HOPKINS, Thelma J. (Howlett) Of Davison and Venice, Florida,

age 78, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at her residence in Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 5, 1999 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6100 Richfield Road. Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society. Mrs. Hopkins was born in Cash, Arkansas on March 28, 1921, the daughter of George and Nellie (Dorris) Howlett. She lived in Davison, Lexington-Croswell, and Venice, Fl. Thelma married LeRoy on February 19, 1942 in Davison, MI. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Croswell, MI and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Venice, Fl. Surviving are: husband, LeRoy; daughter, Brenda (Ron) Bricker of Ithica, New York; son, Michael (Myrna) Hopkins of Grand Haven, MI; daughter, Cindy (Donn) Ellis of Linden; daughter, Liz (John) Polasek of Vicksburg, MI; daughter, Jayne and (Randy) Plonka MD. of St. Clair, MI; many wonderful grandchildren; brothers, Jay (Carol) Howlett of Fort Myers, Fl, Berrel Howlett of Burton, Floyd (Ann) Howlett of Culver City, CA; sister, Erlene (Siefried) Grassl of Burton.

NELSON, Mr. Karl Everett

- Age 39, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 28, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, June 4, 1999 from the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Bro. Darrell Holt officiating. Interment River Rest cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Nelson now lies in state in the Chapel of the funeral home and may be viewed after 12Noon today. Mr. Karl Everett Nelson was born August 27, 1959 in Atlanta, Texas, the son of Mr. Maurice Golson and Mrs. Peggy (Nelson) McDaniel. He attended Northwestern High School and Mott Community College. He leaves to cherish his sweet memory; mother, Peggy McDaniel; stepfather, Frankie McDaniel; brother, Garry McDaniel; 2 aunts, Barbara Nelson, all of Flint, and Irene (Allen) Gipson of Shreveport, LA; 3 uncles, Jimmy (Zepha) and Patrick (Para) Nelson, both of Flint, and Ralph (Mary) Nelson of Detroit, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends James Wells and Sherman Robinson, both of Flint. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Katie Nelson; aunt, Amalia Abraham.

WHITMORE, Mrs. Shirley M.

- Age 57, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999 at Genesys Regional Medical Center-Health Park. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, June 5, 1999 from the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Dr. A.J. Pointer officiating. Interment Sunset Hills cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Mrs. Whitmore will lie in state in the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed after 12Noon Friday. Mrs. Shirley M. Whitmore was born May 14, 1942 in Connnerville, Arkansas, moving to Flint at 11 months old with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woody and Girlie (Johnson) Etherly, Sr. She was a graduate of Northern High School "Class of 1960". Mrs. Whitmore retired after 28 years of service from AC Delphi, a division of General Motors Corporation, and was member of UAW Local #651. She was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, where she served on the Usher Board. Shirley loved to travel, and had visited most of the states in the United States. Mrs. Whitmore was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband of 38 years, Ollie Whitmore; 2 daughters, Sheri (Tim) Kirkland and Kimberly Whitmore, all of Flint; son, Ollie (Coretta) Whitmore, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; brother, Rev. Woody Etherly, Jr.; sister, Eleanor Smith-Etherly; adopted brother, Gilbert Block, all of Flint; adopted sister, Mae (Joe) Williams of Arkansas; 3 grandchildren, LaShanda Kirkland of Flint, Chirstopher and Olivia Whitmore of Indianapolis, IN; 5 aunts, Venola (Matt) Tolbert, Mary Johnson, both of Flint, Veva (Chris) Ridgell of Detroit, MI, Sammie Williams of Arkansas, and Trudy Jimmerson of California; 4 uncles, Raymond (Ethel) and Vennie Johnson, all of Flint, Alonzo Johnson of Arkansas, Dan (Cozetta) Etherly of New Mexico; 6 sister-in-law, Gladys Whitmore of New Jersey, Emma (Charles) Lindsey and Rosie (Levator) Booth, both of Chicago, IL, Letoria Whitmore of California, Mattie Bryant of Detroit, MI, and Hazel Hammond of Louisiana; brother-in-law, Charlie (Lue Ella) Whitmore of Arkansas, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Jermaine Tipton, Mayme Cleveland, Cleo Lewis, and Eleanora Edmonds. Mrs. Whitmore was preceded in death by her father, Woody Etherly, Sr.; mother, Girlie Mae Etherly. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Genesys Regional Medical Center- Health Park ICU staff.

WOODWARD, Samuel N.

- Age 78, died Monday, May 31, 1999 in Pine Bluff, AR. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, 1999 at 11AM from Henson Mortuary Chapel, 3804 W. 14th, Pine Bluff, AR. He leaves to cherish sweet memories: wife, Elnora; 3 daughters, Regina Baker, Althea Davis, Marqueda; 1 son, Richard; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 step-sons; 1 step-daughter; 1 brother, Charlie Frank; 2 sisters, Mattie Little, Virginia Early. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister; and grandson, Kevelin.

COOK, Kathryn D.

- Of Flint, age 92, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at IHS of Michigan at Riverbend. Funeral service will be held at 10AM Friday, June 4, 1999 at Riverdale Baptist Church, 5151 Calkins Road in Flint, Pastor Steve Anderson officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Those desiring may make contributions to Riverdale Baptist Church. Visitation 5-9PM Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Cook was born in Hope, Michigan on February 9, 1907. She married James B. Cook on September 12, 1931 in Mt. Morris. She was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Missonary Group. She taught Sunday School for over 30 years, sang in the choir and taught "Good News" Clubs. Surviving are her children, James (Richard) and wife Doris Cook of Harrison, Hank and wife Arlene Cook of Fenton, Martha and husband Steve Anderson of Davison; 7 grandchildren; 6 great- grandchildren; sister, Bernita Spaulding of Florida; brother, John and wife Nellie Henry of Midland; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Cook; and sisters, Sarah Phetteplace and Audrey Ackerman.

COPELAND, Mr. Willie J. "Bray"

- Age 61, died Monday, May 31, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:30AM Friday, June 4, 1999 from the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart St., with funeral service commencing immediately at 11AM. Rev. Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment River Rest cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Friday. Mr. Copeland now lies in state in the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed after 12Noon today. Mr. Willie J. "Bray" Copeland was born December 16, 1937 in Warmsprings, Georgia, the son of Birdie Lee Bray, and had been a lifelong resident of Flint. He retired from Fisher Body Grand Blanc, a division of General Motors Corporation, and was a member of UAW Local #1292. Mr. Copeland was former member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Birdie Lee Bray; sister, Sallie McCoy; niece, Linda (Jeffrey) Jones, all of Flint; 4 nephews, Dr. Kenneth (Yvette) Bray of Naperville, IL, D.C. (Marlo) McCoy of Oak Park, MI, Wan McCoy and Jerome Copeland, both of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by his brother, James Copeland; grandmother, Sallie K. Ashford. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family.

FOUST, Joan Carole

- Age 60, of Fenton, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital, Ann Arbor. Funeral services will be 11AM Friday, June 4, 1999 at the King of Glory Lutheran Church (the corner of River/Beecher Rds.), Flushing, Pastor Elaine M. Gomulka officiating. Visitation will be held at the Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton from 12-4 and 6-9PM Thursday. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Leukemia Society of America.

FRITZLER, Jacob "Jack"

- Of Flint, age 90, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at Heartland Health Care Center- Fostrian in Flushing. Funeral service will be held at 1PM Friday, June 4, 1999 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the charity of their choice. Visitation 3-8PM Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Fritzler was born in Windsor, Colorado on July 31, 1908, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Blum) Fritzler. He married Marie E. Kruse on May 16, 1931 in Flint. He was a member of UAW Local 599, employed by Buick Motor Division Factory 36 for 43 years. He was an avid fisherman, who was always willing to share his fishing stories. Surviving are his daughter, Betty J. Fritzler of Flint; 2 sisters, Mollie Helmreich of Otisville and Frieda Helms of Flint; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, on March 4, 1997; 3 brothers, Baby Jacob, Manuel and Alexander Fritzler; and 2 sister, Kate Frost and Marie Edson. A special thank you to friends, Imelda Kolton, Joyce Gaskin and their families for their loving support and concern; and the caregivers at Fostrian, who give true meaning to "care"giving.

HARRIS, Donald J.

- Of Clio, age 82, died Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at his residence. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

- Of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Flint, age 52, passed away Thursday, October 14, 1999 at his parents home. A memorial service will be held 6PM Tuesday at the Plumb-Smith Funeral Home, G-1208 N. Ballenger Hwy., Flint Township, where the family will receive friends from 5PM Tuesday until the time of service. At JJ's request, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hurley Hospice or Gordon Wells PGSWS. Envelopes for either charity are available at the funeral home. Surviving are: mother, Elaine; father, James, Sr.; 2 brothers, Paul Jamrog and wife Nancy Jamrog of Tuscon, AZ, Jeffrey Jamrog and wife Suzannha of Flint; 5 sisters, Wendy Jamrog of Flint, Suzi Jamrog of Port Charlotte, Florida, Nancy Jamrog of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen Parks and husband Gary of Mt. Morris, Diane Kelly and husband E.J. of Grand Blanc; nephews, Barry Coe and Nicholas Worden; nieces, Jennifer Kelly and Jessica Kelly; and so many special friends. The family wished to thank the wonderful staff of the Veterans Medical Center Liver Transplant Program of Portland, Oregon and also the very special people of Hurley Hospice.

- A long-time resident of Burton, age 74, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 30, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1PM Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at Flint Baptist Temple, 1430 E. Bristol Rd., Burton with Rev. Gerald W. Hodgeson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc from 4-9PM today and 11AM-9PM Tuesday. Mrs. Berry will lie in state at the church Wednesday from 12 Noon until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Flint Baptist Temple. Ruth was born in Norwich, CT on May 4, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Arcelia (Wilbur) Scovel. She was united in marriage with Warren H. Berry Sr. in Norwich on September 13, 1941. Ruth was a faithful member of Flint Baptist Temple and enjoyed working at K-Mart, on Dort Hwy., for a number of years. Survivors include: son, Warren H. Berry Jr. and wife Glenda of Burton; three daughters, Garnet and husband Elezar Mietz of Mayville, Deborah and husband Tom Smith of Flint, Yvonne and husband Steven Turnbow of Murfreesboro, TN; 14 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; one niece and three nephews; loving dog, Pee Wee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Warren Sr. on October 13, 1998; son, Arthur on May 16, 1958; and sister, Mary Gebo.

Survivors include: husband, Gordon; 4 daughters, Deborah J. and husband Chuck Fugate of Midland, Karen M. and husband Kevin Small of Curran, Laurie S. and husband Jim Moncrieff of Grand Blanc, Patti J. and husband Lee Brown of Vicksburg; 6 grandchildren, Clyde, Emily, Tyler, Hanna, Stephen and Sarah; mother, Flossie J. Patterson of Flint; sister, Patricia and husband Dino Ragnone; 2 sisters-in- law, Dorothy Patterson and Evelyn Burdgick. She was preceded in death by her father, Alton; and brother, Robert Patterson.
