KENNETH G. VOLZ SR.
Saline
Kenneth G. Volz Sr., 86, of Saline died Sept. 22, 2007, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Ann Arbor, the son of Christian and Lydia (Visel) Volz.
On Oct. 11, 1941, he married
Katherine Marken and she preceded him in death Jan. 10, 2000. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Mary Hocking, and she survives.
Mr. Volz was a member of the Christ Our King Lutheran Church and Tri-County Sportsmenís Club. He loved music all of his life and was lead singer, played the sax, and was a member of the Rhythmaires, Geriatric Four, and the Luke Schaible Band.
Mr. Volz worked for many years at the Uniloy Co. until his retirement.
He will be greatly missed by his family, his many friends and many of the squirrels in Saline. He was also the greatest grandpa, and best fishing buddy, as well as a true blue Michigan fan.
Survivors include Mary Hocking; daughter Beth Spatz of Cincinnati; daughter-in-law Carolyn Volz of Elk Rapids; grandchildren, Shannon (Bob) Bohl of Fort Collins, Colo., Nikki (Jamie) Wilkins of Traverse City, Lacy (Chris) Lowry of Castle Rock, Colo., Ryan (Kylene) Volz of Holt, Gillian Spatz of Nashville, Tenn., and Jonathan Spatz of Tempe, Ariz.; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Katherine; his son, Kenneth G. Volz Jr.; and one sister, Frances Volz.
Before the memorial service, private burial took place Wednesday. The service was held at the Christ Our King Lutheran Church of Saline. The Rev. Thomas Schroeder officiated.

LOLA A. DELL
Saline
Lola A. Dell, 67, of Saline died Sept. 27, 2007, at Saline Evangelical Home. She was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Saline, to Lloyd and Luella (Burkhardt) Dell and retired from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as a laboratory clerk.
Ms. Dell was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline, where she taught Sunday school for 50 years. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 322 (Lutz)-Saline, the Tops Club for several years and volunteered at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor for over 25 years.
Survivors include her brother, Richard (Barbara) Dell of DuBois, Ind.; a sister, Beatrice LeBlanc of Deux Montagnes, Canada; one niece; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Saline. Private interment will be at Oakwood cemetery in Saline.

RICHARD LEE MARTIN
Clayton
Richard Lee Martin, 81, of Clayton died peacefully Sept. 28, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 15, 1926, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Harry Haddie and Hester (Redding) Martin. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Martin married
Mary Lou Gall Jan. 28, 1977, and she survives. He was a member of Weston United Methodist Church and Crossroads Community Church. He also owned and operated Marco Products, retiring in 1999.
Mr. Martin enjoyed bowling and golf. He was a member of the Hole-in-One Club at Wolf Creek Golf Club. He also enjoyed horses and attended horse shows with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Martin of Three Rivers and Jeffrey Martin of Texas; one daughter, Cynthia Martin of Dallas; two step-daughters, Jennifer Case of Clayton and Jayne Fincher of Kansas City, Kansas; a stepbrother, Leonard Martin of California; a half-brother, Bill Martin of Florida; five grandchildren, Justin, Katie, Sammy, Sarah and Kim; one great-grandchild on the way; and five step-grandchildren, Angie, Jacob, Samantha, Anthony and Nicholas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepbrother, Harry, and a half-sister, Shirley.
At Mr. Martin's request, cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian. The Revs. Doug Winters and Mark Smith will officiate.
Burial of cremains will be in Sand Creek cemetery with full military rites conducted by the VFW. Annis-Fint Post 1584.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, as well as 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home.

WILLIAM G. SNYDER
Findlay, Ohio
William G. Snyder, 90, of Findlay, Ohio, died Sept. 26, 2007, at The Heritage, Findlay. He was born March 11, 1917, to the late William and Jean (Forton) Snyder. He married
Dorothy Wolford Aug. 3, 1946, and she survives him.
Mr. Snyder was a draftsman for General Motors Corp. before serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He then worked as a draftsman and retired from Uniloy Corp. in Saline.
Mr. Snyder is survived by his daughters, Karen (Harold) Heck of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Kathryn (Lance) Belleau of Findlay; grandchildren, Aaron Heck, Lynn Heck, Christopher Heck and Beth Gietzel-Cruz; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. All services will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in his memory.

MILDRED A. BROWN
Saline
Formerly of Milan
Mildred A. Brown, 84, of Saline, formerly of Milan, died Sept. 29, 2007, at Saline Evangelical Home. She was born April 2, 1923, in Port Huron to Milton and Lila (Mathewson) Purkey.
On Feb. 14, 1942, she married
Paul Brown in Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brown was the first female corrections officer at FCI-Milan, serving from 1943 to 1944. She also was a devoted homemaker, dedicated to her family and enjoyed crafting.
Survivors include four children, Judith (Tim) Boyle, Kenneth (Marti), Richard (Tayna) and Douglas (Marlene); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a cousin, James Oliver.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
Visitation was Wednesday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan.
A funeral will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery in Milan.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary 268 scholarship fund.
BETTY J. DERBY
Milan
Betty J. Derby, 79, of Milan died Sept. 30, 2007, at University Hospitals.
She is survived by six children, Richard (Cynthia), Sharon (William) Bush, Rickie (Donna), Harry Jr. (Esther Torres), Karen Derby and John (Jennifer); 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, and two brothers.
Visitation was held Wednesday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery.

AUREL TRIPON
Dearborn
Aurel Tripon, 81, of Dearborn died Nov. 23, 2006. He spent his last days at his youngest daughter's home in Saline.
He was the father of Lucia Singh, Cornel Tripon, Julia Tarlea, Marius Tripon and Carmen Leonte, and grandfather of 11.
Mr. Tripon was a 30-year member of First Romanian Pentecostal Church.
Visitation was Saturday and services were held Sunday at the John N. Santeiu and Son Funeral Home.
Burial was at Oakwood cemetery in Saline.
LORENZ F. WACKENHUT
Chelsea
Lorenz F. Wackenhut, 81, of Chelsea, died suddenly Nov. 27, 2006, in his home. He was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Bridgewater Township, the son of Frederick and Clara (Sodt) Wackenhut.
Mr. Wackenhut, who was also known by the nicknames "Wacky" and "Red, " was a loving father and husband. He worked for K&W equipment in Manchester and for Bob Bauer in Chelsea, but his greatest pride was working for many years with his son, Paul, in the excavating business.
Mr. Wackenhut played fast-pitch softball for many years and, during his last years of playing, pitched for Zion Lutheran Church, where he was a member. He was best known in the 1970s and '80s for his band The Roamers.
Mr. Wackenhut loved fishing. His grandchildren were all dear to him. Grandson Jonathan fished, hunted and repaired everything with him.
On June 25, 1949, Mr. Wackenhut married
Gladys Sonja Weatherwax in Chelsea, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Michael (Melanie) of Ann Arbor and Paul (Janice Stevenson) of Chelsea; four daughters, Nola (Garry Klink) Freysinger of Chelsea, Janet (Daniel) Roberts of Cincinnati, Sharman (William) Pfaus of Westin, Fla., and Gail (Greg) Kuhl of Manchester; three sisters, Frieda Bishop, Ruth Brown and Helen Zill; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hulda Burns, and three brothers, John, Erwin and Rubin.
A funeral was held Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Rogers Corners. The Rev. Doris Sparks officiated. Burial followed at Zion Lutheran cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Cole Funeral Chapel.
