Age 73, passed away on Monday,February 8, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Mildred was the daughter of Charles P. and Orva (McKay) Slane. She was a graduate of Chelsea High School and an Ann Arbor resident all of her life. She was a dedicated house wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening. She was a seamstress and nature lover. She is survived by her sons, Anthony Jr. and Terry (Cindie) Grammatico; her five brothers; three sisters; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony V. Grammatico; two brothers and one sister. Memorial service 11 a.m. Friday, February 12, 1999 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Dake officiating. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Assoc. in memory of Mrs. Grammatico.

Yoder, Rev. Paul L., Ann Arbor, MI

Rev. Paul L. Yoder died suddenly Tuesday, February 9, 1999. He was born on February 27, 1930 and had resided in Ann Arbor for 39 years. He co-pastored Shekinah Christian Church and was well loved and respected by all with whom he came in contact. He had the heart of a true father, was a tremendous man of prayer and had a passionate heart for God. Prior to the ministry, he worked for the UofM Mental Health Research Institute. He served on the Board of Governors of Christian International, a nationally known ministry and on the regional advisory board of Women Aglow. He is survived by his wife, Pastor Barbara Yoder; five children, Cheryl (Gary) Haga, Michael (Jayne) Yoder, Steven (April) Yoder, Karen (Mark) McCullough, Kevin Yoder; six grandchildren; six sisters and one brother. The funeral will be held at Shekinah Christian Church (4600 Scio Church Rd) on Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, February 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. as well as on Saturday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the Paul L. Yoder Memorial Fund has been set up at the Shekinah Christian Church. Arrangements by Muehlig Chapel.

Berwick, William C., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 94, died January 12, 1999. He was born October 22, 1904, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of William J. and Susan (Anderson) Berwick. On February 18, 1927, he married Evelyn M. Wing. They enjoyed over 70 years of marriage before her death in July 1997. Starting in 1921 as a part-time stockboy in the Broadway Department Store, Mr. Berwick became a prominent businessman in southern California, rising to Senior Vice President for Operations and Finance for the 47 stores of the Broadway Division of Carter, Hawley, Hale Corporation by his retirement in 1970. Over his career, he participated in several executive training programs at USC, UCLA, and Harvard and Northwestern Universities. He also found time in a busy career for community activities, including service on the San Gabriel, CA, City Council, participation in civil defense activities during World War II, and the Chairship of the Southern California Save the Children Federation. Mr. Berwick was a member of the San Gabriel Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar, Angeles Mesa Kiwanis Club, and the Angeles Mesa Chamber of Commerce. Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Virginia (William) Dawson of Ann Arbor and Mrs. Billie Ann (Joseph) Sabo of Tustin, CA; four grandchildren, Debi Dawson (Edward) Evans of Logan, UT, Denise Dawson of Royal Oak, William (Monica) Dawon of Maple Grove, MN, and Joan Sabo (Darell) Taylor of Los Angeles, CA; four great-grandchildren, Robert and Laura Evans and Brenna and Evelyn Dawson; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating Mr. Berwicks life is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, February 13 at the Muehlig Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to Arbor Hospice

Kolodica, Cynthia, Chelsea, MI

Age 48, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999. Cindy was a member of the Chelsea Free Methodist Church, and was a teachers aide at Pierce Lake Elementary. Survivors include her husband, Dale R. Kolodica; her mother, Marilyn Balmer of Oscoda; three sons, Kevin, Matt and Jeff at home; and two sisters, Sheri Eifert of Memphis, MI, and Debra (Michael) Hearn of Oscoda. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 12, at 11 a.m. at Chelsea Free Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the COLE FUNERAL CHAPEL Thursday 1-5 and 7-9 p.m., and at the church Friday 10-11 a.m. Contributions may be made to Kolodica Childrens Education Fund.

Armbruster, Harold E., Dexter, MI

Age 57, passed away Monday, February 8, 1999. Harold was born January 2, 1942 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Paul R. and Jean I. (Campbell) Armbruster. He retired from the Ann Arbor Fire Department after 31 years of service. He is survived by his three children, Julie (Mitch) Lee, Harold Armbruster, Jr., Andrew Armbruster; one brother, Gary Armbruster; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services for Mr. Armbruster. Arrangements by HOSMER-MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL, Dexter, MI.

Brown, Harold, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 62, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born July 1, 1936 in KY, the son of Andrew and Effie May (Prince) Brown. On July 1, 1955, he married Donna Theuner in Ypsilanti and she survives. Mr. Brown worked for Ford Motor Company for 36 years, retiring from the Sheldon Road Plant in 1992. He was a member of the Willow Run Church of God, the Ann Arbor Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler. Survivors include: three sons, Darold Brown of Adrian, Allan Brown of Ypsilanti and Russell (Kelley) Brown of Ypsilanti; two daughters, Doreen (Carl) Clark of Ypsilanti and Wanda (Mike) Cullen of Belleville; 14 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth (Gloria) of FL; five sisters, Delores (Jim) Wilson of OH, Garnett Deer of OH, Mary Wyer of OH, June (Jack) Harding of Wayne and Shelia Barrett of Ypsilanti; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 12 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Willow Run Church of God. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 p..m. Wednesday and1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Morris, Lily Mae, (Formerly of Ypsilanti)

Age 80, died Tuesday, February 2, 1999. She was born April 8, 1918. Survivors include three children: Jim Morris, Nancy Bruce, and Debbie Hunter; grandchildren, Amanda and Robbie Bruce; and Andrea Hunter; sister, Dorothy Kildau; brother, John Davidson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Morris in 1992. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Methodist Church, 1344 Borgstom, Ypsilanti, with Pastor David G. Mulder officiating. Contributions in Mrs. Morris memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the time of service or by contacting Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer-Logan Chapel.

Jaskiewicz, Albin, Ann Arbor, MI

Albin found eternal peace on February 9, 1999. He was born to Antoni Jaskiewicz and Witkoria (Wieliczko) Jaskiewicz in Lachowice, Poland on June 1, 1922, who preceded him in death. He fought valiantly against his countrys invaders in World War II, losing many friends and loved ones. Immigrating to the U.S. in 1949 with his wife and young daughter, Albin became a patriotic U.S. citizen, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves during the 1950s. A skilled draftsman, Albin began an enriching career with General Motors in 1955, retiring as Senior Designer 25 years later. He was active in Polish organizations in the Detroit area for many years, and was proud to be a founding member of the American-Polish Cultural Center, in Troy, Michigan. He is survived by the mother of his children, Zofia Jaskiewicz of Ann Arbor, and will be dearly missed by his children, Jolanta Rzewuski of Chicago and Val Jaskiewicz and wife Cathleen of Ann Arbor; his grandchildren Michelle, Adam, and Larisa; and great-granddaughter, Veronica. Treat, Helen Doris, Manchester, MI

Age 72, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at Adrian Health Care. She was born August 10, 1926 in Manchester, MI, to Clarence and Anna C. (Dresselhouse) Schill. She was married to Egbert Bill Treat on August 31, 1946 in Manchester, MI. He survives. Helen was a member of the Clinton Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 12, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, with Pastor Richard Coury officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside cemetery in Clinton. Friends may call at the Anderson Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton Assembly of God or the Leader Dogs for the Blind. Beloved wife of the late Abraham Silberschein and the late Isadore Katz. Loving mother of Moshe (Susan) Silberschein and Barbara (Dr. Sanford) Herman. Dear sister of Meyer (Helen) Goldbaum, Isadore (Adrienne) Goldbaum, and Sonia Siegel. Dear sister-in-law of Myron (Gertrude) Grodin, Abe (Wilma) Katz, and Sylvia Bernath. Loving grandmother of Rachel and Samuel Herman and Aviad and Alon Silberschein. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Schlegel, Ruth E., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 94, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at Saline Community Hospital, Saline, MI. She was born March 3, 1904 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Andrew and Marie (Larmee) Nef. Ruth was a life long Ann Arbor resident. On April 2, 1925, Ruth married Claud A. Schlegel in Ann Arbor, MI; he preceded her in death in October of 1983. She was employed as a legal secretary and was a life member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She was a member and secretary for the Women of the Moose Lodge #890 for over 65 years. She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Arthur) Scherdt of Ann Arbor; two grandsons, Jeffrey of Ann Arbor and Robert (Billie) Scherdt of Whitmore Lake; two great granddaughters, Shelby and Ryan Scherdt; five step grandchildren, Arthur Jr., James, Randal, Dennis, and Judy Pherson; one sister, Katherine Kapp of Lansing, MI; several nieces and nephews including Robert (Betty) and Gerald (Mae) Kapp, also of Lansing, MI. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 1 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Rev. William Utke officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel where a lodge service will be held at 7:30 p.m. For those who wish, contributions may be made to Bethlehem Church in memory of Mrs. Schlegel.

Plummer, Sam Edward, Brooklyn, MI

Age 73, died February 9, 1999. Sam was born July 30, 1925 in Koney, KY., the son of Sam and Merlin (Plummer) Plumer. He married Frances Walker in San Diego, CA, on June 25, 1945 and she survives. Sam retired from GM, Willow Run Assembly in the mid 1970s working as a Foreman. Mr. Plummer served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the south pacific during WWII. He was a member of the Eagles club in Huntsville, AL. Besides his wife, Sam is survived by three sons, Jim (Barbara) of Brooklyn, Jack of Clark Lake and Richard (Arlene) of Waldron; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. The family will receive visitors at the family home, 8730 Case Rd., on Saturday, February 13 from noon until 6 p.m. It is requested that no flowers are to be sent and gifts of remembrance be made to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.

Allen, Kellie J., Chelsea, MI

Age 71, left his earthly home to be with his lord Wednesday evening, February 10, 1999. He was born May 19, 1927 in Fredsville, KY. He is the loving husband of Joan Howard Allen; father of Harold Allen and Mary Beth (Jerry) Milliken; devoted grandfather of Autumn Allen, Jerry, Mike and Kelly Jo Milliken. Preceding him in death was a son, Homer Dale Allen; a brother, Amos Wireman; and parents, Ada and Kellie Allen. He was a brother to Edith Russell of Franklin Furnace, OH, Amy Hull of Buckeye, AZ, Marie Patrick of Salyersville, KY, Jerry (Joan) Wireman of Dexter, MI, Kash (Shelby) Wireman of Springfield, OH, Ward (Pat) Wireman of Jackson, KY, Larry Wireman of Gulf Shores, AL. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Kellie and Joan were married at West Liberty, Kentucky on October 2, 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Platoon Sergeant for the 24th Constabulary, of which time he spent 11 months in Austria. He worked at the Federal Screw Plant and was supervisor of the Public Works Department for the Village of Chelsea. He was also the Building Inspector at that time. He was a member of the Civil Defense Forces of Washtenaw County and the State of Michigan. He later became supervisor of the Chelsea Methodist Home Maintenance Department, retiring in 1983. After retiring, he became a friend to all by repairing bicycles and lawn mowers, and was dearly loved by everyone who knew him. Our loss will be Heavens gain. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 14 at 1:30 p.m. from the Chelsea Christian Fellowship, 337 Wilkinson St., Chelsea with John Dambacher, Pastor and Sarah Grosser, Pastor officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home and on Sunday from 12:30 until the hour of service at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Individualized Hospice or the Chelsea Christian Fellowship. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

Wilder, Minnie, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 62, passed away after a short illness Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at Oakwood Hospital Beyer Center. She was born May 24, 1936 in Kentucky, the daughter of Glen and Belva McKenzie. On August 3, 1957, she married Earl Wilder in Angola, IN and he survives. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Ypsilanti and was employed by the University of Michigan Hospital, retiring in 1976. In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Erylene (David) Fisher of Jackson and Lori (John) Wilson of Whitmore Lake; five grandchildren, Nichole, Danielle, Taylor, Kaleb and Briley Elizabeth; four sisters, Janie Mayes of California, Lola Fay of Ohio, Lilly Belle Hamilton of Westland and Dixie Caldwell of Belleville; one brother, Jack Crislip of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Moore of Milan Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 4-9 p.m. Thursday

Delaforce, Berniece (Bird), San Diego, CA

Age 87, joined her loved ones in heaven from her home in San Diego, CA on Tuesday, January 26, 1999 after many months of declining health. She was born on March 17, 1911 to J. Garfield and Rillie (Spink) Bird in Milan, MI. After graduating from Michigan Normal College, she taught elementary children in Midland and Milan Schools. After seven years of courtship, she married Warren Delaforce in Howell, MI, on June 29, 1934. They celebrated 59 years of marriage prior to his death in 1993. His career took them from Milan to Inglewood, CA, arriving on V-J Day, and back to Michigan where he was employed by Ford Motor Company for the rest of his career. After living in Whittier, CA, they retired together to Casa De Las Campanas (Home of the Bells) in San Diego. She was an active volunteer and leader throughout her life in the Methodist Church as a church school and bible school teacher, the United Methodist Women, a lifetime member of the Milan Chapter O.E.S. and P.E.O. sisterhood. She was a caring, loving friend to all who knew her. We celebrate her life and her reunion with Warren, her parents, her brother, Maynard and sister, Mildred, and many others. Memories of Berniece will be cherished by her sister, Marian (Clayt) Woolner of Milan, sister-in-law, Wilma Bird of Chelsea, as well as her nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan with visitation preceding services noon - 2 p.m. The family suggests memorial tributes to Marble United Methodist Church Handicapped Accessibility project.

Age 77, died February 8, 1999 at Oakwood Hospital Beyers Center. He was born in Roanoke, VA on May 17, 1921, the son of James E. and Lula M. Crowder-Minor, Sr. Mr. Minor was a member of St. Marys Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Reliable Cab Co., Ypsilanti. He is survived by three sons, Carl (Virginia) Minor of South Ozone Park, NY, Clyde Minor of Ypsilanti, and Barry Minor of Dallas, TX; one niece, Lula Hampton; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held February 11 at St. Marys Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Arvis Alexander, Sr. officiating. Burial will take place on Saturday, February 13 at Cedar Grove cemetery, Chester, S.C. Visitation will be 3:00-9:00 p.m. on February 11 at Lucilles Funeral Home.

Rogers, Raymond Floyd Bo, Ypsilanti Twp., MI

Age 76, died Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. He was born on September 2, 1922 in Kennett, Missouri, the son of James C. and Ora E. (Hoxsworth) Rogers. On October 7, 1961, he married Geneva A. Stacy and she preceded him in death on May 16, 1982. Bo was a devoted member of Graceway Baptist Church. He was also an active member of the Ypsilanti Twp Senior Citizens Lively Travelers. Survivors include one son, James L. Rogers of Ypsilanti; one daughter, Velma (Fred) Green of Monroe, MI; his mother, Ora Rogers of Ypsilanti; six brothers and sisters, Dewey (Lorraine) Rogers and Mavis Fairless, all of Missouri, Carol Rogers of Ypsilanti, Bobby (Madeline) Rogers of Florida, Betty (Wayne) Cockburn of Alabama, and Pat (Phil) Richards of Ypsilanti; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his infant son, George Herman and his father, James C. Rogers. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 12, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Graceway Baptist Church with Pastor James Southward officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, MI. Contributions in Bos memory may be made to charity of your choice. Envelopes will be made available at Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer-Logan Chapel where the family will receive friends today from 1-9 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Lewis, Anna Bertha, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 104, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 10, 1999 at Hillside Terrace, where she made her home for many years. Mrs. Lewis was born on April 29, 1894, in Detroit, the daughter of Herman and Bertha (Kumm) Breuhan. On July 27, 1914, she was married to Arthur E. Lewis, who she met at Michigan Bell Telephone Company, where they both worked. Mr. Lewis preceded her in death on July 25, 1988. She had lived in Grand Rapids from 1926 until 1980, when she came to Ann Arbor. Mrs. Lewis was an active member of Burton Heights United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. Surviving is her son, William (Garland) of Ann Arbor; a granddaughter, Susan Sherman; three grandsons, Clayton (MaryBeth), Alfredo (Elizabeth) Montalvo, and Carlos (Mercedes) Montalvo; three great-grandsons, Christopher and Maxwell Lewis and Juan Carlos Montalvo; and a special friend, Ethel Potts. Entombment services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 15, 1999 at Chapel Hill Mausoleum, 28th St. and Patterson, SE, Grand Rapids, MI, with Pastor Marge Bermann, officiating. Memorial tributes may be made in Mrs. Lewis honor to the Hillside Terrace Therapy Garden, 1939 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Arrangements by NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter Rd.
