Leo A. DuCharme

Milan

Leo A. DuCharme, 87, of ilan died Monday, Sept.19, 2005.

He was born July 1, 1918 in Deerfield, Mich. Leo retired from the residential building trades in 1984 and moved to Englewood, Florida.

Survivors include: his wife, Helen (Guy); son, Thomas of Brighton; daughter, Joyce Marcinko of Englewood, Fla.; brothers Earl of Sylvania, Ohio; Grant of Brighton; David of Milan; grandchildren, Amy (DuCharme) Knickerbocker of Pinckney; Jeffrey DuCharme of Allendale, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Jacob Knickerbocker, Zachary and Audrey DuCharme. A sister, Gloria Dempsey preceded him in death.

Burial was held at the Marble Park cemetery.

Theodore E. Toth (Ted)

Saline

Theodore E. Toth (Ted) passed away on Sept. 28, 2005, following an extensive and brave journey with cancer.

Ted was born in Detroit on Nov. 23, 1936, to Irene and Steve Toth, both of whom have predeceased him. In 1956, he graduated from Southwestern High School, Detroit. He attended Washtenaw Community College, and was a Journeyman Pipefitter. He worked at General Motors Willow Run for 37 years. He served for 11 years with the Michigan Air National Guard. On Feb. 13, 1960, he was married to Rose Carol Babjak, and they began their life together in Saline, the community he loved and in which he played an active part.

Ted is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rose Carol, and their four special children: Susan (Laurence) Bernard, Douglas (Sue) Toth, Peggy (David) Galimberti, and Karen (Steven) Climer. Ted is also survived by his very beloved grandchildren: Andy and Anjela Galimberti, Melaina and Brooklyn Climer, and Joseph, Daniel and Michael Toth. He also leaves his brother, Robert (Rose) Toth to mourn his passing. Ted was a member and elder at St Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, a Life Member of Saline Area Players, and a watercolor artist. Ted found much joy working with the Saline Celtic Festival for 10 years, in charge of the sets/scenic backdrops. He was on the Brecon Village Condo Board since moving there in 1999. Ted was an avid Michigan football fan.

A memorial service and celebration of Ted's life will be held at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 122 W. Michigan Ave., on Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. with visitation from 3-4 p.m. preceding the service.

Jack A. Moreau

Saline

Jack A. Moreau, 78, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 at the St. Joseph Mercy Saline Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Aug. 8, 1927 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada, the son of Edward and Margaret (Patterson) Moreau. He had been a Saline resident since 1970. On Nov. 26, 1968 in Brighton, he married Susan Spears, and she survives. Jack had been a member of the Canadian Army and had been self-employed as a steel broker for many years. He continued his employment at Ford Motor Co. for more than 23 years in quality control until his retirement in 1993.

Survivors include: his wife, Susan P. Moreau of Saline; one daughter, Summer Ann (Doug) Franklin of Temecula, Calif.; two grandchildren, MacKenzie and Hannah Franklin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Martin "Marty" Ivan

Britton

Martin "Marty" Ivan, 88, of Britton, died Oct. 10, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor.

He was born Oct. 13, 1916 in South Rockwood, the son of Martin and Marie (Sycel) Ivan. On May 17, 1941, he married Blanche Cevora in Monroe. She survives.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Britton area and grew certified seed for the State of Michigan along with his son, brother and nephew. He served on the Britton-Macon School Board and was a charter member of the American-Bohemian Club. He was also a member of I.O.O.F., Britton Chapter, and an avid bowler. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and an enthusiastic sports fan.

In addition to his wife, Blanche, he is survived by his son, Kenneth (Shirley) Ivan of Britton; three daughters, Donna (Jerry) Benedict of Hartselle, Ala., Dianne (Ronald) Szymanski of Tecumseh, and Dennise (David) Grinnell of Cheboygan; 13 grandchildren: Wendy (Shane) Wiggins of Hartsell, Ala., Timothy Benedict of Decatur, Ala., Jessica (Loyd) Pitts of Decatur, Nicholas Ivan of Britton, Jennifer (Denver) Parker of Clayton, Kelly (Michael) Tighe of Fresno, Cal. Kari (Andrew) Cislo of Milan, Renata (Eric) Halverstadt of Tecumseh, Selena (Jeff) Southwell of Hudson, Ryan (Vicki) Szymanski of Tecumseh, Ryan (Angela) Grinnell of Mt. Pleasant, Andrew (Krystn) Grinnell of Lake Odessa, and Benjamin Grinnell at Saginaw Valley State Univ.; 21 great-grandchildren; and a special family, Vojta and Mana Studnicka, and their children, Petr, Irene, and Kamil (Ronald).

Also surviving is his brother, Anthony (Stella) Ivan of Britton and his sister Lillian Dennard of Allen Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Becker, and brother, Henry Ivan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, with Rev. David Welcome officiating. Interment will follow at Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Muriel Marie Chance

Ann Arbor

Muriel Marie Chance, 86, of Ann Arbor died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 at the Evangelical Home of Saline surrounded by her family.

She was born Muriel Marie Martin in Chelsea on Jan. 6, 1919, the daughter of Elsa and Edward Martin. Muriel spent her early years in Chelsea and most of her adult life in Ann Arbor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Chance, who died on March 22, 1997 and her son, U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Michael J. Wallace, MIA Vietnam on April 19, 1968.

Muriel was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, her faith in God, working with pottery, the challenge of crossword puzzles, playing gin rummy and tomato sandwiches. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and is survived by her children, Eric (Sandra) Dunkel of Ann Arbor, Mary (Charles) Niethammer of Saline, Susan Bycraft of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Kathryn (Christopher) Bouchard of Brooklyn, Mich.; grandchildren, Shelley (Steven) Kasper, Erica Dunkel, Paul Salyer, Lisa (Andrew) Sieczka, William (Jackie) Bycraft, Rebecca (Karl) Schook, Michael (Marsha) Bycraft, Julie Bouchard, and Daniel Bouchard, great-grandchildren, Angela Morgan and Ashley Kasper, Drew and Baby Girl Sieczka (due this month), Allison Shock, and Carly Schook. Also surviving are her sisters, Lucille Martin and Arlene Larson, both of Chelsea. At Muriel's request, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Silver Maples in Chelsea, where she lived for the past several years, and also expresses special appreciation to the entire staff at the Evangelical Home of Saline for the exceptional care given to Muriel during her final days. HELEN McGAULEY

Birmingham

Helen M. (nee McGraw) McGauley, 91, of Birmingham, formerly of Royal Oak., died Oct. 7, 2006.

She was the beloved wife of the late Leo J.; dear mother of Mary Kay Heintz (Kevin), James L., Robert J. and Patricia Everett (David); grandmother of Michael Heintz (Kathi), Colleen Dillon (Patrick), Patti Sunne (Charlie), Mary Megan, Brian and Christopher Heintz. Jeff Everett (Betsy), Bobby, Amanda, Sarah, Joey and Emily Everett; and great-grandmother of Kevin, Julia, Amma, Thomas, Jacob and Luke Heintz, Morgan Dillon, Matthew, Elizabeth and Caitlin Sunne.

Services have been held. Memorial contributions may be made to Beaumont Hospice, 3601 13 Mile Road, Royal Oak, Mich., 48073.

JOHN ALBERT TEWSLEY

Milan

John Albert Tewsley, 67, died Oct. 6, 2006, at his home in Milan following a lengthy illness. At the time of his death, he was comforted by his wife, Marcia (Ellsworth) Tewsley, of 41 years.

Mr. Tewsley was born and raised in Detroit, raised his own family in Ransomville, N.Y., and spent the last few years of his life in Centerline, Las Vegas and Milan.

He was a self-employed upholsterer for more than 30 years, often being called upon by his friends and neighbors. He spent the last few years of employment with Art Van Furniture in Warren.

Mr. Tewsley's home was always open to family and friends who needed a roof over their heads or food in their stomachs. He always said, "We can always throw another potato in the pot."

Mr. Tewsley believed that his greatest accomplishment in life were his three sons and four grandchildren. He could often be spotted around Milan taking his grandchildren for rides on his motorized scooter.

Mr. Tewsley was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Beatrice (Quick) Tewsley; his sisters, Marie Plouffe and Jackie Thomas; his father-in-law, Arthur Ellsworth; and his brother-in-law, Doug Ellsworth.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Alan and Barb Tewsley of Youngstown, N.Y., John and Jill Tewsley of Milan, and Kenneth Tewsley of Lewiston, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Jack Harrison Tewsley, Juila Renee Tewsley, Maxine Eleanor Tewsley and Alden Ellsworth Tewsley; his sisters, Shirley Schneider, Norma (Ralph) Scianimanico and Barbara (Ken) Raymond; his sister-in-law, Dawn (Tom) Linton; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and funeral services were held in Lewiston, N.Y.

Dennis L. Tommelein

Saline

Dennis L. Tommelein, age 57, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 27, 1948 in Ann Arbor, the son of Morris and Marie (Heiden) Tommelein. He was a member of St. Kenneth's Catholic Church in Plymouth, Mich., retired engineer from General Motors, and an Army veteran.

Survivors include: his loving fiancee, Rebecca Figura; two daughters, Anne Marie (Mike) Nower of Kalamazoo and Julie Ann Tommelein of Oregon; two granddaughters, Haleigh Jo and Allison Marie Nower; one brother, William (Dianna) Tommelein of Saline; and two nieces, Deborah and Christina, and their families.

Dennis was a loving and proud father and grandfather. He delighted in his granddaughters and enjoyed spending time with all of his family and extended family from Pennsylvania. He enjoyed traveling and reading, and everyone benefited from his knowledge and wisdom. His hope and optimism inspired everyone that he ever met. He has touched so many lives and will be missed dearly. His parents preceded him in death.

Burial took place in the Oakwood cemetery in Saline.

Stephen Skipski

Saline

Stephen Skipski, age 73, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ypsilanti.

He was born Dec. 23, 1931 in Maple City, Mich., the son of William and Helen (Woswowski) Skipski. He had been a teacher for many years in the public school system.

Survivors include: one daughter, Julia (Steve) Mayer of Saline; one son, Todd (Lisa) Skipski of Commerce Township; three grandchildren, Cal and Abbey Mayer, and Felicia Duffiney; four brothers and sisters, Roman (Joan), Proxes (Stan), Irene, Catherine, and sister-in-law, Jean, and their families. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Irene Doughty

Milan

Irene Doughty, age 91, died Oct. 27, 2005 at Saline Evangelical Home.

She was born Sept. 28, 1914 in Fairfield, Iowa to Louis and Elsie (Ruby) Keller. Irene married Asher Mullenix, and he preceded her in death in 1961. She then married John Doughty and he died in 1992. Her parents, a brother, a sister, grandchild and great grandchild also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Doughty retired from Argus Cameras in 1975, was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Rebekah Lodge of Milan.

Survivors include: a daughter, Marjorie Ernst of Milan; two sons, John Richard Doughty of Nevada and Robert Doughty of Florida; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Erma Stickradt; and one brother, Vernon (Hazel) Keller.

Visitation was held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan, with a funeral Mass on Monday, Oct. 31 at Immaculate Conception. Burial followed in Marble Park cemetery.
