Foster, Gloria A., Chelsea, MI

Age 61, passed away March 3, 2000 at her home. She was born February 16, 1939 in Gaastra, MI, the daughter of Robert and Audrey (Lantz) Lee. Gloria had lived 42 years in Chelsea. She taught sign language for adults for several years. She was a volunteer at Chelsea Hospital, and also worked at Silver Maples. She was a member of the North Sharon Baptist Church for 25 years. Gloria enjoyed cooking and baking, and she had a love for animals. She was known for always thinking first of others. On November 7, 1959 she married Richard D. Foster in Chelsea, and he survives. She is also survived by their three children, Richard A. Foster of Florida, Karen (Chris) Boley of Grass Lake, Sandra (William) Travis of Marshall, MI; her mother, Audrey Lee of Vandercook Lake; a brother, Darryl (Sue) Lee of Spread Eagle, WI; and two sisters, Darlene (Mike) Farner of Vandercook Lake and Joyce (Kenneth) Johns of Hanover. She is also survived by three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; and an infant sister, Bonnie Lee. Funeral services will be Monday, March 6, 2000 at 1 p.m. at North Sharon Baptist Church, with Pastor Bobby D. Toler officiating.The family will receive friends at STAFFAN-MITCHELL FUNERAL HOME, Saturday 5-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and at the church from Noon until the time of service. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Michigan Hospice or the North Sharon Baptist Church. Arrangements by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, Chelsea.

McGowan, Dorothy M., Hamburg, MI

Age 78, died at home on March 2, 2000. Visitation Sunday March 5, 1-6 p.m. at BELL-BOREK FUNERAL HOME in Hamburg. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Whitmore Lake. Burial at Washtenong Memorial Park.

McCullough, Elmina (Redman), Inkster, MI

(Formerly of Ann Arbor)Age 63, died Friday, March 3, 2000 at Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, MI. She was on born August 30, 1936 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Reynold M. and Ethel C. (Anderson) Redman. Elmina attended schools in both Wayne and Romulus while she was growing up. Elmina was a member of the Elks and had worked for Ford Motor Company in Saline for 30 years. She was the guardian of Kai Brant of Ypsilanti; and is also survived by her sister, Marlene (Theodore) Robinson of Inkster; a brother, John Redman of Ann Arbor; aunts, Elsie Carl, Georgia Bridges, and Esther Copeland; uncles, Joseph and James Anderson; great-aunt, Ethel Marie Hardwick; great-uncle, Segastare Harding; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews, cousins; and a special friend, Joyce. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 9, at 12 Noon at Bethel A.M.E. Church on John A. Woods Drive in Ann Arbor. Interment at Fairview cemetery. Family hour Wednesday7-8 p.m. at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the American Heart Association.

Van Boven, Julie Marie, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 38, died of leukemia on Sunday, March 5, 2000 at her home in Ann Arbor. Julie was born December 26, 1961, the beloved daughter of Jo and Sam Van Boven. She is the beloved sister of Diane, Andy (Michelle) and Greg (David); the dear aunt of Emma and Zachary Van Boven, and Sean Murphy; and is survived by many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Lynda. Julie was a Bell & Howell employee for 13 years and she loved nature, photography and her computer. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 at the MUEHLIG CHAPEL. Family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or to U of M Bone Marrow Transplant Program, B1-207 Cancer Center, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-0914.

McDonald, Elizabeth A., Key Biscayne, FL

Age 84, passed away March 3, 2000 at her home. She was a past Sea Belle of the Key Biscayne Yacht Club, and was active in the American Cancer Society and the Republican party. She was a member of the Barton Hills Country Club. Beloved wife, mother and great-grandmother. Survived by husband, J. Gordon; daughter, Joan Vernon; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Pesch and John M. Eisenhour; and great-grandson, William M. Pesch. Memorial will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Key Biscayne Community Church. Family suggests donations be made to the Ann Arbor Area Foundation. Whitehead, Pastor James Henry,

Age 83, died March 1, 2000. He was born in Franklin, KS on February 26, 1917, the son of James and Lelia Whitehead. On February 21, 1981 he was married to Lois Whitehead at St. James Church of God in Christ; and she survives. Mr. Whitehead was the Pastor of New Bethel Church of God in Christ from August 1979 until his death. He was also a brick mason for about 40 years. Survivors include his wife, Lois; daughter, Shirley Morgan of Detroit; sons, Gerald (Cynthia),Calvin (Linda) and David; his step-children, William (Shelly), Ricardo and Regina Hart; 17 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and church family. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 7 at Mt. Olive Church of God in Christ, 436 Hawkins, Ypsilanti with Supt. Willie E. Sheard, Pastor. Burial in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation 2:30-5:30 Tuesday at Lucille's Funeral Home with a memorial service at Mt. Olive Church from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Andrus, Lynda Kay, Ann Arbor, MI

Lynda Andrus, a cherished wife, mother, sister and friend died peacefully on March 3, 2000 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Lynda was born on July 17, 1947 to Edward S. Cuthbert and Anna Mabel Heim Cuthbert. Growing up in Ypsilanti along side her best friend and sister, Pam Cuthbert, she graduated from Ypsilanti High School. Lynda then worked in the medical profession for many years finishing with Leland and Fleming, Gynecologists. In June 1985 Lynda came down with ovarian cancer and continued to battle this disease and its complications for 15 years. At this same time she went back to college to finish her nursing degree. She has been granted her Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Michigan University to be presented April 29, 2000. She raised two small boys into caring and loving young men. She forever cared for other people and became loved by all who knew her. She never complained and always lived for today. Her friends came to help her and left being helped themselves.Lynda never had a daughter but many came to call her their second mother. Her desire and determination to raise her sons drove her to exceed all and every expectation regarding her disease. Her children and all young people were the cause of spark in her life. Lynda contributed to all she met. The many young people she helped and loved, will carry her love for their entire lives. Her many activities in the community centered around young people. She taught Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church, with many of her students still wearing the guardian angel she gave them. In 1982 she re-started an annual block party that thrives today. She worked with school plays teaching tap dancing to the kids. She was active in PTO at Pioneer High School to help make the school better. Lynda especially treasured keeping score at the softball games for the Boys of Summer, a father and son team her husband and boys played on. She loved anything to do with her kids and their friends. She cared about all of her friends. She will be missed by her husband of 27 years, Robert (R.O.); her sons, Tyler and Carter; and her sister, Pam Cuthbert. Other family members include her mother, Anna Cuthbert of Ypsilanti; and her in-laws that were forever supporting, Roy and Jackie Andrus of Kalamazoo; and many cousins from Plymouth, IN. Lynda will be additionally missed by her countless friends and neighbors that have always been there when she needed help. There will be a memorial service in Lynda's honor at First Presbyterian Church at 1432 Washtenaw Ave on Thursday, March 9, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. There will be an open house for friends and family at Lynda's home in Ann Arbor on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lynda Andrus Oncology Fund, 1155 Rosewood, Ste B, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. 100% of contributions will be given to the nurses, aids and other service staff for the Oncology Floor and the Oncology Clinic at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Model, Carol A., Dexter, MI

(Formerly of Ann Arbor)
Age 54, passed away Monday, March 6 2000 at the Arbor Hospice Residence following a prolonged illness. She was born January 14, 1946 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie (Zeeb) Morrow. Carol was a 1964 graduate of Ann Arbor High School. On September 25, 1965, she married Frederick Model in Northfield Twp; and he survives. Carol was a lifelong member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northfield Twp. She began working for Bonisteel Law Firm and the University of Michigan. She then went into the card/office supply business. Carol was a past owner of Dexter Office Supply and the Village Card/Office Supply in Pinckney. She was a 22 year owner of Dexter Card/Gift and co-owner of Chelsea Office Supply for 16 years. She belonged to the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, Dexter Merchant Assoc, the American Business Women's Association and Dexter Daze Committee.In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Vanessa (Russ) Horning of Ann Arbor; her brother, Brian Morrow of Dexter; a favorite uncle, Kenneth (Joanne) Zeeb of Ann Arbor; stepmother, Joan (Charles) Gorsline of FL; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northfield Twp with Rev. Eugene R. Andrus officiating. Interment will follow in Leland cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arbor Hospice or American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at HOSMER-MUEHLIG FUNERAL HOME where the family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Arrangements by the STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel.

Baines, Thomas M., Ann Arbor, MI

Age 55, died March 8, 2000 at home. Tom was born November 14, 1944 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Jack and Florence (Munn) Baines. He married Kathleen E. Anderson on June 18, 1976. Tom received a BA in Business Administration from Western Michigan University, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and an MS in Industrial Engineering, also from the University of Michigan. He worked 30 years for the federal government including four years in the Peace Corps, serving mostly in Columbia and 26 years at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Transportation and Air Quality in Ann Arbor, MI. At EPA, he coordinated U.S. international activities for harmonization of automotive safety and emissions standards within the United Nations. For his international work, which he approached with true passion, Tom will be receiving the EPA gold medal, the highest award EPA can bestow upon an employee. He loved art and designed and constructed numerous contemporary welded metal sculptures which he gave away to family and friends. He was an avid boater, grew beautiful roses, loved jazz music, spoke fluent Spanish, and was a strong UM ice hockey fan. He was known as the guy who could fix anything around the house. He loved interacting with people from many cultures. He practiced Transcendental Meditation. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two sons, Andrew T. and Brian A. who love him very much. He is also survived by brothers, David Baines of Grand Haven, MI and Dough Baines of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Laurie Robertson of Muskegon, MI; numerous nephews, nieces and many friends. The funeral service will be at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL conducted by the Rev. Marcia Wooley on Sunday, March 12 at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 and also from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral at 1 p.m. on March 12. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ecology Center of Ann Arbor in his name.

Age 93, died Thursday, March 9, 2000. Graveside funeral services Friday at 11 a.m. at Harger cemetery, Howell. Arrangements by the Lamb Funeral Home, Howell.

Dykman, Edward, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 89, died Thursday, March 9, 2000 at the Heartland Health Care Center. Born March 12, 1910 in Fremont, the son of John and Fanny (Schuiteman) Dykman, he moved to Ypsilanti in 1930. On May 29, 1937, he married Laura Deake in Ypsilanti at the home of her parents, Clayton Edward and Mary Deake. They owned/operated Dykman's Handy Store from 1941until his retirement on June 26, 1970. Mr. Dykman was known throughout the community as a loving and giving business owner who was always willing to help others in need. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti and was very active with the living nativity program, and was also a member of Wescott Workers Sunday School Class. Mr. Dykman's greatness was in his faith, love of his family and his generosity of spirit. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Laura; his three children, Arthur (Barbara) Dykman of Dexter, MI, Cora Mae Corky (William) Pitts of Ypsilanti, MI, and Beth Dykman of Howell, MI; his eight grandchildren, David (Lori) Dykman of Saline, MI, Scott (Lana) Dykman of Wixom, MI, Kimberly (Edward) Michowski of Ypsilanti, Kelly (Kevin) Schultz of Redford, MI, Kristine (Brent) Patmos of Greenwood, IN, Timothy (Sandy) Larson of Ypsilanti, Todd Larson of Fowlerville, MI and Tina (Gene) Cox of Novi, MI; 12 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Alec, and Avery Dykman, Bethany and Steven Michowski, Kyle Schultz, Alyssa and Bryce Patmos, Alexander and Joseph Larson and Mitchell and Madison Cox; two sisters Marie VanOs and June (Gordon) Cavender; and his brother, Ray(Susie) Dykman. Preceding him in death were his parents; John and Fanny Dykman, and five brothers; Russell, J.C., Robert, Early and Mike Dykman. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti, 1110 W. Cross St., Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Envelopes are available at NIE FUNERAL HOME 2400 Carpenter Rd., where the family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Sunday. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2000 at the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti.

Johnson, Willie Mae, Toledo, OH

Age 64, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2000 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. She was born on October 7, 1935 in Winnsboro, SC, the daughter of Charlie and Emma (Jones) Harrison. She was a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church, the Eastern Star Chapter 2 and the Merry Mixers Social Club. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Johnson of Toledo and Phyllis Johnson of Ann Arbor; one son, Jonathan Johnson of Ypsilanti; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Fannie Taylor and Emma Mack, both of SC; four brothers, Charlie Harrison of Ypsilanti and James Harrison of Inkster, MI, Robert Harrison of Ypsilanti and Isiah Harrison of Ann Arbor; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2000 at Christ Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Steven D. Riley officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Sunday at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. The family hour will be held 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
