Towler, Richard “Zeke”
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 67, passed away peacefully Friday, December 29, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He was born May 5, 1938 in Ypsilanti, MI. He had been employed by Newhouse Automotive/Stewart Distributors, retiring from Auto Value of Ypsilanti (Newhouse). He was an avid bowler. He enjoyed working on and restoring cars. Survivors include- his wife, Margarett; two sons, Daniel (Melinda Kelley) and Dale (Crystal) Towler; daughter, Paula Towler; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary “Cathy” Towler; granddaughter, Marissa; three brothers, Lionell, Bob and Bud; and sister, Marion Dodson. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 P.M. Monday and 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Tuesday.

Wiard, Martha J.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 93, passed away peacefully Friday, December 23, 2005 at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, MI. She was born September 12, 1912 in Herman, MI in the Upper Peninsula to Matt and Sophia (Repola) Haapala. On August 24, 1934, she married Harold Wiard in Angola, IN and he preceded her in death August 21, 1970. Martha graduated from the University of MI School of Nursing in 1933. She loved Michigan football and attended games at home and away for many years. She was a proud member of the M Club, as well as the Alumni Association. Martha worked for many years at Beyer Hospital as a nursing supervisor. She spent 18 years as the school nurse at Lincoln Consolidated Schools. During her tenure there, she helped countless families through tough times and all are encouraged to share those stories with those attending the celebration of her life. She always loved to see her former students from Lincoln. When Martha left Lincoln, she became the Washtenaw County TB Coordinator and retired from that position in 1975. Martha enjoyed a long retirement in which she traveled and spent time with her family. She loved family get-togethers. She loved music and rarely missed the Saturday afternoon opera on the radio. She attended the Metropolitan Opera performances in Detroit for many years. Martha loved to dance. She loved to feed and watch the many birds that came to her feeders. She took the greatest pride in her grandchildren and their accomplishments and later, her great grandchildren. Martha was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Paint Creek Farm Bureau, the Spencer Club and the Women’s Loyal Order of Moose. Martha is survived by- her children, Bill (Edith) Wiard, Bob (Charlotte) Wiard and Betty (Alan) Sloan; grandchildren, Mark (Brenda) Wiard, Paige Wiard, Pam (Iain) Reno, Sandy (Adam) Haithcock, Jeff (Jenny) Sloan, Robbie Wiard and Jamie (Marty) Griffin; great grandchildren, Zach and Morgan Reno, Logan and Alex Haithcock, Luke and Katie Sloan, Chad and Adriana Wiard and Jason Griffin; two sisters, Tyyne Murtimaki of Nisula, MI and Marietta Korpi of Traunik, MI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and five brothers. The funeral service will be 2-00 P.M. Wednesday, December 28 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Mr. Diuguie Wiard officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution in Martha’s memory to your favorite charity. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 2-8 P.M. Tuesday.

Wynn, Judith A.
Milan, MI

Age 62 died December 31, 2005 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born January
24, 1943 in Belleville, MI to Edward and Virginia (McDevitt) Taylor. On April 22, 1967 she married Larry Wynn and he survives.
Survivors besides her husband include two daughters Misty Gruden of Milan and Tina (Jim) Martin of Orange City, FL., a son Del (Marion) Moffett of Tennessee, five grandchildren, two sisters; Virginia (Charlie) Box of Ypsilanti, Alice Summers of Belleville and a brother David Taylor of Ypsilanti. Her parents and a brother George preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Thursday, January 5th from 2-4 and 6-9pm where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11-00am. Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Yates, Marlyn E.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 82, passed away peacefully in her home in the early morning hours Saturday December 10, 2005 with her family and her dog, Suzy nearby. Her daughter Rita was with her to hold her hand and her granddaughter, Stacy, along with two great grandsons, Jack and Ramy, were grateful to have arrived three days earlier from their home in Alaska in time to say goodbye and spend a little more time with their beloved Granny. Marlyn was born August 8, 1923 in Danville, TN, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Cordes) Biggs. She was raised by her loving grandparents, Rueben and Minnie Biggs in Tennessee Ridge, where she lived until she married Edward G. Yates in 1942. They moved to Detroit when Edward returned home from Europe after World War II. They soon moved to Ypsilanti where they raised their family. Marlyn enjoyed having family and friends visit, especially during the holidays. Everyone who entered her door usually entered her heart as well. Everyone enjoyed her delicious cooking, including beans and cornbread, meatloaf, potato salad and Christmas fudge. Above all, Marlyn treasured her family but she also had many special interest including Tiger baseball and other MI area sports, country music and her flowers. Marlyn leaves behind- her husband, Edward; daughters, Marilyn (James) Porter and Rita Yates and her friend, Ron Dorris; granddaughters, Robin Porter and her friend, Frank and Stacy (Scott) Swingle; grandsons, James Porter Jr. and Jeffery Porter; and great grandchildren, Wendy (Matthew) Williams, Chelsee and Hayley Strine, James Porter III, Andrew Porter and Jack, Finn, Rhys and Ramy Swingle. She also leaves behind a son-in-law, Thomas Josephson and a sister-in-law, Janice Yates; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two daughters, Glynda Josephson and Patricia Yates, her brother Daniel Biggs and three grandsons, Larry Dale Strine and Bradley and Brian Yates, along with many dear friends and family members. There will be a service of remembrance 6-00 P.M. Monday, December 12 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Please call the funeral home for additional visitation hours.

Armstrong, Robert Lee
Canton, MI

Age 46, passed away suddenly Saturday, April 16, 2006 at his home. He was born July 30, 1959 in Ypsilanti, the son of Eugene H. and Alice (Newsom) Armstrong. Robert served in the U.S. Navy and worked at Eby Brown for several years. He enjoyed music and photography. Survivors include - his wife, Joyce Armstrong; one daughter and one son, both at home, Ashley Marie Armstrong and Kyle Matthew Armstrong; one son, Robert Lee Armstrong; stepson, Richard B. Johnson III of Mason, MI; two brothers, Howard (Chris) Armstrong of Garden City and Eugene (Sharon) Armstrong of Petoskey; two sisters, Suzy (Robert) Melfi and Josephine Armstrong, both of Ypsilanti; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Alice. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, April 21, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery, Plymouth, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to college education funds for Robert’s children. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Thursday.

Ball, Lorraine G.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 85, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born August 21, 1920 in Coalwood, WV, the daughter of David O. and Malinda (Woods) Messer. On January 27, 1938, she married Richard Ball Jr. in Prestonsburg, KY and he survives. Lorraine worked at the Ypsilanti Big Boy Restaurant for 17-1/2 years. She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching Tigers baseball with her son Mike. She enjoyed dancing and having clean, simple fun. She made people feel like they were the most important person in the world. Lorraine was a dear wife and loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband of 65 years, survivors include- one son, Michael D. (Sharon) Ball of Ypsilanti; two granddaughters, Cindy (Marc) Walentowicz of Westland and Melissa Ball of Ypsilanti; one brother, Paul Messer of FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard Ball III, one brother, Henry Messer and one sister, Launa Porter. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Thursday, April 27, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Rudy Shankle of First Free Will Baptist Church officiating. The graveside service will be 4-00 P.M. Sunday, April 30 in Mayo cemetery, Prestonsburg, KY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Wednesday.

Bates, Eula Mae
Ypsilanti, MI
(formerly of Monroe)

Age 89, passed away Friday, April 28, 2006 at Bortz Health Care of Ypsilanti. She was born November 1, 1916 in Georgiana, AL, the daughter of Sam and Annie White. On July 2, 1933, she married William Bates in Gulfport, MS and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by five sons, William Jr., Louis, Lott, Samuel and Micheal Bates. She is survived by one son, Soloman Bates and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, May 5, 2006 at Community Church of God, 565 Jefferson, Ypsilanti with Rev. Fred L. Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Monroe. The family hour will be at the church from 10-00 A.M. until time of service Friday. Arrangements by STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel.

Bennett, Mary “Moe”
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 90, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006 at Heartland Health Care Center. She was born October 27, 1915 in Wardell, MO, the daughter of William and Addie (Elliott) Howard. On August 2, 1947, she married Melvin D. Bennett in Toledo, OH and he preceded her in death May 19, 1989. Mary was a member of New Life Baptist Church and worked for Eastern MI University as a head cook for 14 years. Survivors include- one daughter, Della (Allen) Cloud of Ypsilanti; three sons, Thomas of Evart, MI, Daniel (Pam) of Pinckney and Larry (Cathy) of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren, Sherry, David, Elaine, Derek, Greg, Ryan, Robert and Gary; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Pearl Major of Ypsilanti; one brother, Charles (Flonnie) Howard of Ypsilanti; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Jeff, one great grandson, Joshua, three sisters and three brothers. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, May 5, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Keith Worrell of Graceway Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. Contributions in her memory may be made to either the donor’s choice or Heartland Health Care and Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Wednesday and 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Thursday.

Bohanan, Charles M.
Milan, MI

Age 81 died April 25, 2006 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born April 15, 1925 in Knoxville, TN to Oda and Birdie (Tharpe) Bohanan.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. On December 25, 1946 he married Virginia Sailers in Knoxville and she preceded him in death July 26, 1983. Charles lived in Belleville for 35 years until moving to Milan two years ago. He was an electrician for Ford Motor Co., Woodhaven plant for 30 years. Charles was a member of the Congress Street Church of God and served on the board of the church and as a lay pastor.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda (Sonny) Shock of Milan, one grandson Justin; one step-grandson Joshua and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9pm. The funeral will be Thursday at Congress Street Church of God, 1225 S. Congress St., Ypsilanti at 11am with visitation from 10am until time of service Rev. David Adams officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Adamsville cemetery, Adamsville, MI.

Bordine, David A.
Hartland, WI
(Formerly of Milan and Ann Arbor)

Age 48 died April 19, 2006 at Angels Grace Hospice in Hartland, with his family by his side. David was born August 10, 1957 in Ann Arbor to Stanton and Mary Lou (Southward) Bordine. He was a 1975 graduate of Pioneer High School, Ann Arbor and a 1980 graduate of Western Michigan University. David sold medical supplies for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and coaching his children’s sports. David is survived by his two children Travis and Margaret Bordine both of Illinois, parents Stan and Lou of Milan, a brother Dan (Marie) of Milan two sisters Debbie (Ed) Eggert of Ida and Diane (Alex) Paich of Milan as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan on Sunday from 2-8pm with the funeral on Monday, at 11-00am. Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Kidney Foundation.

Brown, Cameron Maurice
Ann Arbor, MI

Two-and-one-half year old son of Tomicka Brown and Maurice Smith unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006. He was born September 2, 2003 in Ann Arbor. In addition to his loving parents, survivors include- one brother, Chase Brown; grandparents, Minnie and Louis Brown and Donna Smith; and a host of uncles and aunties. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Albert Lightfoot of New Hope Baptist Church, Ann Arbor, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family hour will from 10-00 A.M. until time of service Saturday.

Ann Arbor, MI
Formerly of Milan, MI

Age 91, died Saturday April 15, 2006 at Arbor Hospice with her loving family by her side. She was born March 21, 1915 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Rossiter and Alma (Froeschle) Farnsworth. On August 31, 1936 she married Richard Burlingame in Brighton, MI they moved to Milan in 1939 and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1998. Virginia is survived by two daughters; Katherine (Frederick) Nestrock of Waldwick, NJ, Janice (Stephen) Toth of Waterford, MI, a son Gordon (Carolyn) Burlingame of Milan, MI; five granddaughters, one great granddaughter, a sister Katherine Tice and nephew Bob (Donna) Tice of Golden, CO, sister-in-law Dorothy Reese of Ann Arbor, nephew Bill Bright of Ypsilanti and a niece Barbara (Don) Chaffin of Ann Arbor. For many years Virginia was a homemaker whose great joy was to host family gatherings. She expressed her creativity through a lifelong interest in painting; participating for many years in the Ann Arbor Art Fair and the Ann Arbor Art Association. She also volunteered many hours at the University Hospital helping with the “art cart.” Virginia was a lovely wife and devoted mother. In accordance with her wishes a private family gathering was held. Those desiring may make contributions in Virginia’s memory to Arbor Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
