Age 84, died Saturday, February 11, 2000 in Columbia, KY. He was born on June 4, 1915 in Columbia, KY, the son of Silas and Nancy Caroline (Taylor) Cundiff. In 1938 he moved to Ann Arbor where he met his wife, Helen Mae Richards, whom he married in 1939. Mr. Cundiff had worked as a carpenter and was a member of Local #502. Survivors include his five sons, Richard (Margaret) Cundiff of Plymouth, MI, Ronald (Frances) Cundiff and Philip (Dana) Cundiff, both of Saline, MI, Robert (Charlotte) Cundiff of Adrian, MI, and Wesley (Claudia) Cundiff of Grass Lake, MI; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Helen Severance of Ann Arbor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Mae Cundiff in 1988; his parents, Silas and Nancy Cundiff; and two brothers, Deward Cundiff and Norman Cundiff. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Lurie Terrace, 600 West Huron, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Envelopes are available at the NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter, where the family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2000 at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at Washtenong Memorial Park.

Ebright, Noreen, Independence, MI

Age 63, passed away on February 13, 2000. Loving mother of Debra Ebright and Wilford (Michelle) Ebright, Jr.; dear grandmother of Morgan and Blake Ebright. Noreen had been a Volunteer for the Clarkston Senior Center. She retired from Ford Motor Co. NAO Bldg in Dearborn after 34 years of service. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2000 at St. Trinity Lutheran Church, 7925Sashabaw Rd., Clarkston. Family will receive friends Tuesday 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at COATS FUNERAL HOME in Waterford, MI. Memorial donations may be made to St. Trinity Lutheran Church; envelopes available at the funeral home.

Sparling, Evangeline Marie, Chelsea, MI

(Formerly of Detroit)
Age 98, passed away February 12, 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Daniel Sparling; two children, Robert Daniel and Helen Terpenning; and a grandson Daniel. She is survived by her sister, Bernice Cundy of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Robert, Peter, Timothy Sparling of Ann Arbor, Rev. Peter Terpenning of Bay City, Margaret Terpenning of Ann Arbor, Sue Gay Collins of Marblehead, MA, Julie Sparling-Youtt of San Francisco,CA; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in South Dakota and Washington. Evangeline and her husband Spud were associated for many years with Central Methodist Church in Detroit, MI. In the years following, they operated several businesses which continue to this day.Evangeline was energetic in love and loyalty to God, family, church and friends. Private interment will be in Oakland Hills cemetery in Novi. Memorial services will be held at Chelsea Retirement Community. Wahl, Dillman W., Grass Lake, MI

Age 90, died Sunday, February 13, 2000. Dillman founded Wahl Oil in 1957. He is survived by his wife Ardea; daughters, Leah Herrick and Loretta McMullin. Service 2 p.m. Wednesday at COLE FUNERAL CHAPEL,Chelsea with visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

MacArthur, Elizabeth A., Penwater, MI

(Formerly of Grosse Pointe Woods)
Age 85, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 13, 2000 at her daughter's home. She was born June 5, 1914 in Sault Marie,Ontario,Canada, the daughter of Adolph and Anne (Trist) Christian. On April 21, 1939she married Ray MacArthur and he preceded her in death on January 28, 1994. Mrs. MacArthur was a homemaker. She enjoyed activities with her family, traveling, and antiques. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn (Samuel) Vitale of Ypsilanti; one son, Ray Douglas (Claire) MacArthur of Menominee, MI; four grandchildren, Wendy (C.J.) Wysocki of Saline, Venessa (Tim) Bowden of Ypsilanti, Scott MacArthur of Ludington, MI, and Jenifer MacArthur of Traverse City, MI; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Andy and Natalie Wysocki, Skyler Bowden, Jeffery, Gemini and Scott MacArthur; sister-in-law, Joyce Christian of California ; three nieces, Melissa Christian, Janice Dean and Karen Dean; three nephews, Ranny, Terry and Verney MacArthur. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Helen Mulich; and one brother, Melvin Christian. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 16 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in White Chapel cemetery, Troy, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Rutledge, Lillian, Ann Arbor, MI

(Formerly of Dearborn)
Lillian died February 9, 2000 at the age of 92. She left fond memories of a generous, compassionate and brave woman. She donated her remains to the U of M Department of Anatomical Donations years ago, and her wishes have been honored. Her husband, Ross, died in 1963. Her family includes a daughter, Louise and a son-in-law, Bill Gregory; three grandchildren, Lynn Gregory and Paul Callam, John and Becky Gregory, Melissa Gregory and Mitchell Kaplan; her six great-grandchildren, Ben, Andrew, Amelia and Conor Callam, Dallas Adair, and Joshua Kaplan. Lillian was dedicated to securing justice for all people. For years, she supported The Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington, Montgomery, AL 36104. She was a member of Northside Presbyterian Church and she especially cherished the prayer group which met at her home each week. We will celebrate her life at the Northside Presbyterian Church, 4 p.m. Saturday, February 19

Criss, Gailen D. Sr., Ypsilanti, MI

Age 79, died Saturday, February 12, 2000 at Beyer Hospital, Ypsilanti, MI. He was born on December 4, 1920 in Kensington, OH to Clark and Jennie (Thomas) Criss. He married June C. Conroy on May 26, 1943; she survives. Gailen was a Veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving from September 28, 1942 until January 18, 1946. He was a Supervisor at Ypsilanti State Hospital for thirty-eight years until retiring in 1978. He was a member of American Legion, Milan, the Civil Conservation Corps Alumni and was an avid golfer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Gailen David (Jenny) Criss, Jr. of Milan and Michael (Ann) Criss of Howell; two grandchildren, Gregory and Amanda Criss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, February 16 at 7 p.m. at the OCHALEK-STARK FUNERAL HOME, Milan where friends may visit from 6 p.m. until the time of service.Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Clark, Louise, Ann Arbor, MI

Departed this life on February 2, 2000. She was born August 22, 1917 in Itta Bena, MS to the late Mr. and Mrs. Nelson and Alberta (Woods) Clark. Louise confessed Christ at an early age at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in MS. She was employed as a caretaker for many years. Louise leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Annie White; two brothers, Walter (Ida) Clark, and Nelson Clark. She is also survived by cousins, several nieces and nephews, and friends. She is also survived by a dear friend and last employer, Don Compton. She was preceded in death by one brother, L.C. Clark and one sister, Willie May Lee. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 16, 2000, at 10 a.m., at the Greater Faithway Church, 855 E. Clark Rd., Ypsilanti. Pastor R.L. Ford, officiating. Interment United Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Turner Funeral Home, Jackson, MI.

Palmer, Thomas H., Dexter, MI

Age 74, died peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2000 at U of M Hospital. He was born on January 1, 1926 in Ann Arbor, the son of Harold F. and Helen Louise (Cooney) Palmer. Mr. Palmer had lived in the Dexter area most of his life. He was a World War II Veteran, and a former member of the American Legion in Ann Arbor. He had been a self-employed concrete contractor in Ann Arbor for 40 years. Mr. Palmer had a special talent for designing concrete form work, and introduced the use of light-weight cellular concrete in Michigan. He married Kathleen R. Crosby on February 7, 1948 in Ann Arbor and she survives. Other survivors include five children, Kelly Thomas (Martina) Palmer of WA, William John (Sandra) Palmer of Grass Lake, Thomas Crosby Palmer of Lansing, Elizabeth Helen Palmer of Whitmore Lake, Sean Reino (Sania) Palmer of Michigan Center; four brothers, Louis of CA, Richard Dick (Donna) of Williamsburg, Michael (Linda) of TN, Edward Ned (Donna) of Dexter; two sisters, Mary Helen (Earl) Degner of Chelsea and Patricia Ann (Harold) Chambers of MO; and five grandchildren. Private burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, Dexter. Arrangements: COLE FUNERAL CHAPEL, Chelsea.

Arel, Raymond F., Lee's Summit, MO

Died unexpectedly February 1, 2000. A funeral mass was held February 5. He is survived by his wife Arline; five children; and seven grandchildren including Lisa, Gary & Max Hammer of Ann Arbor. Ray is remembered as a caring, poetic and selfless man.

McAllister, Joan Barbara Joann, Northfield Twp, MI

Age 67, died February 12, 2000 after a long illness. Joan was born October 25, 1932 in Ann Arbor, MI the daughter of Samuel Julius and Gertrude Elizabeth (Wetherholt) Jahnke. She married Robert McAllister in November, 1960 and he predeceased her in April, 1998. She is the loving mother of Timothy Charles (Jeanette) Blankenbaker, Thomas David Blankenbaker, Kathy (Carl) Busche, Barbara Ellen (Marty) Ritchie, Terry Lynn (Joseph) Shipley, Cheryl Ann (Brenda) McAllister, and Pamela Jean McAllister. Also grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of one. Beloved sister of Samuel, Charles, Gerald and Leon Jahnke. Visitation Tuesday, 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday 12-3 and 5-9 p.m. Rosary 7 p.m. Prayers 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Bell-Borek Funeral Home, 7425 M-36, Hamburg, 810-231-0200. Funeral Mass 11 a.m. Old St. Patrick Church. Burial following Old St. Patrick cemetery, Northfield Twp. Donations suggested to American Lung Association.

Lawson, Trena M. (Cooper), Columbia, Tennessee

(Formerly of Ypsilanti, MI)
Age 79, died Monday, February 14, 2000 in Columbia, Tennessee. She was born March 20, 1920, in Blue Diamond, Kentucky, the daughter of Raleigh and Haley (Napier) Pratt. On October 31, 1934, she married George Lawson in Hazard, Kentucky; he preceded her in death in 1967. She was a former member of the North Prospect Baptist Church in Ypsilanti and retired from Ford Motor Company. Survivors include: two children, Sonja (Gordon) Barham of Columbia, Tennessee and Bonnie (Phillip) Saindon of Antioch, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Keith (Jill) Hensley and Christoper Hensley of Nashville, Tennessee and Rebecca Saindon of Antioch, Tennessee; two great grandchildren, Jeremy Hensley and Rachel Hensley; three sisters, Edna Gayheart and Jopidean Foster of Louisville, Kentucky and Lena Lawson of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 17 at 10 a.m. at the JANOWIAK FUNERAL HOME, GEER-LOGAN CHAPEL with Dr. Louie Winstead, Pastor of the Lithia Height Baptist Church in Lithia Springs, Georgia officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m.

Gillingham, Weston K., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 85, died Monday, February 14, 2000 at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor. Weston was born on March 13, 1914 in Caseville, MI, the son of Walter E. and Ida Reeves Gillingham. Mr. Gillingham was the president of Werner Advertising Company in Dearborn. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Susan (James) Baker of Mainistee, MI; a son, Lance Michael (Sherry) of Tucson, AZ; a brother, William (Jeanette) of Lapeer, MI; daughter-in-law, Janet Gillingham of Long Beach, MS; sister-in-law, Catherine Beissell of Ann Arbor; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one niece and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Ken Gillingham and by his parents. A memorial mass will be held Friday, February 18, at 11 am. at St. Patrick's Church in Northfield Township. The family will receive visitors at the parish hall after mass. Contributions are suggested to Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor or to St. Patrick's Church in Northfield Township. Arrangements by: MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL.
