GEETING, Marian E.

Age 93, passed away Thursday, February 11, 1999. She was born September 29, 1905 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Guy C. and Millicent E. Shales Whiteside. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Flint and the Downtown Lioness Club of Flint. She retired as the Deputy City Clerk of Flint where she had lived from 1905 until 1997 when she moved to Lansing to live with her daughter. She is survived by daughters, Nancy Ann Walker of Lansing and Judith Sue (William J.) Watson of Barrington, IL; sons, Ned W. (Wanda L.) Geeting of Flint, MI, Daniel C. (Susan L.) Geeting of Kirkwood, MO; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Walter D. Geeting in 1978. Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing, MI. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 15 at the funeral home with Reverend Rae Franke of Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Interment Tuesday at Sugar Grove cemetery, West Alexandria, Ohio. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lions Club or the Leader Dog School for the Blind in Rochester, MI.

HALL, Willard J. Of Flushing,

age 76, died Saturday, February 13, 1999 at Heartland Health Care Center, Fostrian. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, 9252 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Fr. Gene Geromel, SSC will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church Endowment Fund. Mr. Hall was born in Flint, MI August 3, 1922, the son of Lawrence and Effie (Kinnee) Hall. He married Esther Lakies. She preceded him in death. He then married Dona Baxter in Swartz Creek on September 26, 1985. Mr. Hall had been employed by Chevrolet Assembly for 31 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church. Surviving are: wife, Dona Hall of Flushing; daughter, Carolyn and husband William Whitney of Flint; grandchildren, Alicia, Heather, Jason and Stephanie; stepchildren, David and wife Jean Baxter of Flint, Leslie Yats of Flushing, Catherine and husband Kevin McGilvery of Mt. Morris, Carol and husband Doug Patridge of Mattawan, MI; 7 step grandchildren, John, Ann, James, Kyle, Lisa, Amy and Trevor; brother, Cecil Hall of TX; 2 sisters, Janet and husband Wayne Baker of Corunna, Eva and husband Robert Dillon of Corunna; many nieces and nephews. His son, Michael Hall preceded him in death.

BELANGER, Alfred Edward

- Age 76, of Clarkston, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Friday, February 12, 1999 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday from Mt. Morris St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Mr. Balengre will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday and all day Sunday. At 5 p.m. Sunday evening family, friends and parish will gather to pray the Rosary. On Monday morning Mr. Balenger will be taken to church to lie in state from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Memorials may be considered for American Lung Assoc. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Born in Flint January 26, 1923, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Edmond and Lillian (Rood) Belanger. He and Rosalie Ann Cameron were united in marriage September 2, 1946. Veteran of WWII serving with the Army in the Aisian and Pacific Theatre of Operations a member of an automatic weapons unit. Surviving are: his loving wife: Rosalie Ann Cameron Belanger; 7 children, Coleen and husband George LeFeuvre of Leonard, Sandra and husband Willam Pontzious of Shelby, Anthony and wife Annette Belanger of Grand Rapids, Thomas Belanger of Sterling Hts., Gordon and wife Jenny Belanger of Clarkston, Mary Jane Belanger of Oxford, Christine and husband Rick Glassford of Romeo; 16 grandchildren; 2 great- grandchildren; loving brother, Harold and wife Pat Belanger of Clio; several nieces and nephews.

HARRIS, Vivian

- Age 56, died Thursday, February 11, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Visitation will be Sunday 6-9pm and Monday 10-9. Family hour 10:30 with funeral services at 11AM Tuesday at True Life Baptist Church, Rev. Henderson Lee officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort, Mt. Morris. Vivian born March 12, 1942, to William and Edna Baldwin in Fairmont, NC. She leaves: husband, Michael Harris of Tacoma, WA, William and Jessie Baldwin, son, Flex Strozier of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Tawana Strozier of Flint; great-grandson, Jakarius Strozier; brother, Alander Baldwin of Flint; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harris; step-sister, Felecia Henry; step-brother, Richard Henderson of Flint, Christopher Henderson of Fort Polk, LA, Dimitris Henderson of Flint; aunt, Essie Baker of Rockville, MD, Lula Bell Parker of Brooklyn, NY; uncle, John Baldwin of Washington, DC; host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

HAYS, Helen A.

- Of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Thursday, February 11, 1999 at her residence. Funeral service will be held at 10AM Monday, February 15, 1999 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Robert L. Dickie II officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills cemetery. Visitation 11AM-8PM today at the funeral home.

HOFFMAN, John H.

- Of Clio, age 68, died Saturday, February 13, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at the Brown Funeral Home, Hill Road Chapel, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, Mr. Larry Williams officiating. Burial at Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Hoffman will lie in state after 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Hoffman was born June 21, 1930 in Mishawaka, IN, the son of Raymond and Emma (Prange) Hoffman. He was employed at Fisher Body Coldwater Road, retiring in 1986 after 34 years of service. John was a caring, kind-hearted person who will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Surviving are: children, Nancy A. Hoffman, John H. Hoffman II and wife Teresa, Laura D. Hoffman; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; sister, Lois and husband James Brewer; and other relatives and close friends. John was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis in 1996. The family wishes to express a special thank you to the McLaren CCU staff.

HOLLAR, John L.

- Age 78, of Flint Twp., died Saturday, February 13, 1999 at Genesys Hospice. Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Pastor Doug Klein officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 PM Sunday and all day Monday. Family will be present to receive friends Sunday 4-8 PM and Monday 1-8 PM. Memorials may be considered for Colonial Hills Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Born in Independence Kansas, September 19, 1920, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles and Gertrude Hollar. He and Marian L. Gage were united in marriage October 13, 1951. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army and was part of the First Occupational Forces in Berlin. He was a member of 2 senior bowling leagues at Towne and County on Miller Road. Member of UAW Local 598 and retired from Truck and Bus March 1985 as an inspector with 30 years service. Surviving are his wife, Marian; 3 daughters, Patricia and husband Dan Loga of Grand Blanc, Jonna and husband Greg Francis of Lapeer, Sandra and husband Jeff Gorton of Clio; grandchildren, Jonathon Loga of Beaumont TX, Kimberly Loga of Grand Blanc, Jennifer Francis of Lapeer, Rochelle Francis of Lapeer, Jeremy Francis of Lapeer, Ryan Gorton of Clio, Kelsey Gorton of Clio; brother, Jim Hollar of Omaha, Neb; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Lucian.

KELLETT, Fred

- Of Flushing, age 72, died Saturday, February 13, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 1999 at the Brown Funeral Home, 1616 Davison Rd., Rev. Martin Ankrum officiating. Burial at Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Mr. Kellett was born February 21, 1926 in Flint, MI. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS New Orleans. Mr. Kellett was employed as a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, and Sheet Metal Designer at Chevrolet Flint Manufacturing, retiring in 1983 as a Process Engineer. He was a member of the Flint Masonic Lodge #23 and the VFW Davison Post #4087. On April 2, 1949 Fred Kellett married Rita Pickard and she survives him. Also surviving are: children, Fred Kellett, Pamela Long, Kim and wife Ruth Kellett; grandchildren, Susan and Kristine Kellett, Chad and Amy Long, Leanne and Sarah Kellett; brother, Robert Kellett and wife Jo-Ann; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Kellett was preceded in death by son, Scott T. Kellett. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

KLINE, Clifford D.

- Of Mason, age 73, died Friday, February 12, 1999, after a short, courageous struggle against leukemia. Born October 21, 1925, the son of Herman L. and Ethel (Hegedus) Kline. Mr. Kline was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served as a Police Officer for 40 years with the Flint Police Department and Mason Police Department. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason, Mason Lodge #70 F.&A.M., American Legion Browne-Cavender Post #148, Mason and a former member of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herman A. Kline; sister, Eleanor Fox. Surviving are: his loving wife of 53 years, Shirley; daughter, Shelley (Lawrence) McDaid of Fruitport; sons, Gary (Susan) of Mason, Keith (Elizabeth) of Flushing; grandchildren, Erin and Lauren McDaid, Scott and Stephanie Kline, Kara Kline. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 16, 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Mason, 131 E. Maple Street, Mason with the Rev. Mary V. Groty, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Evergreen cemetery, Grand Blanc, MI. Friends may call at the Gorsline- Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason beginning Sunday 7 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the Leukemia Society of America, Michigan Chapter, 21617 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores 48080 in memory of Mr. Kline.

MANUEL, Mr. George Thomas

- Age 75, passed away Sunday, February 7, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, 1999 from the Chapel of Swanson Funeral Home, 2210 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Elder M.L. Albert officiating. Interment Gracelawn cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel at 10:30 a.m. at which time the family will receive friends. Mr. Manuel now reposes in the Chapel of Swanson Funeral Home and may be viewed. Mr. George Thomas Manuel was originally from Kalamazoo, MI. After serving in the U.S. Army, he set up residence in the Flint area where he resided the remainder of his life. He retired from GM. He was a great boxer and known for helping people. He was a great man. He leaves behind son, Thomas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also very many dear and well loved friends. God keep him as he takes his journey home. Preceded him in death, father, George T. Manuel Sr.; mother, Helen Manuel; sister, Dorothy Stafford; brother, Orval Manuel.

- Age 78, died Thursday, February 11, 1999 at D.C.H. Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL.

OLSON, Elizabeth Corinne

- Age 80, of North Branch, died February 12, 1999 at Lapeer Regional Hospital. She was born February 13, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan to Warner and Mary (Kessler) Compte. Elizabeth married Wilbur on May 27, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. Surviving are: daughters, Lura (husband, Doug) Strauel of Lapeer, Mary (husband, Henry) Cheney of North Branch, Phyllis (husband, Paul) Haack of Florida; son, Timothy (wife, Margaret) Olson of North Branch; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (wife, Audrey) Compte of Detroit; sisters, Millie Rose of Farmington Hills, Edith (husband, Frank) Burda of Grawn, MI; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilbur, August 1992; daughter, Millie Castle, December 1994; and brother, Mike. Elizabeth was a volunteer of the North Branch Thrift Shop, a member of the Valley Area on Aging, and North Branch and Lapeer Sr. Citizens. She was a teacher and member of the Child Evangelism Fellowship, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary and a member of the First Baptist Church in North Branch. Memorials may be made to Camp Scholarship at the First Baptist Church. Family will receive friends Saturday, February 13, 1999 from 6-9 p.m. and Sunday, February 14, 1999 from 12-9 p.m. at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home in North Branch. Elizabeth will lie in state at the North Branch First Baptist Church on Monday, February 15, 1999 from 1:30 to 3:30, with the service at 3:30. Pastor Whittenburg and Pastor David Lott will be officiating. The burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in North Branch. Arrangements by Blackburn Chapel- Martin Funeral Home.

SHENKEL, Adelaide H.

- Age 96, of Mt. Morris died Friday, February 12, 1999 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday from First Baptist Church corner of Walter and Louisa Streets in Mt. Morris. Burial in Glenwood cemetery. Mrs. Shenkel will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call after 6 PM Sunday and all day Monday. Tuesday morning Mrs. Shenkel will be taken to church to lie in state from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. Memorial may be directed to her church or Child Evangelism. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Born in Genesee Twp. July 15, 1902, the 4th child of 7 children to Mr. and Mrs. Rawson and Mabel (Russell) Wager. She and John W. Shenkel were united in marriage on June 7, 1923, he preceded her in death October 12, 1970. She attended and graduated from Baker Business College and had been employed as a stenographer. Mrs. Shenkel was a member of Mt. Morris First Baptist Church were she served as a deaconess. She joined at age 11 and been a member for 85 years. She served her church 24 years as the dining room chairperson, she taught girls Bible class, and she and her sister were in charge of the nursery for many years. Surviving are her daughter, Mabel and husband Willard Pinney of Mt. Morris; son-in-law, Kenneth and wife Eleanor Morey of Mt. Morris; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Sabra Culver of Clio; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John 1987; daughter, Florence Morey April 15, 1974; 2 brothers, Russell and Howard; 3 sisters, Mary Ella Draper, Louise Wager, and Nellie Rogers.
