Wasem, Leola (Talladay)
Milan, MI

Age 89 died June 9, 2006 at Saline Hospital. She was born July 8, 1916 in Milan to Jay and Grace (Crittenden) Talladay. On February 15, 1942 she married Edward C. Wasem and he preceded her in death March 23, 1986. Leola was a graduate of Lincoln Consolidated High School and Michigan State University. She served a one year Diabetic Internship at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y. and was the Dietician at Martins Ferry Hospital, Ohio prior to her marriage. Leola was a lifetime member of Stony Creek United Methodist Church, Ypsilanti, served many years as a Sunday school teacher and worked with the Girl Scouts. She and her husband owned and operated Wasem Fruit Farm and sold produce at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market since 1942. Throughout the years many people have enjoyed her homemade baked goods, jams and jellies that she sold at the market and the orchard.
Survivors include two daughters Jeanette (Bruce) Upston and Elizabeth Wasem both of Milan, two grandchildren, Craig and Amy Upston, twin brother Lee (Frances)Talladay and sister-in-law Cleone Talladay. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a brother Rex.
The family will receive friends at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Sunday, June 18th from 6-8pm. A memorial service will be held at Stony Creek United Methodist Church on Monday, June 19th at 11-00am. with Rev. Peter Harris and Rev. Doug Olsen co-officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Stony Creek United Methodist Church.

Weber, Ernie
Belleville, MI

Age 72, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006 at the University of MI Hospital. He was born January 13, 1934 in Ypsilanti, the son of George and Adelma (Fisk) Weber. On August 19, 1967, he married Dorothy Whittimore in Dearborn and she survives. Ernie was part of Forest Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, cook and Sunday School teacher. He worked at Beyer Hospital as an x-ray technician for 35 years and also wrote the article “Funny Bone” for the hospital newsletter. He loved crossword puzzles and telling cheesy jokes. In addition to his loving wife of 38 years, survivors include- one daughter, Rebekah Charlotte Weber of Belleville; one son, Matthew Orrin Weber of Belleville; one brother, Duane (Vida) Weber of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Wednesday, May 24 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rick Stewart and Rev. Ronald G. Clark co-officiating. Burial will follow in Michigan Memorial cemetery. Contributions in Ernie’s memory may be made to the church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Tuesday.

Welch, Angeline R.
Lewisburg, WV
(formerly of Ypsilanti)

Age 88, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2006 in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, WV after a long illness. She was born May 20, 1918 in Dunmine, MI, the daughter of Dominic and Maria (Caravita) Perlongo. She had been a resident of Lewisburg, WV for several years. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Ronceverte, had worked for Ford Motor Company for 28 years on the assembly line and was a homemaker. Survivors include- two daughters, Denise “Dee” M. (Jim) Howell of Lewisburg and Cheryl L. (Allen) Dyer of Grass Lake, MI; one son, Myron E. Welch of Ann Arbor; four sisters, Mary Johns of Gaastra, Jennie (John) Viery of Virginia Beach, VA, Frances A. Dally of Marion, OH and Stella M. Bray of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren, Stacey (Kevin) Wing of Ann Arbor, Jason (Heather) Howell of Lewisburg, Christopher (Natalie) Howell of Alderson and Katie (Jeff) Skaggs, both of Alderson, WV; eight great grandchildren, Kayla, Brandon, Nathaniel and Hannah Wing, Caleb and Mason Howell and Trey and Cody Skaggs; a special niece, Bonnie Sinnott of Marion, OH; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward Thomas Welch in 1954 and five brothers, Nandy, Mickey, Herman, Joe and Jim Perlongo. The funeral mass will be 11-00 A.M. Thursday, June 8 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 410 W. Cross Street, Ypsilanti with Rev. Fr. Edmond Ertzbischoff as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 P.M. Wednesday at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where the scripture service will be 7-00 P.M. There will also be a visitation at the church from 10-00 A.M. until time of mass.

Artuso, Priscilla E.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 63, died December 13, 2006. Visitation 1-2 p.m. December 18 at Stark Funeral Service. Burial in MI Memorial Park. Donations to the family would be appreciated.

Bester, Shelly L.
Belleville, MI

Age 42, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006. She was born May 18, 1964 in Garden City, MI, the daughter of Dennis H. and Annis J. (Walsh) Thiede. For sixteen years, Shelly was a teacher’s aide for special needs children at High Point. For the last six years, she has been employed by NuStep in Ann Arbor. Survivors include- her parents of Saline; two daughters, Christina (Rob) Clement of Belleville and Jessica Beagle of Belleville; five granddaughters, Kaitlynn, age eight, Hailey, age six, Angelic, age five, McKensi, age three and Annabell, age three; one sister, Denise Gibson of GA; one brother, Butch Thiede of Clinton, MI; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be 6-00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 5-00 P.M. until time of service Thursday.

Bordine, Darin C.
Milan, MI

Age 49 died December 23, 2006 at Arbor Hospice with his family by his side. He was born October 7, 1957 in Ann Arbor. Darin was a 1975 graduate of Milan, worked locally and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ann Arbor. He is survived by his aunt Dora Birchmeier of Milan and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Dick and Wanda (Crittenden) Bordine. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8pm at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan with graveside service 3-00pm Friday at Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contributions to Arbor Hospice.

Bortles, Harold F. "Toss"
Of Tecumseh formerly of Milan

Age 72, died Saturday at home. He was born July 9, 1934 in Milan, Michigan to Stanley and Grace (Tierney) Bortles. On August 23, 1958 he married Caroll Schwede and she survives. He served as a member of the Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1956.
He was an avid college football and Michigan fan and had worked as an usher for the University of Michigan both at the Big House and at Chrysler Arena. “Toss” was instrumental in starting the Milan Men’s slow pitch softball league. He helped coach and manage from 1971-1975. He worked for Associated Springs in Ann Arbor as a Stockhandler and Hi-lo Driver. He retired in 1994 after more than thirty years of service.
Survived by his wife of Tecumseh; a daughter- Brenda (Bill) Swift of Tecumseh; a son- Brian (Melissa) Bortles of Ypsilanti; a brother- Donald Bortles of Clinton; two sisters- Abbie Radtke of Milan and Carol (Bud) Midkeff of Deerfield; and 4 ˝ grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; a daughter- Dawn Annette Bortles in 1961; and siblings- Rosie Kanitz, Helen Smiatowicz, Laura Combs, and Sonny Bortles.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-9pm, Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9pm at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan. Friends may also call from 9-30am until funeral services at 10-30am Thursday at Christ Our King Lutheran Church, Saline with Rev. Tom Schroeder officiating. Brewer Jr., Ben F.
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 49, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2006 following an extended illness. He was born May 21, 1957 in Ypsilanti, the son of Ben F. and Kathleen (Trout) Brewer. Ben was a 1975 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. On July 1, 1989, he married Pearl Varney in Belleville and she survives. He was employed by Ford Motor Company, Livonia Transmission plant for the past 24 years. Ben was a coach with the Ypsilanti National Little League for years. He was a loving son, husband, father and brother. In addition to his loving wife of 17 years, survivors include- his mother, Kathleen Brewer; three sons, Ben III, Justin and Sean; one sister, JoEtta (James) Allen; two brothers, James (Marla) Brewer and Ulyss (Linda) Brewer; and a host of other relatives. The funeral service will be 1-30 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2006 at Pine View Church of the Apostolic Faith, 6400 Textile Road, Ypsilanti. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Bunton, Max C.
Willis, MI

Age 82 died December 13, 2006 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born July 11, 1924 in Willis, MI to Clyde and Edith (Gotts) Bunton. On July 23, 1954 he married Edythe Baisch and she survives. In 1955 he founded Bunton Builders and was active in operations until its closing in 1997.
He was a private pilot, was a member of Yankee Air Museum and the American Legion of Ypsilanti.
Besides his wife he is survived by daughters Anne (Donald) Carder of Norcross, GA, Teresa (Dean) Matcheck of Peachtree, GA, sons Stephen Bunton of Belleville, MI, Mark (Kimberly) Bunton of Milan, five grandchildren, two brothers Robert (Shirley) of Willis, Richard of Lewiston, two sisters Marian (Murray) Day of Deland, FL, Genevieve of Govin of Montpelier, OH. He was preceded in death by sisters Beatrice Royal of WA, and Dorothy Amrhein, MA.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 & 6-9pm at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan where funeral services will be held Saturday at 2pm with Rev. Jeffrey Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Alban cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice. Byrd, Richard
Ypsilanti, MI

Age 55, passed away Friday, December 15, 2006 at home. He was born May 20, 1951 in Ann Arbor, the son of Evans and Cora (Bow) Byrd. He graduated as valedictorian from Willow Run High School in 1969 and received a four-year scholarship from General Motors to the University of Michigan. Richard graduated from the University of MI and then attained his Masters at Eastern MI University. On July 1, 1972, he married Stefanie Condoll in Ypsilanti and she survives. He was a test engineer for Ford Motor Company for over 29 years. He was an avid sportsman and extensive traveler. In addition to his loving wife of 34 years, survivors include- one son, Richard Daniel “Danny” (Mikki) Byrd of Ypsilanti; his mother, Cora Byrd of Ypsilanti; two sisters, Sheryl Ashford Wilson of Ann Arbor and Yvonnie Boyd of Ypsilanti; one stepbrother; his loving in-laws; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, his father-in-law, Joseph Condoll Sr. and one loving sister-in-law, Jo-Ann. The funeral mass will be 10-00 A.M. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 410 W. Cross Street, Ypsilanti with Rev. Fr. Edmond Ertzbischoff as celebrant. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Caudill, Victor
Milan, MI
(formerly of Ypsilanti)

Age 86, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at home. He was born February 22, 1920 in Pikeville, KY, the son of Joseph and Keturah (Elkins) Caudill. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. On October 18, 1946, he married Audrey Anderson in Burdine, KY and she survives. Victor attended the Ypsilanti Old Regular Baptist Church and worked for General Motors, Willow Run plant for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He loved camping and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, survivors include- two daughters, Judy Mullins of Milan and Gay (Jim) Brown of LA; one son, William (Gloria) Caudill of Adrian, MI; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; two brothers, George (Oda) Caudill of Jonesville, MI and Frank (Gayle) Caudill of Wayne, MI; and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Merita Kay and Vickie Lynn and one son, Doyce. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Friday, December 8, 2006 at Ypsilanti Old Regular Baptist Church, 5668 Denton Road, Canton with Elder Gene Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel 6-9 P.M. tonight, 2-4 & 6-9 P.M. Thursday and at the church from 10-00 A.M. until time of service Friday.

Cinnamon, Lowell M.
St. Helen, MI
(formerly of Belleville)

Age 65, passed away Monday, December 18, 2006 at home with his loved ones beside him. He was born June 22, 1941 in Middlesboro, KY, the son of Eckel and Lela (Bryant) Cinnamon. On March 19, 1962, he married Kathy Usher and she survives. Mr. Cinnamon was a longtime Belleville resident who grew up in the Ypsilanti area and retired from Ford Motor Company, Rawsonville plant. In addition to his loving wife of almost 45 years, survivors include- three children, Steven (Anna) Cinnamon of Belleville, Margaret (Darrin) Mikus of St. Clair Shores and Andrew (Sandy) Cinnamon of Belleville; eight grandchildren, Angela, Kyle, Steven, Breanne, Brandon, Allison, Alec and Randi; one sister, Vivian (James) Ware of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Cinnamon. The funeral service will be 11-00 A.M. Saturday, December 23, 2006 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Contributions in his memory may be made to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will greet friends 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Friday.
