MACK KEVIN FOSTER

Milan

Mack Kevin Foster, 44, of Milan died Jan. 20, 2007, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born Oct. 3, 1962, in Ann Arbor to Mack and Elizabeth (Kosarue) Foster.

On Feb. 25, 1978, he married Lori Mabry, and she survives.

Mr. Foster had attended the Milan Area Schools. He enjoyed hunting. For the past 17 years, he was employed as a production technician.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Foster of Canton; children, Mack (Angie), Anthony (Jennifer) and Chanda (Mike Beaton) Foster, all of Milan; brothers, Irvin, Joseph (Debbie) of Willis and Timothy of Canton; sisters, Elizabeth (Dave) Curtiss of Milan and Sally (Will) Sanders of Canton; and eight grandchildren, Cody, Kaylynn, Hanna, Mason, Logan, Mackie, Destiny and Cameron.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation was held Monday and Tuesday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan. A funeral was held Wednesday. Burial was at Marble Park cemetery. Sign Mr. Foster's guestbook at ochalekstark.com.

EVELYN G. FARRINGTON

Grass Lake

Evelyn G. (Hill) Farrington, 85, of Grass Lake and Clinton died peacefully and without pain Jan. 17, 2007.

"Lewy Body dementia took so much from Mom, but she never lost her lovely, warm smile or her appreciation of a good joke, " her family said.

Mrs. Farrington was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents; and her four older siblings.

She is survived by her two children, David (Cheryl Palava) and Nancy (Steve) Camburn; sister-in-law, Cora Biddulph; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Farrington was born in East Tawas. She was a registered nurse, graduating from Hurley Hospital Nursing School in Flint. She also served proudly in the Writing Across the Curriculum movement, with its roots in England, during World War II.

The Farringtons raised their family in Ann Arbor. Before Mrs. Farrington's retirement from the Jackson County Medical Care Facility, the couple were proprietors of Dave's Bridgewater Inn for several years.

Upon her retirement, Mrs. Farrington was an original participant in an unprecedented research project regarding women's health issues directed by Harvard Medical School and Brigham Women's Hospital. Her participation with the project ended with her death.

"David and I would esecially like to thank Kathy Madden and her staff at Country Meadows Care Home and the staff of Tecumseh Place in Tecumseh for their kind and compassionate care provided to Evelyn all these years, " Cheryl Palava said.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc., P.O. Box 451429, Atlanta, GA, 31145.

In the spring, the family we will hold a memorial gathering. Arrangements were made by Borek Jennings Funeral Home.

LWENDY ELLEN SPRINKLES

Rockwood

Formerly of Milan

Wendy Ellen (Henry) Sprinkles, 38, of Rockwood, formerly of Milan, died Jan. 14, 2007.

She was the beloved wife of William, the loving mother of Zackary and Katelynn, the dear daughter of James and Dolores Henry, the cherished sister of Randy Henry, Brad (Alena) Henry and Irene (David) Taylor, and a wonderful aunt to several nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Sprinkles is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Scott Henry.

Mrs. Sprinkles was born July 23, 1968. She grew up in Milan and graduated from Milan High School in 1987.

Caring for her family, friends and neighbors was her first priority. She worked with Friends Who Care for several years. She loved to laugh and found delight in spending time with her loved ones. She will be deeply missed.

A funeral was held Friday at Michigan Memorial Funeral Home in Huron Township.

LESTER McCALLA

Manchester

Lester A. McCalla, 82, of Manchester died Jan. 15, 2007, after an extended illness. He was born July 20, 1924, in Ann Arbor, to Ruth (Spaulding) and Frank McCalla.

Mr. McCalla was a lifelong farmer, first in Pittsfield Township and then in Manchester. He was a member of the Michigan Pork Producers, the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau and the Manchester Fair Board.

He was survived by his children, Gordon (Michelle) McCalla and Mary Ann (Joe) Dettling of Manchester, and Karen McCalla of Oxnard, Calif.; two grandsons, Kevin (Jennifer) Dettling of Pinckney and Keith (Sarah) Dettling of Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Chase and Victoria Dettling of Jackson; a brother, Glen (Doris) McCalla of Ann Arbor; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell McCalla; and two sisters, Virginia Wiedmayer and Gertrude McCalla.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at the Sharon United Methodist Church, where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Carter Garrigues-Cortelyou will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family for future designation. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Jenter Chapel in Manchester, where the family received friends Wednesday.

JOSEPH BERNARD MASTERSON

Lake Barrington, Ill.

Joseph Bernard "Buddy" Masterson, 92, of Lake Barrington, Ill., formerly of Mound City, Ill., died at home Jan. 19, 2007, during his sleep after a brief illness. He was born May 18, 1914, in Mound City, Ill., to Thomas and Mary (Richardson) Masterson.

He married Eunice Lackey Dec. 12, 1945, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City. She preceded him in death Dec. 10, 2001.

Mr. Masterson graduated from Mound City High School in 1932. He retired in 1981 after a varied career that began in the Mound City shipyards in the 1930s and continued after World War II as an accountant for Packard, Ford and Curtis Wright in the 1950s, and Conductron in the 1960s.

In 1971, he and his late wife, Eunice Elaine Lackey Masterson, were sole proprietors of the Holly Inn Motel in South Haven. In 1981, he retired to Coloma, and moved to Lake Barrington, Ill., in 2001.

Mr. Masterson was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II as a lieutenant in the 477th Coastal Anti-Aircraft Artillery in the South Pacific. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years in Hazel Park and Saline.

Mr. Masterson was an avid hunter and fisherman. During his life, he was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Barrington, Ill.; St. Basil's Catholic Church in South Haven; St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline; and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mounds, Ill.

He is survived by three sons, Joseph (Bonnie) Masterson Jr. of Indianapolis, Thomas Masterson of Deerfield, Ill., and Bruce (Susan Bell) Masterson of Riverwoods, Ill.; three granddaughters, Theresa and Caryn Masterson and Jessica Bell-Masterson; and three grandsons, Patrick Masterson, Jason and Jordan Bell-Masterson.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; five sisters, Theresa Clark, Anna Schmidt, Kathryn Crews, Rita Pond and Cecilia in infancy.

A funeral was held Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City with the Rev. William McGhee officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery and included military graveside honors by the VFW and American Legion posts of Pulaski and Alexander counties. Visitation was at the Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, Ill.

Memorials contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

DIANA JOAN MURKOWSKI
Saline - Diana Joan Murkowski, 49, of Saline died March 21, 2007, at her home with her family by her side after a long illness.

She was born July 10, 1957, in Norwalk, Conn., the daughter of Edgar and Jean (Vento) Gardner.

On Aug. 30, 1980, in Toledo, Ohio, she married Francis G. Murkowski, and he survives.

Mrs. Murkowski had lived in Saline since 2001. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline and a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She had a bachelor's degree in teaching.

In addition to her husband, Francis, survivors include two children, Jessica (Charles) Eroh of Saline and Robert E. Murkowski of Saline; her father, Edgar Gardner of Redmond, Ore.; three brothers, Paul (Carol) Gardner of Vancouver, Wash., Edgar (Trina) Gardner of Barto, Pa., and William (Cate) Gardner of Nashville, Tenn.; two nieces; and five nephews.

Mrs. Murkowski was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Gardner.

A beloved wife and mother, she was loved by all who came in contact with her.

Aside from her one true love, her family, she enjoyed time with her dog, Molly, helping others, and a good Italian meal.

Mrs. Murkowski fought for many years against a rare disease, Cowdens syndrome. A tireless advocate for those with the disease, she established and directed the Cowdens Syndrome Foundation.

Mrs. Murkowski was truly an angel that walked the Earth, her family said.

A Mass of the Christian Burial was held Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church Saline. The Rev. William J. Stevenson was celebrant. Cremation followed the services.

Arrangements were entrusted to Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.

Mary Cox
Saline

Mary Cox, 86, of Saline died March 25, 2007, She was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Grand Rapids to Percival and Aiieeh Atkinson.

She married the love of her life, James Travis Cox Jr., March 30, 1951.

Mrs. Cox gave the gifts of life — love, music and independent spirit — to her children, Carole (Richard) Murphy, Melissa (Mike) Dotz, and James T. (Carole) Cox III.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her siblings, Betty vanDyke, Frannie Dailey, and Bill Atkinson.

Surviving are her sister, Barb Colburn; her sister-in-law, Virginia Seibert; her children and grandchildren, Richard Murphy III, Patrick Murphy, Elise Murphy, Nathan Dotz, Abby Dotz, Andrew Cox-Quirin, Katherine Cox, and Victoria Cox; many nieces and nephews, as well as several golfing buddies and other friends.

Mrs. Cox will be remembered by many as a woman who gave generously of her time, talent and care, always considerate of the needs and concerns of others. She loved life and always had a positive attitude. She remains an inspiration to those whose lives she touched, her family said.

Mrs. Cox asked that those who prefer to make a donation in her memory do so to Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor or to the Girl Scouts Huron Valley Council.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor, where she was a member. Interment will follow in Fairview Heights, Ill.

The family received friends Wednesday at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor.

MERSON A. WIEDMEYER

Frostproof, Fla.

Formally of Ann Arbor

Emerson A. "Pete" Wiedmeyer, 86, died June 12, 2007, on his 64th wedding anniversary. He was born Oct. 17, 1920, in Bridgewater Township the son of Alfred (Pete) and Margaret (Boyer) Wiedmeyer.

Mr. Wiedmeyer grew up in Saline, and during his marriage lived in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor until he retired to Florida in 1974 and lived there the remainder of his life.

Mr. Wiedmeyer served for the Navy in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1946. After his military service, he worked for the American Broach, Mirco Film, and eventually the Milan Correctional Institution from which he retired.

On June 12, 1943, he married Alice (Wetherbee), and she survives. Also surviving are their two children, Larry (Kathy) Wiedmeyer and Linda (Larry) Hartmann; three grandchildren, Joe (Jill) Wiedmeyer, Kim (Ralph) Cabildo and Heather (Steve) Feldkamp; seven great-grandchildren, Gage and Tanner Wiedmeyer, Ryan, Alex and Olivia Cabildo, Jessica and Bradley Feldkamp; one sister, Evelyn Nelson, a great supporter; a sister-in-law, Mable Peabody; and many other nieces, nephews, close family and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, more recently his brothers-in-law, Pat Wetherbee and Evan Nelson, and son-in-law, James Hartmann.

Mr. Wiedmeyer loved fishing, bluegrass festivals, flying and taking care of the park where he lived.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no plans for a service at this time.
