Nancy Ann Stefani

Nancy A. Stefani, age 62, of Manchester, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 30, 2012 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit with her loving family at her side. She was born December 2, 1949 in New Berlin, NY to Ivor and Ila (Ivey) Robbins. She married Richard Stefani on February 11, 1984 and he survives.
Nancy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She was an active member of the Clinton American Legion Post #176. For many years she was involved with her children"s activities by being a Girl Scout Leader and supporting her children in their sporting events. Nancy enjoyed sewing, reading, and crafting. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband Richard, Nancy is survived by her children Christie (David) Tashman of Canton, MI, Anthony (Maricela Martinez) Stefani of Redford, MI, and Sara Stefani of Orlando, FL; her grandchildren, Jessica, Hunter, and Autumn Tashman and Sophia Stefani; her sisters, Betty (Jules) Pigliacampi of Easton, PA and Carol Blanding of Hagertown, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Home from 1 - 8 p.m. The funeral service for Nancy will be at the funeral home on Thursday, June 7, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bob Riddle officiating. Friends may also call upon the family for one hour prior to the service. Full military honors will follow under the auspices of the Clinton American Legion Post #176. Following the service there will be a gathering to celebrate Nancy"s life at Where Friends Meet in Clinton. Janet A. Matthews

Janet Matthews, age 70 of Tecumseh, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Arbor Hospice with her family at her side. She was born July 1, 1941 in Jackson, MI, the daughter of Earl and Lucille (Lowe) Harkins. She married James Matthews on April 22, 1967, and he preceded her in death on August 13, 2007.
Janet was an associate broker for many different real estate firms, including Rena Fitzpatrick Realty of Clinton, Townsend II Realty in Clinton, Lenawee Properties in Tecumseh, and Edward Surovell Realtors in Tecumseh. She was a member of both the Michigan and National Realtor Associations and Beta Sigma Phi. Janet was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, helping people find their dream home, and was thankful for the time she spent with family, friends, and clients. Her greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her grandkids.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Sara (Alex) Robles of Charlotte; and five grandchildren, Sydney, Kristian, Brandon, Ryan, and Aaliyah. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; one son Brett; five brothers and sisters.
At her request cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate Janet's life will take place on Monday, June 4 from 2-4 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a hospice of your choice, National Leukemia Foundation, or to the family.

Martin J. Glenday

Martin James Glenday, 85, of Onsted passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012. He was born December 21, 1926 in Troy, New Hampshire, the son of Austin Harold and Catherine Mary (Dunn) Glenday. He was married to Doris Johnson for 55 years.
Martin was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II. He graduated from Cushing Academy on June 8, 1947; he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering from Northeastern University on June 1, 1953. Martin began a career as an electrical engineer, working for R.E. Phelon Company in Massachusetts, Clinton Engine Company, and Ford Motor Company in Dearborn. Martin retired as President and CEO of the Production Products Company in Jackson, MI in the mid 1980's. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineer, American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Rotary of Clinton, and he is a past president of the Sand Lake Property Association. Martin was energetic, had a can do attitude, and was very involved with community activities. He was an avid golfer, bowler, and a member of the Big Liz Lodge. Martin was generous; he supported Rotary and their scholarship programs.
In addition to his wife, Martin is survived by a brother, William (Maxine) Glenday of Sandwich, New Hampshire; a sister-in-law, Ann Johnson of Old Lyme, Connecticut; and four nephews, Tim, Martin, and William "Okie" Glenday, and Erik Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles Glenday, and a nephew Charles Glenday.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Inurnment will take place at Mountain View cemetery in Troy, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lenawee County Humane Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ruth P. Couture

Ruth P. Couture, age 86 of Manchester, died peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Saline Evangelical Home with her family at her side. She was born on February 4, 1926 in Adrian, MI, the daughter of Richard and Lillie (Bates) Ellis. Earlier in her life, she was married to the father of her children, Kenneth Couture.
Ruth was a member of the Clinton Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Tecumseh, Post #4187. She enjoyed cooking, baking, spending endless hours in the kitchen and had worked at J&C Family Foods and later Busch's Valueland in Clinton. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son Gary(Sherry) Couture of Clinton, her daughter Brenda (Dale) Hegwood of Manchester, two grandchildren; Michael (Tonya) Couture and Andrea (Scott) McDermott, eight great grandchildren; Ellen, Emily, Jacob, Joel and Jared Couture and Hannah & Natalie Abram and Ryan McDermott, also several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her half brothers Richard Ellis and Jack Haynes.
Visitation for Ruth will be held on Monday, April 9 at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 11:00 a.m. in the Clinton Baptist Church with Pastors John Turner and Bob Riddle officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery, Clinton. Visitation will also be held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton Baptist Church.

Tina L. Hively

Tina L. Hively, age 52 of Clinton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Arbor Hospice with her loving family at her side. She was born November 1, 1959 in Ann Arbor, MI, the daughter of Robert and Jean (Rathke) Avery. She married Eric Haft in 1975 and later married Alan Hively in 2000.
Tina worked in the Human Resources Department for the State of Michigan Forensic Center in Ypsilanti and later for the Department of Corrections. She enjoyed motor cycle riding and spending time with her children, family and friends. She was a loving mother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by the joys of her life, her three sons; Eric "Ricky" Haft of Milan and her twin sons, Derek and Dillon Hively of Clinton, her two sisters; Deborah Jewell of Ypsilanti and Robin (Michael) Hintz of Tecumseh and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Tina was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6 at the Clinton Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor John White of Milan Free Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maplegrove cemetery in Dundee. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice or Charity of Donor's Choice.

Patrice Jo Watne

Patrice Jo Watne, 60, of Clinton passed away at U of M Hospital on March 31, 2012 with her family at her bedside. She was born March 6, 1952 in Jackson, MI, the daughter of John and Patricia (Comstock) Livermore. She was married to Murlin Watne on September 10. 1977, and he survives.
Patrice was employed as a Loan Officer at Manufacturers Bank and later at Bank of Lenawee. She was later in Accounts Receivable at CCX in Ann Arbor until retiring in early 2000. Patrice was an avid reader, especially mysteries, and she enjoyed crafting, quilting, and crosstiching. She was an awesome cook.
In addition to her husband, Murle, she is survived by her Mother, Patricia Tunnell of Stockbridge, MI; brothers, Aaron (Cindy) Livermore of Brooklyn and Andrew Livermore; sisters, Margaret Jaskowiscki of Braham, MN and Jonnie Kreklow of Pine River, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her Father.
Visitation for Pat will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Tom Hawkins of NewSong Community Church, Tecumseh will officiate and burial will follow in Riverside cemetery, Clinton.

Chester Joseph Snyr, Sr.
07/22/1925 - 03/29/2012
Chester Joseph Snyr, Sr., age 86 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012. He was born July 22, 1925 in Carleton, MI, the son of Joseph and Helen (Pilot) Snyr. He married Dorothy Evanski, the mother of his children on October 25, 1947. From 1989 until her death in August of 2010, he made his home with his companion and best friend, Madlane Conklin.
Chester was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. He worked as a Hydraulic Components Tester at Kelsey Hayes in Romulus from 1960 until retiring in 1988. Chester was a member of the VFW Post #4187 in Tecumseh. He enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years with Madlane. He loved working in his yard, attending flea markets, and running his home based antique store. He especially loved the time he spent with his family.
Chester is survived by his sons Chester (Mira) Snyr, Jr. of Wayne, and John (Andrea) Snyr of Gross Point; his daughters Constance Arner of Cincinnati, OH, Cynthia (Robert) Haury of Saline, Christine Miller of Saline, and Cheryl Baumann of Canton; his brothers Henry (Beverly) Snyr and Leonard (Pat) Snyr of Manitou Beach; a sister Lillian (Jean) Carpenter of Arizona; ten grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dorothy Evanski; Madlane Conklin; his daughter Carol; grandson James; three brothers; and three sisters.
A memorial gathering will take place at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Saturday, March 31 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. At 1 p.m. full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and the VFW Post #4187 at the Funeral Home. Cremation will follow services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project -www.woundedwarriorproject.org

William "Bill" C. McEwen

William C. McEwen, former head football coach at Monroe High School, died unexpectedly on June 8, 2011. Bill was born June 16, 1924 to Bertram and Helen (Egbert) McEwen in Lansing. He was raised in Michigan and Ohio. He married Coletta Forster on January 16, 1945 whom he met at a USO service club where she was a volunteer hostess. Sadly, she preceded him in death on December 30, 2010
William served in the Coast Guard in WWII as a radioman stationed in Key West. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1950 with a degree in education. He, Coletta, and their three children came to Monroe where he taught math and coached football at Lincoln Junior High and Monroe High School. "Coach" was a mentor to his players and followed the progress of many after they graduated. He and Coletta raised their children in Monroe enjoying the lake, friends, and sports activities. A Civil War buff, he was a member of the Monroe Civil War Round Table, and enjoyed traveling to many Civil War battle sites.
Bill had a passion for all sports and never found a football game he wouldn't watch. He bowled in the winter, golfed in the summer, enjoyed TV game shows and watching sports. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and always looked forward to family reunions. Bill was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh where he was recently confirmed. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his son William of Dexter, daughters Barbara (Daniel) D'Agostino of Ypsilanti and Janie (Wes) Schulz of Traverse City. He is also survived by granddaughters Christine (Brad Vincent) De Francesco, Michelle (Tim Cain) De Francesco, Brooke (Andrew) Chapman and Marin Schulz; brothers Charles (Marilyn) and David (Mary); sisters Marjory Gerold, Janet (Ron) Mitchell and Sandra Woessner; and a host of dear nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his son in law Michael De Francesco in 1994, and five siblings.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 12 from 4 - 7 pm at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Bill will lie in state from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 13 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler as Celebrant. Full Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and VFW Post #4187 following the Funeral Mass. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of the Donor's choice.

Larry W. Stuart

Larry W. Stuart, age 59 of San Angelo, TX, formerly of Clinton, died in his sleep unexpectedly June 6, 2011. He was born on June 9, 1951 in Tecumseh, MI, the son of William and Lila (Purple) Stuart.
Larry loved the outdoors, fishing and long range target shooting. He was happiest when spending time with his family and friends. He was a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by one brother John (Deb) Stuart of Clinton, three sister; Linda (Mike) Krzyzaniak of Tecumseh, Joan Service of Adrian and Debbie Stuart of Ypsilanti, MI, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dan.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Riverside cemetery in Clinton with Pastor Richard Coury officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Bernard Bishop

Bernard Bishop of Sebring, FL went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2011. He was born June 20, 1928 to Roy and Selma Bishop, in Clayton, MI. On July 14, 1949 he married Doris Lembrick and lived in Ridgeway, MI. 28 years.
In 1977 he and his wife followed the Lord's call into the Building Ministry with Continential Baptist Missions to build Mission churches. Upon retiring in 1993 they moved to Punta Gorda, FL then to Sebring, FLl in January, 2008.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Doris, one daughter Diane (Tom) Bailey, Britton, MI, one son Michael (Connie) Bishop of Grand Rapids, MI, one brother Milo Bishop of Clinton, MI one sister Roberta Raymond of Clearwater, FL, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 step brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 9 at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes with Pastor Tom Frantz of Blissfield Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.

Gerald William Judd

Gerald William Judd, age 79 of Tecumseh, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2011, with his family by his side, at Arbor Hospice, Ann Arbor, MI. He was born in Covington, KY on August 19, 1931, the son of Thomas and Lena (Leighty) Judd. He married Shirley J. Larned on August 28, 1971.
Jerry was a Probation Parole Supervisor for the Michigan Dept. of Corrections until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Britton Congregational Christian Church, the Oakland County Optimist Club and the Michigan Corrections Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great -grandfather and he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his daughter Lenore Judd-Thomas of Bradenton, FL, two sons; Michael (Christine) Hoffman of Adrian, MI and Eric Hoffman of Hudsonville, MI, one brother John (Alice) Judd of Springfield, OH, three grandchildren; Victoria Renner, Sean Hoffman and Christian Thomas and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by two brothers; Dr. Thomas W. Judd and Donald Judd.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 5 from 2 - 6 p.m. and Monday, June 6 from 1 - 2 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Welcome officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside cemetery, Tecumseh with full Military Honors under the auspices of the Tecumseh American Legion Post #34 and the Tecumseh VFW Post #4187. Memorial contributions may be made to the Britton Congregational Christian Church, the Lenawee County Humane Society or Arbor Hospice.

Elizabeth "Betty" Irene Hannah
07/20/1933 - 06/02/2011
Elizabeth Irene "Betty" Hannah, age 77, of Tecumseh, passed away June 2 at Magnum Care of Adrian. She was born July 20, 1933 in Ecorse, MI the daughter of Eugene and Gabriella (Kotan) Kossey. On June 16, 1951 she married Don Hannah and he survives.
Betty and her husband owned and operated the Chicken Basket in Tecumseh and the Britton Restaurant in Britton. Betty enjoyed cooking and often did so for the Salvation Army in Adrian and provided funeral dinners at St. Elizabeth's. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and the Raisin Township Fire Department Sparkettes. Betty loved to spend time gardening, going to garage sales, and doing word search puzzles.
In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her children; Linda (John) Sannes of Adrian, Nancy (Jerry) Andrus of Adrian, Chuck (Karen) Hannah of Black Hawk, CO, Sandy Sisty of Adrian, Jackie (Mike) Allshouse of Tecumseh, Tom Hannah of Tecumseh, Jeff (Carrie) Hannah of Dexter, and Jim (Sherri) Hannah of Tecumseh; her brother, Mike (Mary) Kossey of Tecumseh; her sister Martha Rebottaro of Tecumseh; nineteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Emma Greene, and her granddaughter Shay Hannah.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 5, from 3-8 p.m. at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home with a Scripture Service to be held at 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Tecumseh on Monday, June 6, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Daniel Wheeler as Celebrant. She will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Rite of Committal to follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ruth Kauffman
09/16/1918 - 05/26/2011
Ruth Michaelson Kauffman, age 92, died May 26, 2011 at home in Clinton, MI. In accordance with her wishes she has been cremated and her cremains will be taken to Glenwood, IA, her childhood hometown. She was born in Dubuque, IA on September 16, 1918 the only child of Edward and Pauline (Ferris) Michaelson. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Willis (Bill) Kauffman in 2003. She is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn (Bill) Schmidt, four grandchildren; Scott, David and Randy Schmidt and Julie Vale; also survived by nine great grandchildren, Rory and Rio Vale, Michael, Nicholas and Nathan Schmidt, Allyson and Ashlyn Schmidt and Julien and Hannah Schmidt.
Ruth worked for the Selective Service board during WWII in Glenwood, IA. A move took her to Los Angeles, CA; Omaha, NE; and Arkansas City, KS to open a children's clothing store "The Jack & Jill". She later went to work as a secretary for General Electric at Strother Field in Kansas. The next move was to Houston, TX, still working for GE and a Buick dealer. During this time she met and later married Bill Kauffman. She was off and running again…this time back to Kansas for GE. One more move took her to Michigan to become an executive secretary for GM working in the GM Building. Her next move was to Clifton Park, NY then to Coshocton, OH.
Retirement found Ruth & Bill in Sun City West, AZ then on to The Villages, FL. She subsequently moved back to Michigan in 2006 to be close to her family. Ruth never let the grass grow under her feet!
Thanks to her special caregiver, Sandy Fox, who was with her for the last two years.
Memorial gifts in her name may be given to the wonderful people at Hospice of Lenawee or the Lenawee Humane Society, both in Adrian, MI, and would be deeply appreciated.

Frederick D. Nowells, III
06/30/1954 - 08/23/2009
Frederick Douglass Nowells III, age 55 of Tecumseh, died Sunday, August 23, 2009 in Herrick Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1954 in Detroit, the son of Frederick D. and Myrtle Mae (Howard) Nowells, Jr. On February 8, 1991 he was married to Carol Lynn Collins and she survives.
Fred was a Quality Control Engineer in the automotive industry. He attended Britton Bethel Baptist Church. Fred enjoyed playing tennis, the piano, riding his motorcycle, flower gardening, and hunting and he was an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his wife, Carol, Fred is survived by his father, Frederick (Sylvia) Nowells, Jr. of Detroit; one son, David (Julia) Collins of Britton, four grandchildren, Braxton, Callie, Hannah, and Cassidy; one great grandson Landon; four sisters, Shelley (Jonathan) Smith of Jonesboro, GA, Jennifer Nowells of Decatur, GA, Joy (Todd) Rush of Southfield, MI and Jenine (Jonathan) Easley of Detroit, MI, special cousins, Patel, Keith & Jeffery Ginyard all of Detroit, MI and Mary Denise Robinson of San Antonio, TX, his Aunt Ruth Parker of San Antonio, TX and Aunt Arletta Douglas of Detroit, MI. He was preceded in death by his mother. Fred will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Homes on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 12:00 noon, officiated by Pastor Robert Wright. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Brookside cemetery in Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

BONNIE JEAN DuCHATEAU
Onsted
Bonnie Jean DuChateau, 72, of Onsted died April 3, 2007, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital In Ann Arbor.
She was born Oct. 3, 1934, In Detroit to Virgil and Lenora (Cavanaugh) Ridgway.
She married Harvey J. DuChateau Oct. 8, 1955, at Sacred Heart Church in Roseville, and he survives.
Mrs. DuChateau worked as a program analyst for the IRS. She was a member of St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lori (Craig) Irwin of Rochester Hills and Kim (Robert) Phelps of Saline, and her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kaitlyn Irwin, and Kelli and Derek Phelps.
Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Mrs. DuChateau's memory may be made to St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church Vestment Fund, 8743 US-12, Brooklyn, MI 49230.
