Age 55, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 22, 1999 at his residence. He was born September 20, 1943 in Ann Arbor, MI. He was employed by Motor Wheel Corp. for 27 years, medically retiring in 1996. Mr. Ward was the former owner of Ward's Sporting Goods in Ypsilanti. He was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt and fish. Survivors include: his loving wife, Barbara; three sons, Alan (Andrea) of Westland, MI, Scott of Belleville and Ryan (Karen) of KS; one daughter, Wendy (Eric) White of New Boston, MI; two stepdaughters, Barbara (Gregg) Orsborn of CO and Lisa (Lloyd) Pepper of Belleville; 15 grandchildren; one great grandson; and one brother, Russell Ward of Ypsilanti. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Taylor, Viola, Cherokee, IA

Died Sunday, May 16, 1999. She was born July 26, 1905 to August and Bertha (Neuhalfen), in Blue Earth, MN. On June 18, 1925, she married George Taylor. He preceded her in death in 1986. Survivors include her daughter, Sherry Held and her husband, Warren of Cherokee; one son, Rev. George T. Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Ypsilanti, MI; grandchildren, Greg Held and his wife, Meryl of Cherokee; Holly Ohlson and her husband, Tim Meriden, IA; Heidi Held of Cedar Rapids, IA; Michelle Bryant and her husband, Larry of Detroit, MI; Steven, Jason, Elizabeth, Michael Taylor of Ypsilanti, MI; great-grandchildren, Ben, Courtney, Rachel, Rebecca and Larissa Held; Matt, Melanie, and Michaela Ohlsen; Cassandra, Lisa, Jennifer and Dustin Bryant; one sister-in-law, Mildred Neuhalfen. Her husband and three brothers preceded her in death.

Borke, Herman J., Pittsfield Township, MI

(Formerly of Ypsilanti, MI)
Age 91, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Arbor Hospice Residence. Mr. Borke was born on January 10, 1908 in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Frank and Rose (Donegan) Borke. On September 28, 1929, he was married to Irene Rocklin, who survives. He was a traffic manager for New York Central Railroad for 25 years and retired from the University of Michigan in 1971. He is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Mary (Linwood) Stoddard of Pittsfield Township, and a son, Robert (Marilyn) Borke of Gladwin, MI; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren & two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Friend in 1971. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd. Burial in Arborcrest cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made in his honor to the Arbor Hospice; envelopes are available at the NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter Rd., where the family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Collins, William J., Chelsea, MI

Age 91, died Monday morning May 24, 1999 at Chelsea Community Hospital. He was born October 13, 1907 in Clifton, AZ, the son of William Jacob and Mabel (Jacobson) Collins. Mr. Collins had been a resident of Chelsea since 1946 having moved from Stockbridge, Michigan where he had served as Principal of Stockbridge High School. Bill had stated that he had taught almost everything except home ec. He had also taught in Iron Mt., Cooks, and Almont, Michigan. Upon moving to Chelsea he was employed at Dana Corp. as production manager. He retired from Dana and began employment with his son-in-law at Merkel Home Furnishings. Bill retired from Merkels in 1995. He was a former member of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club, and the McKune Library Board. Mr. Collins was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita H. Versailles, they would have celebrated their 65 wedding anniversary on August 15, 1999. Also surviving are their three children, David W. Collins of Youngstown, OH, Barbara J. (Robert) Merkel of Ann Arbor and James A. (Florence A.) Collins of Chelsea; nine grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Wojciehowski of Chelsea and Ruth Behr of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Rowe and a brother Edward Collins. The funeral Mass will be held Thursday May 27 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the STAFFAN-MITCHELL FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Chelsea. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Mary Church Building Fund or McKune Memorial Library.

Ward, Evelyn L., Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 66, died Sunday, May 23, 1999 at Oakwood Hospital Beyer Center. She was born May 10, 1933, in Dudley, MO, the daughter of James E. and Gertrude (Shipley) Morris. On August 15, 1967, she married Paul Ward, and he survives. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ypsilanti Ward. She was also an active Volunteer Librarian with the Family History Library in Ann Arbor. Survivors besides her husband include eight children: Sharon Boyette, Larry (Sandra) Ward, Bobby (Gloria) Smith, Jo-Anne (Carl) Girbach, Sandra Malone, Claudette (Cedric) Boyd, Michael Smith and Greg (Janice) Smith; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her Mother, Gertrude Morris; two brothers and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her Father and one sister. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 28 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 941 S. Grove Rd., Ypsilanti, with Bishop Brent Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Contributions in Mrs. Ward's honor may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for their Humanitarian Fund or Temple Fund. Envelopes will be available at JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, GEER-LOGAN CHAPEL where the family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 12 Noon until time of service.

Heusel, Richard F. Dick", A memorial service will be held for

Richard F. "Dick" Heusel in the Chapel of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 306 N. Division, Ann Arbor, on Saturday, May 29, at 3 p.m. Mr. Heusel, formerly of Ann Arbor, was received into heaven on April 19. Born April 1, 1916 in Ann Arbor, he was the son of Talitha and Frederick Heusel. After graduating from Ann Arbor High, he worked for the King Seeley Corporation, and later became a partner in the George Airey Building Company, where he was involved in developing southwest Ann Arbor. In 1959, Heusel and his wife, Sara, moved to Bastrop, Louisiana, where they founded the Bastrop Motel Enterprises, and later Heusel Realty. Heusel was instrumental in developing affordable housing in the Bastrop area. Heusel is survived by his wife, Sara Heusel; one son, Richard Jr. and his wife, Laney; a grandson, Tray and his wife; one brother, Ted Heusel and his wife; and several nieces and nephews. The Rev. Michael Heusel, nephew of Richard Heusel will officiate at the memorial service. Although Dick Heusel left Ann Arbor 40 years ago, he is survived by many friends, and the family wishes to invite those friends who would like to share their memories to the May 29 memorial service.

Kenney, Mary Craig Davison, Ann Arbor, MI

Mary Craig Davison Kenney, age 52, died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Ann Arbor on May 26, 1999 following a long and valiant fight against breast cancer. Mary Craig was a dedicated and beloved teacher in the Ann Arbor Public Schools and will be remembered fondly by her students and colleagues alike. Currently a fifth grade teacher at Pittsfield Elementary School, she also taught in the Whitmore Lake Public Schools and at Children's Psychiatric Hospital at the University of Michigan pursuant to her Master's Degree in Special Education. She was especially gifted in the teaching of children with emotional problems, but always managed to bring out the best in each student. A native of Flint, MI, she attended Kingswood School, Cranbrook and graduated from the Eastern Michigan University School of Education. She also had a career in business and real estate and was very active in her community. She was particularly active in the Republican Party, which came naturally to her as the granddaughter of Arthur E. Summerfield, Postmaster General under President Dwight Eisenhower. She is survived by a son, Charles G. Lippincott of Flint; her husband, Donald H. Kenney of Ann Arbor; her mother, Mrs. John E. MacArthur of Flint; a sister, Cynthia Abbot of Westin, Mass.; and four step-children, James H. Kenney of Houston, TX, Paul M. Kenney of Portland, OR, Laura Kenney Schang of Appleton, WI, and Matthew M. Kenney of San Francisco, CA; and three step-grandchildren. At 4 p.m., Friday, May 28, 1999, a memorial service will take place at First Presbyterian Church, 1432 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI, where she was a member and ordained deacon. A funeral service will also take place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Saginaw Street, Flint, MI at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999, followed by interment at Sunset Hills cemetery in Flint. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the University of Michigan Cancer Center-Breast Cancer Research Program, Ann Arbor, MI in her name.

Foerster, Richard Henry III, "Ricky"

Saline, MI
Age 26, died suddenly Tuesday, May 25, 1999. He was born September 17, 1972 in Finley, OH the son of Richard H. and Cathy (Schlueter) Foerster II. Ricky graduated from Saline High School in 1991 and from EMU in 1995, and he was also a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church of Saline. Survivors include his parents, Cathy and Richard Foerster II; three sisters, Debbie, Bernadette (Bunny) and Michelle Foerster; one nephew, Devin; his paternal grandmother, Jeannette Foerster; his aunt, Annette Weil; two cousins, Robert and Jimmy Weil and many friends. There will be a visitation for family and close friends, 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 28, at the Nie Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at St.Andrews Catholic Church of Saline, with Rev. Fr. Jay Kersten, Celebrant. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the church with burial following at Lodi Township cemetery.

Passafiume, Clara E., Chelsea, MI

Age 84, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999 at Glacier Hills Nursing Center in Ann Arbor. She was born on November 3, 1914 in Van Buren Township, Wayne County, Michigan, the daughter of Emiel & Anna (Michling) Marquardt. She married Frank Passafiume in Detroit on February 12, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1951. Survivors include one son, Robert John Passafiume of Romulus; one daughter, Antoinette Toni (Larry) Hawker of Chelsea; five grandchildren, Lori Mitchell of Roscommon, Tracy Santure of Saline, Steven Hawker of Grass Lake, Kelly Hickey of Saline, and Christopher Passafiume of Eugene, OR; and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 1, 11 a.m. at Glacier Hills Nursing Center, with Dr. Douglas Sherman officiating. Burial will be Friday, May 28, 10 a.m. at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Detroit. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association or Glacier Hills. Arrangements by Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.

Seeman, Walter, Brighton, MI

Age 83, passed away May 26, 1999. Visitation will be held Friday, May 28, 5-9 p.m. at the Keehn Funeral Home, 706 W. Main, Brighton (810) 229-9871. Funeral service will be Saturday -- call funeral home for time.

Boyd, Michael, Pinckney, MI

Age 52, died May 26, 1999 at University Hospital. Mike was born on December 7, 1946, the son of the late Gerald and Estelle Boyd. On June 26, 1965, Mike married his loving wife Pamela (Bockelman) Boyd, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Michael (Dina), Theresa (Gary) Leonard, and Ashley, all of Pinckney; his siblings, Tommy of Maryland, Joan Wallace of Brighton, Margaret Dowell of Wixom, Sharon Houle of California, Ben of Florida, and Nora Boyd of Arizona; his grandchildren, Cody, Kylie, and Shelby Leonard and Brooke Boyd. Mike was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Mike owned and operated Michael's Salon on Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor and was a 23 year employee and manager of the Hair Cut House at Briarwood Mall. He loved to golf and hunt and he will be long remembered for organizing and running nine consecutive golf outings to support cancer research at Mott Children's Hospital. Visitation Thursday 6-9 p.m. and Friday 2-9 p.m. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 1999 at BELL-BOREK FUNERAL HOME, Hamburg with Rev. Carl F. Welser officiating. Burial Pinckney cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Michael Boyd Memorial Fund would be appreciated, envelopes are available at Bell-Borek.

Drury, Donald H., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 73, died Wednesday morning, May 26, 1999, at his home of 47 years. He was born September 2, 1925, in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Walter and Jeannette (Doane) Drury. On April 28, 1946, he married Bettie Smith, who survives. A 1943 graduate of Ann Arbor High, Don joined the Merchant Marine the following spring. After leaving the service, he returned to Ann Arbor, where he was engaged in retail business for more than 40 years. Don had an avid interest in flying model airplanes, a hobby that caught his fancy early on. As a boy, he launched planes from the upstairs window of his home near Burns Park. He later refined his flying ability with the local model aviation club and shared his hobby with his grandson, Andy Steele. In addition to his wife and grandson, survivors include his daughter, Jane (Dan) Steele; son-in-law, Arthur (Bud) Scherdt, Jr.; grandchildren, Amy Scherdt and Rebecca (Scott) Becklehamer; brother, Richard Drury; sister, Virginia Denham; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Scherdt; brother, W. Edward Drury; and his parents. Don had the gift of easily extending friendship to both children and adults alike. We loved him deeply and will miss our friend. Memorial tributes may be made in his honor to Arbor Hospice or St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Cancer Care Center. The family will receive friends Friday, May 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL HOME. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 29, at 1 p.m. at Muehlig's.

Hobbs, Dr. Monte V., Ann Arbor, MI

Dr. Monte V. Hobbs, 44, an associate research scientist in the school of Public Health at the University of Michigan, died unexpectedly May 26. A native of Iowa, Dr. Hobbs received his PhD from the University of Iowa and did research in immunology at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, from 1982-1995 before coming to Ann Arbor. He was a leading researcher in the relationship of immunology and the aging process, but he excelled in helping young scientists establish their careers and is remembered for the breadth of his reading and his delight in long conversations, good wine and jazz. Abou Ben AdhemAbou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!) Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace, And saw, within the moonlight in his room, Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom, An angel writing in a book of gold: - Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold, And to the presence in the room he said, 'What writest thou?' - The vision rais'd its head, And with a look made of all sweet accord, Answer'd, 'The names of those who love the Lord."And is mine one?' said Abou. 'Nay, not so,' Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low, But cheerly still; and said,'I pray thee, then, Write me as one that loves his fellow men.' The angel, wrote, and vanish'd. The next night. It came again with a great wakening light, And show'd the names whom love of God had blest, And lo! BenAdhem's name led all the rest. -Leigh Hunt Dr. Hobbs is survived by wife, Dr. Rosemary Rochford; his father, Mervin Hobbs; a brother, Mick Hobbs; a sister, Lisa Anderson; and four nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the U.M. School of Public Health, Dept of Epidemiology for a scholarship in Dr. Hobbs' name. Visitation at the NIE FUNERAL HOME is Friday, May 28, from 12 noon - 2 p.m. at funeral home, and burial in Forest Hill cemetery.

Kleinschmidt, Ruth M., Saline, MI

Age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born January 16, 1914 in Saline Township, the daughter of Merle and Amy (Peffley) Trout. She married Walter F. Kleinschmidt on September 24, 1935 in Saline and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Janice E. Lane of Ann Arbor; a grandson, Jeffrey S. (Leslie C.) Lane of Gregory, MI; a granddaughter, Dawn M. Lane of Ann Arbor; and a step great grandson, Steven L. Smythof Gregory; her sisters, Wilhelmine Halbert of Grand Rapids and Mabel (Raymond) Roseboom of Orlando, FL; sisters-in-law, Jewel Trout of Saline and Ruth Trout of Fullerton, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald and Lewis Trout; and sisters, Alice McTaggart and Carol Wilson. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 29, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. from theRobison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline with Rev. David J. Grinnell officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saline Evangelical Home. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the timeof service. Burial will take place in Oakwood cemetery, Saline.
