Kelemen, Mary E., Milan, MI

Age 71, died May 4, 1999 at home with her family by her side after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born May 1, 1928 in Detroit, MI to William and Elizabeth (Chepley) Kakocky. On June 16, 1945 she married William Kelemen and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1990. Mrs. Kelemen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and retired from Lincoln Public Schools as a school bus driver in 1980. Survivors include four daughters, Mary E. Kelemen of Kalamazoo, Katrinka (Joseph) Fox, Rozona Kelemen and Rebecca (James) Fox, all of Milan; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Violet) Prater of Higgins Lake. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna. Visitation 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan, where the rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy begins Friday 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with procession to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Bosco officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Care Unit at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital or Hospice of Washtenaw.

Moore, Mae I., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 90, loving wife of Charles; dear mother of Nancy Bates; grandmother of Allison Bates; sister of Etta Scott, Mary Speiser and Earl Boyd. Visitation will be Tuesday, 1:30-9 p.m. at the R.J. Nixon Funeral Home, 2544 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte. Funeral services, Wed., 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Age 82, died Sunday, May 2, 1999. One son, Tom Slavens of Pinckney. Funeral service Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the LAMB FUNERAL HOME, Howell.

Brown, Professor Gerald Saxon, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 88, passed away peacefully at Karrington on May 1, 1999. Gerald was born February 25, 1911 in Port Maitland, Nova Scotia, Canada to Catherine and George Brown. He graduated from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia in 1932 and was a high school principal in Nova Scotia. In 1937, he was admitted as a doctoral candidate in history at the University of Minnesota. In 1940, he received a scholarship to continue his research at the Clements Library in Ann Arbor. In 1941, he married Dorothy Myer and from 1942-1945, served as an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1945, he was seconded to the Canadian State Department, but returned to Ann Arbor in 1946 to complete his research. He received his Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota in 1948. He became a U.S. citizen in 1954. He spent 34 years as a Professor of History at the University of Michigan. His specialty was the history of the British Empire -he published several books and numerous articles. He received Fulbright Fellowship to study and teach in England in 1956-57. Professor Brown loved teaching and was devoted to his students. He was pre-deceased by an infant daughter, Patricia, and by six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and his daughter, Catherine Andrejak (Gary). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 5, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice or the Salvation Army. Muehlig Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Pearsall, Allan G., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 73, died Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born June 20, 1925 in Ann Arbor, the son of Claude and Helen (Underwood) Pearsall. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Bette Pearsall; he then married Eleanor Becky Trithart on July 28, 1984 at First Baptist Church in Ann Arbor. He graduated from Ann Arbor Highschool in 1944 and was the captain of the swim team. Allan was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a 50 year member of the Local 687 Carpenters Union, the Midwest Tool Collectors, and the Lost Lake Woods Association. Allan is survived by his wife, Eleanor Becky; children, Ramona (Doug) Nichols of Saratoga, CA, Malcom (Cherie) Pearsall of Saline, MI, Mary Lee (Michael) Weiss of Hidden Hills, CA, Rebecca (John) Wyatt of Warren, MI, and Nancy (Randall) Faber of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Andy Nichols, Julia Nichols, Chelsea Pearsall, Gregory Weiss, and Jennifer Weiss; and brother, Fred (Bea) Pearsall of Chelsea, MI. A Memorial Service and reception will be held Thursday, May 6, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 512 Huron St., Ann Arbor with Rev. Stanley McKinnon officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Ann Arbor or Arbor Hospice. MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL in charge of arrangements.

LeGrand, Sarah Quincy, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 70, passed away Monday morning, May 3, 1999 at the Residence of Arbor Hospice. Mrs. LeGrand was born on September 29, 1928, in Waynesboro, TN, the daughter of Benjamin & Tamsy (Brewer) Martin. On June 8, 1946, she was married to Cletus LeGrand, who preceded her in death on September 22, 1995. Surviving are her children; Rondal (Janice) LeGrand, Cleta Ann (Steven Hamilton) LeGrand, and Skyla (Ken) Kruzel. Also nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Her sisters; Mary Daniels & Margie Wade, brothers; Bill Martin & Ray Martin. Her brother Charles Martin preceded her in death in 1969. Memorial tributes may be made in her honor to the Arbor Hospice Residence, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Envelopes are available at the NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter Rd., where the family will receive friends today 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 1999, at the Nie Funeral Home. Entombment will be at the Mausoleum at Washtenong Memorial Park. Sarah will be missed by all of those who knew and loved her. She leaves with us a legacy of strength and determination.

Curry, Kitty, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 56, passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999 at home. She was born February 21, 1943 in Johnstown, PA, the daughter of Elze and Delfa (Patterson) Keith. Survivors include significant other, Dennis Dolin of Ypsilanti; four daughters, Connie Curry of Whitmore Lake, MI, Dawn Curry of Ypsilanti, Jamie Heffulbower of Coldwater, MI, and Tammie Curry of Belleville; two sons, James of Marion, IN and Ted (Tina) Curry of Hamburg, MI; 20 grandchildren; two sisters, Sis (Reno) Greggi of Belleville and Patricia (Jim) Garrett of Plymouth, MI; three brothers, Jim Keith of Belleville, Donald Keith of Chippewa Lake, MI and Robert (Helen) Keith of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, James Curry, in 1990. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob White of the Grace Baptist Church in Belleville officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside cemetery, Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where friends may call 6-9 p.m. Monday and 12-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Feustel, Dorothy Emerich, Fort Wayne, IN

Allen, Rev. Oscar K. O.K., Ypsilanti Twp., MI

Age 64, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 3, 1999. He was born June 28, 1934, in Farmerville, Louisiana, the son of Edward and Leona (Acree) Allen. O.K. was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Belleville and was self-employed as a drywall contractor for over 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Pamela; two sons: Edward Ewing Allen and Joseph Kelly Allen; one grandson: Jace Allen; one step-daughter: Sabrina Sue Bledsoe; nine brothers and sisters; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Allen. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 164 Roys St., Belleville, with Pastor Robert J. White officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the V.I.P. Ministry at Grace Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer-Logan Chapel where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. and at the Church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Williams, Sylvester, Jr., Ypsilanti, MI

Age 53, passed away suddenly, Monday, May 3, 1999 at his home. He was born August 25, 1945 in Grand Rapids, MI. On July 26, 1969, he married Patty Price in Belleville and she survives. Mr. Williams was a graduate of Central State University in Ohio, where he majored in elementary education. He retired after 28 years from the Detroit Public School System (Clinton Elementary School). He was loved by all the students he touched. He is survived by: his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Patty; two wonderful sons that he adored, Derek of Ypsilanti and Kurk of Phoenix, AZ; a loving brother, Kenneth (Bridgette) of Ypsilanti; and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Yvonne (Joiner) Williams; long-time residents of Ypsilanti, and one stepsister, Judith. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Allan Howard of St. Peter A.M.E. officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Friends may greet the family from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Welker, Bertha E. Bert,

Lifelong resident of Ann Arbor, born on August 8, 1896, passed away May 2, 1999, aged 102. Bertha retired from the University of Michigan after 50 years of service as the secretary to the manager of the Michigan Union. After retirement she volunteered with the American Red Cross. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. Survived by two nieces, Bernadine Palmer Shear, and Ferne Palmer Morgan; several grandnieces and nephews. Bertha was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church where services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 1999 at 2 p.m. Interment Forest Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.Arrangements by MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL.

Hale, Mildred M., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 94, did Friday, April 30, 1999 at the Hillside Terrace Nursing Center. She was born August 6, 1904 in Lowell, MA the daughter of Thomas Rourke and Mary (Rock) Rourke. Millie had one sister, Mary Means of Paris, IL who preceded her in death in 1995. In the 1940s she married Kenneth Hale who owned a dry cleaning business. He passed after a long illness with Millie as his loving companion and nurse. At that time she became a House Mother to the Nurses of Sisters of Mercy at the St. Joseph Hospital Nursing Residence. She was loved by many and was truly a mother to all. She will be sorely missed by friends and staff at Hillside where she was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. She will be deeply missed by her guardian Barbara Dempsey. A Service will be held Friday, May 7, 1999 at 4 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Fr. Dwight Ezop officiating. There will be visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Those wishing may make memorial contributions in memory of Millie to Hillside Terrace Therapy Garden Fund, 1939 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48103, or Hospice of Ann Arbor, 806 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108.
