Paul J. Bailey
01/07/1923 - 06/05/2012
Paul J. Bailey, age 89, of Britton, passed away to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. He was born January 7, 1923 in Fairfield, Michigan, the son of Harrison and Lulu (Palmer) Bailey. On November 28, 1941, Paul married his high school sweetheart, Ruth M. Bailey. They graduated together from Britton High School.
Paul has been a resident of the Britton areas most of his life, living on their farm since 1947. Paul was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Britton.
As a youth, Paul worked on the Henry Ford farm and had lunch one day with Mr. Ford in his Macon home. Besides farming, Paul worked at Tecumseh Products, Revco in Deerfield for 17 years, and Ford Motor Company in Saline from which he retired after 18 years. He was a Boy Scout leader, baseball pitcher (which he loved) for Britton; and an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. He always took pride in his garden which he happily shared with all his family and friends. He was also famous for witching wells for friends.
Paul is survived by his two daughters, Diane (Bill) Brooks of Angola, IN, and Carol (Bill, deceased) Parias of Tecumseh; one son, Troy (Debra) Bailey of Saline; one daughter-in-law Shirley Bailey; one brother, Harry Bailey of Arkansas; several grand and great-grandchildren, step-grand and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Bailey; his parents; a son, David Bailey; an infant son, Phillip; infant granddaughter, Deanna; two brothers, Albert Bailey and Edward Bailey; and a sister, Agnes Sturtevant.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Richard E. Burstall officiating; the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Ridgeway cemetery. Paul requested memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church of Britton. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Allen Balinski, nurses and staff of Cambrian Assisted Living, Tecumseh, the staff of Hospice of Lenawee, Rev. Richard Burstall, and all family and friends who offered prayers and well wishes.

Edith L. Cey
08/10/1915 - 06/06/2007
Edith L. Cey, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away on June 6, 2007 after a short illness at the home of her caregiver and good friend, Linda Jurasek.
Edith, the fourth child of William and Ellen Truesdale, was born in Clinton on August 10, 1915. She graduated fro Clinton High School in 1933 and then attended Michigan Normal College, receiving a teaching degree in elementary education. She married William J. Cey in 1946 and taught elementary school in both West Branch and Brooklyn, Michigan. Edith was a lifelong Clinton resident.
She is survived by her loving son Tom Cey and his wife Barbara of Onsted and three grandchildren: Blake Cey of Chapel Hill, NC, Kyle Cey of San Diego, CA, and Kim Cey of Ypsilanti. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, a brother William Truesdale, two sister Alma Aten and Mildred Gasner.
Edith will be dearly remembered as a kind, caring, gentle and loving mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
Burial has taken place in Riverside cemetery in Clinton. Arrangements were entrusted to Handler Funeral Homes.

Boyden A. Musser
04/11/1921 - 06/11/2007
Boyden A. Musser, 87 of Clinton, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at Tendercare of Adrian. He was born April 11, 1920 the son of David Alaric and Bertha (Anderson) Musser. He was married to Naomi Bedford and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2003.
Boyden was a life long resident of Clinton where he was a member of the Clinton VFW and American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the amateur ham radio club of Adrian. He was an avid political activist and spoke often on Party Line on WLEN Radio.
Boyden is survived by two daughters, Carol (Richard) King of Tipton and Luann Musser of Tempe, AZ; one sister, Marlys (William) Dusenbury of West Chester, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Tara and Amber King. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert and one sister, Iola.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Friday, June 15 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Clayton Carn officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14 from 6- 8 P.M. at the funeral home and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until service time.

Lucille Hart
10/06/1907 - 06/12/2007
Lucille N. Hart, age 99, of Tecumseh died Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Tendercare of Adrian. She was born October 6, 1907 in Peshtigo, WI, the daughter of Carl and Julia (Conant) Hart. On July 18, 1957 she was married to Neville Hart and he preceded her in death on November 10, 1979.
Lucille was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Golden Cross Circle of Tecumseh. She was also a member of Herrick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the President 1964-1966 and President of the Neville L. Hart Pool Fund 1980-1990 and built the Tecumseh Memorial Pool.
Lucille is survived by one grandson, Brad (Stacie) Crosier of Adrian; one granddaughter, Elizabeth (Evan) Crosier of Tecumseh; one great-grandson, Tyler Clymer of Tecumseh, and many nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, and friends everywhere. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Sandra Crosier, four brothers, and two sisters.
The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tecumseh with Rev. Richard Mortimer officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14 from 6-8 P.M. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes and again at the church of Friday from 1:00 P.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Herrick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or Hospice of Lenawee.

Felipe M. Valdes
05/26/1922 - 06/20/2007
Felipe M. Valdes, Sr., age 85 of Adrian, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007 in Lynwood Manor, Adrian. He was born May 26, 1922 in Houston, TX, the son of Miguel and Luz (Macias) Valdes. He married Bernarda Leal on October 25, 1941 and she preceded him in death on May 17, 1999.
Felipe worked at the Tecumseh Products for 32 years until retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Templo Bethania in San Benito, TX and the Miracle Temple, Adrian. He enjoyed doing carpentry work, watching and playing baseball and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his five sons; Felipe (Vera) Valdes, Jr., Luis (Marina) Valdes, Adam (Denise) Valdes all of Tecumseh, MI, John (Blanca) Valdes of LaFeria, TX and Abel Valdes of Brownsville, TX, two daughters; Esperanza Hernandez of Ypsilanti and Consuelo (Terry) Demlow of Ridgeway, MI, one brother Carlos Valdes and one sister Lupe Valdes, both of Mexico., eighteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Felipe was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held at the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home in Brownsville, TX. Local arrangements were entrusted to Handler Funeral Homes.

Tom M. Underwood
10/12/1954 - 06/29/2007
Tom M. Underwood, 52, of Manchester, died Friday, June 29, 2007 unexpectedly at his home. He was born October 12, 1954 in Tecumseh, the son of William Theodore and Doris Ilene (Rhees) Underwood. On July 3, 2003 he was married to Pamela (Schweikert) Lounsbery and she survives.
Tom was employed at Associated Springs in Saline. He was an avid antique car show participant and enjoyed bowling in his spare time. Tom was a loving family man and friend and will be deeply missed.
In addition to his wife Pamela, Tom is survived by one step-son, Charlie (Lisa) Lounsbery of Jackson; one step-daughter Lisa Lounsbery of Jackson; three brothers, Ted (Helen) Underwood of Adrian, Jim (Julie) Underwood of Addison, and Tim (Brenda) Underwood of Adrian; one sister, Marsha (Terry) Kershner of Clinton; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 2 at the Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Pastor Thomas Uphaus of Clinton United Church of Christ will officiate. Interment will follow in Brookside cemetery in Tecumseh.

H. Maynard Lucas

H. Maynard Lucas, age 90 of Richardson, TX, formerly of Tecumseh, died Friday, June 15, 2007 in the home of his daughter Susan with his wife and her by his side. He was born March 20, 1917 in Imlay City, MI, the son of Hersey D. and Lena (Shidzic) Lucas. He was united in marrage to Barbara Thielan on January 12, 1942. and she survives.
Maynard was a Graduate of Wayne High School in Wayne, MI and had attended Michigan State University. He was a District Manager for Tecumseh Products and was responsible for setting up new offices in Atlanta and Dalls for the Products until retiring. He was a member of the Plano Bible Chapel in Plano, TX, was a past member of the Tecumseh Rotary Club and the Tecumseh United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his wife, Maynard is survived by his two sons; Kent (Linda) Lucas of Lake Charles, LA, and Kirk (Carol) Lucas of Clinton, three daughters; Robin (Doug) Hodges of Dallas, TX, Susan (Reverend Brent) Heggerty of Warren, NJ, and Marcia (Reverend David) Nagel of Jakarta, Indonesia, two sisters; Marie Harrison of Farminton Hills, MI and Elizabeth Kreikard of Kalamazoo, MI, sixteen grandchildren; Renee (Tom) Burke, Kevin (Tiffany), Mark (Jesse), Eric (Beth), Jason (Sherry), Justin & Melissa Lucas, Katherine, Christian & Allison Hodges, Erin, Tyler & Lauren Haggerty, Lindsey, Michelle & Jordan Nagel and nine great grandchildren; Jordan Burke, Daniel Klemkosky, Kevin Jr., Matthew, Evan, Brendan, Genevieve, Alanan & Caleb Lucas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Thursday, June 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Brent Haggerty his son-in-law, officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh.

Dorothy J. Murphy

Dorothy J. Murphy, age 81 of Tecumseh, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family and cat, Bo Bo. She was born in Palmyra, MI, the daughter of Walter and Louise (Iffland) Engel.On June 22, 1946 she was married to Jim Murphy and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2003.
Dorothy was a member of the Tecumseh United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Irene Circle. She was also a member of Herrick Medical Center Auxiliary. She worked as a retail clerk for J. C. Penney Co. in Adrian, D & C Variety Store in Tecumseh, Bird and Company in Tecumseh, and British Pantry in Tecumseh for 40 years, choosing never to retire. Dorothy delivered Meals on Wheels, was a Girl Scout Leader for 6 years, and a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Drives. She enjoyed spending time at their lake cottage for 49 years.
She is survived by her son Dan (Linda) Murphy and her daughter Cinda (Duane) Brooks both of Tecumseh; one sister, Hazel (Lee) Kayner of Tecumseh; four grandchildren, Rhonda (Martin) Miller, Wendy (Lon) Randolph, and Nathan and Kelly Murphy; four great grand children Tyler and Matthew Miller and Jacob and Taylor Randolph; and one step-great granddaughter, Laura Miller. In addition to her husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by her parents, and one granddaughter, Melissa Murphy. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Thursday, February 26 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM. The Funeral Service will be at the Tecumseh United Methodist Church on Friday, February 27 at 11:00 AM with Rev. David McKinstry officiating. Burial will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh. There will be visitation at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tecumseh United Methodist Church, Lenawee County Humane Society, American Heart Association, or Hospice of Lenawee.

Margery G. Root
08/30/1923 - 02/24/2009
Margery G. Root, age 85 of Tecumseh, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Tecumseh Place with her family by her side. She was born on August 30, 1923, in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Frank A. and Della (Hughes) Garvey. She married Dan Sidney Root on June 27, 1953.
Margery worked as a secretary at Siena Heights College and retired after 17 years of service in 1993. She was a graduate of Nordin Academy in Buffalo, NY and continued her education by attending classes at Siena Heights College, Adrian.
In addition to her husband Dan, Margery is survived by five sons, Dan Shawn Root of Adrian, Larry (Joan) Root of Kalamazoo, Donald Root of Toledo, Michael (Susan) Root of Lake St. Louis, MO, and Patrick (Pam) Root of Lebanon, MO; one daughter, Mary Ellen (Dan) Pizana of Saline; and eight grandchildren; Shawna, Alex, Jacob, Tyler, Justin, Joey, Matthew and Eric. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
Visitation will take place at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Sunday, March 1 from 2-4 p.m. Visitation will then be held from 6-8 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh where a Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Monday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Reverend Fr. Daniel Wheeler as Celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Ridgeway cemetery, Britton. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Memorials may be made to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns/Archdiocese of Detroit; 35750 Moravian Dr., Clinton Twp., MI 48035.

Betty E. McKee
06/11/1921 - 02/22/2009
On a sunny June day, Betty Eloise was born June 11, 1921 to her parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Bliesner in their farm home in Blissfield, MI area. She graduated from the Blissfield Schools.
In 1947 Betty was married to Gordon McKee of Tecumseh, MI where they bought a home and farm. They were blessed with the birth of their three daughters, Nancy of Saline, MI, Susan of Naples, FL and Patti who is deceased. Two grandchildren, Carla and Kristin were her pride and joy.
Betty's interests were gardening, stamp collecting and writing to her many pen pals. Betty's favorite Bible verse was John 3:16- For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting Life.
Preceding her in death was he husband Gordon of fifty-years, a loving daughter Patti and her husband Michael, brother Robert, nieces Laraine and Debbie, nephew Larry, her pen pal friend and Maid of Honor, Lindis and a dear friend, Jean.
Survivors include three brothers, Lawrence Bliesner, Jr. and his wife Bette, James Bliesner and wife Lucille, and Emerson Bliesner and wife Barbara.
For many months Betty was lovingly cared for in the home of her daughter Susan and Jim Lierman of Naples, FL and AVOW Hospice. On February 22, 2009, Betty departed this life to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. According to Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be heldat the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on June 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor LaFollette of Grace Bible Church, Tecumseh, officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Bible Church, of which Betty was a member, P.O. Box 442, Tecumseh, MI 49286 or to the charity of choice.
