Millage, Gerald R. “Red”
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 91, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005. He was born February 20, 1914 in Ypsilanti, the son of Arthur W. and Lucy (Hathaway) Millage. On November 29, 1947, he married Vernajean Hubbard and she survives. He was employed by Forbes Cleaners for 30 years and then later, was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life. Red was a life member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Moose. He loved to bowl and golf. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael and one grandson, Eric, both of WA. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, April 8 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Bomgren of Emmanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. Contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 4-9 P.M. Thursday. There will also be a Masonic service 7-00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Moore, Deadra Ann (Dunlap)
Tecumseh, MI
(formerly of Ypsilanti)

Age 41, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at her parents’ home following a bout with leukemia. She was born September 28, 1963 in Benton, KY, the daughter of Roy and Linda (Meadows) Dunlap. She was a 1981 graduate of Willow Run High School and worked for Meijers on Carpenter Road for 25 years. Survivors include- her parents of Ypsilanti; husband, Frank; the joy of her life, three children, Michael Marecle, Rachael Marecle and Roy Moore; one brother, Doyle Dunlap of Ypsilanti; one sister, Dana Snedegar of Ypsilanti; several nieces and nephews; maternal grandmother, Jane Hamilton of Ypsilanti; maternal great grandmother, Maggie Litchfield of Paducah, KY; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be 3-00 P.M. Saturday, February 19 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bob Wright officiating. Cremation will follow. Contributions may be made to the National Marrow Donor Program. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Friday.

Nelson, Norma Jean
Ann Arbor, MI

Age 56, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born June 12, 1948 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Norman R. and Thelma E. (Gaffney) Nelson. Norma was a member of the Ann Arbor Church of Christ and worked for the University of MI NCRB for over 30 years. Survivors include- two daughters, Anna (Allan) Baldwin of Evart, MI and Thelma J. Nelson of Ann Arbor; one son, Cody (Rebecca) Smallthunder of Clawsen, MI; four grandchildren, Cody, Becky, Brandy and Kateline; and her mother, Thelma E. Nelson of Ann Arbor. She was preceded in death by her father. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 1-30 P.M. Saturday, February 12 at the Ann Arbor Church of Christ, 2500 S. Main Street, Ann Arbor with Mr. Lance Perry officiating. Contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice Residence or the American Cancer Society. Newcomb Sr., Wallace Edward
Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 83, died peacefully Friday, November 12, 2004 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his family by his side. He was born October 26, 1921 in Lebanon, IL, the son of Norton and Pearl (Spalding) Newcomb Sr. Wallace was a World War II veteran who served with the U.S. Army from 1942 through 1945 in the Aleutian Islands, Asiatic Pacific Theater. Following his honorary discharge from the Army, he became a student at the University of MI. On December 14, 1946, he married Laura Catherine Oakes at her family’s home in Ypsilanti and she survives. As a University of MI alumnus, he was a spirited Wolverine sports fan. He and Catherine enjoyed many trips sponsored by the alumni association. He had a lifelong interest in literature, classical music and writing poetry. Wally also took great price in Catherine’s photographic accomplishments. He retired from General Motors Corporation’s former Hydra-matic Division in 1983 after 30 years of service. He had a passion for golf and enjoyed playing on the GM golf league as well as other golf leagues in the area. Wally will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity and his love and devotion to his family. In addition to his loving wife of 57 years, Laura Catherine Newcomb, survivors include one son, Wallace Edward (Marie) Newcomb Jr.; three daughters, Jane Newcomb, Catherine A. Newcomb and Barbara (Alex) Mark; two grandsons, Andrew M. Lyskawa and David O. Newcomb; one sister, Barbara A. Moorman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Norton Newcomb Jr., Robert S. Newcomb Sr., James F. Newcomb and Donald C. Newcomb; and two sisters, Julia F. Whitmore and Louise C. Stellwagen. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Mr. Newcomb’s name may be made to a charity of your choice or to

Nickell, Tammy E.
Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 43, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 21, 1961 in Ypsilanti, MI. Tammy had been employed at Banfields Bar and Grill in Ann Arbor for many years. Survivors include- her daughter, Monica (Jamie) Horn of Ypsilanti; her father and stepmother, Richard and Sue Schramm of Mio; one brother, Rick (Priscilla) Schramm of Ypsilanti; stepsister and stepbrother, Tina and David; four nieces; two nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Monnie Elizabeth “Libby”. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Tuesday, December 14 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Caner Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 5-9 P.M. Monday.

Patterson, Marie Eva Wilhelmina
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 85, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born April 1, 1919 in Detroit, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Wiederhoft) Roggenkamp. On March 16, 1944, she married Elzie Patterson in Ypsilanti and he preceded her in death on August 20, 1987. Mrs. Patterson was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Ypsilanti and was a volunteer at Arbor Hospice. Survivors include- four daughters, Kathleen (Dan) Gibson of KY, Linda Stanley of Canton, Cheryl Kovacs of Dexter and Susan (Paul) Metler of Ypsilanti; one son, Michael (Mary) Patterson of TN; 20 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen. The funeral service will be 1-00 P.M. Saturday, April 2 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 201 N. River Street, Ypsilanti with Pastor Denny Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Friday at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel and at the church from 12 noon until time of service Saturday.

Payne, Lynda Sue
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 61, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born July 27, 1943 in Blue Ridge, GA, the daughter of G.W. and Visie (Adams) Payne. Survivors include- four sisters, Lorene (Claude) Mullinax of GA, Mary L. (J.B.) Porter of Ypsilanti, Eula (W. Fain) Kirby of FL and Marcelle (Arthur) Bailey of TX; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Friday, February 4 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Whitestone cemetery in GA. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Phillips, Pauline R.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 84, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2004. She was born September 13, 1920 in Cullman, AL, the daughter of George and Modinie (Cornelius) Williamson. On March 9, 1940, she married Troy W. Phillips in Cullman, AL and he preceded her in death October 4, 2001. Pauline was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Ypsilanti Township. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include- one daughter, Reba Phillips of Ypsilanti; two sons, James (Patricia) of Willis and Leland (Carol) of Mexico; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Roberta Morgan of TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband of 61 years, she was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Randel. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday, December 29 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Mike Allen of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. Porter, Bill
Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 83, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his family by his side. He was born March 16, 1921 in Portsmouth, OH, the son of George and Lillian (Traylor) Porter. On June 9, 1984, he married Zelma Treva Lawson in Saline and she survives. Bill worked for Ford Motor Company for 25 years and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his wife, survivors include- four daughters, Loretta Baker and Martha Miller, both of OH, Mary Rogers of AZ and Diane Burke of Belleville; four sons, William Lambert and Robert Neal, both of OH and Richard and Ralph Porter; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Phyliss Whitmer of OH; three brothers, Cleo W. Porter of OH, George E. Porter of FL and Virgil Porter of TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Debbie and Christine, one brother and two sisters. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Thursday, December 9 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Marty Carter of Ypsilanti Assembly of God officiating. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 P.M. Tuesday and 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Wednesday.

Priest, Robert D.
Northville, MI

Age 53, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2004 at Arbor Hospice Residence with his family by his side. He was born November 13, 1951 in Garden City, MI, the son of Gene F. and Sylvia M. (Olson) Priest. He was a general laborer all his life and a member of the Northville Eagles for many years. Survivors include - four brothers, Michael Priest of Pittsford, MI, Terry Priest of Union City, TN, Joey Priest of Northville, MI and Scott Priest of Taylor, MI; one nephew, Billy (Debbie) Priest; one niece, Amy (Jerome) McGurdy; one grand-niece, Kaylee Priest and one grand-nephew, Riley Priest; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice Residence. Robbins, Clara Marie
Ypsilanti Township, MI

Age 87, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005. She was born February 22, 1917 in Parkersburg, IL, the daughter of Loney and Effie (Arnold) Harris. On February 23, 1942, she married Eugene S. Robbins and he preceded her in death January 22, 1986. Mrs. Robbins started her career in nursing and then was a receptionist for the Franklin Realty Company for 17 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti. Survivors include one brother, Joseph Harris of Indiana, one niece, Judy Bardsley of MT and two nephews, Allan Harris of AZ and Frank Harris of IN. The graveside service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, January 7 at Denton cemetery. Arrangements by STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel.

Ypsilanti, MI

Age 96, died February 3, 2005. Funeral 3-00 P.M. Sunday, February 6 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE with visitation at 2-00 P.M. Fr. Nicholas Ritter of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial in Detroit Memorial Park West.

Schmitt, Perry D.
