykirk, and half sister Lisa Marie Odykirk. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, Jan. 7) at 1 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, the Rev. Frederick Nose officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. The family all loved him very much, and will miss him daily.

Mr. Samuel Ordiway
Mr. Samuel L. Ordiway, 80 of Gaylord died Wednesday, February `11, 2004 at his home. Mr. Ordiway was born in Gladwin on March 30, 1923. He had spent most of his life in Pickford and moved to Gaylord 18 years ago. He was a veteran of the United States Army and spent 2 years overseas. Mr. Ordiway was a kind, loving man who enjoyed fishing with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Joann “Caroline”; 3 children, Alan David (Sharon Strait) of Holt, Christine (Rod) Nettleton of Dimondale, Michael (Wendy Morgridge) of Mancelona; 6 grandchildren, Tim & Tony Nettleton, Matt & Mitch Ordiway, Amanda & Jeremiah Ordiway; 3 great-grandchildren, Thackston, Corrinne & Derek; 1 brother, Luther of Sault Ste, Marie. He was preceded in death by his brother Duane. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 3 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Michigan, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mr. Jessie F. Perry
Jessie F. Perry, 60, of Gaylord died Thursday, November 27, 2003. Mr. Perry was born in Emerson, KY on October 11, 1943. At the age of 15 he moved to Michigan (Southgate) and was employed with Firestone for 17 years, retiring in 1982. He was also a landscaper during the summer months. He had been living in Gaylord since 1989. Mr. Perry’s hobbies included hunting. He is survived by two children, Roger (Babette) Perry of Elmira and Melinda Huff of Johannesburg; two grandchildren, Alicia and Christopher Huff; brothers, Kenny (Ilene), Floyd, and Ronnie (Ann) Perry all of Kentucky; sister, Lee (Tony) Estes of Belleville; 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl & Cova Perry; his brothers, Gary, Allen, and Junior Perry; and his sister Odlene Conley. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, December 1, 2003 at 6 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. Denny Freeman, officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1 PM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Jessie Perry through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Ivan Renkiewicz
Ivan M. Renkiewicz, 45 of Gaylord died Sunday, November 30, 2003. Ivan was born in Gaylord on March 7, 1958. He was a 1977 graduate of Gaylord High School and was currently working for H & H Tube in Vanderbilt, as well as running the family farm with his brothers. On September 11, 1993 he married the former Kathy Bisson. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of two bowling teams, including Renkiewicz Farms, a team that also included two of his brothers. He loved to bowl and was working toward his 3rd 300 game. Ivan also enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver Jeff Gordon. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and a 3rd and 4th degree member of St. Mary Knights of Columbus. Ivan is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter, Alice; sons, Dylan and Devyn; his parents, Anthony and Regina of Gaylord; his sister, Harriet Smith; brothers, Albert, Larry (Carol), Arnie (Janet), Neal (Myken), Chris (Gail), Philip, Bob, and Brian (Kimberly). FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 12-8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church beginning at 10 a.m. St. Mary Knights of Columbus will offer a rosary Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Renkiewicz family through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mrs. Marie Sandberg
Marie Sandberg, 75 of Gaylord died Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mrs. Sandberg was born in Detroit on February 19, 1928 and was raised in the Detroit area. She graduated from Dearborn High School and went on to attend Michigan State University where she met her husband, Donald, on October 5, 1945. In 1949 Mrs. Sandberg graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and on August 20, 1949 she married Donald Sandberg, at Martha Mary Chapel in Greenfield Village. The couple lived in Lansing, Battle Creek and Redford Township before moving to Gaylord in 1963. Mrs. Sandberg taught 1 year at Gaylord St. Mary’s and 21 years at the Gaylord Community Schools (South Maple), retiring in June of 1985. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and the Gaylord Country Club. She loved to play golf, cross-country ski and bowl on the Sunday night couples bowling league. She enjoyed reading, sewing and various crafts. Throughout her life, she was a great influence to many people. Mrs. Sandberg is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, Don (Karen) of St. Ignace, David (Carol) of Ohio, Mary (John) Reed of Gaylord; her mother, Mary Nowlin of Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Amy (Gene) Flanagan of Illinois, Renee Sandberg of North Carolina, Kristin Sandberg of Farmington, Kelly Sandberg of Ohio, Jessie Sandberg of Gaylord, Erin Reed of Gaylord, Brandon Reed of Mattawan. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6th at 11:00 a.m. from St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Rev. Gerald Rehagen, officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mr. Jack Trip
Jack C. Tripp, age 54 of Gaylord died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004. Mr. Tripp was born on Jan. 16, 1950 in Grand Rapids, MI., where he lived the majority of his life, and also married the former Jean Applegate on July 12, 1969. He moved to Lake Arrowhead in 1985, and is part owner of the James N. Tripp Concrete and Construction Inc. Company. He was a dedicated Detroit Lions football fan, enjoyed listening to the “oldies” style of music, and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Most importantly, he loved his grandchildren, and especially his work. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 6th at 1:00 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc., Pastor Thomas Mammoser officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from noon until the time of service. Mr. Tripp is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Teresa (Mark) Robideau of Gaylord, Martin of Gaylord, Mike (Kristina Hyde) of Gaylord, and William. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Martin II, and Eric Tripp, Madison Tripp, Katie Phillips; 2 brothers, Michael Tripp of Gaylord, and William (Heather) Tripp of Grand Rapids. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Dolma Tripp. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. or the American Cancer Society through the Nelson Funeral Home, Inc.

Mr. Frederick Weissel
Frederick C. Weissel, 61 of Mount Pleasant died Saturday, December 13, 2003 at the Mount Pleasant Center. Mr. Weissel was born in Highland Park on March 18, 1942 the son of Frederick & Ivaleen (Knack) Weissel. Mr. Weissel is survived by many members of the Whyte and Knack families including his aunt, Elizabeth Whyte of Gaylord; cousins, John Knack and Bill Whyte of Gaylord, and Louis Knack of Grayling. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord.

Miss Susan Elizabeth Woodhams
Susan Elizabeth Woodhams, 52, died Sunday, November 23, 2003 in Saginaw. Born in Petoskey on December 12, 1950, she was the daughter of Leo and Gertrude Woodhams. She lived in Gaylord for many years and for the past several years she resided at the Pack Home in Saginaw where she was cared for by Janice Pack. Surviving are two sisters, Anne del Pino of FL and Jane Lawrence of PA; also nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, December 1, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, the Rev. John Naile will officiate. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Sunday from 7 until 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, 135 N. Center, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mr. Henry "Hank" Blahut
Henry Albert Blahut, 79, of Gaylord, died Saturday, February 14, 2004. He was born on October 3, 1924 in Detroit, the son of Joseph and Mary Blahut. He was one of four brothers. In May of 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant, 63rd Infantry Division. He served throughout the European theatre, particularly the Rhineland of Central Europe. After his discharge, he married Irene Miller, on May 7, 1949 in Detroit. He attended a trade school where he learned masonry and upholstery. He decided to settle on upholstering as an occupation and went on to work for Living Rooms Inc. of Detroit. After a few years he started his own business called Style Center Upholstering. In 1969, the family decided to move north to Gaylord. He established his business, Style Center Upholstering, where he did reupholstering for 33 years. Hank enjoyed fishing, playing cards, trips to the casino with Irene and especially loved playing and watching the game of golf. He was a long time member of the Gaylord Country Club. Surviving is his wife, Irene; his daughter, Nancy (David) Counsil of Gaylord; 2 grandchildren, Lindsay and Eric Counsil; his brothers, George Blahut of Houghton Lake and Emil Blahut of Florida; his sister-in-law, Mary Miller of Farmington; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Blahut; brother-in-law, Ray Miller; and sisters-in-law, Grace, Josie and Marge Blahut. A memorial is being planned for the spring with a military service graveside at Resurrection cemetery. Arrangements handled by Nelson Funeral Home.

Miss Alexis Blanzy
Alexis Raneigh Blanzy, age 3 months of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004. She was born on Nov. 3, 2003 in Petoskey. Her mother and father Jeff & Jennifer Blanzy, her sister Taylor of Gaylord, aunt Kristin Johnston of Gaylord, and uncle John Jr. & Debbie Blanzy of Ilinois survive her. Also surviving are her grandparents: Ron Szczepaniak (Kelly Kirby) of Atlanta, Dawn Johnston (Shane Johnson) of St. Clair Shores, John & Kay Blanzy of Hillman, great-grandparents; Gerald Blanzy of Ortonville, Irene (George) McCutcheon of Gaylord, Julie (Ivan) Polus of Montana, and Great-great grandmother Gladys Szczepaniak of Elmira. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Terrie Blanzy. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 13th at 2:00 pm from the Evangelical Free Church, Pastor Joe Sereno officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. until noon, and at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the SIDS Research Foundation through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lucille Boughner
Mrs. Lucille E. Boughner, 74 of Gaylord died Monday, February 2, 2004 at her home. Mrs. Boughner was born in Otsego County on April 3, 1929 the daughter of Ira & Mary (Davis) House. Lucille had worked in the Treasurer’s office in the Otsego County Courthouse for many years and was instrumental in the development of the Description Department of Equalization. She had served as the Dover Township Treasurer for 29 years, was an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary, a member of RSVP for 15 years, a member of the Senior Citizens and a certified volunteer at McReynolds Hall. She was very active with local veterans and senior citizens by helping them file taxes. Most important in Lucille’s life was family. She also loved playing cards and the slots. On February 14, 1948 she married Harry Boughner, who preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by her children, Iris (John) Parrott of Indian River, Don (Phyllis) Boughner of Sparr, Tom (Barbara) Boughner of Sparr; grandchildren, Donna Boughner, Alan (Jennifer) Boughner, Sara Parrott, Tina (Dave) Butler, Carie (Mike) Fitchhorn, Candice (Jerry) Boden, and Jason (Shawnia) Parrott; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Troy, Grace, Shianne, Jeremiah, Tiffany, Garret, Justin, Collin and Hannah; brothers and sisters, Blanche Montgomery of Sparr, Irene Siefert of Algonac, Lillian (Doug) Wilks of Charlevoix, Vernon (Maryetta) House of Sparr, Augustus “Gus” (Gloria) House of Sparr; aunts, Marcelle House and Lelia Matusik. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord. Burial will take place in the spring at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Wednesday 4-9 p.m., Thursday 1-9 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. An Eagles Auxiliary service will be held Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a VFW Auxiliary service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either Amicare Hospice, First Congregational Church or to the charity of your choice through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
