Meyer, Ruth, Gregory, MI

Age 77, died November 3, 1999 at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor. Ruth was born on September 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Clarence and Bernice (Jones) Schaffer. On June 18, 1982 she married her loving husband, Marc Meyer of Gregory, he survives. Ruth worked for many years for the State of Michigan as a mental health nurse. She was also a member of the Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club, the Order of Eastern Star, the Moose Lodge and the Rush Lake Hills Golf Club. Ruth also delivered Meals on Wheels through the Pinckney Senior Center. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children; Pat Tessmer of Pinckney, Judy (Steve) Aschenbrenner of Pinckney, Cindy Justus of Gregory and Debby (Clark) Maschke of Gregory, one sister; Joyce Beauchene of Stockbridge, 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon King. A Memorial Gathering of Friends will take place on Sunday, November 7, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Livingston County Wildlife and Conservation Club, 6060 E. M-36, Hamburg. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pinckney Library. Envelopes are available at BELL-BOREKFUNERAL HOME in Hamburg.

Small, Lynwood R., Atlanta, MI

Age 64, Mr. Small passed away November 3, 1999. In-State, DAVID C. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, Belleville tonight 5-9 p.m. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home.

Dolph, Brita W., Ann Arbor, MI

passed away November 2, 1999 at the University of Michigan Hospital after a prolonged illness. She was born March 1, 1923 in Grillby, Sweden. Brita was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Dolph, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Brita will be lovingly remembered and missed by her stepson and his family, Lawrence R. Dolph and Lynn Nybel, and their children, Christine and John, all of Ann Arbor; by her beloved niece, Cecilia Grill, and her children, Eric, Linnea, and Michaela, all of Mundelein, IL; and by Brita's sister, Dagny Lundberg and family in Sweden. Her family is planning a private remembrance. Arrangements by MUEHLIG CHAPEL.

Johnson, Angel L., Belleville, MI

Angel, 28, passed away Thursday, October 28, 1999 after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 1999 at DAVID C. BROWN FUNERAL HOME, Belleville. Memorial contributions can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or Arbor Hospice would be appreciated.

Fulton, Arnold Reed, Belleville, MI

Age 79, passed away Friday, November 5, 1999 at the V.A. Medical Center under the loving care of his family after an extended illness. He was born March 20, 1920 in Fleming, Kentucky, the son of Jesse and Stella (Hampton) Fulton. Mr. Fulton was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945 where he served during WWII in the European Theatre. On March 20, 1946 he married Eileen Large in Whitesburg, Kentucky and she survives. Mr. Fulton was a member of Bethesda Bible Church in Ypsilanti. He was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors besides his wife include 3 children, Phyllis (James) Weatherly of Jerome, MI, Sue (Thomas) Martin of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Eddy (Donna) Fulton of Franklin, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Ruby (Russell) Keathley of Ypsilanti; 1 brother Jesse (Dorothy) Fulton of Blountville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, GEER-LOGAN CHAPEL with Pastor Leon Johnson of Bethesda Bible Church Officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-9 p.m.

Dick, Mildred Catherine, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 98. passed away November 1, 1999. She is survived by a brother Dr. Vernon Dick of Wellsley Hills, Mass.; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend Jean Henne of Hillside Terrace. Mildred retired from Slauson School where she was a Physical Education Teacher for many years. Private services will be held in Calumet, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Shingledecker, Wilberta "Birdi", (Formerly of Dexter)

passed away November 5, 1999, age 64, Survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles; four children Keith (Cindy), Kirk (Chris), Jeanette, (Bill) Bury, James; grandchildren Steve, Danielle, Autumn, Kyle, Bryan, Sasha, Rachel, and Robert; a brother Wallace Gray; and sister Shirley Simsac. Preceded in death by a sister Ruth Gray. Birdi was a member of the Rebecca's and Eastern Star for over 35 years. She worked at Muehlig's Dry Goods and Kresge's Department Store. For a number of years she served in child care at the Dexter United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and needlepoint, and helping out in the scouts when her children were involved. She served as a committee member, den leader, and Merit Badge Counselor for the Boys Scouts. Funeral serves will be held at the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at 2 p.m. Visitations will be held on Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dexter United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Doll, Anita Andrea,

(formerly of Ann Arbor & Dexter)
Age 81, also known as Anita Marr or Anita Schuon, died November 3, 1999 at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, CA, following a long illness. She is survived by her three sons and two daughters; Terry (Carolyn) Marr, Kevin (Connie) Marr, George (Betty) Marr; Kathy Arnold and Andrea (Robert) Lyshorn. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Anita was born in South Haven, MI and moved to Detroit as a small child, where she met and married Richard (Dick) Marr. The lived in Ubly, MI for 20 years. In their 32 years together they had four children and raised two more from Dick's previous marriage. After Dick's death in 1969, Anita was fortunate to find love again and married Jack Schuon. The has six years together before he too, died. One more time, Anita was blessed with love and married Maurice Doll. She lost him in 1983. Anita had a successful career with the Michigan Employment Security Commission (MESC). She worked as a Branch Manager of the Ann Arbor office. She was accepting of all people and was quite outspoken about the progression of civil rights in the area of hiring practices in the state. Outside of her working life she had many and varied interests. She was an accomplished painter on canvas as well as china. Included in the many things she enjoyed, were camping, swimming, bowling and sewing. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Ubly and Ann Arbor. She also worshipped with the Methodist Church in Dexter, MI, Vista United Methodist Church in Vista, CA as well as the Community United Methodist Church in Half Moon Bay, CA. An important part of her life was making and nurturing friendships. She enjoyed being surrounded by people and sharing experiences. Always the central force in the family, Anita continued to the end to love and support each son, daughter, grandchild and great-grandchild. She left us with the sense that we were strong, loved and under the constant protection of God. She let us know she was truly proud of each of us. Anita was an inspiration to her friends and family as she faced the illness that besieged her in her last years. She gave true meaning to the word survivor. Funeral Services will be held at Dexter United Methodist Church, Dexter, MI on Mon., Nov. 8, 1999 at 2 p.m. The family suggests contributions in her memory be made to the Coastside Opportunity Center, P.O. Box 1089, El Granada, CA 94018.

Eldred, William, G., Belleville, MI

Age 73, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at home. Mr. Elder retired from Ray Whitfield Ford - Taylor in 1992 after 35 years employment. He is survived by three sons; William C. Eldred of Belleville, Paul M. Eldred of Stockbridge and Jeffrey E. Eldred of Ypsilanti. Two stepsons John Corbin and William Corbin of Jackson; two Step-daughters Mrs. Greg (Gail) Ranes of Willis and Carol of Ypsilanti. Also ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in passing by his first wife Ellen M. (Vance) Elder in 1963 and Carole (Carter) Eldred in 1994 and one brother Harold Eldred. The funeral will be Monday, November 8, 1999 at 10:30 p.m. at Crane Funeral Home 36885 Goddard Rd. Romulus, MI (734-941-9200) with Pastor Robert C. Entwistle of Bethany Bible Church officiation. Interment Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI. Friends may call at the funeral Sunday 3-8 p.m. Memorials to Heart Foundation.

Selin, Marvin, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 73, died in his home in Ann Arbor on November 6. He was born on January 23, 1926 in Iron River, MI, the son of Joseph and Celia Selin. After service in the Army in WWII, he graduated from University of Michigan where he met and married Harriet Chudacoff. He owned a furniture business in the Upper Peninsula until 1964, when he returned to the University of Michigan where he received his MBA and began his second career with the U of M School of Public Health. He retired as Assistant Dean in 1994. He approached life with joy and enthusiasm. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who loved to ski, backpack, flyfish, and play golf and tennis. Family includes his wife of 49 years, Harriet (Chudacoff) Selin of Ann Arbor; his daughters, Cindy Russo of Harvard, MA, Roberta Schaefer of Annandale, VA, and Janet Dilz of Boulder, CO; a sister Deborah Freedman of Ann Arbor; a brother, David Selin of Palm Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Sarah and Daniel Russo, Gregory and Laurel Schafer, Marc and Kelsey Dilz, Matthew and Elena Russo, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leslie Selin, and his sisters Libby Silverman and Shirley Ward. Funeral Services will be at Beth Israel Synagogue on Sunday, November 7 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marvine Selin Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, 109 S. Observatory, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109. Arrangements by the Ira Kaufman Chapel 248-569-0020.

Autl, Laurie A., Ann Arbor

Age 84, passed away November 5, 1999.He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, two brothers, Max and Kenneth; and a sister Bernadine. Survived by several nieces and nephews. For several years Laurie was the the Ann Arbor table Tennis Champion. He worked for the Ann Arbor Fire Department and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge #1253. Funeral services will be held at Muehilg Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, November 9, 1999 at 1:30 p.m. Interment Bethlehem cemetery, Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Alzhiemers Association.

Dick, Mildred Catherine ., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 98. passed away November 1, 1999. She is survived by a brother Dr. Vernon Dick of Wellsley Hills, MA; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend Jean Henne of Hillside Terrace. Mildred taught physical education at Slauson School for many, many years. She was and outstanding educator, admired for her excellence in teaching a subject she loved. Private services will be held in Calumet, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.

Rasmussen, Gloria (Faye), Hamburg, MI

Age 75, died at home on November 6, 1999 following a long illness. Gloria was born on Dec. 21, 1923 in Gallipolis, OH to the late Virgil and Esta Mildred (McCall) Carter. On March 28, 1947 in Washington D.C., she married her loving husband Homer, he preceded her in death on May 6, 1999. Faye was in the United States Army and worked for many years as a Registered Nurse. She is survived by her children, Sharen (Don) Heaston of Charlotte, N.C. and Stanley (Sally) Rasmussen of Hamburg, 3 sisters Katy McCarty, Bonnie Cremeens, Janis Harrison and one brother, Teddy Carter all of OH; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Faye was also preceded in death by her grand-daughter Kimberly in 1997. A private family service has taken place. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the family, envelopes at BELL-BOREK FUNERAL HOME in Hamburg.

Gustine, Robert Dye, South Lyon, MI

(Formerly of Ann Arbor)
Age 60, passed away on November 5, 1999 at home. He was born January 8, 1939 in Ann Arbor to G. Richard and Phyllis (Dye) Gustine. He was married June 8, 1963 to Karin Allen. Survivors in addition to his wife include; two daughters, Jane (John) Ashby of Grand Rapids and Jill Gustine of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Tate Gustine and Andrew Ashby. He is also survived by two sisters Beverly Seifert of Ann Arbor and Patricia (James) Glinski of Dearborn Heights; Aunt Jane Dye of Houston TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School, attended the University of Michigan where he received a BBA in 1961, a MBA in 1962 and was a member Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Bob was a former plant manager of Chrysler's Introl Division and the Sandusky, OH Plastics Plant, retired from Johnson Controls and a co-founder of GT Products of Ann Arbor. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and past president of Barton Hills Country Club. In addition he was a founder of the Hartford, Ct. Junior Hockey League, Corporate Sponsor for Junior Achievement in Sandusky, OH Junior Golf Chairman at Barton Hills and on the Board of Directors of Bocca Raton (FL) Charities. Visitations will be on Monday November 8, 1999 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Washtenong cemetery with services following at Zion Lutheran Church November 7 at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Barry Ludwig of Zion and Pastor Bart Mueller of St. George Lutheran Church in Brighton presiding. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Livingston County or Lutheran Social Services of Michigan.
