Bennie Ciboron

Maybee

Bennie Ciboron, age 80, of Maybee, died on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 peacefully at home on the farm in Maybee.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 11, 2004 in Platte Center, Neb. with military honors from the American Legion Honor Guard.

Bennie is survived by: a foster son, Alexander Ilicin Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Maybee; granddaughters, Jami, Jo, Jessi; great- granddaughters, Alexis, 8, Jodi, 5, and Jade, 2; and a great-grandson Steven, 2; his brother, Frank Ciboron Jr. of Columbus Neb.; a brother-in-law, Leonard Jarecki of Omaha; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clem and Leonard Ciboron; and a sister, Helen Jarecki.

A memorial service will be held on March 5 at Milan Free Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. A memorial garden will be built at Sacredwinds Thoroughbred Farm in memory of Bennie.

Evelyn Marie Schmenk

Milan

Evelyn Marie Schmenk, age 77, died Feb. 23, 2005 at Saline Evangelical Home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1927 in Maybee, the daughter of Edna (Sullivan) Geierman. On April 21, 1951, she married John E. Schmenk and he survives. Mrs. Schmenk was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan.

Survivors in addition to her husband, John, include: two sons, Donald of Ann Arbor and Thomas (Cathy) Schmenk of Ypsilanti; five daughters, Edna (Ray) Irving of Novato, Calif., Kathleen Schmenk of Tecumseh, Donna Schmenk of Ypsilanti, Carol Tyre of Florida, and Gail Schmenk of Saline; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Geierman of Texas and Daniel (Elly) Geierman of Hillman; and one sister, Ann (Jack) Connelly of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, John and Donald.

Jane (Ellen) Nee Ford Bonczyk

Saline

Jane Bonczyk, age 69, died Wednesday, Feb. .23, 2005 at the Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor.

She was born in Detroit on Lincoln's birthday in 1936, the daughter of William and Rose (Moras) Ford. In 1959, while still in Detroit, Jane married Robert Boncyk and he survives. She received her bachelor's degree from Aquinas College and her master's from Eastern Michigan University, both in special education. Jane had been a teacher for many years in the Washtenaw Intermediate School System, specifically with High Pointe students. She and her husband Robert belonged to the Nomads and she was a volunteer at the Speech and Language Institute at the U-M Hospital. Jane was a very ardent bridge player and also loved to play Jeopardy.

Jane is survived by her husband, Robert, retired from Parke-Davis; four children, Robert G. (Michelle DeHaan) Bonczyk of Holland, John (Cynthia Siefert) Bonczyk of Ann Arbor; Ellen (Raymond) Bonczyk-Duce of Saline, and William (Lorraine Hawkins) Bonczyk of Portage; nine grandchildren, Molly, Nicki, Sarah, Jessi, Samantha, Andrew, Elizabeth, Cameron and Lillian. She is also survived by a brother, John (Henriett) Ford; sister-in-law, Patricia (John) Poposki; and nine nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washtenaw Intermediate School District or to Arbor Hospice.

Cecelia Poet

Manchester

Cecelia Poet, age 92, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at the Saline Evangelical Home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1912 in Detroit, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Jazwa) Szyndlar. She was a Wayne County resident until moving to the Manchester farm in 1957. On Nov. 19, 1938 in Wayne County, she married Andrew Poet, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2002. Cecelia was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Saline where she was active in the Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau, the Kossel Ost Community Group, and an active member of the Farm Bureau Women's Committee for many years. She looked forward to competing in the homemaker contest at both the Manchester and Saline fairs where she had won Homemaker of the Year.

Survivors include: one son, Stanley (Beverly) Poet of Manchester; four grandchildren, Judith (Stephen) Gilmore of Britton, Robert (Lynda) Poet of Manchester, Eric (Karen) Poet of Saline, and Scott (Lisa) Poet, also of Manchester; eight great-grandchildren: Deborah, William, and Richard Poet, Samantha, Erica, and McKenzie Poet; Josie and Rebekah Gilmore; one sister, Agnes Banotai; and one brother, Stanley (Sophie) Szyndlar, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by one infant son and daughter, one brother, William, and two sisters, Josephine and Helen; and one infant great-grandson. Burial was in the Michigan Memorial Park located in Flat Rock.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washtenaw Farm Council for the 4-H Youth Show, or the Saline Community Fair Homemakers Program.

Mary Lou Marion

Saline

Mary Lou Marion, age 63, went to be with the Lord on Saturday Feb. 26, 2005 at her home.

She was born May 26, 1941 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Raymond W. and Luella L. (Marshall) Weber. On Oct 22, 1960 from the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, she married Marvin Marion, and he survives. Mary Lou had been a Saline resident all of her life. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline, where she taught Sunday school for several years. She was a graduate of Saline High School class of 1958 and Senior Class Secretary. Mary Lou was a member of the Saline Steer Club, and active in the Saline Community Fair.

Survivors in addition to her husband Marvin include: three children, Daniel Marion of Saline, Marlene (Brad) Almquist of Canton, and Janet Marion, also of Saline; one grandson, who she adored, Dylan Almquist; two sisters, Joyce Braun and Janet (Milton) Weidmayer, all of Ann Arbor; a sister-in-law, Delores (Darell) Finkbeiner; and one brother-in-law, Robert Marion, all of Saline; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Lloyd Braun; and a nephew, Roger Finkbeiner.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Harold A. Drake

Lodi Township

Harold A. Drake, age 89, died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born Sept. 1, 1915 in Lodi Twp., the son of Arthur and Clara Lucinda (Kinsley) Drake. Harold had been a Lodi Township resident all of his life. On Jan. 22, 1936 in Saline, he married Alma H. Jedele, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1987. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scio Township., and a lifelong dairy farmer. He was a member of the M.M.P.A. for more than 68 years. He was very active on the Lodi Township Planning Commission for many years and a member of the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include: three children, Donald Drake of Lodi Township., Katherine Fodor of Hemet, Calif., and Robert Drake of Richmond, Ky. Other survivors include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ahren of Baltimore, Md.; many nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Alice Drake. He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife, by one brother, Elmer Drake; two stepsons, Ralph and Earl Gensley; two daughters-in-law, Ruth Gensley and Janet Drake; one son-in-law, Ted Fodor; and one grandson, James Drake.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Marian E. (Moon) Mittendorf

Saline

Marian E. Mittendorf passed away on March 2, 2005, in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born in Elyria, Ohio on Feb. 14, 1917. In 1948, she married Robert Mittendorf. They moved to Ypsilanti, then Saline, where they lived until their retirement in 1981. Marian retired from the University of Michigan where she worked at the Institute for Social Research from 1969 until 1981. In the years prior to that she was employed at Associated Truck Lines, The Saline Reporter, and Eberbach Pharmacy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.

Marian is survived by: her daughter, Gail McAlpine of Orange, Calif.; a son, Robert Jr. (Buz) of Traverse City; her partner, Ralph Thompson, of Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

A quiet family service was held.

Hiram B. Kegerreis

Ypsilanti

Hiram B. Kegerreis, age 97, died March 1, 2005 at Saline Evangelical Home.

He was born April 11, 1907 in Allegan County, Mich. to Hiram and Bertha (Beals) Kegerreis. On Nov. 28, 1934, he married Margaret VanDerWege in Goshen, Ind. He was an ordained minister, attended York Baptist Church, member of the Masons and N.A.R.F.E.

He is survived by: a daughter, Margaret Watson of Holden, Mass.; a son, James (Charlotte) Kegerreis of Ypsilanti; a stepdaughter, Jane (John) Steurer of Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1989; a son Robert in 1998; a granddaughter, and three half-brothers.

Contributions may be made to York Baptist Church, Faith Grinnell Chelation Fund, or St. Joseph Mercy Hospice.

Aliera C. Long

Milan

Aliera C. Long, age 83, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the Evangelical Home in Saline with her loving family by her side.

She was born Aug. 6, 1921 in Milan, the daughter of Hugh Faye and Lillian (Heldt) Sackett. She graduated from Milan High School in 1939 and was a licensed beautician. On Nov. 23, 1940, she married Leo Long in Monroe, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 1989. Mrs. Long was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milan and the Milan senior citizens. She also loved to dance and enjoyed making ceramics.

Survivors include: a son, Johnny (Peg) Long of Saline, and a daughter, Karen Johnston (Richard Schultz) of Tecumseh; five grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Long, Sue (Ken) Wisniewski, Kimberly (David) Smith, Pamela (Michael) Masters and Matthew (Dawn) Johnston; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Shurley (Evelyn) Sackett also survive. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Sackett.

Those desiring may make contributions to the Saline Evangelical Home or St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Ann Arbor

William L. Kirk of Ann Arbor died on Sept. 12, 2004.

Interment has taken place.

Rose Solowczuk

Saline

Rose Solowczuk, age 88, of Saline passed away on March 9, 2005 at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.

She was born July 27, 1916 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. On Sept. 10, 1938, she married John Solowczuk, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: five children, John (Susan) Solowczuk, Thomas (Judy) Solowczuk, David (Judy) Solowszuk, Stephen (Deborah) Solowszuk and Therese (Dale) Solowszuk Doud; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She has three surviving siblings, Helen Szymon, Sophie Dobush and Walter Dobush.

She has been the source of wisdom and strength for her family and friends. Her acceptance, compassion and unique sense of humor will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her.

Rose will be laid to rest at Oakwood cemetery, Saline. The family is requesting contributions be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Diabetes Education, A.L.S. of Michigan, or the Evangelical Home of Saline.
