Age 44, passed away suddenly from an automobile accident Sunday, July 27, 2008. She was born August 10, 1963 in Detroit, the daughter of Richard and Mary Louise (Cronenwett) Meek. Karen was a 25-year employee of Eastern MI University and received her Bachelor of Science degree from EMU in 2000. She was the administrative coordinator for Relay for Life. Her passion was all auto racing. Survivors include- her daughter, Melissa Varney of Ypsilanti; father Richard Meek of Ypsilanti; two sisters, Lynn (James) Murphy of Willis and Debra (Paul) Rangos of Ypsilanti; brother, Daryl Meek of Ann Arbor; six nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her mother. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service, Moore Memorial Chapel. Contributions in her memory may be made to Ypsilanti Relay for Life or to the Melissa Varney Scholarship Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 12 noon - 9-00 pm Friday with the rosary being prayed at 7-00 pm. Age 68 passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Saline Evangelical Home. She was born on September 11, 1939 in Ypsilanti, MI daughter of Howard and Eugena (Cheney) Thorpe. On June 11, 1983 Beverly married Jerry White in Saline, Mi and he preceded her in death on January 23, 1991. Bev was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 2250 in Ypsilanti. Survivors include; her daughter, Mary (Adam) Taylor of Ann Arbor, five sons; Michael (Janice)Wright of Wisconsin, Steven (Paula) Johnson of Livonia, Michael (Elaine) Johnson of Ann Arbor, Bruce (Carolyn) Johnson of Northville and James (Julie) Sanders of Ann Arbor. 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. One brother, Fred (Shirley) Burton of Tampa, FL. and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 11-00 am Thursday August 14, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service, Moore Memorial Chapel, Ypsilanti with Rev. Winford French, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery, Ypsilanti. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Wednesday, August 13, 2008.

Age 93, passed away September 25, 2008. Survived by Richard Cross of Ypsilanti, John & Debbie Cross of Dallas and numerous nieces and nephews. Dalton, Donald D.

Age 63, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born August 3, 1945 in Crumpler, WV, the son of Charlie and Nancy (Bailey) Dalton. On March 5, 2007, he married Catherine Vasher in Howell, MI and she survives. Don worked for General Motors, Ypsilanti plant for 29 years. He loved sports, country music and news. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include- three daughters, Malinda (Ken) Biddle of DE, Tanya Church of Romulus and Star Ratliff of Ypsilanti; two sons, Jerry (Lori) Ratliff and Bryan Ratliff, both of Ypsilanti; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; his mother, Nancy Dalton of WV; two sisters, Carla Bailey of VA and Leona Dalton of WV; five brothers, Paris (Wilma) Dalton, Preston (Dottie) Dalton, Frankie (Patty) Dalton, Ray Dalton and Lewis (Linda) Dalton, all of WV; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie, brother, Maynard and sister, Lola. The funeral service will be 1-30 pm Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brent Carlson of Ypsilanti First Wesleyan/Oasis officiating. Burial will take place in Roselawn cemetery, Princeton, WV. Contributions in Don's memory may be made to either the A.L.S. Foundation or donor's choice. Age 25, passed away suddenly Tuesday, October 21, 2008. He was born March 6, 1983 in Ypsilanti, the son of Joseph Dezarov and Trella (Garrett) Ferris. Survivors include- his mother, Trella Ferris; his brothers, Joseph Dezarov and Pete Lazarski; four children, Allison and A.J. Dezarov and their mother, Dawn Dezarov, Cameron and Justin Dezarov and their mother, Lee Ann Wren; maternal grandmother, Vernese Garrett-Willis; aunts, uncles and many cousins. Evans, Alfred E.

Age 88, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2008. He was born June 25, 1920 in Stanton, MI, the son of Emory E. and Amy A. (Riggs) Evans. Mr. Evans retired from the Peninsular Paper Company in 1974. Survivors include- three sons, Edward H. (Donnie J.) Evans, Ronald and Donald Evans; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey (Mary) Evans and Chester (Nova) Evans; and one sister, Alva Shaffer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Bell, two sons, John and Raymond and one brother, Weston. The funeral service will be 1-30 pm Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 pm Friday.

Federer, Wilma G.
Milan, Michigan
Age 84, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital Ann Arbor. Born July 12, 1924 in Maybee, MI to Daniel and Grace (Loudenslager) Rehberg. On May 31, 1946 she married Leonard Federer, Jr. and he survives. Wilma was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Milan and its Dorcas Circle. In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons Eugene (Julia) Hindbaugh of Arizona, Len (Jana) Federer of Milan, Darrell (Christine) Federer of Pennsylvania, two daughters Laurie (David) Groves of Milan, Dana Federer of Ypsilanti, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a brother Donald (Virginia) Rehberg of Georgia. She was preceded in death by three sisters. Visitation will be Friday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan from 3 to 5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held 10-00am Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milan. Burial will follow at Roselawn cemetery in LaSalle, MI. Gatewood, James C.

Age 86, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008. He was born July 8, 1922 in Conway, AR, the son of Earl and Sylvia (Sutton) Gatewood. On April 12, 1944, he married Johnnie L. Williams and she preceded him in death October 6, 2004. He retired as a foreman from Hoover Ball and Bearing. He was a longtime member of the Cross Street Church of Christ, where he formerly served as an elder. He also served as a board member of Michigan Christian College in Rochester, MI and Michigan Christian Youth Camp in Lapeer, MI. Survivors include- three daughters, Annette Gatewood, Joyce (Hubel Jr.) Freeman and Rose Gatewood, all of Ypsilanti, two sons, James A. (Georgia) Gatewood of Ypsilanti and Kenneth (Marilyn) Gatewood of Belleville; eight greandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mozell Kitchen of Hollywood, FL; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Janice Gatewood, three sisters and three brothers. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Saturday, October 25, 2008 at Ypsilanti Church of Christ, 1070 E. Cross Street with Evangelist Gary L. Vaught officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Mr. Gatewood's memory may be made to the church. Envelopes are available at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel where visitation will be 2-4 & 6-9 pm Friday with the family hour from 7-8 pm. There will also be visitation at the church from 10-00 am until time of service Saturday.

Radak, George J.
Milan, MI
Age 95, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Evangelical Home - Saline with his family at his side. He was born April 25, 1913 in Milan, MI to Paul and Sophy Radak. On September 15, 1939 he married Evelyn McLaughlin in Ypsilanti, MI. George served in the Army Air Corp during WWII as a Maintenance Technician. He loved to play baseball, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Evelyn, parents, four brothers, and five sisters. George is survived by one sister, Barbara Calkins, and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. .

Gerstler, Gerald “Jerry”
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 65, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at home. He was born September 4, 1943 in Ann Arbor, the son of Carl and Vera (Tessmer) Gerstler. On August 28, 1965, he married Barbara Fenker in Ypsilanti and she survives. Jerry was a teacher in the Ypsilanti School System for 31 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the T.K.E. Fraternity at Eastern Michigan University. Jerry spent his summers building his home on Beaver Island. He loved to fish with his friends and grandkids. In addition to his loving wife of 43 years, other survivors include- one daughter, Tara (Rich) Noffsinger of Suttons Bay, MI; one son Scott (Michelle) Gerstler of Owosso, MI; three grandchildren, Jake, Lindsey and Theo; one sister, Karen McIntyre of CA; mother-in-law, Cecile “Peg” Fenker of Ypsilanti; two brothers-in-law, Bob (Ruth Ann) Fenker of Indian River and Gary Fenker of Ypsilanti; sister-in-law, Susan Fenker of Ypsilanti; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 1-00 pm October 4, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gordon Moore officiating. Contributions in his memory may be made to either the Humane Society of Huron Valley or St. Joseph Mercy Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 12-00 noon until time of service.

Age 50, passed away Thursday October 9, 2008. He was born June 6, 1958 in Ypsilanti, the son of Lloyd and Ruby (Rhodes) Guest. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne. Survivors include- his girlfriend of 18 years, Aprill Jacobs; three children, Garrett, Mandy and Lee; one sister, Chelby Guest; two brothers, Steve (Diane) Guest and his twin, Jerry (Betty Jo) Guest; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruby Ann Trout. The funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, October 14 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Age 43, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born August 17, 1965 in Norton, VA, the son of Tooney C. and Elizabeth (Davis) Hawkins. Brian worked at TCF Bank, Ann Arbor. Survivors include- his mother, Elizabeth of Ypsilanti; one sister, Susan Rowe of VA; one brother, Robert (Yasmine) Hawkins of Venezuela; two nephews; one niece; and special good friend, Tony Arnold. He was preceded in death by his father. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Saturday, October 4 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 8 in Clintwood, VA with burial in Phipps cemetery in Clintwood.

Helen A. Wittkop, 85
Dundee, Michigan
Died Friday, September 26, 2008, due to an auto accident. Helen was born April 13, 1923, to Nelson & Marilla (Hoopengardner) Lamson. She married John D. Wittkop April 12, 1947, at the Azalia Methodist Church by Rev. Wolf. She graduated from Milan High School. Helen owned and operated a beauty shop in Dundee. She later worked at Ypsilanti State Hospital from 1967 - 1984. Helen enjoyed baking, gardening & preserving, watching baseball and hockey playoffs. She was a member of the Azalia United Methodist Church and the Eastern Stars. She was active in the church's women's group, a 4-H leader, and worked the Euchre games at the Dundee Senior Center for many years. She and her husband square and round danced for 47 years. Helen was predeceased by her parents, a son, Dennis; a brother, Nelson Lamson Jr.; and two sisters, Bernice Lamson and Ethel DeVee. She is survived by her husband, sons David (Joan) and Dale (Lee), a sister, Marjorie Dennison, 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. Visitation will be at the Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan Sunday from 6-00 to 8-00 pm, Monday from 2-00 to 4-00 pm and 6-00 to 8-00 pm. Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11-00 am. Interment will be at the Azalia cemetery following the service. Age 88, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at his home. He was born August 1, 1920 in Knoxville, TN, the son of Earl A. and Ruth (Simpson) Johnson. On November 27, 1946 he married Jean Louise Atkinson, and she survives. He served honorably in the US Navy and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Mr. Johnson was employed by Ford Motor Co., Ypsilanti Plant, for 30 years retiring in 1982. Also surviving are- three sons, Gary (Susan) Johnson of Romulus, Stanley (Michelle) Johnson of Clinton and Wayne (Tina) Johnson of Ypsilanti; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Timothy Johnson in 1988, and two brothers, Maurice and Wilbur Johnson and one sister, Beatrice Roberts. The funeral service will be 2-00 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery, Ypsilanti. Friends may call 6-9 pm Sunday and 2-4 & 6-9 pm Monday.

Age 47, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 22, 2008. He was born April 11, 1961 in Prestonsburg, KY. Bob attended Willow Run High School. He enjoyed riding motorcycles. Survivors include- mother, Maggie; four children, Lynn Johnson, Randy C. Johnson, Ryan C. Johnson and Anne Marie Johnson; one grandson, Te'Ron; one sister, Diane (Billy) Schooler; two brothers, Richard (Donna) Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson; godmother, Amy (Tom Stanley) Fink; and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father Milton and one brother, Randy. In honor of Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place. Private services will be held.

Survivors include- his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Tamiko Lucy and Angela Johnson; one granddaughter, Jasmine Johnson; one brother, Alfred Johnson; and a host of other relatives. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Friday, October 3, 2008 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 1030 Midway Boulevard, Ypsilanti. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 10-00 am until time of service Friday.
