Mrs. Joan A. McLain-Schreur
Joan A. McLain-Schreur, 67 of Gaylord died at her home on Wednesday, July 13, 2005. She was born August 19, 1937 in Gaylord the daughter of Archie and Mary (Lozon) Bradley. She was a graduate of Gaylord High School. Joan had a great love of God and cherished her children and grandchildren. She had a zest for life and appreciated the simple pleasures, nature, birds and small animals. She was a retired realtor and in her free time enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, the Purple Heart Ladies Auxiliary and the Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary. Joan is survived by her children, Brenda McCarry of Gaylord, Joseph McLain of Gaylord, Emily (Roger) Clement of Midland; her grandchildren, Monica and Matthew McCarry, Katie and Taylor Fletcher, Rachel and Matthew Clement; one brother, Charles Bradley; two sisters, Rosemarie Tebbe and Susann Leemon; special friend, Marv Kuzma; She was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 1995, her parents Archie and Mary Bradley, her brother Robert Bradley and her brother-in-law Hugh Leemon. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2005 at 11 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Pastor Joe Sereno, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8 PM and on Monday from 10 AM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Frank Sircely
Mr. Frank L. Sircely, 62 of Gaylord died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mr. Sircely was born in White Valley, PA on October 8, 1942. He continued to live in Pennsylvania until he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Mr. Sircely had been employed with Frito-Lay for more than 30 years. He was also involved in the family business, Otsego Lake Corner Store. He attended Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, was a “passionate” golfer and also enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Kip (Angel Morgan, fiancée’) of Gaylord, Kraig (Suzanne) of Gaylord, Kyle (Sara Stott, fiancée’) of Gaylord; four grandchildren, Samuel, Rebecca, Destiny and Donavin; one sister, Genevieve Bresnan of PA; one brother, Harry W. (Mary Ann) of PA; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His parents, Frank and Jeanetta Sircely preceded Mr. Sircely in death. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 2:00 p.m. from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Pastor Joe Sereno officiating. Interment will be at Otsego Lake Twp. cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or to the charity of your choice, through the Nelson Funeral Home.

Mr. Victor “Doc” Spaniak
Doc Spaniak, 62 of Elmira died Monday, July 18, 2005 at his home. He was born in Petoskey on Dec 22, 1942, the son of Felix and Katherine (Howard) Spaniak. He had lived in the Boyne Falls/Boyne City area most of his life. He was the owner of Spaniak & Sons Painting for 17 years and from 1993-1995 owned Little Critters Pet Store in Boyne City. He attended both St. Matthew Catholic Church in Boyne City and St. Thomas Church in Elmira. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading and loved the fishpond at his home. On Feb 6, 1960 at St. Matthew Church in Boyne City he married the former Linda Hampton, who survives. Also surviving are his children Brian (Tammy) of Vulcan, Rhonda (Daniel) Rodriguez of Texas and Lance (Camille) of Charlevoix; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian Erber of Huffman Lake, Esther Burgess of Boyne City, Virginia (Robert) Stephenson of Florida; and one brother, Chet Spaniak of Georgia. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 2:30 PM from St. Augustine Catholic Church in Boyne Falls. Mr. James Wilmer Stone
James Wilmer Stone, age 76 of Lewiston passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005. James had lived in various cities in Michigan. He worked and retired from the Ford Motor Company plant in Wixom. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Lewiston. Mr. Stone enjoyed playing pool and was bartender/manager of the Longhorn Saloon in Lewiston. He is survived by his wife, Cherie; children, Holly (Matt) Miner of Brighton, Barbara (Larry) Todd, Tami (Todd) Bedenis; stepchildren, Debra (Bob) Cramer of Arizona, Dawn (Steve) Rickett of Roseville; 16 grandchildren; brothers, Chuck (Pat) Stone of Linden, Robert (Carlie) Stone of Colorado; and sister Carol (Gino) Gabrielle of Brighton. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 1 PM from the First Baptist Church in Lewiston, Pastor Jason Swartz officiating. There will a benefit dinner for the family of James Stone at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the Moose Lodge. Mr. Warren Gerald Stuckman
Warren Gerald Stuckman, 66 of Gaylord, died Monday, June 20, 2005. He was born on July 16, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant, MI the son of Frank H. and Lucille A. (Light) Stuckman. Warren was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was self-employed as a logger in the timber industry. Warren was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a volunteer for several years at Tendercare of Gaylord. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, who he married on July 14, 1989; his children, Ondreia (Robert) Felker of Johannesburg, Frank (Joelle) Stuckman of Gaylord, Tracy Marie Stuckman of Gaylord; his stepchildren, Brenda (Earl) Fourcart of Gaylord, Cassandra Gray of Flint, Florence (Timothy) Eves of Kalkaska, Kimberly Stockenger of Frankfort, James (Keetah) Vermilyea Jr. of Ionia; 19 Granchildren; his sister, Shirley Jean Davis of Manchester; his brothers, David (Grace) Stuckman of Milan and Richard (Betty) Stuckman of Lansing. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23rd at 1:00 PM from the First United Methodist Church in Gaylord, Rev. John Naile officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Ft. Custer National cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI 49734.

Mrs. Jane Szoczinski
Mrs. Jane E. Szocinski, age 50 of Johannesburg died at her home on Wednesday, April 27, 2005. She was born March 21, 1955 in Dearborn. She was raised in Dearborn and after graduation from high school went on to attend Kirkland Community College where she graduated with a nursing degree. In 1984 she moved to Northern Michigan. She had lived in Lewiston until 1992 when she moved to Johannesburg. She loved nursing and had been employed by Otsego Memorial Hospital for 12 years. She participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and also enjoyed gardening, camping and reading. In addition to the love she had for family and friends she also treasured her cats. On August 29, 1992 in she married William Szocinski, who survives. Also surviving is, her daughter, Amanda Grayson of Traverse City; her mother, Ruth Chubner of Gaylord; two brothers, Fred (Robin) Chubner of Saginaw and Kurt (Connie) Chubner of Charlotte; one sister, Barbara (Bob) Peterson of Westland. Her father Ralph Chubner preceded her in death in 2003. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, April 29, 2005 at 6 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Reverend Mary McClure, officiating. Mrs. Christine Wardell
Mrs. Christine T. Wardell, 53 of Gaylord died Tuesday, May 24, 2005. Mrs. Wardell was born in Detroit on November 27, 1951 to Ignatius and Barbara Apfel. In 1969 she graduated from Nativity High School in Detroit and moved to the Gaylord area in the mid 1970’s. She enjoyed painting and archery. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 6 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Reverend Thomas Mammoser, officiating. Christine is survived by her husband, Eric; and her brother, Dennis (Sherri) Apfel of St. Clair Shores. She was preceded in death by her father Ignatius in 1976, her mother Barbara in 2001 and her brother John in 2002. Mrs. Ernestine Wcisel
Mrs. Ernestine Mae Wcisel, 76 of Gaylord died at her home on Friday, May 13, 2005. Mrs. Wcisel was born in Alpena on September 6, 1928 to Ernest & Ida Mae (Mortimer) Himes. She was raised in Alpena and on November 3, 1945 she married her husband Edwin there. The Wcisel’s made Gaylord their home in 1960. For several years they enjoyed wintering in Florida. Mrs. Wcisel worked at the State Home in Gaylord until 1972, when she and her husband established Wcisel Construction. She remained involved in the family business as secretary and treasurer even during her illness. She cherished her family and adored being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Wcisel is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edwin; five sons, Edwin Jr. (Jane), Jerry (Marilyn), Ernie (Jackie), Ronnie (Jeannette) and Randy all of Gaylord; 17 grandchildren, Kevin, Tracy, Heidi, Ryan, Amy, Todd, Kim, Todd, Sarah, Christine, Jim, Katie, Meghan, Steve, Mike, Dave and Eric; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (Clarence) Eagle of Alpena; sister-in-law, Maryann (Chuck) McKay of Alpena; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Stanley and Ernie, her sisters, Helen, Marjorie and Margaret, and her sister-in-law, Kathleen. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 2 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home (135 N. Center) in Gaylord, Reverend John Naile, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8 PM and again on Monday from 12 Noon until the time of services. Mrs. Mary Wilcoxson
Mary E. Wilcoxson, 88 of Lewiston, MI died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Tendercare in Gaylord, MI. Mrs. Wilcoxson was born in Garrett, IN on January 6, 1917. On January 6, 1937 in Garrett, IN she married Harold Wilcoxson. The couple moved to Lewiston in 1954 from Fort Wayne, IN. The Wilcoxson’s owned the Runway Restaurant in Lewiston for 9 years. Mrs. Wilcoxson had also worked for Essex Wire in Atlanta for 13 years and the Fred Bear Archery for 3 years. She was a member of the Congregational Church and the Lewiston 50+ Club. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 11:00 AM from the Nelson Funeral Home, in Gaylord, MI, Pastor Kenneth McGarvey, officiating. Burial will take place at Albert Township cemetery in Lewiston, MI. Mrs. Wilcoxson was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1997. She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Fern) Wilcoxson of Auburn, IN; her daughter, Joan Tomlinson of Center Line, MI; 5 grandchildren, Deborah, Brian, Mark and Cory Wilcoxson, and Michael Tomlinson; 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Bernice Schneider of Auburn, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Pastor Kenneth Wayne Willett
Pastor Kenneth Wayne Willett, 57 of Traverse City died Friday, August 19, 2005 at Munson Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1948, in Lakeview, Michigan the son of Wessel & Blanche Willett. He was a graduate of Cedar Springs High School and went on to receive an Associate Degree from Ferris State University. He had worked as a police officer in Cedar Springs and later Charlotte, MI. He was Associate Pastor for the Gaylord Community Church for 15 years and he and his family had His Place Youth Center in downtown Gaylord for 3 years. For the past 7 years he has pastored at the Resurrection Life Church in Cheboygan. He was active in the Cheboygan Ministerium, serving as secretary/treasurer for 4 years and was instrumental in cultivating an ecumenical unity among religious leaders throughout northern Michigan. Pastor Ken led and provided covering for many international missions including a mission trip for several young people from Gaylord Community Church. He loved children, his own and others and with his wife Mary had over 20 young people live in their home. Pastor Ken was a true example of Jesus Christ to all around him as a rescuer , defender, provider, advocate and comforter for those in crisis situations. He was a messenger of restoration and reconciliation for all those who shared his laughter and his hope. On August 16, 1968 in Cedar Springs he married the former Mary Diane Middleton, who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Mindi Jo Willett (Richard Sneller), Kathryn Ruth Willett, and granddaughter Mary Makhella all of Traverse City, adopted son Benjamin B. Vollmer of Waxahachie, TX. Also surving is his mother Blanche Willett of Midland; brother, Rev. David (Joanne) Willett of Midland and their children, Darcy Willett of Portland, Andy Willett of Gaylord, Debra McCullom of Midland and Danielle Stube of Muskegon. Several nieces and nephews and a multitude of wonderful friends. A Homecoming Celebration will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 4 PM at the Gaylord Community Church. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Monday from 6-9 PM and will continue on Tuesday at the church beginning at 3 PM. Contributions in memory of Pastor Ken may be directed to the Willett family through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mrs. Mary T. (Kosiara) Zimbicki (wife of the late Walter Zimbicki)
Mary T. Zimbicki, 90 of Gaylord died Thursday, June 23, 2005 in Lapeer. Mrs. Zimbicki was born in Gaylord on August 29, 1914, to Valentine and Lena (Czykyski) Slupski. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish and St. Mary Altar Rosary Society. During the 1950’s – 1960’s she served as the Chester Township Treasurer. She retired from Standard Products in 1976. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting and making quilts. She was preceded in death by her first husband Peter Kosiara and her second husband Walter Zimbicki. She was also preceded in death by her son Victor Kosiara and her sisters Irene Sidebottom, Frances Sidebottom and Amy Kucharek. She is survived by her children, Bruno (Patricia) Kosiara of Midland, John (Carolyn) Kosiara of Lapeer, Patricia (Dennis) Warner of Nashville, MI; daughter-in-law, Georgann Kosiara of Alden; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, John (Irene) Slupski of Wyandotte, Raymond Slupski of Columbus, MI, Charles Slupski of West Branch, Jean (Ed) Smith of Lapo Credo, CA. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 3 PM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Monday from 12 PM–8 PM, Tuesday 10 AM–12 PM and at the cathedral on Tuesday from 2 PM until the time of services. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will recite the rosary Monday afternoon at 3 PM and a parish wake service will be held Monday evening at 7 PM. Mrs. Ruth Anderson
Mrs. Ruth Anderson, 80 of Wolverine died Friday, June 10, 2005. Mrs. Anderson was born in Tennessee on December 3, 1924. She moved to Northville in 1959 and worked at Eastlawn Nursing Home for several years and later worked for Star Manor in Northville for 34 years. She had been living in Wolverine the past 4 years. Mrs. Anderson was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vanderbilt. She was a very loving and selfless woman who always thought of others before herself. She will be fondly remembered for her love of “talking on the phone”. Ruth is survived by her children, Dorothy (Phil) VarnHagen of Vanderbilt, Carroll Payne of Tennessee; her grandchildren, Joni (Mike) Sackrider, Keri (Dennis) Sackrider, and Sara (Bryon) Sackrider all of Wolverine, Jason Payne of Michigan, and Jamie Fisher of Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Shanne, Zachary and Hunter Sackrider; two sisters, Ruby Linneman and Mae, both of Arizona. She was preceded in death by one brother. A family berevement gathering will be held Wednesday evening, June 15, at 7 pm in Vanderbilt. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 2 PM from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Vanderbilt, Elder Zach Gardner officiating. Mr. Ray Atemborski
Ray Atemborski, 73 of Gaylord, passed away May 29th. Retired Chrysler Supervisor, he is survived by his wife Helen, two sons, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Inc., Gaylord, MI.

Mr. Lester E. Beckett
Lester E. Beckett, 78 of Petoskey and formerly of Gaylord died Monday, May 16, 2005 at Bortz Health Care in Petoskey. He was born in Brown City, MI on October 20, 1926 to Lloyd and Edna Beckett. On November 23, 1946, he married the former Leona Koronka of Gaylord who survives. Les had been a school bus driver for the Petoskey school system for 20+ years. He was also a bartender for many years and had worked at various restaurants in Petoskey and Gaylord including Hidden Valley Resort, the Rendezvous, Snow Valley, Schlangs and Boyne Mountain. He was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marine Corps. Les enjoyed all of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Leona; nine children, Florian Beckett of Petoskey, Lavonne (Tom) VerBurg of Grand Rapids, Susan Whyte of Petoskey, Elizabeth Beckett of Traverse City, Errol (Kathleen) Beckett of Traverse City, Marie (Rick) Ramirez of Kalamazoo, Kim (Robert) Moats of Petoskey, Kathy Beckett of Petoskey, Shelly Beckett of Kalamazoo; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Arden Beckett of Florida, Rod Beckett of Waterford; one sister, Mary Ellen (Jim) Lorian of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law Dennis Edward Whyte in 2004. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 20th @ 3pm at St. Mary cemetery in Gaylord. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mrs. Ruby Illa Boyce
Ruby Illa Boyce, 89 of Gaylord and formerly of Fenton, died May 12, 2005. She was a member of Tyrone Presbyterian Church in Fenton. Illa is survived by her children, Carolyn L. (Richard) Krivak, Marilyn C. (Terry) Huber,William A. (Jennifer) Boyce; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Annie Schiesl. She was preceded in death by her husband Emerson W. Boyce and two sisters. Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 12th at Tyrone Presbyterian Church, 10235 White Lake Rd., Fenton, at 12:00 noon with a luncheon to follow. Memorials to Tyrone Presbyterian Church Building Fund C/O Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, MI. 49734.
