Zeeb, Ruth E., Jackson, MI

Age 93, died Friday, February 5, 1999 at Heartland Health Care Center-Martin. She was born on March 15, 1905 in Norvell Township, MI, the daughter of Charles and Mamie (Hess) Ray. Mrs. Zeeb moved to Jackson from her home in Chelsea on April 8, 1996. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and Altar Society in Chelsea, a member of Chelsea Senior Citizens and was a volunteer at Faith In Action. Mrs. Zeeb was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and had been an Elementary School Teacher. On April 14, 1928, she married Walter M. Zeeb in Bunker Hill, MI, and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1989. Survivors include two sons, Rev. Fr. Charles Zeeb of Clinton Township, MI and Walter (Sandy) Zeeb of Chelsea; three daughters, Margaret Novess and Rose Williams of Jackson and Doris (Bobby) Dawkins of New Mexico; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 8, 1999, 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Chelsea, with Rev. Fr. Charles Zeeb officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends at the Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea Sunday 1-5 p.m. and at the church 6-8 p.m. with the vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Catholic Church or Individualized Hospice.

Butler, Marguerite McMichaels, Ann Arbor, MI

Mrs. Butler, born January 9, 1908 in Ironton, Ohio, died peacefully on January 4, 1999 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mrs. Butlers final years were brightened by the loving care received from the staff at Glacier Hills Nursing Center. She is survived by daughter, Peggy (Mrs. Raymond L.) Holcomb of Ann Arbor; her sister Alberta (Mrs. Joseph) Ivey of West Palm Beach, Florida; and numerous grandchildren. Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her husband Melvin E. Kingsbury (1958), husband Dr. Roy E. Bulter (1975) and her son, Robert Blaine Kingsbury (1989). Interment has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions are invited to Glacier Hills, 1200 Earhart Road, Ann Arbor 48105.

Graves, Mark William, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 38, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born February 17, 1960, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of Richard J. and Eugenia M. (Burrett) Graves. Mark was employed as a computer programmer at A.D.P. in Ann Arbor, and also was the owner of the Bangkok Grill in Toledo, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Prisada Sriamdi of Toledo, Ohio; father and loving step-mother, Richard and Lou Graves of Whitmore Lake; two brothers, Greg (Jeanne) Graves of Troy, Michigan and David (Margaret Opland) Graves of New Milford, Conn; six nieces and nephews; aunt and uncle, Reginald and Doris Mitchell of Big Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1984. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 7, 1999 at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Allen officiating. Contributions may be to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the time of service or by contacting JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, Geer-Logan Chapel.

Sell, Robert E., Lakeland, MI

Age 73, died Wednesday, February 3, 1999 at Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Arizona. He was born in Ann Arbor on June 3, 1925, the son of Edward and Alma (Gauss) Sell. Mr. Sell proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. On June 15, 1946 he married Della Burkhardt in Saline and she survives him. The Sells were long-time residents of Ann Arbor and members of Zion Lutheran Church. Robert retired from Allied Enterprises. Along with his wife, Della, Robert is survived by; his children, Daryl (Margaret) of Ypsilanti, Darwin (Rhonda) of Libbey, MT, Douglas (Katina) of St. Thomas, USVI and Dina (Fred) Waddell of Vicksburg, MI; sister, Helen Brown of Saline; and by 12 grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday, February 9, at 2:00 p.m. MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Rev. Brandt from Shalom Lutheran Church in Pinckney presiding. The family will receive visitors on Monday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bethlehem cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the U of M Botanical Gardens or the American Heart Association.

Williams, Lois Erickson, Sun City Center, FL

Lois Erickson Williams (nee Gaines), age 70, died Friday, January 29, 1999 at Tampa General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Detroit, MI on February 9, 1928 and a native of Milan, MI she resided in Waterville, OH for 44 years. She and her husband of 45 years, George II, moved to Sun City Center, FL in October 1997. She was a registered nurse and Utilitization Coordinator at St. Lukes Hospital in Maumee, OH for over 25 years. She is survived by her husband, George II; four sons, Timothy (Val) Reule of Mt. Vernon, WA, George (Kristie) Williams III of Maumee, OH, Eric (Leslie) Williams of Clintonville, OH, Christopher (Gwyn) Williams of Westerville, OH; and three daughters, Kim (John) Haynes of Novi, MI, Nancy (Steve) Anrold of Waterville, OH, and Michele (Jose) Vale of Delaware, OH; 22 grandchildren; and three sisters, Alice Jean (Larry) Gabert of Westminster, CA, Signe Ruth (Clyde) Sponster of Sun City, CA, Audrey Frances (Donald) Staulter of Milan, MI; and two brothers, Claude (Rosemary) Gaines of Anaheim, CA, and John (Barbara) Gaines of Milan, MI. Memorial services to be held February 10 at Zion Lutheran Church, Westerville, OH.

Huhn, Vivian, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 93, died Friday, February 5, 1999 at her home. She was born May 27, 1905 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of Frederick E. and Alice (Gall) Hanford. Vivian married William R. Huhn of July 8, 1948 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1970. She was Deputy City Clerk from 1944 through 1949 and was employed by Underwriters Adjusting Company from then until retirement in 1967. Vivian was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, a member of the Auxiliary Circle of the Women's Fellowship of the Church, a charter member of the Elks Arboretts, and the Senior Citizen Guild. She is survived by a niece Mary Jane Fields of San Diego, CA; and two grandnephews John (Susan) Huhn of White Lake, MI; and their children and William (Rebecca) Huhn of Jackson, MI and their children. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 8, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hill cemetery with Rev. Gregory Smith officiating. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Bethlehem Church or the Ann Arbor Elks. MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL in charge of arrangements.

Smith, Dorothy Alma Carlson, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 97, Dorothy passed away on February 1, 1999 at Hillside Terrace Nursing Center. She was born in Chicago, IL, on December 29, 1901, the daughter of Erland and Alma Carlson, young Swedish immigrants, who soon moved their growing family to the abundant land of central Wisconsin. Dorothy attended Wisconsin State Teachers College at Stevens Point and began a long teaching career, first in a one room rural school, later in the Wisconsin towns of Lake Mills and Johnson Creek. She taught seventh and eighth grade, particularly math and history until retiring in 1965. She married Harold Smith of Lake Mills on June 27, 1936. They had one daughter, Val (Paul) Rasmussen, Ann Arbor. Harold preceded her in death in 1979, after 43 years of marriage. Dorothy was a member of the Lake Mills Moravian Church and was very active in the church and in the community of Lake Mills during the 50+years she lived there. She moved to Ann Arbor in 1983 to be nearer her family. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Val and Paul Rasmusen; three grandchildren, Lorin Bryce of Austin, TX., Erin Zdechlik of Lake Elmo, MN., and Marit Rasmussen of Chicago, IL; three great-grandchildren, Mary and Michael Bryce, and Jack Zdechlik; one sister, Berniece Helterhoff of Middleton, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers, Paul, George, Gustave, and Oscar, and three sisters, Esther, Elsie and Edna predeceased her. A memorial service will be held in Lake Mills, WI. in April. Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Dorothy to the Hillside Terrace Therapy Garden Fund, Hillside Terrace Nursing Center, 1939 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

Farmer, Ocie A., Whitetop, VA

Age 83, passed away Friday, February 5, 1999 at Chelsea Hospital, following a prolonged illness. She was born on March 15, 1915, the daughter of Thomas and Ettie (Johnson) Hamm in Lansing, NC. She married John H. Farmer, and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1967. She was an avid quilter and gardener, and very active in the Whitetop Senior Citizen Center in Whitetop, VA. Survivors included; five sons and two daughters, Henry (Lucille), Johnny (Laurie), Jimmy (Patricia), Leroy (Janice), Doug (Kathy), Shirley (Phil) Weaver and Ann (Joe) Calhoun; 32 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mecie Rupard and Effie Wingler of Whitetop, VA; and one daughter-in-law, Donna Farmer of Ypsilanti, MI. She was preceded in death by son Larry Farmer, two brothers, and three sisters. Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 7, 1999 from 5-9 p.m. at the STARK FUNERAL SERVICE, Moore Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will take place in Virginia. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Masters, Jerry, Clinton, MI

Age 47, died Saturday, February 6, 1999 at home. He was born October 17, 1951 to Ralph and Helen (Struble) Master in Ypsilanti, MI. On March 11, 1988 he married Deanne Dee Kreutzberger. She survives. Jerry was employed by the University of Michigan Central Power Plant and served three years with the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the congregation of the Tecumseh Jehovah's Witness. In addition to his wife, Dee, he is also survived by his mother, Helen Masters Waldon of Saline; two daughters, Vicki (James) Denwiddie of Adrian, and Candice (Dan) Jackson of Tecumseh; one brother, Thomas (Elaine) Masters of Ann Arbor; and one sister, Susan (Vernon) Blackburn of Ypsilanti. He was preceded in death by his father. A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m., Monday, February 8, 1999 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, in Tecumseh, with Clarence (Tony) Masson officiating. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to COUTURE-HANDLER FUNERAL HOME.

Hendricks, Irene L., Ypsilanti, MI

Age 70, passed away Friday, February 5, 1999 at home. She was born on December 9, 1928 on Lookout Mountain, Georgia, the daughter of John and Mary (Stone) Johnson. In 1948, she married Arthur Hendricks in Napoleon, Ohio and he preceded her in death on January 28, 1997. Mrs. Hendricks interests included archery, bowling, slot machines, playing cards, hunting and fishing. Survivors include: five daughters, Kathleen May of Ypsilanti, Patsy (Everett) Ebeler of Tecumseh, Shelly (Rolland) Steele of Belleville, Rhonda (Tim) Compau of Belleville and Tami (Paul) Burke of Petersburg, MI; nine grandchildren, Tonya Oliver, Tracy May, Art Ebeler, Shawn Ebeler, Niki Burke, Bobby Burke, Kristen Morris, Timothy Compau, and Jenny Compau; six great-grandchildren, Peter Eckhardt, Erik Richardson, Aubrey Morris, Kenny Oliver, Ashton Ebeler, and Brittany Compau; five sisters, Lena Martin, Louise Adams, Hiawatha Haydon, Evelyn Turco, and Ruth Broderick; one brother, Frankie Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers. The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Hanss officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 8 from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice.

Gurney (Lee Bilotta), Mildred, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 85, beloved mother of Harold and Kathy Bilotta went home to be with her Savior whom she has always loved and adored on Saturday, February 7, 1999. There she is joined by members of her family gone on before in a reunion around Gods throne. She was born January 21, 1914 the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Rossi) Lee; she was one of eleven children. She is survived by her son Reverend Harold and his wife Margarete; her daughter Kathy; her four grandchildren, Carole Guindon (Vern), H. Stephen Bilotta Jr. (Laura), Jennifer Eller (Randy) and David Bilotta; seven great grandchildren, Brandon, Garrett, Nathaniel, and Connor Eller, Jared Guindon, and Stephen Joseph and Jasmine Bilotta; and three sisters and one brother. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at 2:30 pm at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL with Reverend Philip Cambers officiating. Interment will be in Washtenong Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3-9 pm. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the New Life Assembly of God Church of Ann Arbor or the Heartland Hospice.

Canada, William D., Ann Arbor, MI

Born in Karnak, IL on March 20, 1932, went to live with his lord on February 7, 1999 at his home. Bill served in the U.S. Navy on an aircraft carrier during the Korean conflict. He was a dedicated police officer for the Ann Arbor Police Dept. for 26 years. Upon retirement he was able to turn one of his passions into a job by working at the Huron Hills Golf Course for the last 10 years. Bill had been a member of Packard Road Baptist Church for 43 years where he taught Sunday school and lead the singing as well as serving as a deacon. His wife of 43 years, Lydia (Sielbeck) Canada grew up next door to him and had known each other their entire lives. They would have been together another 43 years if it had been possible. Born to Bill and Lydia was one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wanshon Langley (Curt). He had three grandchildren, Derek Wanshon, Joshua Langley and Hannah Langley as well as many nieces and nephews and a great many friends, Eleanor Fern and Joe Winter who he loved as a sister and brother and Clara Sielbeck who had been a mother to him survive. Also surviving are his sisters, Mildred Holshouser of Hillsboro, IL, Margaret (Richard) McMullen of Saline, MI, Earline (Don) Welton of Ann Arbor, MI, Brenda (Tim) Atchinson of Jackson, MI; brothers, Bob (Lela) Canada of Belknap, IL, and Warren (Vivian) Canada of Springfield, IL; and a special Aunt Mickey of NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lois (Smith) Canada of Karnak, IL and his brother Jim Canada. The family will receive friends at the NIE Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Rd., Ann Arbor, on Tuesday, February 9, 1999 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Packard Road Baptist Church, 2580 Packard Rd., Ann Arbor, on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Hardin. Burial will take place at Washtenong Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to Spinabifida Research at the University of Michigan Hospitals. Flynn, Joseph E., Chelsea, MI

(Formerly of Ann Arbor, MI)Age 86, died Saturday morning, February 6, 1999 at the Chelsea Retirement Community. He was born July 30, 1912 in Deerfield Township, MI, the son of James C. and Margaret (Walsh) Flynn. Mr. Flynn had been a resident of Chelsea since April 2, 1997. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church of Ann Arbor and served as an usher for 10 years. He attended St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea. He was a former member of the Ann Arbor Host Lions Club. Joe enjoyed playing golf and cards. Mr. Flynn was retired from Detroit Edison and was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy. In Boston, Mass. on August 4, 1943, he married Ruth E. Brock, and she survives. Also surviving are his three children, Patrick J. (Lorraine Vega) Flynn of San Francisco, CA, Lynette (Martin) Woytovich of Garden City, MI and Kathleen (Graham) Parsons of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren, Joseph, Melissa, and Kathryn Marie Woytovich; and his sister, Sister Margaret Flynn of Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, February 13 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Chelsea Retirement Community with Rev. Fr. Charles Irvin of St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Chelsea Retirement Community or St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea. The family will receive friends following the service at a luncheon in the Town Hall of the Chelsea Retirement Community. Arrangements by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea.

Taylor, Ruth L., Milan, MI

Age 77, died Saturday, February 6, 1999 at home with her family by her side. She was born January 20, 1922 in West Virginia to Owen and May (Stafford) Childers. On August 20, 1938 she married Marvin Taylor in Indiana; he preceded her in death January 24, 1993. She is survived by three children, Barbara Parks of Hudson, MI, Marlene (Jim) Prouty of Ypsilanti and Michael Taylor of Kalkaska; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and four sisters, Sadie Moore of Indiana, Ruby Ryan, Jenny (Jerry) Blake and Eva (Dan) Nathan, all of Florida.Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert and a brother, Robert. Private graveside services will be held Tuesday at London Township cemetery with Rev. Ralph Lefler officiating. Arrangements by Ochalek-Stark, Milan.

Rosentreter, Neil Frederick, Chelsea, MI

Age 52, died peacefully at his home from cancer on Monday, February 8, 1999. He was born on February 11, 1946 in Ann Arbor, MI, son of Albert F. and Evelyn (Toon) Rosentreter. Neil was the owner of Rosentreter Excavating for 25 years. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 324 and an avid motorcycle racer. He was also a harness driver, trainer and owner at area tracks for years. He completed training at the US Naval Academy in Chicago. On May 20, 1966, he married Dolores Ann Smith in Dexter, MI and she survives. Other survivors include his mother of Belleville; one son,Steven J. (Deann) of Grass Lake; a daughter-in-law, Melinda Rosentreter of Chelsea; five loving grandchildren, Ashley, Natasha, Patrick, Adam and Mariah; a brother, Albert W. (Nancy) of Chelsea; sister, Nancy Rosentreter of Belleville; a brother-in-law, James (Candace) Smith of Chelsea; a dear friend, Steven Lucchesi of Ann Arbor; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Mark in 1993. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 11, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Chelsea, with Rev. Richard Dake officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea on Tuesday 7-9 and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Make-a-Wish Foundation or Arbor Hospice.

Dettling, John C. (Jack) Sr., Chelsea, MI

Age 81, died Sunday afternoon, February 7, 1999 at his home. He was born February 16, 1917 in Ann Arbor, the son of Leo and Amy B. (Church) Dettling. Jack was a life long resident of Washtenaw County. He retired from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department in 1986 and then was employed by the Chelsea Police Department. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was an usher for 45 years. Jack was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army in the South Pacific. He was a charter member and past Grand Knight of Dexter Council #2926 Knights of Columbus, a member of the Dexter American Legion Post #557 and was a former treasurer and member of the Chelsea Kiwanis Club. On June 9, 1951 in Chelsea, he married Mary Jane Eder and she survives. Also surviving are his five children, John (Lynda) Dettling, Amy (Bruce) Connell, all of Chelsea, Mary Beth Dettling of Grayling, David Dettling and Donald Dettling, both of Chelsea and one granddaughter, Cara Madison Connell; a brother, James Dettling of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; mother-in-law, Willie Eder of Chelsea; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Loretta) Eder of Chelsea, John (Sally) Eder of Ann Arbor; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Durham of Seattle and Katherine (James) Schneider of Colorado and a special person, John Wagner of Arizona and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Dettling. The funeral mass will be held Wednesday, February 10, at 11 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home. Also, Wednesday 10:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Chelsea. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Individualized Hospice or Washtenaw County Humane Society.
