Gray, Jane Felton, 1941 - 1999

Born to Helen Miller Gray and Ernest Dobson Gray in 1941. Raised since the age of three by the steadfast and loving arms of her dad and Luella Vanderlip Gray. Sister to Mary, Elizabeth, Robert and Martha. Mother of Padraig Felton Fahey. Mother-in-law to Jennifer Sovey Fahey. Highly prized aunt to Alizabeth Fritz, Morgan Gray McCollough, Erica and David Gray, Michael, Jess and Drew Churchward, Annie Gray Horn. Loyal cousin to Susan Gray Nordlinger. Benefactress of Two Boots, Stipey, Tuesday and Tommy. Quilter extraordinaire, conscientious social worker, and infectious giggler. Jane's life was one of rich contrasts. She was thrifty yet she was a great tipper. She relished the simple pleasures, like finding the best cup of coffee served between Petoskey and Mackinaw City, yet her quilts were complex works of art. She loved Merle Haggard yet she loved Charles Aznavour and YoYo Ma, too. She was a fierce and radical thinker yet she proudly displayed her membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She kept her lists and sorted through details yet she was a world traveler, conversant in German. She could not snap her fingers or hit the dance floor yet possessed grace in the face of adversity that is a lesson and a legacy to us all. Janie addressed life with valor, humor, inspired profanity and an unswerving devotion to her family, her cats and her friends. As her family, we have chosen four places for donations that are a reflection of her contrast, her compassion and her courage: Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, 2070 US 31 North, Petoskey, 49770 NASW Research and Education Fund, Child Welfare Practice, Attn: Floyd Lewis, 750 1st Street NE, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20002,The Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr, Ann Arbor 48103, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, C/O A.
