Mr. Audie E. Sehl
Mr. Audie E. Sehl, age 49 of Gaylord died Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Audie was born on January 17, 1957 in Gaylord, the son of A. Dayton & Wanda (Simons) Sehl. He was a 1975 graduate of Gaylord High School. He later enlisted in the United States Army and after the service returned to Gaylord. In 1979 he married Janet Oliver. Audie worked at Wickes Lumber for several years and was most recently employed as a dispatcher/ traffic coordinator for Tandem Transportation. He had a great passion for the Otsego County Fair. He served on the fair board for 16 years and was vice president for the past 4 years. He was also a big fan of Gaylord sports in which he and his children were very involved. He often refereed for various sporting events. Audie had a great pride in his community and was active in many community events. He also loved raising his horses. Audie is survived by his wife of 26 years, Janet; his children, John, Jenna and Jamie; special friends, Meghan Crowley and Rory Heaney; brothers and sister, Audrey Howe of Florida, Dayton (Brenda) of Sandusky, MI, Denver of Florida and Roger (Janet) of Vanderbilt; grandmother, Pearl Sehl of Gaylord; many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Dayton and Wanda and grandfather Pete Sehl. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at 2:00 PM from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Hill cemetery in Vanderbilt. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 Noon until 8 PM and on Sunday at the church from 1 PM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sehl children for an education fund, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Edward S. Sevenski Sr.
Edward S. Sevenski Sr., age 58 of Gaylord died Monday, January 23, 2006 at his home. He was born in Boyne Falls, MI on January 28, 1947, the son of Michael and Celia (Kuzmik) Sevenski. On Oct. 4, 1965 in Grand Rapids, he married the former Florence VanNoller. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was always most important in his life. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and hunting. Ed is survived by his wife of 40 years, Florence; four children, Edward S. Sevenski Jr., of Florida, Paula Potter, Cindy L. Fouts, and Scott S. Sevenski, all of Utah; his mother, Celia Sevenski of Elmira. He is the grandfather of Tray and Amy-Jo Sevenski, Allen, Justin, Kyle and Ryan Fouts, Jared, Tyler, and Jori Potter, and Jazzimine, Hunter, and Elizabeth Sevenski. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Larry (Dorothy) Sevenski, Joan (Frank) Wasylewski, Rosemary (Tom) Dobrzelewski, Tony (Sally) Sevenski, Jim (Linda) Sevenski, Gloria Gray, Mike Sevenski, Pat (Debbie) Sevenski and Cecilia (Dan) Smith. He was preceded in death by his father Michael, his uncle Joe, and his nephew Lawrence Sevenski. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Cathedral, Fr. John McCracken officiating. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral home will take place on Sunday from 1-8 p.m., and at the church on Monday beginning at 10:00 a.m. He will be going home to his final resting place in Vernal, Utah, where he will be buried in Vernal cemetery. Pallbearers for his funeral will be Larry, Jim, Tony, and Pat Sevenski, Dan Smith, and Paul Scarberry, with honorary pallbearers being: Troy Edward Sevenski, Allen Edward Fouts, Justin Edward Fouts, Kyle Edward Fouts, Jared John Potter, Ryan Edward Fouts, Tyler John F. Potter, and Hunter Scott Sevenski. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cindy L. Fouts Memorial account for Edward S. Sevenski through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Mr. Richard Sova
Richard E. Sova, age 70 of Vanderbilt died Monday, Feb. 6th at his home. Mr. Sova was born on May 11, 1935 in Cheboygan, MI., and spent a good part of his life in the Mt. Clemens and Flint area, where he attended Flint Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Japan for a period of time. On Dec. 21, 1957 in Otter Lake, MI., he married the former Esther Harvey. He worked at the General Motors plant in Drayton Plains, and then moved to Vanderbilt in the 1970’s. He was instrumental in starting the Otsego Co. Bus System in the area, as well as being the manager, and also was a bank courier for Old Kent Bank. He was a member of the Gaylord Eagles #1825 for 35 years, the Indian River Sportsman Club, Holy Redeemer church, volunteered for RSVP driving the cancer bus, and helped build the memorial park in Vanderbilt. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing bingo. He is survived by his wife Esther, children, Richard Jr. of Vanderbilt, Lucinda (Richard) Piehl of Gaylord, Rebecca Sova of Gaylord, William (Judy) of Elmira, John Sova of Roscommon; grandchildren, Christopher Piehl, Chad (Farah) Piehl, Nicole Piehl, Amber (Jeff) McCarrick, Ronald (Judy) Moeggenberg, Savannah Lewis, Bryan, Jessica, and Jason Sova. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Ronald (Shirley) of Nevada, Ralph of California, Robert of Washington, Rowana Leach of South Branch, MI., Rodney (Debbie) of Otisville, Rita (Clinton) Gould of Davison, and Rick of Mt. Morris, and aunts Marie Vanttorn of Cheboygan and Helen Poisson of Flint. He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Clarabell Sova, and grandparents Elwin and Lucinda Barhite, and William and Mary Sova. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9th (time not yet confirmed) from the Nelson Funeral Home, Fr. John McCracken officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m., and on Thursday beginning at noon. Interment will be in the spring at Silver Lake cemetery in Wolverine. Mr. Marion L. Wheaton
Mr. Marion L. Wheaton, age 74 of Gaylord, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2006. He was born July 23, 1931 to Leonard and Helen (Hague) Wheaton in Addison. Marion was a United States Army veteran. In 1979, Mr. Wheaton moved to Gaylord and established his own construction company. He liked to hunt, fish, and cut wood and he enjoyed watching westerns and football. He especially treasured spending time with his grandchildren and following them in their school activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Helen (Hague) Wheaton, and sister-in-law, Ellen Wheaton. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marcia; daughter, Connie (Dave, Jr.) Stubli; son, Tim (Nikki); four grandchildren, Kyle, Dana, and Ashley Stubli and Rachel Wheaton; brothers and sisters, Doris (Dale) Hawes, Martha (Wendell) Myers, James, Howard (Lucy), Geri (George) Heeman, and Nelson (Anita). FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 12:00 noon from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, Rev. Jim Mathis officiating. Burial will take place in the spring at Hayes Twp. cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Friday 2-8 PM and on Saturday from 11 AM to 12 noon. Ms. Whitney Cerak
Whitney Erin Cerak, age 18 of Gaylord died in a tragic car accident Wednesday, April 26, 2006 in Marion, Indiana. She was born in Muncie, IN on April 29, 1987 to Newell and Colleen Cerak. She lived a wonderful, full, but short life. She attended Gaylord Community Schools from kindergarten to 12th grade where she made many friends and endeared herself to all. She was very active in sports, student government and the E-Free Youth Group. She was currently a freshman at Taylor University where she was growing in love and knowledge of her friend and Savior Jesus Christ. She is now living with Him in heaven. She is survived by her parents Newell and Colleen Cerak, sister Carly, “sister” Sandra and many relatives. Funeral Services for Whitney will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 3PM from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be on Saturday at the Nelson Funeral Home from 3-8 PM and on Sunday at the church from 2 PM until the time of services. Mrs. Janet Faye Dwyer
Janet Faye Dwyer passed away peacefully on February 10, 2006, under the loving care of the staff at McReynolds Hall, Otsego Memorial Hospital, Gaylord, Michigan, following a valiant struggle with cancer. She was born April 28, 1938 near Curtis, Michigan the daughter of James and Bernice (LaBar) Dwyer. She attended school in Curtis and graduated from Engadine High School in 1956. She completed nurse aide training and worked at Tahquamenon General Hospital in Newberry for several years before moving to Gaylord where she was employed at Alpine Center for about ten years. For the past twenty-five years, she lovingly cared for four handicapped foster children in her home. In her youth, Janet became a member of the Wildwood Mennonite Church. Due to her life situation, she was unable to attend church regularly over the years. However, she always felt a close and loving relationship to the Wildwood Church family. In her final days she repeatedly expressed to her loving caregivers, family, and friends, her complete assurance and peace with God. Janet will be long remembered for her creativity, spontaneity, wit, her pampered cats and most of all, for her generosity and total loyalty to her family and many friends. Janet was predeceased by her parents, her brother, James Dwyer Jr. and her sister, Patricia Schwartz. Survivors include her sisters, Anita (Chris) Wickey and Virginia Dwyer both of Engadine, sisters-in-law, Marian (James Jr.) Dwyer of Waynesville, MO, a bother-in-law, Simon Schwartz of Pickford, nephews, Michael (Anita) Dwyer, Timothy (Denise) Schwartz, Matthew Wickey, nieces, Gloria (Donald) Thomson, Gail Dodds, Colleen (Michael) Mason, Yvonne (Paul) Gorton, Jennifer (Tom) Hill, Patricia (Robert) Voyles, Julie Schwartz, Linnea (Roland) Betker, Anne (Michael) Babinsky, Wendi Schwartz, as well as numerous grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Funeral Services will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at the Wildwood Mennonite Church, Portage Twp., near Curtis, Michigan. Visitation will be held 5pm to 7pm Monday, February 13, 2006, at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord. Interment will take place at Sandtown cemetery in the spring. Memorials contributions may be made to Friends For Life to benefit the local animal shelter, or to McReynolds Hall, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord, Michigan 49734.

Mrs. Rosemary A. Abate
Rosemary A. Abate, age 64 of Barbeau and formerly of Gaylord died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Hospice House in Cheboygan. She was born on August 23, 1941 in Caro, where she was raised. In 1963 she married Walter L. Abate and in 1969 the couple moved to Gaylord. They lived in Gaylord for 28 years before moving to Barbeau. Mrs. Abate was preceded in death by her daughter Cathy Abate and her sister Lorna. She is survived by her husband, Walter; her children, Michael Cash of Cheboygan, and Linda Wojtasiak of Milwaukee, WI; 2 grandchildren, Kelsey and Erin Wojtasiak; her mother, Beatrice Merryman of Plymouth; and brother, Bill Aman. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Monday, July 10, 2006 at 2:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will follow at Hallock cemetery in Elmira Twp. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House in Cheboygan, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Mr. Conrad A. Blanzy
Conrad A. Blanzy, age 71 of Gaylord died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at his home. He was born in Detroit on June 9, 1935 and was raised in the Detroit area. He later moved to West Bloomfield for 27 years and taught in the Southfield Public School system. He also lived in Onaway for short time before moving to Gaylord in 1994. After retiring from teaching, Conrad created a life with Joan on the Aftermath Ranch, “The 80”. There he continued his love of gardening, fishing, hunting, golfing, and many other activities. Although his hobbies remained close to his heart, his family was always the most important. He was continually developing his friendships, where many friends became like family. Conrad’s faith was as everlasting as our many fond memories of him. In all the pain, his faith in our Lord is a great model for how we all wish to live. His passion to live life to the fullest has touched all that have known and loved him. He will be greatly remembered. Conrad was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish, a 4th degree member of St. Mary Knights of Columbus and a retired member of the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 11:30 AM from St. Mary Cathedral, Rev. John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery in Gaylord. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 PM and at the church on Thursday beginning at 10:30 AM. St. Mary Altar Rosary Society will offer a rosary Wednesday afternoon at 4 PM and St. Mary Knights of Columbus will offer a rosary Wednesday evening at 7 PM. Conrad is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, James (Jackie) of White Lake, Mary (Bob) Billman of Kentwood, Michael (Barbara) of Gaylord, Rose (Kraig) Love of Dewitt, and Catherine (Rick) Muzyl of Sparr; grandchildren, Heather, Gus, Christina, Bobby, Richard, Matthew, Jeremy Kathy and Mark; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, William, Jason and Jistien; and one brother, Jim (Carol) Blanzy of Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or to St. Joseph Church Building Fund in Port Aransas Texas, through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.

Miss Dorothy Borowiak
Dorothy Borowiak, age 85 of Gaylord, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006. She was born in Otsego County on September 23, 1920 to Vincent and Katherine (Nowaczyk) Borowiak. Dorothy was one of eight children and lived in the Gaylord area all her life. Over the years she worked at such places as Rendevous, Al’s Drug Store, and the Stage Coach Inn. She was involved in the Eagles Auxillary and was a very social person. She liked entertaining, polka dancing, and being with family. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Andy, Celia Laboda, and Harry. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Elizabeth Bednariak of St. Louis, Ann (Al “Bob”) Kassuba of Gaylord, Alex of Gaylord, and Vic (Darlene) of Gaylord; and many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord, Father John McCracken, officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection cemetery. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord will be held on Thursday from 3-8 PM and at the church on Friday beginning at 10 AM. A parish rosary will be offered Thursday evening at 4PM. Mrs. Pamela Cozart
Pamela Cozart, 59 of Crystal River, FL, and summer resident of Gaylord, Michigan died July 10, 2006 in Gaylord. She was born on Oct 17, 1946 in Flint, Michigan. She was a member of the Nature Coast Retreads motorcycle club. Mrs. Cozart is survived by her husband John; children, Kimberly (Curtis) Banks of Flint, MI, Arthur (Carrie) Lucas of Montrose, MI, and Paula Lucas of Florida; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; step-son, Richard Woods of Louisiana; and brother, Barry (Alma) Weaks of California. Mr. Charles F. Fishbeck
Charles F. Fishbeck, age 75, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born on August 2, 1930 in Alma where he was raised. Mr. Fishbeck was an Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. He attended Ferris State College and lived in the Saginaw/Midland area for several years. In 1979 the Gaylord area became the Fishbeck’s permanent home. Mr. Fishbeck was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved animals and was an avid sports fan including skiing, golf and fishing. Charles Fishbeck is survived by his wife, Valarie; children, Greg (Becky) of Gaylord, Nancy (Ted) Kiesling of Kalamazoo, Michael of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Lauren, Hannah, and Ryan Kiesling; brother, Dr. William (Ellie) Fishbeck of Traverse City; sister, Ruth (Lee) Zinn of Alma; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog Lucy. Charles is preceded in death by his brother Richard Fishbeck and sister-in-law Susan Fishbeck. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile officiating. Burial will be in Otsego Lake Twp. cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Mr. Harry W. Fox
Harry W. Fox, age 86 of Gaylord died at his home on Saturday, July 22, 2006. He was born in Highland Park the son of Vincent and Anna (Fitch) Fox on November 27, 1919, and was a former Oakland County resident. Mr. Fox was a member of the Vanderbilt Community Church. He enjoyed bird watching and woodworking and loved to hunt and fish. On May 29, 1941 in Detroit he married the former Lillian Knoph, who survives. He is also survived by three children, Thomas H. (Sharon) Fox of Wixom, Barbara J. (Patrick) Martino of California, Joanne K. Hull of Peoria, AZ; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Fox of South Branch; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Fox was preceded in death by his son Richard W. Fox, two sisters and one brother. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the Vanderbilt Community Church, Pastor Joe Vondoloski, officiating. Friends may gather with the family at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Mrs. Sally M. Gamblin
Sally M. Gamblin, age 84 of Gaylord died Thursday, July 27, 2006. She was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee on May 19, 1922. She worked as a nurse aide at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital for several years and had been living in Gaylord the past 19 years. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Truman. Her daughter, Kathleen (Gene) Swartz; granddaughters, Jackie (Kent) Churches, Diane Lehman; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her daughter Annette Keck in 1945, her grandson Mike Marshall in 1978, and her former husband Herbert Keck. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association through the Nelson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1548, Gaylord MI 49734.
