HATCH, Wesley L.

- Of Swartz Creek, age 78, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be held at 11AM Monday, June 7, 1999 at Peace Lutheran Church, 2051 West Maple Avenue in Flint, Pastor James G. Wilber officiating. Burial in Evergreen cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Federation for the Blind or the American Heart Association. Visitation 5-9PM Friday and 1-4 and 6-9PM Saturday and Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mr. Hatch will be at the church from 10AM until the time of the service on Monday. He was born in Whigville, Michigan on March 26, 1921, the son of Asa and Eva Hatch. He married Helen Phenix on May 24, 1958. He was a former member of the Early Ford V-8 Club. In 1972, he won a national championship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for restoring a "Model A". He loved his motorcycles and played the banjo, guitar and mandalin. Mr. Hatch was employed by General Motors Fisher Body #1 in Skilled Trades for 32 years, retiring in 1976. Surviving are his wife, Helen; daughter, Mary and husband Dan DeMers of Poulsbo, Washington; daughter-in-law, Sonja and husband John Maloney of Hale; 5 grandsons, Joseph and wife Sheila, David and wife Shawn, Donald and wife Michelle, Wesley and wife Shelley and Gregory; 6 great- grandchildren; brother, Ken and wife Betty Hatch of Flint; several nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his son, David, in 1981.

HATCHETT, Mrs. Annie M. Ervin

- Age 55, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 29, 1999 at her residence. Family hour 12Noon Friday, June 4, 1999 from the St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1525 S. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 1PM. Rev. Ira H. Jenkins officiating. Interment River Rest cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12Noon Friday. Mrs. Hatchett now lies in state in the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed after 12Noon today. Mrs. Annie M. Ervin Hatchett was born March 20, 1944 in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late James and Clara (Anderson) McGlothin. She joined church at an early age under the leadership of the late Pastor B.T. McSwine, of the Union Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Hatchett later relocated to Flint, MI, where she united with the Hickory Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Willie Riggs, where she served on the Usher Board. She united with the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Walter A. Holbrook, where she served as President of the Usher Board, and sang with the Senior Choir. Mrs. Hatchett later united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Pastor Ira H. Jenkins, Sr., where served as a member of the choir, the Mission, a Deaconess, and President of the Usher Board, and served faithful until her health failed. She leaves to cherish her memory: a wonderful husband, Oscar Hatchett; 3 daughters, Frankie Ervin, Carolyn (David) Coulter, and Barbara (Kurt) Harris, all of Flint; 11 grandchildren, Monek, Lashonda, Patrick, Justin, Tempia, Charles, Larelle, James, Terry, Terrance, and Kendall; 2 great grandchildren, Alanna and Janaya; 4 sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Amy (Jimmy) Coleman of Greenwood, MS, Pollie (Ben) Outland, and Bernice (Joseph) Thompson, both of Flint; 3 brothers, James (Nettie) McGlothin, Jr. of Flint, Claude (Isabella), and Abe (Katherine) McGlothin, both of Greenwood, MS; 2 aunts, Ester Lynn Maney of St. Louis, MO, and Mattie Austin of Greenwood, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including the St. John Baptist Church family.

HERMAN, Elvie Marie

- Age 82, of San Diego, California, formerly of Flint, died May 21, 1999 in CA. She was born August 4, 1916 in Grand Marais, Michigan. She married Edward Herman in Newberry, Michigan on September 18, 1937 and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Herman was a nurse aide at Genesee Memorial Hospital for many years, and she was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Carman Ainsworth Senior Citizens. She is survived by: two daughters, Carolyn Drake Cruickshank and Sharon Herman Rooney, both of San Diego; a sister and a brother, both in Grand Marais, Michigan; she also has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3PM Saturday, June 5, 1999 at Reigle Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Pastor Walter J. Oelhafen, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Memorial cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 1PM Saturday to the service time at 3PM. Family asks that memorial contributions be given to National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 N. W. 9th Ave/Bob Hope Rd., Miami, FL 33136 (in memory of Elvie Herman) or to Grace Lutheran Church on Corunna Rd., Flint, MI.

HOGLE, Max H.

- Of Flint, age 88, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, June 7, 1999 at Heritage Baptist Church, Pastor Carl Petty officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-9PM Saturday and Sunday at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Baptist Church. Mr. Hogle was born in Mundy Twp., June 19, 1910, the son of John D. and Wilda (Rice) Hogle. He married Alvira Fettes in Flint June 6, 1931. She preceded him in death September 19, 1988. Mr. Hogle was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. He had worked in quality control for Buick Motor Division for 38.4 years, retiring in 1974. Surviving are: 2 sons, Richard W. Hogle of Ocala, FL, J. Michael and wife Sharlee Hogle of Flushing; daughter, Delores J. and husband Benjamin Morris of Bolivar, MO; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Georgia Wood of Flint, Jacqueline-- -------. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Hogle and a daughter, Betty Ann.

JACKSON, Mrs. Adlean B.

- Age 56, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 30, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, June 5, 1999 from the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Rev. James Searcy officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G- 9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Saturday. Mrs. Jackson now lies in state in the Chapel of the funeral home and may be viewed after 12Noon today. Mrs. Adlean B. Jackson was born April 8, 1943 in Vicksburg, Mississippi, the daughter of Virginia Jones, Bernard Horne, and the stepdaughter of Juanita Horne, and had been a resident of Flint since 1972. In 1972, she married Cornelius Jackson, and was devoted for 17 years, and into that union 6 children were born. She was a member of Joy Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the Gospel Choir. Mrs. Jackson also was a homemaker. She leaves to cherish sweet memory; loving and devoted husband, Cornelius Jackson; 5 daughters, Susan Floyd, Kimberly Leverette, Anita, Kimblee and Katrina Jackson; son, Sherrod Jackson, all of Flint; stepdaughter, Clara Mae Jackson of San Pedro, CA; 3 stepsons, Cornelius Jr. and Lee Willie Jackson, both of Pine Bluff, AR, and Andre Jackson of Flint; 18 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; stepmother, Juanita Horne; 2 sisters, Janice and JoAnne Horne; 2 brothers, J.B. (Luella) and Jimmie Horne, all of Monterey, CA; uncle, Charles (Elizabeth) Horne; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Jackson; mother-in-law, Ellen Thomas; 2 sisters-in-law, Earlee and Earline Jackson, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and dear friends including special friend, Dorothy Hill. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Jones; 2 brothers, Joseph and Ben Horne; grandmother, Merenda Horne; aunt, Adlean Horne.

LeVASSEUR, Dolores A.

- Of Mundy Township, age 63, died Sunday, May 30, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 12 Noon today.

NICKEL, Roy V.

- Of Flushing, age 83, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at Genesys Hospice Care Center, Goodrich. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, June 5, 1999 at Rossell Funeral Home, Rev. Martin Ankrum will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9PM Thursday, 12-4 and 6-9PM Friday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Genesys Hospice.

OLLER, Theresa Ann (Griswold)

- Age 42, of Flint, died Thursday, May 27, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday. Theresa was born July 10, 1956, the daughter of Gene and Rose (Davis) Oller. She had resided in Flint her entire life. Surviving are: father, Gene Oller of Flint; 3 sisters, Rebecca Decker of Flint, Barbara Fridline of Flushing, Karen Ross of Flint; very much loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, 2 brothers, Reginald and Darrell Oller.

PERREAULT, David Alan

- Age 46, was called by our Lord on Friday, May 21, 1999 with family at his side. David succumbed to a tumor at the base of his brain. He attended Grand Blanc High School. He is survived by: his mother, Jacqueline Perreault of Alpine, CA; father, William Perreault of St. David, AZ; older sister, Diane Sherman LPN in Alpine, CA; younger sister, Debbie Ferreira, teacher in Tucson, AZ; younger brother, Doug Perreault, Business Owner in St. David, AZ; niece and nephew, Billy and Malia Ferreira of Tucson, AZ; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. David had a passion and joy of life, played a great guitar, and will be greatly missed by all.

BUTLER, Donny D.

- Of Flint, age 43, died Monday, May 31, 1999 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 10:30AM Friday, June 4, 1999 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Tom Settlemyre officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation 11AM-9PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Butler was born in Boaz, Alabama on May 31, 1956 and was a resident of Flint all of his life. He was a member of UAW Local #598. He was employed by GM Truck and Bus for 23 years. Surviving are his son, Curtis Morton of Flint; mother, Betty and husband Ben C. Young of Flint; 3 sisters, Ronda and husband Thomas Black of Flint, Judy and husband Charles Haller of Birch Run and Alecia Butler of Flint; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, Talmadge Butler, in 1996 and cousin, Kyle Butler, in 1996. You will be sadly missed by all of your family and friends.

RETKA, Robert A., Sr.

- Age 65, of Fenton, died Monday, May 31, 1999 at Genesys Health Park. Funeral mass will be celebrated 12 Noon Friday, June 4, 1999 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, Rev. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, Gaines, where a military service will be held under the auspices of V.F.W. Curtis-Wolverton Post #3243. Visitation will be held 2-5 and 7-9 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton.

RICE, Ursulien E.

- Of Clio, age 94, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30AM Saturday, June 5, 1999 at the Whipple-O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, Rev. Erwin Kostizen officiating with burial in Sunset Hills cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Social Services. Ursulien was born December 10, 1904 in Laurium, Michigan, the daughter of John and Ursula (Koch) Maurin. She had resided in the Flint and Frankenmuth area most of her life. Ursulien married Colin Rice in 1926 in Flint. He preceded her in death in 1938. She was employed with G.M. for 35 years before retiring and was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Flint and was a current member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Clio. She was also a member of the Flint Yard and Garden Club and the Kerrs Travel Club. Surviving are: daughters, Evelyn M. Braham of Clio and Dorothy and husband Russell Reister of Chelsea, MI; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great- great-grandchild; 1 niece and sister, Margaret Taylor of St. Louis, MI.

RUFF, Helen Marie

- Of Flint, age 100, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at her residence. Funeral Mass will be held 10AM Saturday, June 5, 1999 at St. Michael Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. William Wegher officiating. Burial at New Calvary Catholic cemetery. A parish scripture service will be held 7PM Friday from the Floral Chapel of the Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9PM Thursday and 12-4 and 6-9PM Friday. Contributions may be made to St. Michael Church Memorial Fund. Marie was born in Standish, MI August 14, 1898 to Charles and Agnes Coggins. She lived in the Flint area most of her life. She married Alexander Ruff on August 7, 1923 and together they celebrated over 23 years of marriage. Marie was a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church, their church altar society, a minister of communion and was a member of the Order of Lay Carmelites. Mrs. Ruff taught school for the Flint Board of Education spanning her teaching career for many years. Marie enjoyed going to church activities and working on the Flint Journal crossword puzzles. She is survived by: 1 daughter, Mrs. Margaret A. Cook of Flint; 2 sons, Donald C. Ruff and wife Ann of Phoenix, AZ, Patrick J. Ruff and wife Gail of Clio; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander L. Ruff on Ocotber 16, 1946.
