Age 78, died Friday, November 22, 2008. She was born June 18, 1930 to Joseph and Frieda (Brushaber) Hill in Toledo, Ohio. On May 12, 1956 she married Edward F. Bequette in Milan and he survives. Retired from Ford Motor Co., Rawsonville Plant in 1986, Dorothy was a member of Women of the Moose, Ypsilanti and was an avid Bingo player. She is survived by three daughters, Debi (Richard) Lummus of Cape Coral, FL, Tammie (Walt) Morrell of Belleville and Connie Page of Milan, four grandchildren, Josh, Jess, Brad, Amber, three brothers; Manny, Harold Hill all of Saline, Joey of Baldwin, two sisters; Marie Elmer and Mae Landon both of Milan as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Tim Page; and one brother Ted. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Sunday from 6 to 8 pm and Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the funeral home with burial following at Udell cemetery Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. .

Ellerson, Beverly A.
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 54, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2008 following an extended illness. She was born August 20, 1954 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Seoilure and Louella (Blackwell) Ellerson. Beverly was employed by General Motors Powertrain plant for 30 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of SSILFF (Sisters, Sisters-in-law, Family and Friends). Survivors include- one son, Eddie (Crystal) Ellerson; two granddaughters, Denasia and Alyxice; and a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Friday, November 28 at Abundant Life Church, 855 Clark Road, Ypsilanti with Elder Curtis Reed officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Thursday at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. The family hour will be at the church from 10 am until time of service Friday.

Evans, Walter B.
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 76, passed away Friday, November 28, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born August 27, 1932 in Scottsboro, AL, the son of Walter B. and Lula (Hall) Evans. Walter worked for Pioneer High School for ten years as a custodian. He was a member of Ypsilanti Eagles #2250 and loved football and playing cards. Survivors include- five daughters, Faye, Linda, Shannon, Jean and Jennifer; one son, Kenneth; loving partner, Diana; eighteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 & 6-9 pm Friday.

Harrison, Robert E. “Bob”
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 67, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at home. He was born September 16, 1941 in Camden, TN, the son of Herman and Sarah (Ward) Harrison. On November 26, 1960, he married Charlotte Beavers in Southgate and she survives. Bob worked at Maintenance One Inc. for over twenty years and is a member of Open Arms Lutheran Church. In addition to his loving wife, Charlotte of 48 years, survivors include- two daughters, Annette (Malcolm) Davis of Sand Lake, MI and Lynnette (Brian) Kuszak of Belleville; one son, Kirt (Rachael) Harrison of Belleville; eight grandchildren; one great grandson; two sisters, Mary Gibson of Warren and Martha (Bob) Seay of Belleville; two brothers, John Harrison of Taylor and Tom (Dee) Harrison of Melvindale; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a half sister. The funeral service will be 2-00 pm Friday, December 12 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Beverly Marr officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Contributions in Bob's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 1-8 pm Thursday.

Horvath, Stephen E.
Milan, MI
Age 53, died December 4, 2008 at home. He was born August 10, 1955 in Ann Arbor to Michael and Barbara (Ransom) Horvath. Steve was a 1973 graduate of Milan and retired as sergeant of the Huron Valley Men's Correctional Facility in August. He was a loving and devoted father who enjoyed being involved with his children's activities including coaching Little League and soccer. He also was an avid card player. Steve is survived by his children, Christopher (Franchesca), Nicholas, Courtney and Gabriel, his mother Barbara Cole, a brother Robert (Judy), his former wife and dear friend Necia and her mother Louise Jackson. Friends may call at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Monday 5-8pm and Tuesday 3-8pm where services will be held 11-00am. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Contributions may be made to his children.

Johnson, James E. Jr. “June Bug”
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 63, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008. He was born July 3, 1945 in Ypsilanti, the son of James E. and Pearline (Pitts) Johnson Sr. Mr. Johnson retired from Detroit Edison after 24 years of service. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 718 N. Prospect, Ypsilanti with Pastor Garther Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Tuesday at Stark Funeral Service with the family hour from 7-8 pm. There will also be visitation at the church from 10-00 am until time of service Wednesday.

Kennedy, Lorne Vernon Jr.
Ypsilanti, MI
On Sunday, December 7, 2008 Lorne was called home by the Lord at age 80. He was born November 11, 1928 at Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti, MI, the son of Lorne V. and Nellie Elizabeth (Briggs) Kennedy. He was a lifelong resident of Ypsilanti, graduating from Ypsilanti High School. He attended Eastern Michigan University, where he met his wife of 57 years, Grace G. (Braun) Kennedy. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church since 1951. Lorne was a musician for 70 years. He was an amateur radio operator (W8ZCG) for 64 years. Lorne retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 37 years and he also repaired TVs and radios. He was a pilot and member of the Ann Arbor Flyers Club, an active cyclist, skier and worked with the Boy Scouts, being a member of both the Sea Scouts and Boy Scouts. Lorne was currently a member of ten bands, the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Men's Club, was active in ELC Social Concerns activities and was a faithful Christian. In addition to his loving wife, survivors include- five children, Jon (fiancee Sindy Collins) of Belleville, Karl (Michele) of Saline, Bruce (Kris) of CA, Lynn (Paul) Ferne and Lee (Rev. Daniel) Ruff, both of OH; ten grandchildren, Kevin (Cassie), Kenneth (Lori), J.J., Travis, Bryan, Jacob, Tristan, Nathan, Bruce and Aaron; seven great-grandchildren, Ginny, Ethan, Ricky, Ally, Trevor, Matthew and Rylee; and brothers-in-law, Howard and Kelven Braun, both of Saline. He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Erin. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Friday, December 12 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 201 N. River Street, Ypsilanti with Rev. David Hendricks officiating. Contributions in Lorne's memory may be made to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Food Pantry or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Envelopes will be available at Stark Funeral Service where family will receive friends 6-9 pm Wednesday, 2-4 pm Thursday and at the church from 10-00 am until time of service Friday. At 7-30 pm Thursday evening, the Ypsilanti Community Band and Ypsilanti Community Choir will perform their annual Christmas Concert, dedicated this year to Lorne at Pease Auditorium on the EMU campus.

Lehman, Earl E.
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 92, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 at his home. He was born January 10, 1916 in Lima Township, the son of Elmer C. and Ella A. (Mayer) Lehman. Earl lived his entire life in Washtenaw County. He lived the early years of his life on the family farm on Lehman Road in Sharon Township. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1933 and in 1936, he came to Ypsilanti to attend Cleary College. After graduating from college, he went to work for Gene Butman Ford Sales, formerly the E.G. Wiedman Auto Company, where he held the position of Parts Manager. Earl retired in 1981 after 44 years of employment. On August 25, 1943 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Chelsea, he married Twyla A. Kendall of St. Charles, MI and after almost 65 years of marriage, she preceded him in death July 28, 2008. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti. Survivors include- one sister, Helen C. Sharpe; nephews, Douglas Engers, Dennis Engers and Stephen Engers; niece, Debra Miller; fourteen of Twyla's nieces and nephews; and many grand- nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Engers; brothers-in-law, William Engers and Glendon Sharpe; and nephew, Richard Sharpe. The funeral service will be 1-00 pm Friday, November 28, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ray Mondragon of First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 12-30 pm until time of service Friday.

Lockhart, Lois “Mae”
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 76, passed away suddenly Monday, December 1, 2008 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born May 30, 1932 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Harry and Emma (Stillwill) Wiler. On July 26, 1952, she married L.J. Lockhart in Detroit and he preceded her in death August 22, 1998. Mae was a loving mother and housewife. Survivors include- four daughters, Nikki Himler and Jeannie Caldwell, both of Ypsilanti, Vonda (Jack) Wieczorek of Belleville and Cheryl (Michael) Almond of Ypsilanti; one son, Larry (Linda) Lockhart of Ann Arbor; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy of Mayville and Ruth Ann (Richard) Heathcliff of Mayville; one brother, Leonard (Kay) Wiler of Mayville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Lou, one daughter, Brenda Harrington and one grandson, Rodney. The funeral service will be 2-00 pm Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kent Jennings of Immanuel Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in North Grove cemetery, Mayville, MI. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 4-9 pm Friday.

Matthews, Sandra Kay (Davis)
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 58, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 following an extended illness. She was born February 14, 1950 in Ypsilanti, MI, the daughter of Newton and Virginia (Harwood) Davis. Sandy was a 1968 graduate of Lincoln High School. On July 4, 1974, she married Mike Matthews and he survives. Sandy worked several years with her parents at State Farm Insurance. She also owned and operated Crystal Cards, a sports card shop in Ypsilanti. In addition to her loving husband of 34 years, survivors include- her mother and stepfather, Virginia and Charles Davis-Brown; one son, Robin Dale Matthews; one brother, Daniel (Theresa) Davis; nephew, Daniel (Laura) Davis II; two nieces, Jessica Davis and Elizabeth Isaacson; foster son, Adam Jorge Clark; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Newton Davis. The memorial service will be 11-00 am Wednesday December 10 at Stony Creek United Methodist Church, 8635 Stony Creek Road, Ypsilanti. Contributions in Sandy's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the church where family will receive friends after 10-00 am Wednesday.

Owens, Kenny
Ann Arbor, MI
Age 36, passed away suddenly Sunday, December 14, 2008 at home. He was born April 15, 1972 in Ypsilanti, the son of John and Cynthia (Barnabei) Owens. Kenny worked at McDonalds on Carpenter Road for over three years. He graduated from Dexter High School in 1990. Survivors include- his parents, John and Cynthia Owens of Whitmore Lake; one brother, Clinton (Peggy) Owens of Hamburg; one niece, Kaylie; one nephew, Alex; and his maternal grandparents, Frank and June Barnabei of AZ. Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be 3-00 pm Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Beverly Marr officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-00 pm until time of service Thursday.

Payer, Mary Ann
Ypsilanti Township, MI
Age 54, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008. She was born April 30, 1954 in Charlotte, MI, the daughter of Joseph Sabino and Norma Maxine (Lett) Martinez. She was the eldest of six children. She had a nurturing instinct and at an early age helped raise her siblings. Mary was always reaching out and thinking of others, putting her own matters aside. She was a 1972 graduate of Waverley High School. On October 23, 1983, she married Lloyd John Payer and he survives. Mary worked several different jobs, but her main and most rewarding job was being a great mother and wife. She was very outspoken and humorous person and she spread her laughter and love throughout the community. She will always be our “Bingo Mary.” In addition to her loving husband of 25 years, survivors include- three children, April (Brian) Seaman, Stella Payer and Joseph Payer; one grandson, Toby Seaman; two brothers, Bill and John (Norma) Martinez; three sisters, Debbie (Juan) Centenod, Monica Martinez and Carol Martinez; her stepmother, Susan Martinez; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be 4-00 pm Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Cremation will follow. Family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8-00 pm Monday and from 2-00 pm until time of service Tuesday.

Postiff, Clayton W.
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 84, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Saline Evangelical Home. He was born November 13, 1924 in Detroit, the son of Raymond and Mary-Bell (Stark) Postiff. Clayton served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Army Tank Division. On June 19, 1946, he married Patricia Petty in Detroit and she preceded him in death November 8, 2008. Clayton was a former member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church, where he was the missionary treasurer. He was an office manager for Marsh Plating for 15 years, retiring in 1990. Survivors include- two daughters, Christine (Herbert) Brooks of GA and Marlene (Merrill) Collins of Milan; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Joel Rieman. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dr. Dan Handin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 4-8 pm Wednesday.

Age 55, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2008. She was born March 21, 1953 in Peru, IN, the daughter of Norman and Frances (Mellinger) Trexler. Mrs. Rose was employed by Ford Motor Company, Ypsilanti plant for 31 years, retiring in 2002. Survivors include- two children, Steven (Crystal) Rose and Jennifer Rose; six grandchildren, Ben, Sami, Dylan, Steven, Devon and Hailey Rose; and one niece, Brittney Trexler. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jeff Trexler. Private services will be held. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 30200 Telegraph Road, Suite 105, Bingham Farms, MI 48025. Arrangements handled through Stark Funeral Service.

Shepherd. Irene F.
Central City, KY (formerly of Ypsilanti)
Age 89, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008. She was born July 21, 1919 in Wayne, MI, the daughter of Beryl and Eva (Murnighan) Young. On September 4, 1961, she married Maurice R. Shepherd and he preceded her in death July 4, 2005. She loved to play bingo and all types of card games. She was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister and friend. Survivors include- two sons, Joseph (Naudine) Beard of Lewiston, MI and Roy David (Shirley) Beard of Central City, KY; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; cousin, Gerald (Norma) Murnighan; niece, Kathy (Carl) Wegener; and nephew, Dick (Beth) Wolf. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Virginia Wolf. The funeral service will be 2-00 pm Monday, November 24 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Alban cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends 2-5 pm Sunday.

Spencer, Pearl H.
Milan, MI
Age 93, died December 2, 2008 at Saline Evangelical Home. She was born August 4, 1915 in Milan Twp., to Burns and Zola (Mead) Spencer. She was a 1933 graduate of Milan High School. Pearl worked on the family farm most of her life, was an Avon Representative in the Milan area and was employed with Whitehall Convalescent Home. She was a member of the Milan Baptist Church and a Watchcare member of Sahuaro Baptist Church in Tucson, AZ. Pearl is survived by a niece Kathleen Spencer of Milan, nephew Robert Spencer of Grand Rapids, two great nephews Jeffrey and Jonathan, three great-nieces Jennifer, Kristen and Kelsey and three great-great-nieces. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Mead, sister Ruth and niece Suzanne Spencer. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Wednesday from 6-8pm and Thursday 2-8pm. Funeral services will be held Friday with visitation from 10am until time of service at 11am at Milan Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Strader officiating. Burial will follow at Rice cemetery, Milan Twp. Contributions may be made to the Milan Baptist Church.

Stamper, Steven L.
Saline, MI
Age 53, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Thursday, November 27, 2008. He was born August 23, 1955 in Rockwood, MI to Charles and Betty Lou (Reitan)Stamper. On December 23, 2003 he married Emily Rachel Anaya and she survives. Steve graduated from Carlton-Airport High School where he was an all state athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He then graduated from E.M.U.where he played basketball. He was the longest serving chairman of the Milan Ford Plastic's Plant of Local 600 where he was employed for over 30 years. He was a loyal and devoted official who was one of the smartest and wittiest chairman in the system of the U.A.W., Steve was also an avid golfer, lifelong fan of U. of M. football and an amazing friend to all. He was well respected and loved by both his family and colleagues. Steven was deeply loved and cherished by his survivors, wife Emily, his six week old son Charles William and his twenty six year old son, Christopher Charles, his loving mother Betty Lou, a brother Chuck and five sisters, Suzanne, Jacquie, Margie, Barbara and Carolyn. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister Mary. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Tuesday from 6-8pm and Wednesday from 1-4 and 6-8pm. and Thursday from 9-00am until the time of service. Funeral services will begin at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan on Thursday at 10-00am followed by procession to St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Saline for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11-00am. In Lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to the Charles William Stamper Scholarship Fund in care of Emily Anaya-Stamper.
