Mr. Charles Kobylczak, Jr.
Charles W. Kobylczak Jr., 52 of Boyne City died Friday, May 27, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born in Petoskey on December 5, 1952 to Charles Sr. and Caroline (Leazier) Kobylczak. He was affectionately nicknamed “Gentle Ben”, and he enjoyed his collection of various bears. He loved motorcycles and motorcycling riding. Ben enjoyed playing pool and darts, and he was involved with his family in a dart league. He also enjoyed deer hunting. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Father John McCracken officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10 AM. Burial will take place at St. Augustine’s Catholic cemetery in Boyne Falls. Mr. Kobylczak is survived by his daughter, Mary Kobylczak of Flint; his mother, Caroline Kobylczak of Elmira; sisters, Laurie (Richard) Cook of Elmira and Carolyn Amman of Elmira; brother, Phillip (Vicki) Kobylczak of North Branch; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Michael Kowalsky
Michael James Kowalsky, 36 of Gaylord died Thursday, April 28, 2005. He was born in Alpena on August 11, 1968 to Roger and Gloria (Durance) Kowalsky. He was a 1986 graduate of Gaylord High School and went on to receive a degree from Kirtland Community College. Mike had worked at H&H Tube in Vanderbilt, and since 2001 at Lexamar Corp. in Boyne City where he met his future wife, Barbara F. Everett. They were married on September 20, 2003. They had lived in East Jordan until their recent move to Gaylord. Mike loved his family and was a wonderful husband, son, father and brother. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. He also had an unwavering loyalty to Ford cars and Polaris snowmobiles. Mike is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Kourtney and Michael of Portland, MI and Kaleb of Gaylord; two step-children, Nicole and Maxwell Richards of East Jordan; his parents, Roger and Gloria Kowalsky of Gaylord; sister, Gloria Ann “Annie” (Tony) Olson of Vanderbilt; brother, Allen (Rachel) Kowalsky of Gaylord; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale and Cathy Everett of East Jordan; brother-in-law, Robert (Regina) Everett of East Jordan; sisters-in-law, Wilma (Jayson) Moblo of East Jordan and Trina Bates of Petoskey; and twin nephews, Brandon and Bradley Kowalsky. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, May 2, 2005 at 11 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Reverend James Mathis, officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-7 PM and on Monday from 10 AM until the time of services. Mrs. Pauline J. Liput
Pauline J. Liput, 80 of Gaylord died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mrs. Liput was born in Detroit on February 9, 1925. She and her husband were “snowbirds to the area for many years. Mrs. Liput moved permanently to Gaylord 7 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and had been involved with RSVP. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, June 27, 2005 at 10 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Mrs. Liput is survived by two daughters, Sandra Liput of Macomb and Linda Rosser of Gaylord; two grandchildren, Christopher and Caroline; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Logan; two sisters and three brothers. Her husband, Henry preceded her in death in 1998. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM and at the church on Monday beginning at 9:30 AM. Rose Matusik
Rose Frances Matusik, 86, of Gaylord died Thursday, August 04, 2005. She was born April 2, 1919 in Gaylord to Frank and Martha (Kaczmerak) Matusik. Rose worked over 30 years for General Motors in the Cadillac and Hydramatic Divisions. she had also worked at Nash Kalvinator in Detroit. After retiring, she returned to Gaylord in 1972. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Altar Rosary Society. Rose is survived by one brother, Louis (Dorothy) Matusik of Gaylord, many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law Mary Matusik of Flint and Lila Matusik of Detroit. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marian Saddler and brothers John, Alex, Jacob and Joseph Matusik. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2005 from St. Mary Cathedral with Rev. John McCracken officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Nelson Funeral Home, with the Altar Rosary Society Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Friday and Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Cathedral.

Mrs. Darlene Moore
Darlene C. Moore, 32 of Boyne City died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petosky. Darlene was born August 14, 1972 in Gaylord the daughter of Michael R. and Susan A. (Metz) Moore. She enjoyed music, especially playing piano and guitar. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed arts and crafts. Surviving are her children, Dean, Brittney, Joshua and Christen Youngs; her parents, Michael and Susan Moore of Johannesburg; sisters, Theresa Moore of Shelby Twp. and Noreen Wixon of Gaylord; her brother, Jesse (Lisa) Moore of Gaylord; her grandmothers, Doris Pauley of Beverly Hills, MI and Agnes Moore of Gaylord. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 3:00pm from the Nelson Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 2:00 pm. Ms. Amanda Nicole Morsches
Amanda Nicole Morsches, 17 of Gaylord died Wednesday, June 22, 2005 due to injuries sustained in an auto accident. Amanda was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia on November 25, 1987. She was raised in Gaylord and had recently completed her junior year at Gaylord High School. She especially enjoyed her sign language and science classes and was an active member of the National Honor Society. She was an enthusiastic reader and her love of reading continued with her job at the Otsego County Library. She was a devoted Red Wings fan, a lover of cats and also enjoyed cross-stitching and spending time at the beach. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 1 PM from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place at Hayes Township cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Friday from 2-8 PM and at the cathedral on Saturday beginning at 12 Noon. Amanda is survived by her parents, Scott and Carol Morsches of Gaylord; her brother, Mark; grandparents, Joseph and Bernice Zolnierek of Alpena; several aunts and uncles including, David (Monica) Zolnierek, Helen (Ray) Suszek, Paul (Sue) Zolnierek all of Alpena, Mark (April) Zolnierek of Florida, Edward (Brenda) Morsches of Romeo, and Michael “Todd” Morsches of Grand Rapids. Several cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Daniel and Judith Morsches, and her cousin Adam Zolnierek. Mrs. Martha Nowak
Mrs. Martha C. Nowak, 85 of Gaylord died Sunday, May 1, 2005. Martha was born in Boyne Falls on September 14, 1919, the daughter of John & Helen (Dzwik) Skop. She was raised in Boyne Falls and later moved to Gaylord where she raised her family. Life as a farmer’s wife kept her busy but she still found time to make rosaries for family and friends and quilts for her children. She also enjoyed wild berry picking but her real passion in life was gardening. She was a member of Holy Redeemer parish in Vanderbilt and the Daughters of Isabella. She was preceded in death by her first husband Joe Malak in 1942 and her second husband John Nowak in 1985. She is survived by her children, Rita (William) VanGorder of Grand Rapids, Joseph (Cecelia) of Lewiston, Joann (Nelson) Schriber of Beaverton, Sister Monica “Trudy” Nowak of Missouri, Lawrence (Sue) of Gaylord, Ronald (Sally) of Gaylord, Robert (Sandy) of Gaylord, Christine (Jeff) DeHann of Rockford; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Hock of Florida, Ann Skop of Gaylord, Felicia Francis of Detroit, Sophie Francis of Gaylord and Angie Pylar of Ohio; and one brother, Ray Skop of Boyne City. Two sisters, Theresa Miller and Virginia Bacholszky preceded her in death. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2005 4, 2005 at 11 a.m. from Holy Redeemer Church in Vanderbilt, Rev. John McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. St. Mary Daughters of Isabella will recite the rosary Tuesday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Nowak may be made to the Otsego County Food Pantry or to any local organization that helps feed the poor, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mrs. Vicki Lynn Palmer
Vicki Lynn Palmer, age 56 of Wolverine passed away Saturday, June 18, 2005. She was born February 24, 1949 in Petoskey. Vicki was a school bus driver for Wolverine Community Schools for over ten years. She was also part owner of the Whistle Stop Diner in Wolverine. She liked her work and enjoyed crocheting and fishing. Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lenore Babcock. She is survived by her children, Ahren (Amy) Palmer of Wolverine, Shelly Palmer of Indian River, Brian Palmer of Wolverine, Raymond Palmer of Wolverine; grandchildren, Brady, Aleah, Hope, Rowen, Guhner; brothers and sisters, Kaye (Don) Marrow of Indian River, Doug (Kay) Babcock of Indian River, Greg Babcock of Wolverine; and her close friend, Dennis Croft. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at 11 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Pastor Steve Evoy, officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Lake cemetery in Wolverine. Mr. Daniel Pilarski
Daniel S. Pilarski, 59 of Vanderbilt died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at his home. He was born in Garden City on April 22, 1946. He lived in Iron Mountain for a number of years before moving to Alpena. He had been living in the Gaylord area since the late 1970’s. He served in the United States Navy and later worked for Georgia Pacific in Gaylord for approximately 15 years, retiring in 1989 due to disability. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 1 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Elders merle Joles and Matt Kinsinger officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Hill cemetery in Vanderbilt. Mr. Pilarski is survived by his wife, Hazel (Dunham); his children, Daniel (Raeann) Pilarski of Rockford, Debra (Gary) Shampo of Black River, Douglas (Joyce) Pilarski of Gaylord, Sherry (John) Timmer of Clarksville, Teri (Rex) Gierke of Gaylord, Stacy (Kent) Hilley of Gaylord, Jodi Harding of Vanderbilt; 24 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Greg (Sue) Pilarski of Alpena; and sister-in-law, Sue Pilarski of Marlette. He was preceded in death by his parents Sylvester and Rosalie (Ellsworth) Pilarski and his brother Gary Pilarski. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 1-8 PM and on Friday from 12 Noon until the time of services. Mr. James Louis Poirier, Sr.
Mr. James Louis Poirier, Sr., age 73 of Gaylord died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mr. Poirier was born in Bay City on August 24, 1931 the son of Louis & Corinne (Metevia) Poirier. He was raised in Essexville and moved to the Gaylord area in 1962. Mr. Poirier had worked for Wilson Dairy in Gaylord for 13 years, Dannon Yogurt in Gaylord and the Upper Peninsula, and later Royal Linen for a brief time. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish. He enjoyed bowling, baseball and fishing and loved tending to his flowers gardens. FUNERQAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 11 AM from St. Mary cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 PM and on Thursday at the church beginning at 10 AM. Mr. Poirier was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, his daughter Linda Poirier and his granddaughter Margaret “Peggy” Poirier. He is survived by his children, Gerald “Red” (Eva) Watkins of Gaylord, Glenn (Linda) Watkins of Gaylord, James Jr. (Margo) Poirier of Concord, CA, Thomas (Dottie) Poirier of Gaylord, Becky (Pat) Cobb of Gaylord; 20 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Rosie LaFramboise of Rose City, and Margie Kendall of Bay City. Mrs. Genevieve E. "Jenny" Price
Genevieve E. "Jenny" Price, age 90, of Gaylord, died Saturday, August 6, 2005 at McReynolds Hall. She was born November 18, 1914 in Sioux City, IA the daughter of Fred L. and Nina E. (Swart) Burch. Since moving to Gaylord, Jenny was very active with activities at Alten Zimmer, including helping in the lunchroom and with bingo. She was also a dedicated participant in local annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walks. Jenny was a volunteer with RSVP and enjoyed playing in the OCCOA Kitchen Band. Surviving is her daughter, G. Sharon Dexter of Gaylord; grandchildren Kathy Sitkiewicz of Cadillac and Gregg Dexter of Gaylord; and great grandchildren Lee Alexander and Brandon Scott Dexter. Jenny was preceded in death by sisters Delpha Seal and Darlene Zachte, and a great granddaughter, Sarah Lynn Sitkiewicz. No services or visitation are planned. Mrs. Adeline Russ
Adeline M. “Addie” Russ, age 67 of Gaylord died Monday, June 27, 205 at her daughter’s home in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born in Grayling on February 9, 1938, the daughter of Andrew and Wanda Nowak. She was raised in Vanderbilt and was a 1956 graduate of Vanderbilt High School. Addie worked as a waitress at the former Chalet Restaurant in Gaylord for 24 years and later worked as a deli clerk at Glen’s Market for 16 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and enjoyed sewing and entertaining with friends. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 11 AM from Holy Redeemer Church in Vanderbilt, Father John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. On June 6, 1959 in Gaylord she married Russell “Dwain” Russ, who survives. She is also survived by her daughters, Monica (Jim) Murphy of Maryland, Colleen (Bruce) Burton of Sault Ste. Marie; four grandchildren, Andrea, Jordan, Kyle and Kaylin Burton. She was preceded in death by her son Donald Paul Russ in 1963. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. and at the church in Vanderbilt on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will recite the rosary at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mrs. Marian C. Saddler
Marian C. Saddler, 77 of Gaylord died Friday, June 24, 2005 at Tendercare. Marian was born May 17, 1928 in Gaylord. On January 20, 1951 in Flint she married Elmer Saddler. He preceded her in death in 1988. Mrs. Saddler was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and St. Mary Altar Rosary Society. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Chris) Martin of Gaylord; her son, John Saddler of Gaylord; three grandchildren, Michael, Bradley, and Sarah; one brother, Louis (Dorothy) Matusik of Gaylord; one sister, Rose Matusik of Gaylord; sisters-in-law, Mary Matusik, Lila Matusik, Ilah Dowker and Betty (Gordon) Brown; many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Martha Matusik, and her brothers Jacob, Joseph, Alex and John. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 11 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Father John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday from 1-8 PM and on Wednesday (at the funeral home) from 9 AM until prayers at 10:30 AM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will recite the rosary Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for various charities including St. Mary Cathedral, the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Brandon Michael Sanders
Brandon Michael Sanders, 52 of Vanderbilt died Friday, June 3, 2005 at home. He was born November 15, 1952 in Highland Park, MI the son of Willard and Sylvia (Nicoara) Sanders. He had been an Otsego County resident since 1960. Music was Mike’s life. He had played base guitar professionally in the area for many years, including the time he spent playing with the Brotherhood Band and the Jack Daniels Band. Survivors include, his mother, Sylvia Sanders; former wives, Susan Goodenough and Kimberly Sanders; step-children, Rochelle Kerry, Amanda Green, Tegan Marks, Christopher Robinson and Tara Robinson; step-grandchildren, Larissa Kerry, Hilarie Ormsbee, Cole Green, Levi Green, Quentin Green, and Raina Brink. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18th at 1:00 pm at his home. Arrangements are by the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mrs. Patricia A. Sanders
Patricia A. Sanders, age 73 of Gaylord died Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at her home. Mrs. Sanders was born in Charlevoix County on September 25, 1931 the daughter of Bruff & Jessie Kelts, and the youngest of 8 children. On March 18, 1950 at the age of 18 she married Stanley Sanders and the couple then moved to Gaylord. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping and fishing with her husband, and also knitting various items which she gave away as gifts. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Reverend John Naile officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Hayes Township cemetery. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband Stanley in 1999, (whom she knew for 52 years), four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her children, Ruth (Ken) Wilks of Charlevoix, Mark (Cindy) Sanders of Gaylord, Karen Sanders of Gaylord, Kelly Anderson of Gaylord, Connie (Andy) Lynch of Gaylord; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., American Diabetes Assoc., or the Breath of Life Ministries through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.
