Ross, Judith, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 61, a Milan resident for more than thirty years before moving to Ann Arbor, died May 6, 1999 at The University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born February 3, 1938 in Lansing, MI, the daughter of Archibold and Lenore Lathrop. She worked as a rural carrier for the United States Post Office in the Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor areas for over fifteen years until retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Unity Church of Ann Arbor. Survivors include three sons: Dennis (Gail) Ingham and Brian (Diane) Ingham, both of Marenisco, MI, and Marc (Phyllis) Ingham of Azalia, MI; one daughter, Traci (Bruce) Ziolkowski of South Lyon, MI; six grandchildren, and three step grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Monday, May 10, 1999 from 5-6:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held then at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Scott McClintock of the Unity Church officiating.

Popp, George Walter, Whitmore Lake, MI

Formerly of Ann Arbor
Age 68, died Thursday, May 6, 1999 at home. George was born on February 25, 1931 the son of the late George Joseph and Anna Violet (Laskowski) Popp. He married Marie Popp in Petaluma, CA. on November 14, 1954, and she survives. George graduated from Central High School in South Bend, IN. He was in the United States Air Force during the Korean War earning several medals of honor. He worked as an electronics technician for Bendix in South Bend before moving to Ann Arbor in 1962. He retired in 1990 from University of Michigan as an elevator mechanic. Also surviving are his children, Christine Ann (Jay) Miles of Whitmore Lake, Cathleen Annette (David) Kuebler, of Buckley, MI, Connie Marie (John) Michalak, of Whitmore Lake and Kevin (Kelley) Popp of West Bloomfield; 5 grandchildren, and sisters Shirley Miller and Lillian Evans. He was preceded in death by parents and sister Dorothy Wyatt. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 11th at 6 p.m. at West Side United Methodist Church, 900 S. 7th street, Ann Arbor. Donations are suggested to Salvation Army, 100 Arbana, Ann Arbor, or Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor. Funeral arrangements made through Bell-Borek Funeral Home, 7425 M-36, Hamburg.

Wilson, Jeremita Babe, Milan, MI

Age 99, died May 7, 1999. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Sunday May 9 from 2-4 and 6-8 with a rosary at 7:30. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 10, with prayers at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m., Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Smith, Charles A., Holland, MI

Charles A. Smith, age 63, passed away at his home in Holland after a courageous fight against cancer on May 7. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Charles of Hartland; daughter, Denise Hoag of Holland, and three grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Helen Hagen, Patricia Rapley, and Sally Smith, all of Ann Arbor. Services will be held May 12 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Holland.

Gleason-Hall, Shannon Marie, Plymouth, MI

Age 13, passed away Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Detroit Children's Hospital. Beloved daughter of Deb Gleason and Bruce Hall. Shannon is also survived by; her dad, Kenneth P. Grenham; brother, Bobby and Jimmy; sister Tara; loving grandparents, James and Dee Gleason; the Gleason, Grenham and Hall families; and devoted friends. Shannon will always remain in our hearts. The starlight starbright beautiful angel brightened our lives each day, and her memory will live on. We love you sweetheart, hugs and smooches baby girl. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Cadillac Memorial Gardens West. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where friends may greet the family from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.

MacMillan, Dorothy Jean, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 77, passed away Friday afternoon, May 7, 1999 at Glacier Hills, where she had been a resident for the past 8 years. She was born in Detroit, on July 29, 1921, the daughter of Henry and Veronica (Hoffman) Hall. Mrs. MacMillan had been a longtime resident of Southfield and Lake Orion, before moving to Ann Arbor in 1991. She had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Lake Orion. Surviving are her daughters, Diana (Timothy) Roddy of McLean, VA, Shellie (Gary Decker) MacMillan of Ann Arbor, Laurie (Ron) Wurst of Clarkston and Kerry (Greg) Delahant of Evergreen, CO; her grandchildren, Bridget and Cara Roddy, Monica and Jack Delahand, Haley Decker; Grandpups, Decker, Mojo, Bing and Mango. Memorial tributes may be made in Mrs. MacMillans honor to the Arthritis Foundation, 23999 Northwestern Hwy., #210, Southfield, MI 48075-6820. A Memorial Gathering will be held Monday, May 10, 1999, at Glacier Hills, 1200 Earhart Rd. Burial will be Tuesday at Roseland Park cemetery. Hoffmeyer, Dorothy L., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 90, passed away Saturday, May 8, 1999 at Arbor Hospice Residence. Dorothy was born April 1, 1909 in Ann Arbor, MI the daughter of William and Anna Dupslaff. She was a life long resident of Ann Arbor and was employed by the University of Michigan School of Music and the Survey Research Center. She married Harold (Shorty) Hoffmeyer on July 3, 1930 in Ann Arbor, MI. Dorothy and Shorty touched many by their square dancing. They taught square dancing through the Ann Arbor Recreation Department; formed several area square dance clubs - the Swinging As, Spinning Stars. She was a life long member of the Michigan Square Dance Leaders Association. Dorothy served for many years with the former Michigan Senior Citizens Society and arranged and coordinated numerous travel tours. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Janet) Hoffmeyer of Clarkston and James (Sally) Hoffmeyer of Catlett, VA; four grandchildren, Debi(Andy) MacKersie, Sherri (Steve) Valsamis, Kristi (Mark) Woods, and Kevin Hoffmeyer; one great-grandson, Alec Valsamis; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold (Shorty), infant daughter, Barbara, two sisters, Augusta Baumgartner, Florence Bailey and brother, Fred Dupslaff. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at 11 a.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Reverend Greg Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethlehem Church or Arbor Hospice Residence in memory of Mrs. Hoffmeyer.

Douglas, Donald Craig, Ann Arbor, MI

Born on October 31, 1900, in East Toledo, Ohio. He attended high school in Toledo. While majoring in engineering at the University of Michigan, Donald was on the track team running the half mile. He graduated in 1922. In 1924, he competed in the 800 meter race for the Olympic trials in Lawrence, Kansas and then the finals in Boston, Massachusetts. He was married in 1924 to Thelma Stevenson and was married 42 years until her untimely death in 1970. After graduation in 1922, Donald worked as a maintenance engineer in Illinois for Park College. In 1928 he began working for Shell Refinery in Wood River, Illinois. After a short stint as a Franklin car dealer, Donald and Thelma moved to Ann Arbor in 1933 where Donald worked for American Broach designing tools for manufacturing. During World War II, he worked at Willow Run helping in plane construction. After working for Fram Oil Filters, Donald joined the University of Michigan engineering department working in an experimental laboratory and then teaching mechanical drawing. He retired in 1970. He was active in the Charles Wesley group of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the Ann Arbor School Board for eight years and helped plan Pioneer High School on Stadium Blvd. During his retirement he designed and built a round building with a spherical dome. He is survived by his four children, Donald O. Douglas of Paducah, Kentucky, Barbara Bovee of Coldwater, MI, Robert Douglas of Dexter, MI, and Jean Burton of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the caring help and support of Individualized Care, Hospice Division of Ann Arbor. The memorial service will be held at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 1999. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the American Cancer Society.

Minneboo, Anthony (Tony), Munith, MI

Age 22, passed away Sunday, May 2, 1999 as the result of a severe automobile accident. Tony was born April 27, 1977 in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Mohammed Gariani and Lynn Minneboo. He was employed by M.B.T.M. of Munith. He married Claire Hendrickson on March 13, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Claire Minneboo; one daughter, Olivia Minneboo; twin brother and sister, Troy and Gloria Minneboo; his parents; great grandmother, Hilda Smith. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Reverend David Bracklein officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. For those who wish, contributions may be made to Olivia Minneboo Scholarship Fund in memory of Mr. Minneboo.

Mayer, Daniel Dwight, Wethersfield, CT

Age 55, the beloved husband of Martha (McCullough) Mayer, died suddenly at home on May 6, 1999. He was born on July 13, 1943 in Ann Arbor, the son of Alfred D. and Florence Durfee Mayer. Dan had resided in Wethersfield for seven years. Previously, he had lived in Michigan, Virginia and Cooperstown, NY. He was a self-employed museum consultant; recently he completed design and installation of a permanent exhibit at the Kenney Memorial Cultural Center for the Wethersfield Historical Society. At the time of his death, he was working on projects in Lebanon and Torrington, CT. He routinely provided design and installation services for the Freedom Forums exhibit space in New York, NY. Institutions with which he consulted included the Connecticut Historical Society, Vermont Folk Life Center, Delaware County (NY) Historical Association, Cedarburg (WI) Cultural Center and an International Cultural Center in Hartford, CT. Dan graduated from Chelsea High School in 1961, Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH and completed the graduate program in Museum Studies at the State University of New York, Oneonta. Subsequently, while an employee of the New York Historical Association at the Farmers Museum in Cooperstown, he was also on the faculty for the Graduate Program. As a consultant, he contributed to exhibits at the Eckley (PA) Miners Village Museum; Manattuck Museum, Waterbury, CT; and organizations in Wisconsin, Michigan and Mississippi. Under programs for the National Park Service he worked at the Scranton Iron Furnaces and in Seattle for the Historic American Engineering Record. He designed and directed the construction/installation of the Visitors Center at Albany, NY under the Urban Cultural Park Program and the New York State Cheese Museum at the Erie Canal Village in Rome, NY. A member of the American Museum Association, he was a founding member of the Society for Industrial Archaeology. Dan was an avid rail fan. He held memberships with the National Model Railroad Association and various regional rail associations. Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Nancy K. (James) Grau of Chelsea; two nieces, Karen (Darren) Girard of Antioch, CA, and Sarah (James) Sloan of Cape Coral, FL; several cousins; and two special friends, Harold Skip McDonald of Dexter and Peter Flintoft of Chelsea and numerous friends across America. Dan was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 12 at 11 a.m. from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Lynn Spitz-Nagel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, Chelsea. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Preservation Chelsea, Historic Zion Lutheran Church Preservation or the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Freeman, Patrick A., Wadsworth, IL

(Formerly of Hamburg, MI)Age 54, died suddenly May 4, 1999 in Canon City, CO. On August 4, 1944, Pat was born the son of Lloyd and the late Mildred (Buike) Freeman. On July 22, 1996, he married his loving wife, Cynthia Zaborowski Freeman, who survives. In addition to his wife and father, Pat is survived by his brother, David (Mary) Freeman of Hamburg and sister, Barbara Frein of Nevada; nieces and nephew, Adam, Sarah and Kristen Freeman. Pat was employed with the Master Mates & Pilots Union for 20 years serving as 1st Mate in the shipping industry. He enjoyed art including pen and ink, oil and metal. He also built three homes which he lived in. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at BELL-BOREK Funeral Home, Hamburg with Fr. Ken Coughlin officiating.

Miles, Joann M., Daytona Beach, FL

(Formerly of Milan, MI)Age 69, died May 7, 1999 at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach. She was born March 10, 1930 in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Marco and Helen (Kaminski) Stefanoff. On September 4, 1953 she married Richard Miles in Paris Island, South Carolina, and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1996. Joann was a resident of Milan from 1948 until 1964. She then, along with her husband, resided in Europe from 1964 until moving to Florida in 1987. She was a member of Pelican Bay Country Club, Daytona Beach, was a past member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan and was a graduate of Mercy College of Detroit. Survivors include three sons, David (Noelle) Miles of Washington, D.C., Richard (Cindy) Miles of Indianapolis, IN, and Kevin (Brigid) Miles of Daytona Beach, FL; one daughter, Evelyn (Konrad) Krawczyk of Milwaukee, WI; and eight grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Smith.Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Monday, May 10, 1999 from 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy begins Tuesday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with procession to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Bosco as Celebrant. Rite of Committal to follow in Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Memorials may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital
