DEAN C. BURKHARDT

Saline

Dean C. Burkhardt, 82, of Saline died Oct. 2, 2006. He was born Jan. 22, 1924, the son of Alwin R. and Lina A. (Bredernitz) Burkhardt.

Mr. Burkhardt was a 1941 graduate of Saline High School. He served three years during World War II as a high-speed Morse code radio operator, initially with the Army Signal Corps. For the final seven months he was attached to the Navy in the Pacific Theater as a radioman aboard a destroyer.

On Sept. 20, 1947, he married Agnes Wallo in Saline, and she survives.

Upon graduating from Cleary Business College in 1947, Mr. Burkhardt was employed by Hoover Ball and Bearing Co. in Ann Arbor. After a 32-year career in which the company grew from a single location to more than 60 locations in the United States, Canada, England and Spain, he retired from Hoover Universal Inc. Jan. 31, 1980, as its corporate controller.

In addition to his wife, Agnes, of 59 years, survivors include a daughter, Sharon (Matthew) Mischakoff of Saline; a son, Glenn (Cindy) Burkhardt of Clinton; grandsons Derek (Samantha) McGill, Sean McGill, Ian (Jamie) Charles, Leonard (Jennifer) Hackett Jr., Alex Hackett, and Landon Burkhardt; a granddaughter, Amber Burkhardt; step-granddaughters Marah (Patrick Avallone) Mischakoff, Veronica (Tim) Malinczak and Valerie Wahl; a step-grandson, Joseph Wahl; great-grandsons Jared McGill, Easton Charles and Waylon Charles; a step-great-grandson, Caleb Mischakoff; a great-granddaughter, Natalie McGill; a step-great-granddaughter, Hailey Malinczak; a sister, Della Sell; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Ann (Leonard) Hackett; and a brother-in-law, Robert Sell.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline. A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. William Natsis and Mark Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery in Saline.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline or Arbor Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline, where friends began calling Wednesday.

JOHN ALBERT TEWSLEY

Milan

John Albert Tewsley, 67, died Oct. 6, 2006, at his home in Milan following a lengthy illness. At the time of his death, he was comforted by his wife, Marcia (Ellsworth) Tewsley, of 41 years.

Mr. Tewsley was born and raised in Detroit, raised his own family in Ransomville, N.Y., and spent the last few years of his life in Centerline, Las Vegas and Milan.

He was a self-employed upholsterer for more than 30 years, often being called upon by his friends and neighbors. He spent the last few years of employment with Art Van Furniture in Warren.

Mr. Tewsley's home was always open to family and friends who needed a roof over their heads or food in their stomachs. He always said, "We can always throw another potato in the pot."

Mr. Tewsley believed that his greatest accomplishment in life were his three sons and four grandchildren. He could often be spotted around Milan taking his grandchildren for rides on his motorized scooter.

Mr. Tewsley was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Beatrice (Quick) Tewsley; his sisters, Marie Plouffe and Jackie Thomas; his father-in-law, Arthur Ellsworth; and his brother-in-law, Doug Ellsworth.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Alan and Barb Tewsley of Youngstown, N.Y., John and Jill Tewsley of Milan, and Kenneth Tewsley of Lewiston, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Jack Harrison Tewsley, Juila Renee Tewsley, Maxine Eleanor Tewsley and Alden Ellsworth Tewsley; his sisters, Shirley Schneider, Norma (Ralph) Scianimanico and Barbara (Ken) Raymond; his sister-in-law, Dawn (Tom) Linton; and many nieces and nephews.

WILMA ANNA CAMBURN

Chelsea

Formerly of Saline

Wilma Anna Camburn, 86, died Oct. 8, 2006, at Towsley Village in Chelsea, where she had lived since May. She was born Dec. 14, 1919, on the Ellsworth Road family farm in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Ruben and Clara (Hartman) Bredernitz.

Mrs. Camburn attended the Dole School and graduated fromSaline High School in 1937. On Nov. 14, 1941, she married George F. Camburn of Saline. He preceded her in death Sept. 6, 2003. She was an Ypsilanti State Hospital retiree.

She is survived by her three sons; James F. (Eleanor) of St. John's, Steven K. (Nancy) of Macon and Keith E. of Gastonia, N.C.; grandchildren, Mike (Terri), Jenny, and Sara; great-granddaughter, Zoe Camburn; a brother, Ormand Bredernitz of Saline; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rubena (Rae) Hunt of Saline and Marion (John) Anderson of Ann Arbor.

Mrs. Camburn was a lifelong member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saline. She loved to travel to Europe, collect carpet beaters, quilt, knit, tat, bake pies, especially rhubarb, and tend her beautiful flower garden.

She was extremely proud of the wonderful quilts she made for her family. She, like her husband, loved to gamble in Las Vegas and Mount Pleasant. Putting coins into slot machines and making knuffles were two things she did very fast and well. She and her lebkuchen (which were the finest ever made, her family said) will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Following cremation, she will be buried next to her husband in a private ceremony in the Macon cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of the HomeInstead office in Adrian and Towsley Village in Chelsea.

PAULINE COATES-STOCKHOLM

Winter Haven, Fla.

Formerly of Saline

Pauline Coates-Stockholm, 87, of Winter Haven, Fla., formerly of Saline died of pulmonary fibrosis on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 in Winter Haven.

She was born in March 11, 1919, in Saline one of twins to Amanda Sturm Rogers and Roy Rogers, both of Saline. She was a Michigander for many years with extended family in the Ann Arbor area before moving to Flushing in the early 1960s.

In 1940, Mrs. Coates-Stockholm graduated from Michigan State Normal College, now Eastern Michigan University. She taught in Onekama, in 1940, Saline Public Schools from 1943 to 1952, Lincoln Consolidated Schools in Willis from 1953 to 1963 and Beecher Public Schools from 1963 to 1975.

Mrs. Coates-Stockholm took many advanced college classes to allow her to become a supervisory student teacher and reading educational specialist. As an educator, she touched the lives of many young students, including having her two daughters as students.

Mrs. Coates-Stockholm played piano and organ, loved family gatherings, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in bowling and golf. She was creative in the kitchen, and left her children and friends with many great recipes. She was a talented crafter, knitter, tatter and seamstress.

Mrs. Coates-Stockholm was active in neighborhood Methodist church with her last membership in the First United Methodist Church of Haines City, Fla.

She was a devoted wife to Randall F. Coates, who preceded her passing.

Mrs. Coates-Stockholm is survived by her husband, Earle Stockholm of Winter Haven; a son, Roger (Ruth) Coates of Paw Paw.; two daughters, Carol (Ken) Jesmore of Sausalito, Calif., and Susan Orenstein of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; a brother, Paul Rogers of Ann Arbor; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Saline at a later date.

HARRIETTE MARIE SEMARK

Ann Arbor

Harriette Marie (Clement) Semark of Ann Arbor died Oct. 3, 2006, as a result of cancer complications. She was born June 18, 1934, in Ann Arbor to Henry and Marion (Fisher) Clement, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Semark married Richard Semark March 3, 1956, at Westside United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, where they had been longtime members. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in March of this year.

Mrs. Semark was very supportive of the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother, and leaves her husband, Richard; children, Bradley (Catherine) Semark, Lori (Matt) Phillips and Karen (Todd) Strohl; grandchildren, Joshua, Marissa, Rachel, Craig, Shelby and Shannon; siblings, Shirley (Arthur) Dersham, Douglas (Charlene) Clement and Norma (Howard) Weaver; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held Monday at Westside United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor. Visitation was Sunday at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

MARJORIE E. ROGERS

Saline

Marjorie E. (Kendall) Rogers, 91, of Saline died Oct. 5, 2006, with family at her bedside. She was born April 5, 1915, in Sharon Township to Laura and Clifford Kendall.

On June 7, 1934, she married Duane R. Rogers of Saline. He preceded her in death June 6, 2004.

Mrs. Rogers had made her home on the family farm off Saline-Milan Road for the past 72 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Rogers-Ewald (Robert), and three sons, Kendall D. (Nancy) Rogers of Saline, Ronald E. (Judy) Rogers of Wellfleet, Neb., and William L. (Cora "Corky") Rogers of Saline.

Mrs. Rogers leaves behind eight grandchildren. One grandson, Keith Rogers, preceded her in death in 1987.

She also leaves 17 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

Her cousin Gert "Art" Fehr also survives.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen (Kendall) Cornwell of Kalamazoo, and two brothers, Kenneth Kendall of Jackson and Ronald Kendall or Sharon Township.

A niece, Janis (Cornwell) Whitcomb also preceded her in death.

Visitation took place Monday at York Baptist Church in Milan.

A funeral was held Tuesday at York Baptist Church, with longtime friend and pastor the Rev. David Grinnell officiating.

Burial was in the Oakwood cemetery in Saline.

Memorial contributions may be made to York Baptist Church or to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice.

Arrangements were by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.

MARILYNN E. (JANTZ) TRINKLEIN

Formerly of Saline

Marilynn E. (Jantz) Trinklein, 69, formerly of Saline, died unexpectedly, but peacefully Oct. 8, 2006, at her home. She was born Dec. 20, 1936, in Monroe, and was raised in Saline.

Mrs. Trinklein survived childhood polio and breast cancer later in life.

She volunteered at the library, and was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. She also volunteered at the church book store and at the school library.

Mrs. Trinklein was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Washington Society and the Bridgeport Eagles. She loved dancing and working with animals.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra (Mike) Schubert of Spring Lake and Brenda (Thomas) Bluem of Freeland.; a son, Randy (Janice) Trinklein of Frankenmuth; eight grandchildren, Erik and Tina Schubert, Lisa, Brian and Kendra Aven and Cory, Morgan and Randon Trinklein; and a loving companion, Gary Weess.

She was predeceased by a brother, Nelson Jantz.

A funeral will be held 10:15 a.m. Friday at Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N Franklin St., and 11 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.

Burial will take place at St. Lorenz Lutheran cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to the time of service Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lorenz Lutheran School Library.
