Age 55, passed away Monday May 17, 1999 at Bortz Health Care Center in Ypsilanti. He was born September 30, 1943 in Wayne, Michigan, son of the late George A. and Frances (Stejakowski) Sobolewski. Mr. Sobolewski served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Sobolewski is survived by one daughter, Sheri Lynn Sobolewski; his special grandchild, Robin Taylor. He is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Carnahan and Marion (Orman) Reynolds, both of Belleville. He was preceded in death by two brothers Albert and Harry Sobolewski, one sister Barbara Sobolewski, his special friend Linda Rivest and his parents. In-state DAVID C. BROWN HOME 460 E. Huron River Dr., Belleville, MI. where friends may call today 1 until 9 p.m. scripture service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Deacon Peter Cornell, Deacon at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment, Hillside cemetery, Belleville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washtenaw or to the wishes of the Sobolewski Family would be appreciated.

Kimberly, Mark R. (Shark), South Lyon, MI

(Formerly of Ann Arbor)
Age 35, passed away May 15, 1999. He was born on May 18, 1963 to Richard W. and Sandra (Draper) Kimberly in Ann Arbor. Mark enjoyed motorcycling and was a Master Gardner. He is survived by his mother Sandra Claar of Minnesota; his sister Kandis Kimberly of Tennessee; his brothers: Darby Claar of Minnesota and Jonathan Claar of Minnesota; his aunt; uncle; and dear friends Brian and Joann Kimberly of South Lyon, his nephew Logan Claar and relatives and many loving friends. A Memorial Celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at 6 p.m. at the Kimberly residence, 10707 Gamewood, South Lyon, MI. Memorials in Mark's memory, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Suite 2255, 30600 Telegraph Road, Bingham Farms, MI 48025-4532.

Pillsbury, Bernice F. Bigger, Brighton, MI

Age 80, passed away on May 17, 1999. Visitation will be held from 1-9 p.m. on Tuesday at Keehn Funeral Home, 706 W. Main St., Brighton (810-229-9871). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday from St. Patrick Catholic Church, 711 Rickett Rd., Brighton. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Calvary cemetery, Brighton. Memorial contributions are suggested to Livingston Community Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Smiley, Dawn, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 44
Dawn Michele Smiley, daughter,sister, niece and friend, was born in Ann Arbor, MI on September 16, 1954 and died May 14, 1999 after a second battle with brain cancer. She is survived by her parents, Bob and Jackie Smiley of Lady Lakes, FL; sisters, Lynlee (David) Schreiber of Saline and Marti (Gary) Childs of Davis, CA; nephew, Brandon Schreiber; two nieces, Hillary Schreiber and Erin Childs; an uncle, Irving (Babe) Hollis; special, long-time companion, Chuck Misselhorn; cousins; and many friends. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 122 W. Sweet, Gary W. Sr., Saline, MI

Age 56, died Monday, May 17, 1999 at his home. He was born July 23, 1942 in Monroe, MI the son of Carl and Beulah (Bodine) Sweet. He has been a Saline resident for over 32 years. On January 16, 1965 from the St. James U.C.C. he married Mary Ann Socks and she survives. Gary was a member of the St. Paul U.C.C. of Saline and the U.S. Air Force serving during the Viet Nam conflict. He attended Cleary College for two years and had been a salesman for Cueter-Serra Chrysler Plymouth Jeep in Ypsilanti for several years. Survivors in addition to his wife include three children, Dawn Sweet, Kathleen (Randy) Winters, Gary Sweet Jr., all of Saline; and his fiancee Shannon Rucinski; other survivors include, two granddaughters Kyla and Madison; his mother Beulah Sweet of Monroe; four sisters; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Sweet in 1988. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 20, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the St. Paul U.C.C. of Saline, with Rev. Ronald Boldman officiating. Burial will take place in the St. James. U.C.C. cemetery in Saline Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul U.C.C. Building Fund Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home where friends may begin calling on Wednesday between the hours of 12 noon-9 p.m. and from the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Sedlander, E. John, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 81, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 16, 1999, at Karrington of Ann Arbor. He was born on September 13, 1917, the son of Hjalmar and Hilda Marie (Palmgard) Sedlander. John graduated from Michigan State University, where he met Mary Elizabeth Wingate, who he married on May 20, 1943. Mary preceded him in death on June 25, 1996. John retired in 1979, after 38 years in the Sales Department of Burroughs Corporation. John and Mary had moved to Ann Arbor in 1964, where they have been active members of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a founding member of the President's Council of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. John had been a very active volunteer in Ann Arbor, serving on the Board of the American Red Cross, Washtenaw County Chapter, The Washtenaw County Literacy Council, The Ann Arbor Public Schools Adult Education Tutoring Program, Housing Bureau for Seniors and the Washtenaw Council of Aging. During WWII, John was Lt. Colonel in the Army Air Corp, serving as a bomber pilot in the Pacific. He is survived by his children, John (Ellen Flanagan) Sedlander of Petaluma, CA and Anne (Russell) Dewey of Statesboro, GA; and seven grandchildren. Memorial tributes may be made in John's honor to the Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Association. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 1400 W. Stadium Blvd. with Pastor Thomas D. Prochaska, officiating. Arrangements by NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter Rd.

Binhammer, Louise E. Braun, Detroit, MI

Age 97, beloved mother of Charlotte Binhammer, and Eleanor Hartfield. Dear sister to Fern Shaffer, Betty Princehorn, and Paul Braun. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 until 9 P.M. The funeral service will be held Thursday 1:00 P.M. at Casterline Funeral Home, Inc. 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. Clare, Patty, Northumberland, PA

(Formerly of Ann Arbor)
Age 85, died Saturday, May 15, 1999 at the Nottingham Village Nursing Home, Northumberland, PA which she had been a patient for 6 years. She was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on December 19, 1913 a daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Elam Clare. She had lived in Ann Arbor since 1947. She received her B.A. degree from North Central College, Galesburg, Ill, and her M.S degree from the University of Michigan in english literature and library science. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Ann Arbor. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert A. (Constance N.) Miller, and a son, Christopher Alvin Zander, both of Bloomsburg, PA; one grandson; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; one step-great-grandson; a brother, Dr. Frank B. Clare, Portsmouth, VA; and two sisters, Merry Yoakum and Connie Jassen, both of Seattle, WA. A daughter Judith A. Chapel died January 30, 1972. Graveside services, Thursday at 3 p.m. in Forrest Hill cemetery, 415 Observatory, Ann Arbor, MI. No viewing. Arrangements by DEAN W. KRINER, INC., FUNERAL HOME, 325 MarketSt., Bloomsburg, PA.

Acub, Flordelina D., Ypsilanti, MI

Age 64, passed away suddenly Saturday, May 15, 1999 in Minnesota. She was born January 21, 1935 in Lallo Cagayan, Philippines, the daughter of Juan and Carmen (Biseyte) Dazo. On November 20, 1954, she married Ceferino Acub in the Philippines, and he survives. Mrs. Acub attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor. In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Julie (Wendell) Lewis of Ypsilanti, Susie Acub of the Philippines and Debbie (David) Seaborne of Carleton, MI; four sons, Dennis and William (Mariette) Acub, both of Ypsilanti and Rudolph (Corazon) and Francis Acub, both of the Philippines; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. The funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, 1999 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Fr. James McDougall celebrant. Burial will follow in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Robertson-Jackson, Betty J., Ypsilanti, MI

Age 53, passed away Sunday, May 16, 1999 at home. She was born November 17, 1945 in Tuscaloosa, AL, the daughter of Eddie and Alberta (Nixon) Robertson. She was united in holy matrimony to Jessie Jackson in Michigan. Betty was a member of Spiritual Israel Church and It's Army and she worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for 12 years as a Surgical Instrument Technician. In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters, Danielle Robertson and Zandra Robertson, both of Ypsilanti; three sons, Terry, Marcus and Michael (Catrece), all of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Belinda (Melvin) Steele of AL, Carolyn (Ollie) Marshall of Ypsilanti, Pearl (Raymond) Stromen of Ypsilanti and Estella (Jerry) Carter of AL; three brothers, Curtis (Dolly) Robertson, Eddie Robertson, and Victor Robertson, all of AL; maternal grandmother, Emma Nixon of AL; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Elder Richard Foster of Spiritual Israel Church officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday

Harden, Charie Taylor, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 58, passed away Sunday, May 16, 1999 at the Oakwood Hospital Beyer Center. She was born April 30, 1941 in Karnak, IL, the daughter of Harry and Esther (Guy) Taylor. Charie worked for Quality Container, as an inspector, for 14 years. Survivors include her mother Esther; two brothers, Merrell (Phyllis) Taylor of TX and Jay (Violet) Taylor of CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Peggy Jean. The memorial service will be 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with her nephew, Mr Tylyn Taylor officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

Bashaw-Stifler, Jack Dean

Ypsilanti, MI
Born in Monroe, MI, September 26, 1947, passed away in Ann Arbor, MI, May 16, 1999 from an injury received from a falling tree branch which struck him while he worked in his garden. This accident ended a life devoted to the beautification of this world and the family he so loved. Jack was a gifted man: a brilliant artist, a sculptor, a gardener, a gourmet chef, a loving husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, and a son. He shared his life with Robert Dargel, his husband of nineteen years; his children, Maggie, Matt, Amity; and his extended family, Cindie, Keith, Pam, Steve, Emily, Austin, Olivia, Deborah, Mully, Carol, Nancy, Joan, Bill, Donald; and his mother, Marguerite. Of the many ideas that made up such a rich life, there were two that possessed Jack's heart quite completely: beauty and family. Jack's life was filled by creating ever-increasing objects of beauty and an ever-larger and more loving family. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL on Thursday, 4-9 p.m. with a memory sharing from 7-9 p.m. Service time is pending.

Freeman, Thelma Diane, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 50, passed away May 15, 1999 at home. She was born March 22, 1949 in Ypsilanti the daughter of George Bud and Willie B. Freeman. She was a very active member of Christ Temple Baptist Church and known for her strong faith. Survivors include her father, George Bud Freeman; one daughter, Trina Freeman; two grandchildren, Tasha Vick and Nashar Jackson; five brothers, Prince, Bill, Lovell, Earl, and Connell. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, May 20 at Lucille's Funeral Home, 411 S. Adams, Ypsilanti with a family hour from 7-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21 at Christ Temple Baptist Church, 2372 Holmes Rd. Burial in United Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the family at 9260 Macarthur Blvd., Ypsilanti, MI 48198.
