Mr. Robert J. Cole
Robert J. Cole, 70 of Gaylord and formerly of Twin Lakes, Mancelona died Sunday, January 25, 2004. Mr. Cole was born in Northville, Michigan on May 2, 1933 ad had been a longtime resident of the Northville area. He later moved to Mancelona where he owned The Hideaway Bar for 25 years. He had been living in Gaylord for s short time. Mr. Cole was a member of the Elks Lodge. Visitation will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord on Wednesday beginning at 12 PM and concluding at 7 PM with an Elks Lodge memorial service. Mr. Cole, a very devoted father, is survived by his children, Brad (Wendy) Cole of Northville, Melanie Cole of Northville, Guy Cole of Mancelona, Ty Cole of Howell; and several grandchildren. Mrs. MaryEllen Delaney
MaryEllen Delaney, age 63 of Gaylord died Saturday, February 21, 2004, at her home. MaryEllen was born on October 26, 1940 in Bad Axe, MI., but lived the majority of her life in Gaylord. She graduated from Gaylord St. Mary High School in 1958, and was currently employed with Honeywell Industries in Boyne City where she has been for the past 27 years. She is survived by her 10 children, Michelle (Eric) Sulak of East Jordan, Gary and David, both of N. Dakota, Samuel (Cheryl) of Illinois, Kevin (Missy) of Virginia, Renee Kowalski of Elmira, Michael of Gaylord, Trent of Grand Rapids, Brian (Stacey) of Mancelona, Wesley of Gaylord. Also surviving is her mother, Rose Kresic of Gaylord; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Shirley Bronson, and Sharon (Don) Heacock, both of Gaylord. Mrs. Helen A. Dipzinski
Helen A. Dipzinski, 92 of Gaylord died Friday, January 30, 2004 at McReynolds Hall. Mrs. Dipzinski was born in Gaylord on March 21, 1911, the daughter of Joseph & Antonia (Muzyl) Zimbicki. She had lived and worked in Detroit for 20 years and returned to the Gaylord area in the early 1950’s. Mrs. Dipzinski was retired from the dietary department at Otsego Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and St. Mary Altar Rosary Society. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, quilting and playing cards. Mrs. Dipzinski is survived by her children, Mitchell F. (Jane) of Comins, Charles (Marjorie) of Gaylord, Robert (Frances) of Gaylord, Philip (Beth) of Gaylord; 16 grandchildren, Charlene, Rachelle, Mindy, Yvonne, Robert, Carol, John, Matthew, Steven, Andrew, Kimberly, Joseph, Kresta, Joshua, Jacob and Karlee; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Tony (Mary) Zimbicki of Gaylord, Stanley (Mary Jane) Zimbicki of Gaylord, Lewis (Peggy) Zimbicki of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Mitchell “Mack” in 1980 and her son, Jerome “George”. Her brothers John, Frank, Walter, Bruno and Pete also preceded her in death. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, February 2, 2004 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 3-8 PM and on Monday at the cathedral beginning at 9:30 AM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a rosary Sunday afternoon at 3 PM followed by a parish wake service at 7 PM. Mrs. Fran Evert
Mrs. Frances E. Evert, 84 of Gaylord died on Friday, February 13, 2004 at Aspen Ridge. She was born in Hartland, MI on September 15, 1919 and had lived most of her life in Fenton. She was a member of the Michaywe First Presbyterian Church, a lifetime member of the Chrysanthemum Chapter #114 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Otsego County Historical Society. She enjoyed photography, cooking and sewing and was an avid card player. On October 12, 1940 in Fenton she married her husband Ralph Evert, who survives. She is also survived by 2 daughters, Yolanda (Robert) Waldie of Charlevoix and Charlene (Donald) Roman of California; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence and Hugh Irvin; and her sister, Noline Richmond. An Eastern Star service will be held on Monday, February 16th at 3:45 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 4:30 p.m., the Reverend Mary McClure, officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Howard H. Helwig
Howard H. Helwig, 88 longtime resident of Traverse City died Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Munson Medical Center. Mr. Helwig was born in Wolverine on August 29, 1915 and was raised in Wolverine. While living in Traverse City he worked for a bowling alley and after retirement worked as a groundskeeper. He enjoyed traveling by Greyhound. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at 5 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord. Burial will take place in the spring at Silver Lake cemetery in Wolverine. Mr. Helwig is survived by several nieces and nephews including Irene Tooker, Dorothy Beers, Earldine Payton, Liz Julson, Tom Brock and Steve Brock; many great nieces and nephews; and dear friend Jan Newhouse. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Sunday from 3 PM until the time of services. Mr. Andrzej Jamrogiewicz
Andrzej Jamrogiewicz, 86, of Vanderbilt died Friday, January 9, 2004 at Lapeer Regional Hospital. Mr. Jamrogiewicz was born in Poland on June 20, 1917. He was raised in Poland and came to the United States in 1950. He worked in engineering for 26 years for the Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park, retiring in 1980. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Vanderbilt. Mr. Jamrogiewicz enjoyed gardening, woodworking, cross country skiing and stamp collecting. On January 30, 2002, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Irena. He is survived by his daughter, Hanna–Marie (Brian) Gallerani of Clawson; his son, Roman of Phoenix, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Marc Wolverton and Andrew & Peter Jamrogiewicz. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, January 12, 2004 at 4:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Father John McCracken officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of services. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Hill cemetery in Vanderbilt. Mrs. Mae Jaruzel
Mrs. Mae Jaruzel, 80 of Pontiac, died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at the Meadowbrook Nursing Center in Rochester Hills. Mrs. Jaruzel was born August 24, 1923 in Murphysboro, IL. She retired from General Motors and later worked at the Pontiac Farmer’s Market until the age of 79. She was also a proud Army veteran. Mae was married to Clement Jaruzel, who died in 1966. She is survived by 2 brothers, Ray and Albert Wilson; 1 sister, Rosalie Ford; 1 niece; 2 nephews; In-laws; Stanley “Bill” (Anna “Regina”) Jaruzel of Gaylord, Clara Hughes of Kendallville, IN, Mitch Jaruzel of East Jordan, Paul (Mary) Jaruzel of Gaylord, Pete (Ethel) Jaruzel of Wolverine. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Friday, Feb 6, from 3-5 p.m. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary cemetery in Gaylord. Mrs. Florence E. Jenkins
Florence Jenkins, age 90, died February 29, 2004 at her home in Gaylord. She was born May 22, 1913 in Boyne Falls and has been a resident of Otsego County for most of her life. Mrs. Jenkins worked at the TB Sanitarium, Mc Reynolds Hall, and the Royal Crest and Timberly Motels. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for many years. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her children, Robert of Gaylord, Louisa Sides of Gaylord, F. Duane (Shirley) of Gaylord, John (Peggy) of Gaylord, Ronald (Sally) of Gaylord, Roger of Gaylord; daughters-in-law, Barbara Jenkins of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Joan Jenkins of Gaylord; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Aileen Jenkins and Lorena Jenkins; step-brother, Ursle Cox; step-sister, Flossie Welch; half-brother, William Cox; and 2 special friends, Maggie Rolinski and Reva Fox. Mrs. Jenkins is preceded in death by her husband Leo Jenkins in 1976; granddaughter, Lisa Jenkins; and sons, Charles and James. Funeral Services for Mrs. Jenkins will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the Nelson Funeral Home. Mr. Gary Kitchen
Gary Lee Kitchen, age 39 of Elmira died Saturday, Jan. 17th. Gary was born in Bellaire on Sept. 2, 1964, was raised and lived his entire life in Elmira, and was a 1982 graduate of Alba High School. He married the former Janael Chippa on Oct. 26, 1985 in Gaylord. Gary was a member of St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, and enjoyed all outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, and snowmobile racing. He especially loved working on the farm, and being out in the fields. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21st at 2:00 PM at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Fr. John McCracken officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Nelson Funeral Home from 2-8 pm. Interment will be in the Kitchen Family cemetery in Star Twp. He is survived by his wife, Janael, and their 3 daughters, Tracy, Jessica, and Katelyn. Also surviving is his father and step-mother, William (Shari) of Elmira; sister, Roxann (Rick) Smith of Bellaire; brother, Donald (Sarah) of Elmira; grandmother, Eva Kitchen of Elmira; many nieces and nephews; and father and mother-in-law, Michael (Janice) Chippa. Ms. Kathleen “Katie” Krug
Kathleen “Katie” Krug, age 19 of Gaylord died Saturday February 21, 2004. Katie was born on Nov. 10, 1984 in Gaylord, and had lived her entire life here, graduating from Gaylord High School in 2002. She was a member of the National Honor Society in high school, and was currently a sophomore attending Central Michigan University, staying in the Larzelere Dorm. While in high school and also during college, Katie volunteered for various community activities, and was employed by both the Hampton Inn in Gaylord, and Mt. Pleasant. She was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Katie enjoyed downhill skiing, traveling, and having “get togethers” with her friends. Katie is survived by her parents, Ken and Tamara Krug of Gaylord, and her brother T.J. who attends Northern MI. University in Marquette. Also surviving are her grandparents, Helen Krug of Algonac, and Bruno (Gladys) Szygielski of Bridgman, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her grandfather Arthur Krug preceded her in death. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Pastor Thomas Mammoser officiating. Visitation will be held at the Nelson funeral Home on Tuesday from 1-8 p.m., and on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Many lives have been touched by Katie; please say a special prayer for her and her family in honor of her memory and keep her in your heart. Mrs. Barbara S. Kulik
Barbara S. Kulik, 59 of Gaylord died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mrs. Kulik was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia on August 21, 1944. She was raised in southwest Detroit and moved to Gaylord in 1982. She attended Grace Baptist Church in Gaylord. Mrs. Kulik was a wonderful grandmother who loved her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing on the computer. On June 16, 1962 in Detroit she married Ronald J. Kulik, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are her children, Ron Jr. of Novi, Kim (Keith) Koronka of Gaylord, and Karen (Rick) Warden of Gaylord; her mother, Lola Ingram of Jackson; 6 grandchildren, Katrina, Tia & Tyler Kulik, Ryan & Seth Koronka, Conner Lompra; brothers and sisters, Mildred Canterbury of Jackson, Kathryn Heidman of Gaylord, Cornelia Kirk of Gaylord, Shirley Lewis of Detroit, Dallas Ingram of Taylor, Jerry Ingram of Taylor, Bill Ingram of Taylor, Jeff Ingram of Nevada. She was preceded in death by her father Eldridge Ingram; 2 brothers and 1 sister. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday from 1-8 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of services. Mr. Joseph E. Kwapis
Joseph E. Kwapis Jr., 52 of Johannesburg, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004. Mr. Kwapis was born on Jan. 29, 1951 in Johannesburg, and lived his entire life there, graduating from Johannesburg High School. He worked for K-Byte in Gaylord for approximately 7 years, and also worked for Sklarczyk Seed Farm where he enjoyed helping with the tractor. Joseph was a member of both St. Francis Church in Lewiston where he was a lector, as well as St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord. Joseph also went on a trip with his mother to the Pontiac Silverdome where they saw the Pope. He enjoyed snowmobiling, his visits to the casino, was an avid card player (especially Pinocle), attended dinners at the senior citizen center in Johannesburg, and loved all sports. He will be remembered as a very independent person who gave encouragement to others who were having any difficulties. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21st at 11:00 am from St. Francis Church in Lewiston, Fr. Gregory Kurutz officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Nelson Funeral Home from 1-8 pm, and on Wednesday at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be offered Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. Interment will be at St. Francis cemetery in Lewiston. Mr. Kwapis is survived by his mother, Dorothy Kwapis of Johannesburg, and sibling, Norbert (Eileen) of Johannesburg, Valentine (Janette) of Johannesburg and Florida, Joanne Milbocker of Johannesburg, Marcella (Leonard) Latuszek of Johannesburg, Stanley (Fern) of Johannesburg, Mary Ann (Phillip) Korff of Lewiston, Thomas (Gayle) of Gaylord, and Valerie (Steve) Koperski of Grand Rapids. Also surviving are 28 nieces and nephews, and 48 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Kwapis Sr. in 1980. Mrs. Anne D. Long
Anne D. Long, 82 of Gaylord died Saturday, February 21, 2004 at McReynolds Hall. Mrs. Long was born on March 18, 1921 in Hamtramck. She had lived in the Detroit area for several years and had been living in Otsego County since 1960. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, the Otsego Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Otsego County Senior Citizens and Hayes Grange. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Otsego Lake Township cemetery. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Allan; her step-daughter, Elizabeth Long; and 2 sisters, Mary Maddlozzo and Jennie Shtogren. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including John Shtogren of Richmond, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Otsego Memorial Hospital Foundation through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.
