William Ray Starling

Tipton

William Ray Starling, 58, of Tipton, died June 12, 2005.

He was born Sept. 6, 1946 in Monroe, the son of Robert and Helen (Adams) Starling. He married Susan M. Van Doren on Nov. 28, 1980 and she survives.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam era. He was retired from Ford Motor Co., Milan. He was the owner of Starling's Nest Restaurant and Driving Range. He was a longstanding member of Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department and served as Deputy Chief. He was also a part-time resident of Aruba.

In addition to his wife, Susan, Bill is survived by: three daughters, Julie Daly, Kelly (Kevin) Marion, and Melanie (Moses) Hensley; a son, J.K. (Christine Fick) Vaillancourt; his mother, Helen of Saline; two sisters, Sharon Heft and Nancy (Wayne) Ross; and two brothers, Robert (Katrene) and Jack (Debbie); three grandchildren, Kiara, Blake, and Makenzie; and faithful companion Maddie. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Retreat or Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department.

Henry Kolodziejczak

Milan

Henry Kolodziejczak "Koback," 82, died Thursday, June 9, 2005 in Huntsville, Ala.

He was born Dec. 26, 1922 in Detroit, the son of Joan and Anna Kolodziejczak. On Nov. 28, 1945 he married Helen Shattuck, who died Dec. 17, 2001. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a farmer for 75 years.

Survivors include: a son, Jeffery (Sherry) Kolodziejszak; a daughter, Charlene (John) Bendzick; five grandchildren, Linda, Michael, Laura, Sara, and Ryan; one sister, Virginia Golembiewski of Livonia. He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Jr., and two brothers, Edward and Zigmond.

The Rite of Committal was held in Marble Park cemetery.

Larry D. Ackerman

Azalia

Larry D. Ackerman, 53, died June 13, 2005 at the University of MichiganHospital.

He was born June 1, 1952 in Ann Arbor to Lloyd and Alice (Norman) Ackerman. Larry retired from Ford Motor Co. Rawsonville Plant in February of this year and was an avid sportsman.

Survivors include: his mother, Alice of Azalia; two brothers, Dale of Onsted, and James (Pam) of Maybee; and two sisters, Sherry Jacobs of Petersburg, and Eileen (Dewey) Drennen of Milan. His father and sister Joyce preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan with Pastor Blake Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m.

Jill Renee LaRocque

Jill Renee LaRocque, formerly of Manchester,died June 26, 2005 in Montana.

The 22-year-old daughter of Deb LaRock, Jill was an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Mont.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Joy K. Floden

Formerly of Saline

Joy was born in Somerville, Texas on Dec. 28, 1922 and passed away of acute leukemia in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. on Aug. 16, 2005.

Joy is survived by her husband of 58 years, John G. (Jack) Floden; son Robert and his wife Gloria of East Lansing; daughter Mary Lea and her husband Dan Bonnell of Los Angeles; two grandchildren, Tuve B. Floden and Kathleen B. Bonnell; Joy's sister Mary Isbell of Carbondale, Ill.; Mary's children, Joy, Susan, James and Thomas; and deceased brother Ed's children, Judy, Michael, Dennis and Stephen.

In 1941, Joy graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Ill. She attended the University of Illinois, and briefly taught seventh and eighth grades in Cherry Valley, Illinois. In Rockford, she was church organist at the Unitarian Church, had a private piano studio, was accompanist for Miss Marguerite's School of Ballet, and played and sang for the Cerebral Palsy School and Child Development Center.

When Jack's work took them to Appleton, Wisc., Joy became an administrative assistant for the United Way and Pierce Manufacturing, and played organ at the First Church of Christ Scientist. In Atlanta, she was the administrative assistant at Central Congregational Church. After retiring, Joy and Jack moved to Pensacola, Fla., then to Saline and to Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Joy was a member of Delta Gamma and PEO. In Rockford, she was a charter member of the Cotillion and a member of First Presbyterian Church and Second Congregational Church. In Appleton, she was a trustee of First Congregational Church. She attended Central Congregational Church in Atlanta, and Presbyterian Churches in Pensacola and Saline. Joy was active in the Network of Biblical Storytellers, enjoyed learning languages, and loved to travel the world. Joy spent many wonderful hours accompanying young musicians. She performed in numerous amateur theatricals, and spent one summer performing in a play in New York. She recently lived at Belmont Village in Rancho Palos Verdes, where she accompanied Sunday services and was a founding member of a folk singing group.

Joy has requested that there be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any charity or place of worship.

John B. (Jack) Moranville

Saline

John B. (Jack) Moranville, 84, passed away Sept. 7, 2005 at the St. Joseph Mercy Saline Hospital.

Loving husband of 63 years to Kate, Jack retired from R&B Machine Tool in 1984. He was a past Commander and lifetime honorary member of the Saline American Legion Post 322 and member of the 40 et 8.

Survivors include: three children, John (Kim) Moranville of Granada Hills, Calif., Nanette Cooper of Ann Arbor and Cathy (Dan) Yoder of Tecumseh; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert.

Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 11 with a funeral on Monday, Sept. 12 at Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.

Merrilla "Milie" Shock

Milan

Merrilla "Millie" Shock, 86, died Sunday morning, Sept. 11, 2005 at the Saline Evangelical Home.

She was born Oct. 13, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio to Roy and Mattie (Small) Cheever. On Dec. 24, 1935, she married LaVern "Andy" Shock in Ypsilanti, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2004. Mrs. Shock lived in Milan all her life, was a member of the Milan Free Methodist Church, a volunteer for St. Joseph Hospice, and enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by: three sons, Gerald (Kathy) of Tecumseh, LaVern Jr. (Angie) and Larry (Janet) of Ypsilanti; one daughter, Neva (George) Swift of Tecumseh; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Cheever of Marshall. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, four sisters, a son, Fred, and a daughter, Shirley LaBumbard.

Burial took place in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor.

Those desiring may make contributions to Milan Free Methodist Church. Arrangements by Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home.

Robert E. Armbruster

Saline

Robert E. Armbruster, age 57, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 surrounded by family.

Robert was born May 20, 1948, son of Ray and Shirley (Rogers) Armbruster. He graduated from Saline High School in 1966. Robert was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the Saline American Legion, Post 322. He was employed by the City of Saline and D.N. Higgins underground. Bob was an avid sports fan and loved all the years he played fast pitch softball. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. His father, Ray, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Heath and Michelle Armbruster; his mother, Shirley; his brother, Wes (Cindy) Armbruster; sisters, Nancy (Phil) Albert and Debra (Mike) Sells; constant companion, Montie; and many good friends.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Saline American Legion, Post 322.

Iva Ferguson

Romeo

Iva "Fergy" Ferguson, age 99, died peacefully Jan. 13, 2006, at the Saline Evangelical Home.

She was born in Romeo, Mich. to parents Herman and Marie Ferguson. Iva worked as a bacteriologist for 38 years at Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals before retiring to Independence Village in Frankenmuth. Her family is grateful for the faithful care from the staff at the Evangelical Home and Arbor Hospice.

A memorial service will be held in Frankenmuth at a later date.

Henry E. DeJonghe

Alpena

Henry E. DeJonghe, age 86, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at his home in Alpena, Mich.

He was born in Britton, Mich., Aug. 6, 1920 to Honre and Marie (Florin) Dejonghe. His sisters, Margaret and Louise, and his brothers, Morris, Albert Alphonse and Norman, preceded him in death.

His wife, Thresa, and daughter, Pat Bennett of Saline, a granddaughter, Diana Bennett of Ypsilanti, all survive him as well as his sister-in-law Rose (Bert) DeJonghe of Ridgeway, and many loving nephews and nieces.

Henry worked as a toolmaker for Central Specialty and King Engineering and was a model maker for Bendix Aerospace of Ann Arbor and Tecumseh Products. Henry enjoyed deer hunting in the Upper Peninsula, snowmobiling and travel. He was a member of the Alpena Sportsmen's Club. Cremation has taken place. At his request there was no service.

William Edward Garrett

Saline

William E. Garrett, 85, of Saline, died Thursday Feb. 9, 2006.

He was born Aug. 31, l920, in Indianapolis, and resided there until 1954 when the family moved to Dearborn, Mich. William was united in marriage to Elenor Rose From (daughter of Guy D. and Ferne Dollison From) on March 4, 1944. He attended Indiana University and Purdue University, Cincinnati University, Wayne State University and several International Business Machines Corporation educational facilities in various locations. William was employed by the Automobile Club of Michigan for 26 years. He retired as Vice President of Corporate Relations, moved to Brighton, and spent six months each year in Rotonda, Fla. He became a permanent resident of Venice, Fla. in 1996. During his tenure with the Automobile Club of Michigan, he was General Manager of the Automobile Club and the Auto Club Member life Insurance Co. He served as President of the Auto Club Employees Credit Union and the Detroit Chapter of the Data Processing Management Association. He was a member of the National AAA Corporate Management Committee, American Management Association, Planning Executive Institute, and, the Data Processing Advisory Committee of Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn. William was a member of the Dearborn and Oak Pointe Golf and Country Clubs in Michigan and Rotonda and Pelican Pointe Golf and County Clubs in Florida. He belonged to the Sarasota Genealogical Society and the Saramana Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He served in the U. S. Navy for four years during World War II. Survivors include his children William Edward Garrett II of St. Cloud, MN, Pamela and Robert Grosshans Jr., of Ann Arbor, grandsons David, William III, Alexander, and Cameron Garrett, and granddaughter Melissa and Charles Brown.

William was a Presbyterian and belonged to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Venice, Fla. Over the last five years, William lived in Brecon Village of Saline and he was an active resident forming many valued and close relationships. Memorial services were held at Brecon Village in Saline, on Monday, Feb. 13. Roger Meiller, director of Religious Services, facilitated the service.

Memorials may be sent to Brecon Village, 200 Brecon Dr., Saline, MI, 48176. Arrangements by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline.

James Oliver Sines

Saline

James Oliver Sines, age 63, died Thursday Feb 9, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born May 23, 1942 in Plainwell, Mich., the son of Donald and Frances (Oliver) Sines. On Aug. 5, 1967, he married Judy Lutz in Ida, Mich. and she survives. Jim was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church of Saline and had been a guidance counselor for Lincoln High School for 31 years. James was a graduate of Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor and master degrees, and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Survivors in addition to his wife Judy include: two sons, Jeffrey(Jennifer) Sines of Ferndale and Jason (Elaine) Sines of Tecumseh; and his mother Frances Sines of Plainwell, Mich. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Ethan, Jacob, and Emily of Ferndale, Christopher, and Maria,and Teresa of Tecumseh. James was preceded in death by his father Donald Sines. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church of Saline with Judy Shipman Officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood cemetery in Saline.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Motor Neuron Disease Fund, Department of Neurology, University of Michigan Health System, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-0316.
