Line, Kenneth C., Big Rapids, MI

(Formerly of Pinckney)
Age 82, died Saturday, October 23, 1999 at his residence. He was born May 10, 1917, near Pinckney, the son of Clyde and Edna (Stowe) Line, and lived in that area until moving to Big Rapids in 1994. For over 20 years, he worked as a Master Plumber at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford. He was a charter member of the Wright's Corners Church of God near Howell. In 1939, he was married to Marjorie Snively, who preceded him in death in 1996. In 1998, he was married to Eva McGuire, who survives Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon (David) Eckman of Pinckney and Ruth Ann (Walter) Steele of Big Rapids; two sons, Gary (Mary Jo) of Brighton and Paul (Jean) Kingsley of Big Rapids; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Shirley) of Pinckney; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30 at the Crossroads Church of God (formerly Wright's Corners Church of God) , located at Pinckney and Coon Lake Roads. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

Grubb, M. Arleen, Grand Rapids, MI

Age 82, passed away October 23, 1999 at Heather Hills Care Center. She was born on April 29, 1917 in Hart, MI to Guy and Winnie (Robinson) Billings.Survivors include her son, John P. (Carol) Grubb; grandsons, Andrew B. and Robert P. Grubb, all of Ann Arbor; her cousin, Betty Perryman (Mrs. Howell) of West Los Angles, CA; nieces and nephews. Her husband, John B. and her daughter, Laurel W., preceded her in death. Memberships included the Women's City Club, the Park Congregational Church, former president of the Press Club of Grand Rapids and a former employee of WOTV. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 29 at 11 a.m. at the Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, with Dr. Philip Johnson of Park Congregational Church officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Park Congregational Church, 10 East Park Place N.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49503 or a charity of your choice will be appreciated.

Sutfin (Aaron) , Leona G., Port Orange, FL

(Formerly of Ann Arbor, MI)
Age 89, died on October 23, 1999 in Florida. Leona was born on October 3, 1910 in Sultan, KY, the daughter of Edward and Lillian George. She is preceded in death by first husband, James Aaron and by second husband, Eltey Sutfin. Mrs. Sutfin was a long time employee of the University of Michigan. She is survived by her daughters, Freda A. Gregory and Ruth A. Campbell, both of Port Orange, FL; grandchildren, Ronald L. (Margaret) Gregory, and Carolyn A. (Brian) Adair; great-grandchildren, Matthew A. (Darlene) Adair, Aaron L. Gregory, Gregory B. Adair, Stewart J. Gregory. Services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 27 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel with visitation from11 a.m. until the time of service. The family will also receive visitors on Tuesday 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in the Bethlehem cemetery.

MacDonald, Alverta S., Dexter, MI

(Formerly of Ypsilanti)
Age 85, passed away Sunday, October 24, 1999 at home. She was born April 10, 1914 in Milan, MI, the daughter of Gideon and Della (Bell) Shafer. In June of 1930, she married William E. Towler and he preceded her in death January 24, 1954. On October 7, 1964 she married Forrest MacDonald in Dallas, TX, and he survives. Alverta was a housewife, and she loved to cook and garden. In addition to her husband Forrest, survivors include three sons, Bruce (Michele) Towler of SC, Larry (Sylvia) Towler of Ypsilanti, and David (Barbara) Towler of New Haven, MI; two daughters, Janet (Robert) Riggs and Sandra (Alex) Johnson, both of Willis; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Cora Kempf of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lucille and Ruth. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 27 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Fr. Robert T. Kerr of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Whittaker, MI, officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland cemetery. Memorials may be made to Arbor Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where visitation will be held 6-9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. The Rosary will be prayed 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mason, Stephen Codding III, Menominee, MI

Age 83. Dr. Stephen Codding Mason III died at home on Saturday, October 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Joyce W. Mason; three children; and 12 grandchildren. Friends and neighbors are welcome to visit at the Mason home at 1908 Scottwood from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27. A memorial contribution may be made to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.

Butler, Ethel C.,

passed away October 20, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born January 10, 1914 in Florence, AL to George and Erma Clemons. Mrs.Butler was preceded in death by her husband, John Butler; her son John; a daughter Geraldine; and 12 siblings. Mrs. Butler, along with her husband moved to Ypsilanti, MI 60 years ago to manage her brother's restaurant. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church for 42 years, 16 years ago she found her home in the New Jerusalem Baptist Church serving as missionary Board Member and singing in the choir. Living for the Lord was her life. She was also a Worthy Grand Matron of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Butler leaves to mourn a daughter, Lottie Little; a son, Ted (Sandra) Butler; a niece, Minnie Finley, who she adopted at an early age; a special grandson, Michael (Diane) Crittendon; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 27, 3-8pm at Lucille's Funeral Home. Family hour at Second Baptist Church 11-12, services to start at 12 Noon with the Rev. Aplin officiating. Meyers, Richard, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 51, died Monday, October 25, 1999. He was born on February 1, 1948 in Ypsilanti, the son of Leonard and Constance (Diesentroh) Meyers. Richard was a resident of Northfield Township and farmed in Washtenaw County. He was also well known for being a Master Hunter Dog Trainer. Richard was an avid supporter of the NRA. He was a member of Michigan Hunting Dog Association, Southern Michigan Weimaraner Club, and the M.U.C.C. He is survived by his brother Robert L. Meyers of Ann Arbor; his sisters, Gerry (George) Hellner of Ann Arbor and Ginny Runyon of Whitmore Lake; long time companion, Karen Mayo of Ann Arbor; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 28 at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Those wishing may make contributions to the Michigan Hunting Dog Federation.

Reynolds, Michael J., Sr., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 75, died at the University of Michigan Medical Center on October 24, 1999 following an extended illness. He was born in Chicago, IL on March 18, 1924.He acknowledged St. Mary's Training School where he graduated from high school in 1942, as providing his foundation for educational pursuit, family responsibility and pride in being part of the American Dream. Following high school, Mike joined the Navy and served in WWII as a Pharmacists' Mate. The ship's doctor called him laddie buck due to his boyish appearance, flaming red hair and striking blue eyes. While in the service he met and married Elsie N. Thomas of McCune, KS on February 12, 1944. With the completion of his service to his country in December of 1945, they became life long Michiganders.Mike enjoyed the successful completion of his Automotive Tool & Dye Making Apprenticeship in 1954. He pursued the majority of his career with the Joseph F. Lamb Co. located in Warren, MI. He retired in 1984.Mike's interest over the years included softball, fishing, snow skiing, golfing, building R-C model airplanes and being a Wolverine fan. His family and longtime friends were the joy of his life.Mike's pride rested in his family in which he instilled the value of attaining a higher education. All of his children were graduates of the University of Michigan. He is survived by his former wife, Elsie; daughter, Linda E.; son, Russell T.; daughter, Constance N. Burke and son-in-law, Dennis W. Burke; two grandsons; three granddaughters; several cousins; numerous friends and his loyal sidekick, Putter. His beloved son, Michael J. Jr. preceded him in death in August of 1994.A memorial service will be held at Forest Hill cemetery in Ann Arbor. Mike's family would appreciate anyone interested, send donations in his name to Maryville-City of Youth, 1150 N. River Rd., Des Plaines, IL, 60016 c/o Fr. Gordenier, Anna E., Dexter, MI

Age 87, died Monday, October 25, 1999 at Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born April 24, 1912 in Dexter, MI the daughter of James and Susan(O'Brien) Armstrong. Anna was united in marriage to Gerald Gordenier on March 8, 1943, he preceded her in death. She taught for 44 years in the Dexter schools. Anna was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter, the St. Joseph's 50 Plus Club, and the Webster Sunshine Club. She is survived by her daughters, Sue (Frank) Miller of Dexter, Carol (Steve) Trinkle of Dexter, and Ruth Ellen (Dale) Schaedig of Dexter; nine grandchildren, Kristin Miller, Kimberly Miller, Kathleen Doletzky, all of Dexter, Rita Messman of Manchester, Michael Trinkle, Julie Trinkle, Rebecca Schaedig, Brian Schaedig, and Jennifer Schaedig, all of Dexter; and foster son, Gerald Loader of Saline. She was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Armstrong. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 29, 1999 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter with Fr. Brendan Walsh presiding. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery. The family will receive friends at HOSMER-MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL on Thursday from 1-9 p.m. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Joseph Church or Arbor Hospice.
