Marjorie H. Kohler

Formerly of Saline

Marjorie H. Kohler, 84, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at her Spring Hill, Fla. residence.

Marjorie was born in Morenci, Mich. and moved to Spring Hill 12 years ago from Saline. Marjorie was a homemaker and member of American Legion Post 322 Auxiliary of Saline. She was also a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Spring Hill and Trinity Lutheran Church of Saline.

Survivors include: one son, Arthur C. Weber; one daughter, Sharon Frantom; three stepsons, Elwin Kohler Jr., Jim Kohler, and Dave Kohler; four stepdaughters, Rose Hastings, Marie Bransmer, Anita Rothman, and Jean McLean; one sister, Margaret Carroll; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Kathy Ann Baker

Ann Arbor

Kathy Ann Baker of Ann Arbor died suddenly and unexpectedly on Feb. 2, 2005.

She was comforted and cherished by her mother and brother until the end of her life.

Survivors include: her mother, Nancy Crisp, who is, and will always be, thankful for the precious years she was able to have with Kathy, every minute of that time now treasured beyond measure; by her father, Kenneth McAdam, who loved her only the way a father could; by her brother, David Crisp, who will be forever grateful that in the final years of her life he was able to tell her how much he truly loved and cherished her as his sister; by her two sons, Tyler, 9, and Travis, 7, around whom her world revolved, and who will always remember the trips to the pond to fish or to sled, the books she read to them, and the games she played; and by her aunts, uncles, cousins, and niece, who will always remember the sweetness and caring that Kathy was.

What we have lost, heaven has gained,

for today God truly has a

new angel.

Funeral arrangements were made by Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor.

Jan Marie (Palmer) Harting

Milan

Jan Marie (Palmer) Harting, age 48, passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005.

Jan was born Aug.19, 1956 in Ann Arbor. She is survived by: her parents, Jack and Nina Palmer of Milan; two brothers, Brian D. Palmer of Jerome and William S. Palmer of Novi; and a nephew, Eric Palmer of Jerome. Jan also leaves behind Randy Harting of Grass Lake, Janet Harting, and very special friend Jeffrey.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family remembrance will be held.

Contributions can be made per donor's choice in memory of Jan.

Arrangements were made by the Ochalek Stark Funeral Home.

Evelyn M. Olsen

Saline

Evelyn M. Olsen, age 55, died unexpectedly on Feb. 3, 2005.

]She was born June 22, 1949 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Harold and Imogene (Power) Mason and they preceded her in death. Evelyn graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic High School in 1967. On Oct. 4, 1969, she married Fred Olsen at St. Alexis Catholic Church in Ypsilanti, and he survives. Evelyn was an active member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline. She worked in Saline and Ann Arbor for 30 years as a hairdresser and was also a member of the Ann Arbor W.B.A. Evelyn had a great love for her family and enjoyed sewing, painting and crafts.

Survivors besides her husband include: three daughters, Rebecca (Tracey) Sheats, Amanda (Andrew) Hoeft, and Cara Olsen; one grandson, Evan Michael Sheats; a sister, Sylvia Maynard; mother and father-in-law, Marie and Donald Olsen; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Douglas (Sandy) Olsen and Douglas (Sue) Weber; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving friends.

Burial took place in Oakwood cemetery.

The family requests that contributions be made to American Diabetes Association or Breast Cancer research, two of the many research organizations that she believed in.

Jane Eileen Raus

Saline

Jane Eileen Raus, age 70, died Feb. 9, 2006.

She was born Oct.12, 1936 to Leslie and Margaret (Schlosser) Jordan of Saline. Jane was a loving wife to Edward Raus, and loving mother to her sons, Lee, LaVerne, and Roger.

Her sister, Judy Braun, preceded her in death. Jane is survived by her sisters, Jean and Jo Scruggs, Jerry Taylor, and her brother, Jim Jordan, who all reside in Saline.

She graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a teaching degree and became a very respected teacher for 39 years in the Manchester School District. Jane introduced the annual fourth grade trip to Holland, Mich. while teaching there. Many students learned about Holland, Mich. and about the Netherlands on that trip. Her passion in the summertime was working in her flower garden. Jane, with hesitation, decided to fly on vacations. She found she enjoyed flying and made several trips, most recently to Washington, D.C. last spring. Jane was a warm, friendly person, well liked by her colleagues and dearly loved by her family. Jane will be missed.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.

Stanley Eugene (Butch) Agner

Formerly of Milan

Stanley Eugene (Butch) Agner, age 54, died peacefully on Feb. 16, 2006.

Stanley was born May 13, 1952 to his parents, Geraldine and Stanley Agner in Tecumseh. His mother, Geraldine R. Agner, his brother Charles Norman Agner of Orlando, Fla., and his sister Linda L. Singleton of Byhalia, Miss., survive him, He also leaves behind his wife, Mary M. Agner of Belfountain, Ohio. His five sons, Terry Rodenberger, Travis Rodenberger, Tyler Agner, Tony Agner, and Isaac Agner, and many grandchildren also survive.

He worked at Hardings Screw Factory in Marysville, Ohio and was also a Vietnam veteran. Stanley enjoyed his John Deere tractors and working in his yard.

The funeral service was held at the Church of Christ in Rushsylvania, Ohio on Feb. 20. The U.S. Honor Guard presided at graveside services.

Rose Josephine Anderson

Saline

Rose Josephine Anderson, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2006 at Heartland Health Care Center in Ypsilanti with family at her side.

Rose was born Aug. 3, 1911 in Ludington, Mich., to Josephine Mary (Miller) and Anton Chvala Sr. She graduated at 16 from Ludington High School. She attended Mason County Normal College and began teaching in one-room schools in the area at 18. After they met at a dance, Rose was married in Cadillac at age 21 to Harry Linne Anderson Sr. of Manistee, a young architectural engineering graduate of the University of Michigan. He was the youngest of the family who owned Charles A. Anderson Construction of Manistee, builder of many area schools, factories, commercial buildings, residences and cottages. At that time, she had to quit teaching once she married . After living in Manistee, they settled in Saline. Rose became a homemaker, raising four children. She loved cooking, sewing, and gardening. She studied tailoring under Max Aupperle and taught tailoring and sewing. She was a member of the Saline Women's Club and her church's Mary-Martha Guild. She was very involved in her children's activities. In her early 40s, Rose decided to return to work and college. She attended Eastern Michigan University and received a B.S. in Elementary Education, M.S. in Special Education, and a Specialist degree in Reading. She started teaching at Rogers Corners one-room school, first grade in Chelsea Schools, and first grade and special education in the Saline Area Schools for many years. She was an excellent teacher and was well-liked by her students and their families. She received Teacher of the Year Award in Saline. She retired in 1972 and loved to spend weekly breakfasts with her friends. Rose spent most of her summers at her cottage on Lake Michigan at Manistee. She said it was her "part of heaven." She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline, the American Association of University Women in Ann Arbor, and the Saline Historical Society. She received the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award in Saline in 1984. She had a wonderful attitude about life. She was eager to learn new things, was an avid reader, and loved to travel. After she retired, she and her husband traveled extensively worldwide. Until three weeks before her death, Rose lived alone in her beloved house in Saline with minimal help. Her favorite phrase continued to be "Don't we have it good?" Even stormy days were described as "nice."

Rose is survived by her sister, Dottie Baker of Muskegon; brother, Joseph Chvala of Cleveland; daughter, Louise Anderson Low, and a son-in-law, James T. Low; grandchildren, James William (Jamie), Eric Linne, Kari Louise and Antony Anderson (Andy) Low of Saline, and by her daughter, Barbara Anderson-Kari of Roseville, grandson John Rosen and his three children of New Jersey; daughter-in-law Maria Anderson and grandsons Dr. Harry L. Anderson III of Kettering, Ohio, and Anthony Anderson of Highlands Ranch, Colo. Rose was preceded in death by her sisters, Mabel and Helen; by her brothers, Anton Jr. (Tony), George, and Richard; and by her husband, Harry; and sons, Harry Linne Anderson Jr. and William Gordon Anderson.

Visitation will be at Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline on Friday, March 10 from 5-8 p.m. Visitation also at 2 p.m. with funeral services at 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Saline with Revs. William F. Natsis and Mark H. Smith officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery, Manistee, Mich.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Saline Area Historical Society.

Martin Rey Vila

Formerly of Saline

Martin Rey Vila passed away March 3, 2006 at his residence.

Martin was born Dec. 5, 1925 in Detroit, the son of Antonio and Carmen (Rodriguez) Vila. He was a veteran serving in U.S. Army during World War II. Martin and Ruth resided in Saline, from 1964-1990. While living in Saline, Martin was active in the Boy Scouts and the Holy Cross Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Lawrence Technological University Alumni Association. Martin was licensed in the state of Michigan as a Professional Engineer. After retirement, they relocated to Kalamazoo in 1999. Martin enjoyed spending his retirement close to his children and grandchildren. Prior to his retirement in 1990 Martin was employed for 32 years as an electrical engineer with Ford Motor Co. On May 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Harvey who survives. Also surviving are two children, Matthew (Susanne) Vila of West Virginia, Gary (Solly) Leiterman of Kalamazoo; four grandchildren, Laura and Anthony Vila, Darwin (Geannie) Leiterman, Olive (Dharwin) Yanilla; two great-grandchildren, Jaden Leiterman and Nicolas Yanilla; a sister, Carmen (Joseph) Mosquera of Dearborn; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Wednesday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Interment will follow in Hope cemetery, Texas Township.

Eleanor M. (Lobbestael) Johnson

Milan

Eleanor M. (Lobbestael) Johnson, 84, of Milan, died peacefully on Feb. 25, 2006, in Milan, surrounded by her loyal and dedicated family members.

Eleanor had a long and distinguished career in local politics, which included serving on the Planning Commission in Milan Township for 15 years. She was well known for her devotion to animals in general and to airedale terriers in particular.

She is survived by her sister Madeline (Ronald) Patrick of Mancelona, Mich.; her brother, Paul Lobbestael of Beaverton, Mich.; many other members of her extended family; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Johnson; five brothers, Alexander, Charles, Leo, Alfred, and Fremont Lobbestael; and three sisters, Elizabeth Demel, Margaret Hanson, and Edith Reaume. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.

Those wishing to contribute in her memory may do so at the Humane Society or Arbor Hospice.

Betty Lorraine O'Connor

Saline

Betty Lorraine O'Connor, age 86, passed away the morning of March 11, 2006, at home under the loving care of her children and Hartland Hospice.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1919 in Crabtree, Pa., to Charles and Nellie (Colbert) McCauley and married Ralph K. O'Connor on Nov. 18, 1939 in Detroit. Her parents, her husband Ralph, brother John McCauley, and daughter-in-law Coni Linderoth wife of son David preceded her in death.

A service oriented person, she took great pleasure in participating in volunteer activities that she believed made the world a better place. An avid bridge and pinochle player, she enjoyed playing cards at both the Saline and Pittsfield senior centers.

Betty is survived by her children, Patrick (Marion) O'Connor, David O'Connor, Richard O'Connor, Daniel O'Connor, Donna O'Connor, and Maureen (John) Holloway, as well as seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Betty's life will be celebrated on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline. Mass will be preceded by visitation at the church at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Saline Senior Center, the Pittsfield Senior Center, or St. Andrew's Catholic Church.

George N. Brassow Jr.

Saline

George N. Brassow Jr., age 76, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 14, 2006.

He was born June 3, 1929 in Ann Arbor, the son of George and Minnie (Brassow) Brassow. On Aug. 3, 1957 from the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ann Arbor, he married Marilyn Jedele and she survives. George had been a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saline where he was baptized and confirmed, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, and held various Church offices. He had been employed by Sarns-3M Corp. for many years as a machinist until his retirement. He was a member of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors in addition to his wife Marilyn include: five daughters, Laura (Steve) Schaible of Ann Arbor, Lisa (Steve) Telgen of Milan, Linda (Ron) Santini of Saline, Leslie (Rob) Hughes of Tecumseh, and Lois Brassow, also of Saline; seven grandchildren, Jenniffer, Jessica, and Jill Schaible, Samantha (Aaron) Friese, Andrew Telgen, Katherine Hughes, and Makayla Santini, two brothers; Rev. Roy (Wilma) Brassow of Texas, and Earl (Karen) Brassow of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Harold Brassow.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saline with Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. William Natsis Officiating. Burial will follow in the Lodi Township cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or Arbor Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church where friends may begin calling on Thursday, March 16 between the hours of 2-8 p.m. and at the Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of Service at 11 a.m. Arrangements by the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home of Saline.
