Age 72, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born February 15, 1936 in Detroit, the son of Frank and Germaine (VanLeuvenhage) Manners. On November 6, 1965, he married Peggy Doyle in Detroit and she survives. Frank was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He worked at Ford Motor Company, Ypsilanti plant for 43 years. In addition to his loving wife, Peggy of 43 years, survivors include- one daughter, Dorene (Shawn) Shock of Belleville; one son, Mark Manners of Ypsilanti; two grandchildren, Shawna and Kyle; two brothers, Richard (Marion) Manners of Pinckney and Gerald Manners of Belleville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral mass will be 11-00 am Saturday, January 17, 2008 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, 1301 S. Harris Road, Ypsilanti with Fr. Bob Roggenbuck as celebrant. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel 4-8 pm Friday.

Parks, Sandra Lee
Milan, MI
Age 62, died Thursday morning, January 8, 2009 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born August 2, 1946 in Clyde, Ohio to Robert and Edith (Wilkerson) Hurlburt. On May 11, 1974 she married George Parks in Akron, Ohio and he survives. Sandy was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Milan where she was the secretary and bookkeeper for the past eleven years. She was an amazing cook and treasured being a mom. She dedicated her life to her family and church and was always there for whoever needed her. Survivors besides her husband include four daughters; Heather, Patty, Amy and Kim, two brothers William and Brian (Debbie), and two sisters Diane and Helen (Ken) Spahr. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Eddie. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Tuesday from 4-8pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm where a scripture service will be held Wednesday evening at 7-30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday at 11-00am Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contributions to the Parks Trust fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or through Monroe Bank & Trust, Milan.

Pratt, Mollie
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 79, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Huron Woods. She was born May 18, 1929 in Hazard, KY, the daughter of John and Allie (Whitaker) Campbell. On December 24, 1951, she married Isaac Pratt in Cornnetsville, KY and he preceded her in death March 3, 2006. She went to Jackson College and then taught elementary school in Kentucky. In 1951, she moved to Detroit, MI and first worked at Grace Hospital, later working at the old Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti. She then moved to Ann Arbor and was employed at Milan Plastics. Survivors include- three children, Marilyn Jenkins of Ypsilanti; Michael (Mira) of California and Kevin (Colette) Pratt of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren, Melissa, and Jeffrey Jenkins, Amanda, Adam, and Michael Pratt and Ryan and Eric Pratt; one brother, Earl (Cora) Campbell; and a host of other family and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and four brothers. Contributions in her memory may be made to Huron Woods, P.O. Box 995, Ann Arbor, MI 48106-0995. Envelopes are available at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends 1-4 & 6-9 pm Wednesday. The funeral service and burial will take place in Whitaker, KY.

Sanders, Murray H.
Saline, Michigan
Age 91, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Saline Evangelical Home. He was born August 28, 1917 in Carlisle Twp, Ohio to Elwin and Rena (Murray) Sanders. On June 24, 1947 he married Mary Ellen Kendall in Hastings, Michigan and she survives. Murray was a Master Technician Sergeant for Marine Air Corp in the South Pacific during WWII and attended Ohio State University Agriculture School. He worked for Peninsular Paper Co. of Ypsilanti retiring in 1981 and had a passion for farming. Murray was the longest standing member of York Baptist Church, member of VFW in Milan and American Legion. Besides his wife Mary he is survived by a son Tracy of Saline, two daughters Amy (Dave) Shankleton-Novess of Milan, Nina (David) Lumsford of Britton, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, one brother and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his five brothers and sisters. Visitation will be tonight from 5-8pm and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan where services will be held Thursday at 1-30pm. Burial following at Riverside cemetery in Clinton. Contributions may be made to the family.

Clara Edith (Burget) Sanford,
age 89 of Maybee, MI went to be in the loving arms of Jesus on January 10, 2009. She had been a patient at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. She was born March 15, 1919 in Cloverdale, Ohio to Charles and Ethel (Leist) Burget. On October 30, 1942 she married Cecil Kenneth Sanford and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1985. Edith was a member of the Milan Free Methodist Church the WMFI and a lifetime member of the Monroe County Fair. She spent winters in Lakeland, Florida with her husband Kenneth at the Light & Life Camp. Her hobbies include gardening, crocheting and ceramics. Edith's witty sense of humor will be fondly remembered by many. Survivors include her daughter Carol of Maybee, sons; Larry (Eunice) of Howell, Leonard of Maybee and Lonny (Sue) of Milan, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a son-in-law Dean Anderson of Carleton and a sister-in-law Elsie Burget of Ypsilanti. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Sally Anderson, two brothers; Allan and Orlo Burget and a sister Beatrice Schassburger Masson. The family will receive friends at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan (today) Sunday and Monday from 3-7pm. and at the Milan Free Methodist Church on Tuesday from 1-00pm until the time of service at 2-00pm. Burial will follow in London cemetery, London Twp., MI

Searfoss, Shirley L.
Milan, MI
Age 77 died January 14, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was born November 20, 1931 in Milan to Clarence and Phyllis Jane (Ferrington) Searfoss. Shirley worked as office manager for various automotive dealerships. She is survived by a sister Aila (James) LeBaron of Milan, a sister-in-law Patricia Searfoss of Maine, nieces and nephews; Cindy (Bill) Anders, Kelly, Todd and Alice LeBaron, Thurston and Lanianna Searfoss. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Don and a nephew Scott. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11-00am. Burial will follow at a later date.

Sharma, Pushpa
Ypsilanti, MI
Age 57, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009. She was born December 6, 1951 in Nimach, India. Mrs. Sharma obtained a B.S. degree in science and her Masters degree in Hindi literature. On May 2, 1974 she married Natthi Sharma, and he survives. She was a member of the International Women's Organization of Ann Arbor. Pushpa enjoyed reading Hindi, cooking and knitting. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and homemaker. In addition to her devoted husband of 34 years, survivors include- two loving children, Manish (Aditi) Sharma and Deepti (Matthew Leach) Sharma; two brothers and one sister. The family will receive friends after 10-30 am Wednesday, January 14, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel, Ypsilanti. The funeral service will begin at 12-00 noon Wednesday. Cremation will follow.

Towler, Darlee J.
Milan, Michigan
Age 47, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008. She was born April 18, 1961 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of John and Joanne (Hearn) Baker. She was a 1979 graduate of Huron High School. On June 4, 1983, she married Pat Towler and he survives. Darlee has been employed by the University of Michigan for 27 years. Her hobbies were tennis and running. In addition to her loving husband of 25 years, survivors include- her parents of Ypsilanti; two daughters, Sandy and Sarah Towler; three brothers, John, Alvin (Kathy) and Rob Baker; one sister, Jolyn Baker; and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie. A special thanks to Marcia, Leslie, tennis friends, soccer and swim moms. The memorial service will be 4-00 pm Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 2 pm until time of service Saturday.

West, Carolyn Lee (Watkins)

Age 53, daughter of Loyd (deceased) and Ola Watkins, passed away December 25 2008, following a courageous battle against cancer. She was born February 22, 1955 in Ypsilanti, received her bachelor's degree and worked as a registered nurse. Besides her mother she is survived by her sons, John and Jacob; husband, James West; her sisters, Mary (Bill) Rasmussen, Jo Gardner, Linda Watkins, and Brenda Findsen; nieces and nephews, Tricia (Brian) White, Derek (Jennifer) Campbell, Danielle Findsen and Sara Findsen; and grand-nieces and -nephews. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Sunday, December 28, 2008 from 6-00 p.m. - 9-00 p.m. and Monday from 10-00am until the time of service at 11-00am. followed by interment at Arborcrest cemetery, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Those desiring may make contributions to Arbor Hospice.

Austin, Jeffrey J.
Milan, MI
Age 36 died February 5, 2009 at home. He was born December 30, 1972 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to James E. and Wilma L. (Bowen) Austin. On June 29, 1996 he married Erin Dwyer in Saline and she survives. Jeff was a 1996 graduate of GMI. He worked for ZF Industries and Johnson Controls of Plymouth prior to working for Syron Engineering. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons Quinn J. and William R. both at home, his father James of Milan, sister Kathy (John) Cooper of Tipton, and their children Cody, Samantha and Lorie. He was preceded in death by his mother. The family will receive friends at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Tuesday from 4-8pm where a memorial service will be held at 7-00pm. Burial will follow at a later date in London cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to his children in care of his wife Erin.

Bonds, Vicki L.
Saline, MI
Age 53, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at University Hospitals in Ann Arbor. She was born June 4, 1955 in Gary, Indiana to Robert L. and Violet J. (Williams) Bonds. Vicki ran a daycare from her home in W. Virginia for many years before moving to Michigan. Her joy in life came from spending time with her family. She is survived by her mother Violet Grounds of Giles, W. Virginia, her daughter Mandy Foster of Saline and sons Kevin (Nicole) Riffe of Goose Creek, S. Carolina, Joseph Foster, Jr. of Willis, MI, two grandchildren Hannah and Abigail Riffe, sisters Darla (Rodney) Atkinson, Lily (Billy) Rose, brothers Robert and David (Barb) Bonds and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Robert, stepfather Ray Grounds and sisters Johanna Foster and Doris Greene. Visitation will be at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Sunday from 5-8pm. Graveside services will be held 1-00pm Tuesday at Foster cemetery in Dawes, W. Virginia.

Coburn-Stevens, Nancy

Age 71 died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born July 20, 1937 in Ypsilanti to William J. and Bertha C. (Helzerman) Wilde. On September 27, 1968 she married H. Mack Coburn in Ypsilanti and he preceded her in death on December 21, 1993. On October 6, 2006 she married William Stevens in Ottawa Lake and he survives. Nancy was employed with Kemner-Iott Insurance Agency in Adrian and a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh. She volunteered for many community services including Relay for Life, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and American Red Cross. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Steven and Shelly Coburn of Milan, two grandchildren Beth and Nicholas, her husband William and his sons Craig (Dianna), Hugh (Robin), Mike (Ute), eight step-grandchildren, a brother William (Pat) Wilde and his children Joyce (Steve) Wilde-Renwick, Mark (Mary) Wilde, Eric (Kathy) Lund-Wilde, David (Yvonne) Wilde and Bill Wilde, a special sister-in-law Helen (Wesley) Puckett and her children Pattie Bailey, Michael (Lori) Puckett and Tina (Paul Bartlett) Puckett and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Mack she was preceded in death by her parents, a special uncle Carl Helzerman and a dear nephew Steven W. Puckett. Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-9pm where a rosary will recited at 7-30pm. Funeral prayers will begin at the funeral home on Thursday at 10-15am with procession to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Milan for Mass at 11-00am. Burial will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Adrian. Contributions may be made to Relay for Life, Milan.

Age 78, died Monday, January 26, 2009. The funeral service will be 11-00 am Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Burning Bush Church, 2069 Tyler Road, Ypsilanti with Pastor Don Shelby Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in United Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel and the family hour will be at the church from 10 am until time of service Saturday.

Age 70, died February 4, 2009 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Ann Arbor with her family by her side. She was born April 9, 1938 in Ann Arbor to John S. and Ann Marie (Neckel) Hartmann. Mary Lou was a custodian for the University of Michigan for many years. She loved raising and showing her Arabian horses. Her hobbies included making rosaries, crocheting, reading and working on the family tree. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan. Mary Lou is survived by three brothers Richard (Mary), Michael (Carmelita), both of Milan, Joseph (Gloria) Hartmann of Dundee, two sisters Eileen Vaughn and Kathleen (Richard) Westerbrink of Rockford, MI, 11 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Katherine and brother James. Visitation at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan will be tonight from 5-9pm where a Chaplet and Rosary will be recited at 7-30pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Milan with Fr. Vincent VanDoan officiating. Burial will follow at Marble Park cemetery.

Age 80, passed away Monday, January 26, 2009. She was born April 8, 1928 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Thedford and Dorothy (Coleman) Vealey. She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2250. Elaine was a loving mother, grandmother and caretaker. Survivors include- three daughters, Carla Williams and Debbie Hovatter, both of Panama City, FL and Shelley Clift of Aurora, MO; one son, James (Beth) Lindner of Ann Arbor; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Brooks of FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Harris, grandson, Ryon Todd and two brothers, James and Richard “Dale” Vealey. The funeral service will be 1-00 pm Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Contributions in Elaine's memory may be made to the Area Agency on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 11-00 am until time of service Thursday.
