Age 77, passed away Monday, May 10, 1999 at her home. She was born on January 20, 1922 in Dickenson County, VA, daughter of the late Henry and Mollie (Counts) Viers. She is survived by three sons, James Kelmer (Alice) Edwards of Belleville, Jerry (Angie) Edwards of Canton and Carl Ray (Ruth) Edwards of Belleville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five brothers, Whetsle (Laverne) Viers, Henry (Ruth) Viers, Fred (Betty) Viers, all of Belleville, Asie (Thelma) Viers of Virginia and L.C. (Darlene) Viers of Florida; also two sisters, Kelsie Poe and Sue (Woody) Barker, both of Belleville. Preceded in death by her husband, Emory L. Edwards on October 9, 1979, her son Willard Edwards on April 30, 1998, a sister, Gladys Turner; also two brothers, Gene Viers and Jesse Viers. In-state, DAVID C. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, Belleville 6-8 p.m. today with a funeral service at 8 p.m. with Brother Red Johnson officiating. Further services will be held at Haysi Funeral Home of Haysi, Virginia. Memorial contributions to the Wishes of the Edwards Family would be appreciated.

Jasnowski, Margaret Justine, Grass Lake, MI

Age 90, died Sunday, May 9, 1999 at Chelsea Community Hospital. She was born on April 25, 1909 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of John and Sarah (Cypher) Grace. Mrs. Jasnowski moved to Grass Lake six years ago, coming from Lexington, MI. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She married Thomas Taubitz in 1940, and he preceded her in death. In 1972, she married William Jasnowski, and he also preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne (Daniel) Gubachy of Grass Lake; one step-daughter, Lisa (Steve) Boss of Hudsonville; one sister, Harriet Trites of Myrtle Beach, SC; one granddaughter, Patricia (Mark) Rossow of AZ; and four step-grandchildren, Dan, Katy, Roger, Brian. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by the COLE FUNERAL CHAPEL, Chelsea.

Flanigan, Larry Karl, Larry Karl Flanigan, age 64, passed

away on Saturday afternoon, May 8, 1999 at his home in Ann Arbor. Larry was born on November 24, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN to Karl and Dorothy Flanigan. Raised in Paoli, IN, Larry graduated as salutatorian in1953 after serving as class president and basketball captain. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1957, Larry attended the University of Michigan as a doctoral candidate and received his Ph.D. in 1965. Larry became a professor of computer science at the University of Michigan, where he taught and rallied for the Michigan Wolverines for nearly 35 years. Larry was also an avid tennis player and member of the Liberty Sports Complex. Larry is survived by four children, Kevan Flanigan, Northville, MI; Bradley Flanigan, Alexandria, VA; Melanie Flanigan, San Francisco, CA; and Elizabeth Atherton, New Canaan, CT; as well as one sister, Lyn Anzai, Honolulu, HI; and four grandchildren, Alyson, Brooke, Christian, and Catherine Atherton, all in New Canaan. The funeral will be held Thursday, May 13 at 2 p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. Fourth Ave., Ann Arbor. Officiating is long-time friend and pastor, Rev. Erwin R. Koch, formerly of St. Paul Church in Chelsea, MI. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service on May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Hills cemetery, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being established in Larry's name to continue his commitment to educating students at the University of Michigan. Contributions may be sent to the Larry Flanigan Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o the Muehlig Funeral Chapel.

Age 22, died Friday, May 7, 1999 in Beaufort, South Carolina. Dear sonof Bryan and Kathi Boss of Howell; loving brother of Michelle Lee of Novi, Krystel Ann of Ypsilanti and Scott Phillip of Howell. Also surviving are grandparents, Oscar and Fern-Joyce Boss of Brighton and Richard and Mary Harding of Troy. Partain, Allard D., Rogers, AR

(Formerly of Saline, MI)
Died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at St. Marys Hospital, Rogers. He was born November 29, 1925 in Herod, IL, son of Joseph and Eva Cogdill Partain. He was a Foreman for Ford Motor Co. He moved to Rogers 13 years ago from Saline and was a member of Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the Navy during WWII. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister. Survivors include his wife Marian Goodrich, whom he married October 29, 1949 in Angola, IN; son, Allen Joseph Partain of Prattville, MI; two daughters, Michelle Partain of Whitmore Lake and Karla Berger of Saline; brother, Harold Partain of Joilet, IL; three sisters, Blanch Williams of Carmi, IL, Laverne Wallace of Tecumseh, Josie Hicks of Harrisbury, IL; nine grandchildren. Services were held 1 pm Tuesday at Burns Funeral Home with Dr. Gibbie McMillian officiating. Memorials may be made to Feed My Children c/o Burns Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th St, Rogers AR 72756

Hulcher, Wendell Ellsworth, Lakeland, FL

(Formerly of Ann Arbor, MI)
Wendell Ellsworth Hulcher, 76, succumbed to a long illness late Thursday evening, May 6, 1999. He died of an incurable genetic liver disease. Mr. Hulcher was born in Girard, IL, November 3, 1922, to Vena M. Hulcher and Elmer E. Hulcher. As a youngster, he learned the value of hard work and respecting and working effectively with all those around him. An excellent student and athlete at Girard High School, he enrolled at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL, but left school at the age of 18, as a volunteer in the U.S. Army. Soon thereafter he was selected for pilot training in the Army-Air Force and subsequently flew numerous combat missions against Germany and Japan as a bomber pilot. After World War II, he returned to school at Illinois Wesleyan and earned the MBA degree at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. Mr. Hulcher then joined McKinsey and Company as a consultant before serving in key executive positions with Ford Motor Company in Detroit while maintaining his residence in Ann Arbor, MI. Always one to believe strongly that this life should be more to give than to receive, he served as a city councilman in Ann Arbor before being drafted to run for mayor, an office to which he was elected and served for two terms. He is still considered one of Ann Arbors finest mayors. Mr. Hulcher left Ann Arbor and Ford to serve in key government positions in Washington D.C. These included stints in The Office of Intergovernmental Relations, Executive Office of the President (Nixon); Department of State; the Pentagon; U.S. Pay Board, Department of Housing and Urban Development, The U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Possessing a life long goal of service to education as well as to the private and public business communities, Mr. Hulcher joined the faculty and staff of Florida Southern College in May 1979. He particularly enjoyed his role as a teacher but also served as Chairman of the Department of Education and Economics before retiring in 1993. Mr. Hulcher received numerous professional and personal honors over the years including Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the East, Outstanding Civic Leaders of America, Who's Who in the Automotive Industry, Ford Motor Company Civic Award, Small Business Administration Special Achievement Award and outstanding rating; Omicron Delta Kappa (Academic Leadership Award). He was active in the local community serving as Potomac Bicentennial Committee chairman, Potomac Methodist Church Commission on Finance Chairman, First Lakeland Methodist Church Commission on Staff-Parish Relations chairman, Foreign Relations Committee member in Tampa, FL, International Trade Steering Committee member in Polk County, FL, Lakeland Downtown Kiwanis Club member and Board of Directors, Ridge Area Consortium vice chairman for Central Area of Florida. He is survived by his wife, Violet Hulcher, Lakeland, FL; daughter, Karen Hunt, Marietta, GA; sons, Larry Hulcher, Brookeville, MD, Randall Hulcher, Lakeland, FL and Philipp Hulcher, Damascus, MD; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Jean K. Hulcher, Park Hill, OK; and sister, Mary Hulett, Jackson, MI. Heath Funeral Chapel of Lakeland, FL is handling the arrangements. The Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at The First United Church of Lakeland. Elwell, Jackie Lee Butch, Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 40, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 8, 1999. He was born January 2, 1959 in Ypsilanti. Survivors include his parents, Jo Kate and Jack Elwell; three brothers, Tim, Mike and Scott Elwell; several other relatives; and his fishing partner, Dave Rose. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jones, Allie Frances, Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 81, passed away Monday, May 10, 1999 at her home. She was born May 17, 1917 in Morgan Co., KY, daughter of J.F and Cora Walter. On November 4, 1939 she married William H. Jones; he survives. She came to Ypsilanti in 1946, and was a member of Ridge Road Church of Christ. Also surviving are one daughter, Peggy (Charles) Busby of Ypsilanti; one son, Daniel Jones of Ypsilanti; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters, one granddaughter, and one great-great-granddaughter. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Highland cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Ridge Road Church of Christ. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.

Hart, William R., Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 62, passed away Monday, May 10, 1999 at his home. He was born on April 20, 1937 in Detroit, MI. On June 18, 1960 he married Joan Robertson in Detroit, and she survives. Mr. Hart retired from Detroit Fire Department after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2250, and the VFW Post #2408. Also surviving are two sons, Patrick (Kristie), and Tim (Annemarie); four grandchildren; three brothers, Robert, James, and Dennis Hart; and three sisters, Betty Hackett, Nancy Ondecker, and Mary McGuiness. He was preceded in death by one daughter Laura, and a sister Janet Brown. Funeral prayers will begin 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME in Algonac, MI. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's in Algonac, MI. Burial will be in St. Catherine's cemetery. Viewing hours will be Tuesday from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
