Paul, Robert A., Ypsilanti, MI

Age 84, died February 11, 1999 at the Arbor Hospice Residence. Robert was born in Ann Arbor on June 29, 1914, the son of Alfred J. and Emma (Gwinner) Paul. On January 6, 1939 he married Geraldine Ware at Bethlehem Church. She preceded him in death in 1996. Robert retired as chief accountant at the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of Bethlehem Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, and a member of Elks Lodge #325. Survivors include one son, Alfred J. (Anna) Paul; one daughter, Mary A. (Richard) Friend; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, and Jason Paul of Ann Arbor, Jennifer (Alan) Adams of Oceanside, CA, Robert (Sara) Friend of Jacksonville, FL, William Friend of Virginia Beach, VA; one great grandson, Alexander Adams; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Winifred Turnbull and a niece, Suzanne Ferzacca. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 S. 4th Ave., Ann Arbor. Rev. Gregory Smith will officiate. There will be a reception following the memorial service at the church. Burial will be at Bethlehem cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethlehem Church or Arbor Hospice. Arrangements by MUEHLIG CHAPEL. Robert took great pride in his Ann Arbor heritage. He was a great-grandson of Jacob Paul who settled in the Ann Arbor area in 1829.

Miller, Winifred E., Saline, MI

Age 90, died Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born November 25, 1908 in Cass County, Indiana the daughter of Isaac E. and Nellie (Maus) Bowman. She had been a Flint, MI resident for many years before moving to Saline. She was married to David Miller and he preceded her in death in September 1986. Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Miller Hoort and her husband Hermann Weiss of Ann Arbor, and nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. from the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline, with Rev. Judith Jahnke officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Saline Evangelical Home.

Mueller, Robert E., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 65, Bob passed away at his home on February 16, 1999, after a two year bout with Cancer. A lifelong Ann Arbor resident, he was born May 11, 1933, in Ann Arbor to Viola (Snyder) and Ellis Mueller. He attended Bach Elementary, Slauson Jr. High, and Ann Arbor High School (Class of 51) where he participated on the basketball and tennis teams. He graduated in physics from the University of Michigan with a BS in 1955 and MS in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army, Critical Skills Division, at Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah, following the Korean conflict. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He married his loving wife, Barbara Frey, on May 3, 1958, in Grand Rapids. She survives as well as their three children, Craig (Jamie) of McLean, VA, Karen of Grand Rapids, and Marc of Ann Arbor. Also surviving are his mother of Ann Arbor; twin brother, Dick (Sue) of Ft. Wayne, IN; and sister, Carol (John) Eman of Ann Arbor; one grandson, Malcolm Mueller of McLean, VA; and nieces and nephews. Bob was a pioneer scientist in the development of the peaceful uses of atomic energy. Specifically he worked on the design, construction, and operation of nuclear power plants. His interests were reactor physics, radiation shielding and health physics, and radioactive waste processing and storage. After a brief employment with the University of Michigan and Atomics International, Los Angeles, in the middle 1950s, he was employed for 17 years with Atomic Power Development Associates (Fermi I fast breeded reactor) and 22 years at Detroit Edison (Fermi II Plant). The latter years of his career were spent promoting energy conservation. He retired from Edison in 1994. He was a charter member of the American Nuclear Society (ANS), joining in 1955, and held many positions in the ANS Michigan Section, including that of chairman in 1987-88. He authored many technical papers and contributed chapters to several books on atomic energy. He traveled to the USSR with a contingent of American scientists to confer with Russian scientists after the Chernobyl incident. Bob had the good luck to have been associated with four different Noble Prize winners over the course of his career. He was a member of the Racquet Club and Liberty Sports Complex. An accomplished tennis player, Bob won many tennis awards. He participated in all but two of the Ann Arbor City tennis tournaments since their resumption after World War II, and won several city doubles titles and was singles runner up twice. He was a ranked player in his age group in the Western Section of the USTA until the time of his illness. He continued playing tennis until shortly before his death. Bob lived a full life, had seen most of the world, and best of all he did at his own way. Bob remarked that as far as he knew he never seriously harmed anyone in his life, except perhaps on a few bad tennis line calls every now and then. He hoped that in his own small way he helped to make the world a little better place. Cremation has taken place A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1432 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor on Saturday, March 6, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in his name may be made to Arbor Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or City of Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation Dept./ tennis program. MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.

Klemer, Miriam, Chelsea, MI

Age 72, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at Chelsea Community Hospital. She was born on July 19, 1926 in Maryland, the daughter of Thomas P. and Alma (Robinson) Cooney. Mrs. Klemer has lived in Chelsea since 1971, coming from Pennsylvania. She retired as Secretary for the Superintendent of the Chelsea Public Schools in 1997. She also served as Secretary for Lima Township Board and the Chelsea Area Fire Association. Miriam was a member of Chelsea First United Methodist Church. On June 8, 1947, she married Earl M. Klemer in Baltimore, MD, and he survives. Other survivors include one daughter Diane Klemer of Walled Lake, MI; two sons, David of New York, Daniel of California; one step-son, Michael Klemer of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Thomas Cooney Jr. and John Cooney, both of Maryland; one sister, Patricia Vela of Maryland; one step-sister, Marie Mumpower of Maryland; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, 11:00 a.m. at COLE FUNERAL CHAPEL, Chelsea, with Rev. Peggy Garrigues-Cortelyou officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.

Age 85, died February 15, 1999. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 1999 at the BELL-BOREK FUNERAL HOME, Hamburg. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

Papanastasopoulos, Sarantos, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 57, died Monday at Harper Hospital in Detroit. Born in Greece on February 26, 1941, he was the son of Hristos and Panagiota (Handrinos) Papanastasopoulos. He was proceeded in death by his wife Margarete in 1998. Sarantos was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and the owner of Sams Construction. He is survived by his son, Chris; his daughter, Pat (Jeff) Murphy; and one grandson, Robert James Murphy. He is also survived by three brothers, Kostandinos, Peter and Theofanis Papanastasopoulos; and two sisters, Stavroula Filippou and Sophia Theodoropoulos. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 1 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Rev. John Paul will officiate. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery. Friends may call at the Muehlig Chapel on Friday from 5-9 p.m.

Eddy, Harriett, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 84, died Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at her home. Visitation will be held Thursday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Dexter, MI, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, February 19, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Dexter United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery.

McCue, Mary A. Vicki, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 65, There will be a memorial service on Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Eddy, Harriett E., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 84, died Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at her home. She was born July 27, 1914 in Adrian, MI, the daughter of Fred Arnold and Edna May (Evans) Fox. Harriett was united in marriage to Delvord Manning Eddy in Jackson, MI on June 1, 1947; he preceded her in death in 1983. She was a long time member of the Dexter United Methodist Church; and was an avid gardener and homemaker. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Eddy of Vancouver, British Columbia and Deborah Eddy of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Linda, Robert, and Veronica Eddy; one great grandson, Joshua Eddy and one brother, James Fox of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, John David; and sister, Winifred Wheaton. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, at 11 a.m. at the Dexter United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Finzer officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the HOSMER-MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL, Dexter, Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and at the church Friday from 10 until the time of service at 11 a.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Dexter United Methodist Church or Hospice of Washtenaw.

Osterhout, Jean E., Saline, MI

Jean Osterhout, 77, died suddenly February 17, 1999 at home. Jean was born on November 18, 1921 in Saline, MI, the daughter of Max and Pauline (Burrows) Fosdick and was a Saline resident all of her life. On December 27, 1941, she married Robert Osterhout at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Parsonage and he survives. Jean was a 1939 graduate of Saline High School and she retired as vice president of Citizens Bank in 1985. Jean served on the Saline Board of Education from 1964 to 1972, and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Saline Community Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Stone and Thistle Garden Club, and the Saline American Legion Post #322 Women's Auxiliary. Jean had been very active in the Saline community. In addition to her husband, Jean is survived by a son, Wyman (Cynthia) of Milan; daughter, Renee Osterhout of Tecumseh; a brother, Harry (Rosemary) Fosdick, and a sister, Maxine Lossing, all of Saline; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mac Lossing. Funeral services 11 a.m. Friday, February 19 at St. Pauls United Church of Christ with Rev. Ron Boldman officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Envelopes will be made available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, where friends may call on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Sichler, Louise, Ypsilanti, MI

Louise (Chute) Sichler passed away on February 4, 1999 at the age of 92. The beloved wife of the late Edward H. Sichler and dear mother of Alice Anne (Charles) Kepler and Edward H. (Marilyn) Sichler III. Mrs. Sichler was the dear sister of Edna (William) Smith, and brothers, Richard Chute and Eral Chute. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Vasher, Leo F., Harrison, MI

Age 72, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 15, 1999, in Cape Coral, Florida. Leo was born March 3, 1926, in Detroit, the son of LeRoy J. and Emma M. (DeGuvara) Vasher. Leo was employed by the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as a boiler engineer, retiring after twenty years of employment. Surviving are his wife, Tillie of Harrison; his mother, Emma Vasher, also of Harrison; a daughter, Kathy (Bruce) Laubon of Harrison; a son, Richard (Shelly) Vasher of Harrison; three grandchildren, Ryan and Ashlee Laubon and Hilary Vasher; three brothers, James Vasher of Hamburg, Roy (Audrey) Vasher of Lexington, Kentucky and Arnold Buster (Jenny) Vasher of Harrison; two sisters, Patricia (Bill) Blewett of Harrison and Shirley Lupi of Whitmore Lake. Visitation Thursday 12-5 and 6-9 p.m. at STOCKING FUNERAL HOME, 165 Oak, Harrison. Vigil for the deceased will be celebrated Thursday, February 18, 1999 at 7p.m. at the funeral home. In-state Friday 10 a.m., St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Harrison, until the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Athanasius cemetery, Harrison, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

Holmes, Teresa A., Ann Arbor, MI

Formerly of Orange County, Virginia. Born April 7, 1955 at the former Selfridge AFB in Mt. Clemens, MI, died suddenly February 11, 1999 at the age of 43. Surviving are her son, Timothy Holmes of Ann Arbor, MI and daughter, Amanda Michelle Holmes, a senior at Pioneer High School. She was the daughter of Mrs. Lula Olive Pierce of Las Vegas, NV; wife of the late Lt. Colonel Thomas Edward Pierce (ret). Teresa or Terry as she was known to her friends and co-workers, was employed by the C-Text, Inc. of Ann Arbor as Software Release Manager for the past 9 years. An avid quilter, she will be remembered by family, friends, co-workers and quilters around the world for the beauty, and loving detail she personally crafted into each quilt she designed and all the lives she has touched. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, February 19, 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, on the corner of State St. and Huron St. in Ann Arbor. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends after the memorial service in the Wesley Lounge at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials for Teresa be made to the Amanda Holmes Education Fund c/o C-Text, Inc., 1428 E. Ellsworth Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Age 84, died February 17, 1999 at home. Survivors include three sons, Ken (Margaret), Art (Charmaine), both of Milan, and Danny (Donna) of Texas; two daughters, Sharon Cunkle of Milan and Barbara Jean Woolner of California; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola (Norman) Kroger of Taylor, MI. Preceded in death by husband, Roosevelt Rock in 1988. Visitation will be held Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan where the funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Washtenaw.

Age 90, passed away February 16, 1999. He was born on March 16, 1908 to Phydime and Rosa (LeBlanc) Richard in Alpena, MI. He came to the South Lyon area in 1965 and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of South Lyon. He was the loving father of Arthur (Dianna) Richard of Northville, and Ruth (Horace) Jacks of Westland; one brother, Lawrence Richard; five grandchildren, William (Jean) Jacks, David (Donna) Jacks, Linda Jacks, Robert (Terri) Jacks, Karen (Robert) Foss; and seven great-grandchildren, Nicole, Crystal, Robert Jr., Dawn, Jamie, Kelly and Bobby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mildred Richard in 1963; five sisters; and eight brothers. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 122 West Lake Street, South Lyon, MI. Interment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens West. Memorials in Arthurs memory may be made to Hospice of Washtenaw, 806 Airport Boulevard, Ann Arbor, MI 48108-1642.

Lupu, Richard T. Sr., Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 57, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at his home. He was born March 1, 1941 in Detroit, MI, the son of Ferdinand and Catharine (Mac) Lupu. Mr. Lupu was a residential manager of Cobble Creek Apts. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy and was a long-standing member of the Ypsilanti Moose Lodge #782. He was a very loving man who will be missed by his family and friends, along with the extended family that grew over the years. Survivors include Judy, his loving wife of 32 years; four sons, Richard T. Lupu Jr. of Lexington, KY, Richard L. Lupu of Utica, MI, Robert D. Lupu of Onaway, MI, and Thomas R. Lupu of Onaway; two daughters, Wendy Meeks of Warren and Lonna Reeber of Canton; 21 grandchildren; a great granddaughter; two brothers; one sister; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Catharine; his parents; and one brother, Ferdinand Jr. The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, February 21 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home6-9 Friday and 2-4 and 6-9 Saturday.

Endicott, Forrest D., Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 60, passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 17, 1999. He was born December 18, 1938 in Prestonsburg, KY, the son of Larce and Ruth (Burchett) Endicott. On September 14, 1979, he married Pamela Y. Adkins, and she survives. Mr. Endicott was employed by Ford Motor Co., Ypsilanti plant for 22 years, retiring in 1981. In addition to his wife, he leaves to mourn his passing one son, Michael of Munith, MI; one step-daughter, Karen and her husband, Rick Harris of Ypsilanti and their two daughters, Kristyn and Elizabeth; two brothers, James (Charlene) Endicott of Maysville, KY and Donald (Rita) Endicott of Allen, KY; and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Griffey. The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Walker Harris of Belleville Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Raymond, Beatrice Josephine, Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 82, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 1999, at Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born March 12, 1916, in Corunna, MI, the daughter of William and Eva (Conley) Ranowsky. On April 7, 1941, she married Willard Hurd Raymond in Toledo, OH, and they enjoyed 27 happy years together. Willard preceded her in death November 29, 1968. Bea and Willard worked their Merritt Road farm together for many years, and later she worked at the Ypsilanti Area Federal Credit Union and the Washtenaw County Probate Court. Bea was a loving and kind person with many friends who were very important to her. She spent much of her time volunteering for organizations in the community. She was active in the Ypsilanti Moose, the Farm Bureau and her church, where she taught Sunday school. She was a popular figure at American Red Cross blood drives, and students at Lincoln Brick Elementary enjoyed having her as a tutor. Bea loved to travel with her friends and grandchildren. She was well known for her excellent cooking and her sharp wit. Survivors include: one son, Peter (Deborah) Raymond of Ypsilanti; two daughters, Jane (Scott Kunst) Raymond of Ann Arbor and Helen Raymond of Ann Arbor; eight grandchildren, Aaron Raymond, Jessica Raymond, Laura Raymond, Scott St. Clair, David Kunst, Cynthia Creps, Joe Creps and Jennifer Woolcott; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 1999, at Lincoln Community United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter B. Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice Residence, American Red Cross of Washtenaw County, or Lincoln Community United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

McShane, Vivian, Parma, MI

(Formerly of Dexter, MI) Age 87, died Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at her home. She was born March 18, 1911 in Branch County, MI, the daughter of Elmer and Bessie (Clickner) Van Hoosear. She was united in marriage to James McShane; he preceded her in death. Vivian was a long standing member of St. Andrews United Church of Christ in Dexter, MI. She is survived by her two sons, Neil (Terry) McShane and Bruce McShane; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur Van Hoosear. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Richard McShane. Due to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Andrews United Church of Christ in Dexter, MI. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Judes Children Hospital. Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
