Age 54, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at home. She was born October 18, 1953 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Herbert Springer and Helen Scott. On October 22, 1971 she married Randy Brooks and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2007. She is survived by her daughter Angie (Bob) Straub, son Randy Brooks, seven grandchildren, Kayla Brooks, Ryan Straub, Danny Brooks, Britney Brooks, Amber Straub, Katlin Brooks and Kassidy Brooks all of whom she loved very much. Also surviving is her father Herbert, step-father David Jennings, three brothers Dave, Jimmy and Mike Jennings, three sisters Vicky Jennings, Patty (Rex) Schultz and Sandy (Dennis) Jewell. She will be deeply missed by her family. Besides her husband Randy, she was preceded in death by her mother Helen, brother Jeff Jennings and infant brother Thomas. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan from 2-8pm, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 1pm. Engelbert, William H.

Age 94 died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born May 25, 1914 in Lindsey, Nebraska to John and Eunice (Fusselman) Engelbert. On January 6, 1940 he married Carol Griffith and she preceded him in death in 2003. William served in the Army during WWII. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline, the Knights of Columbus and the Saline Area Senior Citizens. He is survived by a son William (Vicky) Engelbert of Ypsilanti, two grandchildren James (Michelle) Engelbert of Flat Rock, Laura (Michael) Williams of Milan, five great-grandchildren, Maggie, Jack, Hayden, Anika, Reagan, one brother Dennis (Kay) Engelbert of Chelsea, two sisters Katherine Person of East Port and Betty (Dale) Bowman of Albion, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, parents, two infant sons, four sisters and one brother. Cremation has taken place. A private burial will be held at Bethlehem cemetery in Ann Arbor. Estermyer, Virginia A.

Age 83, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Wednesday, August 20, 2008 with her family by her side. She was born May 21, 1925 in Ypsilanti, MI. On December 19, 1941, she married Robert J. Estermyer and he preceded her in death April 28, 1997. Survivors include- two daughters, Karen (Steve Shirley) Holley of SC and Penny (Robert) Hendricks of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren, Kenneth (Sandi) Holley, Jodi (Dana) Clark, Tamara Spare, Robert (Tracey) Hendricks, Todd (Lisa) Hendricks, Kimberly (Jon) Stillman, Aaron (Megan) Hendricks and Teri (Todd) Parris; and thirteen great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Merritt and Lawrence Warner Jr. The funeral service will be 3-00 pm Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Union-Udell cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-00 pm until time of service Saturday.

Fairman Jr., Ben C.

passed away suddenly Friday, August 8, 2008. His wit, wisdom and zest for life will be missed by his wife of 62 years (and sweetheart for 70), Helen, their five children, Margaret, Paul, Tori, Becky and Robert and twelve grand- and great-grandkids. They were looking forward to an upcoming family reunion. Instead, a memorial celebration of Ben's life is set for 1-00 pm Tuesday, August 19 at Calgary United Methodist Church, 1415 Miller Road, Ann Arbor. Ben touched many lives as a career-long teacher in Ann Arbor, first at Slauson, then Pioneer High School. He was a football coach at Slauson, state champion diving coach at Pioneer and Scout Master with the Boy Scouts here and in Japan. After retirement, his passion for Michigan sports continued through work with the Ann Arbor U of M Club. He loved boating, everything to do with flying, and was a founding member of the tongue-in-cheek group, the “APBs” (Airport Bums) at the Ann Arbor airport. A life-long student and educator of history, he enjoyed reminding people of the founding principles of our nation. Ben's deep love for his country prompted him to enlist as a Private in the Army Air Corps after Pearl Harbor, retiring as a Major in the U.S.A.F. He was an active member of the American Legion Post #46 and the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ann Arbor. Those who wish may donate to the church at 1833 Washtenaw Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 or to the Saulk Council, Boy Scouts of America, 1979 Huron Parkway, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Gauntlett, Mack (LeBaron)

Age 80 died August 14, 2008 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor with his loving family by his side. He was born November 16, 1927 in Milan to Zach and Helen (LeBaron) Gauntlett. He retired as foreman from the Federal Correctional Institution of Milan. He had served in the army, was a member of the American Legion in Milan and the VFW. He also was a member of the barbershop quartet, golfed, enjoyed cards and morning coffee at Washtenaw Dairy. Mack had a zest for life and lived it to its fullest. He is survived his beloved wife of 31 years, Joyce, sons; Jeff (Heather) Gauntlett and Bud (Wendy) Gauntlett, step-children; Kimberly Martin, Kevin (Jennifer) Martin and Karilynne Martin, grandchildren; Joshua, Matthew, Zach and Levi Gauntlett, Nicole Berke and Ashley Martin along with his brother Jean (Glennis) Gauntlett. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Zach, Jr. and Lloyd Gauntlett. Funeral services will be held 11-00am Monday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan with Rev. Vern Campbell officiating. Military rites and burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contribution to the Hemodialysis Dept. c/o St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where friends may call on Sunday from 2-7pm.

Goss, Jackie

Age 71, passed away Friday August 1, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 25, 1937 in Ann Arbor, MI daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Beck) Peters. On August 1, 1953 she married John Henry Goss, Sr. in Ypsilanti and he preceded her in death on October 15, 2001. Jackie worked as an operator at Associated Spring in Saline. Survivors include- two daughters, Becky Buschell of Addison, MI and Deborah Ledford of Ann Arbor, MI. One son- John (Ann) Goss, Jr. of Gregory, MI. Six Grandchildren- Michael, Ryan, Victoria, Johnny III, Daniel and Garrett. Five Great-grandchildren- Karlee, Haylee, Ashlee, Jaya and Rylan. She is also survived by her brother Gerald (Karen) Peters of Texas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Goss, two sisters Shirley Proctor and Pansy and one brother Roy Peters. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be 1-30 pm Tuesday August 5, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Lewis, officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Highland cemetery, Ypsilanti. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Lung Association or to the American Cancer Society. Helms, Frieda Lillian

Age 85, passed away Sunday August 3 2008. She was born November 19, 1922 in Ypsilanti, Michigan daughter of the late John and Nina (Engals) Keller. Frieda worked at the Bomber Plant during WWII. She loved visiting with family and friends, and enjoyed helping others. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include- two sons, Thomas Lanoye and Melvin Helms; three daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Prosal, Darlene Russell and Judy (Dennis) Stringham; 10 grandchildren; 12 grandchildren; one brother Donald Keller; one sister Helen (John) Porterfield; several nieces and nephews; and her loving dog Chico. She was preceded in death by- her husband Joseph Helms in 1962; brother Raymond “Red” Keller; and her longtime companion Harry Kline. Funeral Service will be 3-30 pm Wednesday August 6, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery, Ypsilanti. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-9 pm Tuesday.

Hill, Pauline Lois
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, friend and inspiration to many, passed away July 23, 2008 at Glacier Hills in Ann Arbor. Lois was born October 1, 1934 in Charleston, SC, to John and Louise Grantham Davis, and preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ashley Hill, Jr. Cherishing her life in thought and memory are daughter, Brenda; son, Kevin; grandson, Jorden. Brothers Johnnie Lee Davis Jr. (Louise), Carliss Davis (Dawn), Tyrone Davis (Tanya), Darryl Davis; Sisters Gwendolyn Gordon (James), Ellen McQueen, Tony Raing and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. The family is especially grateful for the wonderful care received at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Glacier Hills Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Deloisteen Brown and Dr. Paul Smith. Visitation is Monday July 28, 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Family Hour is 7-8 p.m. at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel, 101 S. Washington St., Ypsilanti. A Memorial Service given by the Anna G. Kennedy, Michael Sean Jr. “Pooh Bear”

Age 13, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 17, 2008. He was born October 16, 1994 in Ypsilanti, the son of Michael S. and Tanisha N. (Jones) Kennedy Sr. Michael finished eighth grade at South Middle School in Belleville. He played basketball with Ypsilanti Township and AAU Basketball. He also played baseball with the Ypsilanti Township and then the Ypsilanti National Little Leagues. He was a member of Abundant Life Ministries Survivors include- his parents; two sisters, Kenyadda Jones and Makai Kennedy; grandparents, Melvin and Carol Kennedy, Yolanda Patterson and Roy Alexander; aunts and uncles, Joseph Sullivan, Brian (Shiree) Kennedy, Kevin Kennedy, Chaz Robinson, Kenyadda Jones, Byron Patterson, Amber Patterson, Markeith (Kanisha) Browning, and DaQuanda Lewis; best friend, JaWaun Thompson; a host of cousins; and his dog, Dro. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Bethesda Bible Church, 1800 S. Huron Street, Ypsilanti. Entombment will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park. Lehman, Twyla A.
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 92, passed away Monday, July 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born September 25, 1915 in Athens County, OH near the city of Glouster, the daughter of William Moses and Isadora (Bulstron) Kendall. At an early age, she moved with her family to St. Charles, MI and this is where she grew up with her ten brothers and sisters. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 1935. Twyla then attended Eastern MI University and received a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1943. On August 25, 1943 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Chelsea, she married Earl E. Lehman and he survives. During her career, she taught school in Madison Heights, Wayne, Dexter and substituted in the Ypsilanti district. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti and had been active in the Ypsilanti Garden Club and the Ypsilanti Thrift Shop. She enjoyed sewing and during her lifetime, made many quilts which she gave to relatives, friends and many charities. In addition to her loving husband of almost 65 years, survivors include her sister-in-law, Helen Sharpe and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Velvelora Profota and Esther Prince, eight brothers, John, James, Edward, Perry, Floyd, Arthur, Moses and Ernest, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The funeral service will be 11-30 am Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Melanie Carey of First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to either the church or a charity of one's choice. Age 41, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2008. He was born on may 19, 19678 in Ypsilanti, MI. son of Maurice and Norma Jean (Roberts) Mallion. Survivors include; his daughter Ashley Mallion; his son. William Mallion, Jr. two sisters; Sherra (Dennis) Martin of Florida and Lola (Gary) Dailey of Ypsilanti; three brothers, James (Gwen) Reynolds of Ohio, Robert (Rose) White of New Hampshire and Jonathan White of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral service will be 8-15 pm Friday, August 8, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service, Moore Memorial Chapel with a sunrise burial in Flat Rock Missionary cemetery in Flat Rock, Kentucky on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Maurer, Walter
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born June 22, 1924 in Zurich, Switzerland, the son of Alfred and Olga (Hess) Maurer. In June of 1948, he married Charlotte Zengerle and she preceded him in death in 1985. Walter and Charlotte moved to the United States in the early 1950s and Walter worked at General Motors as a tool and die maker. Walter purchased, rehabilitated and rented out real estate and taught those skills to his son Eric and daughter-in-law Karen. Walter enjoyed swimming, painting, fixing old houses, making jewelry, writing poetry and spending time with his family. Walter is survived by his two sons, Eric (Karen) and Marco (Katelyn) Maurer and grandchildren, Charlotte, Matthew, Emmanuelle, Elijah and Lancelot. In accordance with Walter's wishes, cremation will take place. The memorial mass will be 10-00 am Monday, August 18, 2008 at Holy Trinity Chapel, 511 W. Forest Avenue, Ypsilanti with Fr. Phillip Mayfield as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army. Age 88 died August 12, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born November 14, 1919 in Ann Arbor. Ila retired from the US Post Office in Ann Arbor after 18 years of service. She enjoyed knitting & bead crafting, bird watching, was a sports fanatic, and loved her cat Dufess and Jean's “boys” PACO and Biscuit. She is survived by two daughters Marge (Lloyd) Dicks, Jean Richards, two sons Don (Sandy) Richards and Jim (Donna) Richards, five grandchildren Jeff (Mary Ann) Dicks, Mark Dicks, James Jr. (Debbie) Richards, Sue (Steve) Stumbo, Ericka Richards, seven great grandchildren and good friend Lillian Runyon. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, twin sister Lila Roberts, her parents and granddaughter Cathy Richards. Age 35, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2008. He was born February 13, 1973 in Dearborn, the son of Robert and Carol Ann (Brooks) Robertson. Rodney was a member of the Ypsilanti Moose, Sons of the V.F.W., he loved NASCAR racing and was a U of M fan. Survivors include- one daughter, Brookelynn;; three sons, Tyler, Aaron and Michael; parents, Robert and Carol Robertson of Ypsilanti; sister, Reanae (Dennis) Lezotte of New Boston; two nephews, Grady and William; and his maternal grandfather, Leonard H. Brooks of Ypsilanti. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Frank Radcliff of Oakwood Baptist Church, Saline officiating. Age 79, passed away Friday August 1, 2008 at the Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti. She was born July 29, 1929 in Ypsilanti, Michigan daughter of the late George A. and Thelma E. (Hurt) Milne. Dolores was a 1949 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. On July 9, 1949 she married Herbert D. Schock in Ypsilanti and he survives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti, Order of the Eastern Star chapter # 119 and the Ypsilanti Thrift Shop. In addition to her loving husband Herbert, survivors include one daughter Helen (John) Rushing of Atlanta, MI, Three grandchildren; William (Kristen) Rushing, Jeffrey (Bettina) Taylor and Jason Taylor. Three great-grandchildren; Joshua and Caleb Taylor and Ainsley Rushing. She is also survived by one sister Marilyn (Robert) Smith, one aunt Ileen Pickrem and several other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Herbert D. Schock, III. Funeral Services will be 1-30 pm Monday August 4, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Randy Johnson of First Baptist Church of Ypislanti, officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor. Contributions in her memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti or to the Gilbert Residence. Tackitt, Timothy L. “Tim”
Ypsilanti, MI.
Age 56 passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born on September 30, 1951 in Franklin, Indiana son of Winston and Violet (Sunderland) Tackitt. On February 16, 1975 he married Tina Carver in Indianapolis, Indiana and she survives. Tim was a member of Pine View Church of the Apostolic Faith and worked at UBE Machinery as a consultant. Tim also proudly served in the Army National Guard. Besides his loving wife of 33 years, survivors include; three daughters, Zariah Tackitt of California, Sondra Tackitt of Ypsilanti and Cierra Tackitt of Ypsilanti. Three sons, Leslie Tackitt of Mt. Clemens, Bobby Spivey of Ypsilanti and Robbie Tackitt of Ypsilanti. One granddaughter, Daniella. He is also survived by one sister, Debbie (Larry) two brothers, Stephen (Pat) Tackitt and Garry (Dottie) Tackitt. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Jasmine Tackitt. The funeral service will be 10-00 am Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Pine View Church of the Apostolic Faith 6400 Textile Rd. Ypsilanti with Brother Nathanial Nix, Officiating. Burial will follow in Washtenong Memorial Park, Ann Arbor. Contributions in Tim's memory may be made to the University of Michigan Mott's Childrens Hospital.
