DECKER -- Mae Anna Decker, aged 84, of Wyoming, formerly of Dorr, passed away October 12, 2000 and went to be with her Lord. Mrs. Decker was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 7581, Wayland, MI. She was very involved with the Other Way Ministries and adult foster care. Mae was preceded in death by her husband, George; two sons, Louis L. Schuh (Sonny) Jr., Albert James Decker (Jim); daughter-in-law, Sandra K. Decker; and sister, Eleanor Fietz. Mrs. Decker is survived by her children, Shirley (Marvin) Bruursema of Cutlerville, MI, Betty Lou (Noel) Maxson of Trufant, MI, Georgann Decker of Des Moines, IA, Lester (Laura) Decker of Grandville, MI; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Virginia (Walter) Ertman of Sodus, MI; one brother, Albert (Geraldine) Varnau of Stevensville, MI; brother-in-law, Ted Fietz of Henrietta, MI; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Sunday, October 15, from the Cook Memorial Chapel. Interment Dorr cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Other Way Ministries (710 W. Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49504). Arrangements by Cook Funeral Home, Grandville Chapel.

CHEYNE -- James L. Cheyne,aged 51, of Dorr Twp., met his angel and went to be with his Lord, Sunday, November 19, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Stephenie; son, Kristopher; grandchildren, Alisha, McKenzie, Morgan; his mother, Helen; sisters, Bernadine Atwell, Barbara Ray, Donna Stone, Kori Cheyne; several nieces & nephews; also Jim's "Rat Pack," Greg, Dean, Gary, Ron, Hank, Lou, Ziggy and Jimmy Paul. Jim was a member of Antioch Fellowship Church, Lawmans Club of Muskegon, and F.O.P. of Wayland. Jim was a P.O.W. of the Vietnam Era while serving in the U.S. Army. Funeral Services were held Wednesday at the Dorr funeral home with Pastor Ron Lancaster officiating. Interment Dorr cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County. Arrangement by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel.

JONES -- John H. Jones, aged 82, of Hopkins, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000 at his home. Mr. Jones was born March 22, 1918 in Diamond Springs, MI, the son of Jeffrey and Jenny (Wessling) Jones. He had worked at Robinson Carttage as an ironworker and was a member of the Ironworkers Union Local #340 since March 1, 1949. Mr. Jones was a life member of the South Kent Sportsmans Club. Surviving are his wife, Florence, whom he married on March 2, 1940; 5 children, Bonnie Walker of Pine Lake, Johnnie and Schrie Jones of Pierson, Judy and Don Collier of Hopkins, Vikki and Dave Blakeslee of Burnips, Ron and Pam Jones of Hopkins; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and step grandchildren; 1 brother, Don and Ruth Jones of Grand Haven; 1 sister, Barb and Roger DeMond of Pine Lake; brother-in-law, Morris Page of Allegan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Larry Jones. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Pastor Ray Field officiated. Interment Poplar Hill cemetery, Monterey Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.

CALKINS -- Elton F. Calkins, aged 96, of Leighton Twp., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Winona; children, Bob (Judy) Calkins of Ohio, Shirley (Ken) Glascott of Hopkins, JoAnn (Dick) Swope of Kalamazoo; eleven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother, Harold Calkins. Mr. Calkins was a lifelong farmer and was employed with Smith Lumber for 40 years. He was a member of Rural Grange and former treasurer of the Wayland School Board. Funeral Services were held 2:00 pm Saturday at Wayland United Methodist Church with Pastor Stacy Minger officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Wayland Area Ambulance. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

WEBER -- Katheryn A. Weber aged 70 of Dorr, went to be with her Lord Thursday, April 5, 2001. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Marvin; her children: Michael (Barb) of Dorr, Steve (Carole) of Jamestown, Mary (Ron) Graham of Dorr, Rick (LouAnn) of Dorr, Chris (Alan) Weber of Dorr, Jerry (Deb) of Dorr, David of Houston TX, Tim (Rhonda) of Dorr, Rod (Diane) of Dorr, Alane (Mike) Darling of Belding, Len (Tracy) of Dorr, Lori (Al) Fifelski of Hopkins, Lisa (John) Kloska of Grandville; 32 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; sisters Clarice Laube, Edith (Art) Selvig, Elsie (Mike) Calogero; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dolores (Robert) Bieber, Gert Weber, Phyllis (Burrell) Stein, Dennis (Shirley) Weber, Mary Kay VanPelt, Barb (Den) Roys and many nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass was said Monday at St. Mary's Visitation Church. There was a rosary on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Cook Funeral Home, Byron Center.

ANDERSON -- Marvin Dale "Andy" Anderson, aged 75, of Yankee Springs Twp., loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather & friend ended his courageous battle with cancer on Saturday evening, April 6, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Peggy; children, Terri (Mark) Kirby and Steven (Betsy) Anderson; grandchildren, Danielle, Lacey, Jessica, Jenna, Samuel, Kristin, Mark & Sean; great-grandson, Zachary; also his step-brother, Forrest (Evelyn) Anderson. Andy graduated from Creston High School in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. Shortly after his service ended, he joined the Michigan State Police retiring from the Wayland Post after 26 years as a State Police Sgt. He was an active member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks & Yankee Springs Golf Course. Scripture Service was Tuesday at the funeral home. Knights of Columbus prayed the Rosary Tuesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial was Wednesday at St. Therese Church in Wayland with Fr. Gary Pamment as Celebrant. Interment at Fairview cemetery in Manistique, MI in late spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church Bldg fund or Allegan Co. Wings of Hope Hospice. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

BRENNER -- Marian F. Brenner, aged 81, of Wayland Twp., passed away Sunday, April 7, 2002. She is survived by her children, Pauline Hines of Marietta, GA., Maynard (Jenny) Brenner of Wayland, Roger (Becky) Brenner of Otsego & Karen (James) Shea of Hopkins; ten grandchildren & fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Furne (Elaine) Zeinstra of Martin, Willis (Brenda) Zeinstra of Allegan, Marlin (Kay) Zeinstra of Byron Center; sisters, Arlene (Harm) Nieboer of Kalamazoo & LaVonne (William) Snook of Martin. Funeral Services were held Friday at Shelbyville United Methodist Church with Pastor William Bills officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shelbyville United Methodist Church Bldg fund, the Heart Association or the Kidney Foundation. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel

WHITCOMB: George R. Whitcomb aged 88, of Moline, passed away April 7, 2002. He was born December 31, 1913 to Alden A and Dena (VanderOudermeulen) Whitcomb in Byron Center, Michigan. George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nellie (Noah); brother, Woodrow Whitcomb; sons, Jerry L. (Beth) Whitcomb, Robert L. (Terry) Whitcomb; daughter, Linda (Paul) Zimmer; grandchildren, Todd Whitcomb, Teresa Whitcomb, Scott Whitcomb, Amy Norris, Ryan Whitcomb, Matt Maynard, Aaron Zimmer, Megan Zimmer and Jared Zimmer; great-grandchildren, Michael Richmond, Skye Whitcomb, Riggs Maynard; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, Alice E. (Burgess), Edwin Whitcomb, Anna R. (Schwander), Gail Whitcomb, Rose V. Whitcomb, Mable Whitcomb; and also two infant sisters and one infant brother. George retired following 38 years of service at General Motors Plant 1 in Wyoming. He served for a term on the Moline School Board. His favorite hobbies were gardening, baseball, camping and playing in the Moline Kitchen Band. Funeral and Committal Services were held at the Berean Bible Church. with Pastor John Lowder officiating. Interment at Hooker cemetery in Leighton Twp. OLDEBEKEN - Katherine M. Oldebeken, aged 98, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002. She is survived by her children, Arthur Oldebeken, Bernadine Foster & Alan Oldebeken; thirteen grandchildren & twenty eight great-grandchildren & also two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Oldebeken was preceded in death by her husband Arthur & son, Fred, and grandchildren Amanda & Thomas. Funeral Services were held Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Spakman officiating. TEIN -- Alfred Tein, aged 79, of Wayland, passed away Friday, June 28, 2002. Beloved husband of Evalene VanDenBrand Tein of 56 years; loving father of five children, Carole & Bruce Cole, Barbara & Joe Schwemberger, Loren "Jim" Tein, Phyllis & Terrill Clark, Brian Tein & Teresa Walton; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother; two sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and friends. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, three brothers, and a daughter-in-law. Memorial Services were held Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Ron Bouwkamp of Wayland Christian Reformed Church officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County or Wayland Christian Reformed Church Education Building Fund. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

THOMPSON -- RICHARD P. THOMPSON , 88 of Hopkins, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at his home. Mr. Thompson was born October 29, 1913 in Potterville, MI the son of Jerry and Ruth (Alwood) Thompson. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and was a truck driver for MacSimBar Paper Co. retiring in 1973. He then owned and operated Thompson Well Drilling Company. Dick was a member of the Hopkins Community Reformed Church, Hopkins Athletic Boosters Club, Lions Club, and active in many charities. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and had enjoyed traveling with his wife, Alice who preceded him in death in 1999. Surviving are his family whom he loved very much and were very important to him, 7 children and their spouses, Peggy & Lee Arnsman of Hopkins, Joan & Bill Riksen of Hopkins, Marjory & Richard Smith of Hastings, Hannah & Russell Pogodzinski of Hilliards, Richard Thompson, Jr. of Arizona, Kay & Richard Peterson of Lapeer, Denise Thompson of Arizona. Dick was preceded in death by his son Jerry and his wife Judy, so he and Alice added four more children to the house to raise, John & Lori Thompson of Allegan, Richard & Lynette Thompson of Sturgis, Lynne & Michael Morrison of Kalamazoo, and Sheri & Jeff Ward of Clinton Twp. Also surviving are over 50 grandchildren and great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, 1 brother and 3 sisters, Robert McEwen of Hopkins, Bertha Peck of Ohio, Coral Long of Florida, and Nellie Heberle of Lowell. Also preceding in death were 3 brothers, Floyd McEwen, Howard McEwen, and Jim McEwen, and 2 grandsons, Mark Arnsman and Richard Thompson II. The family received friends Friday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where services were held Saturday. Pastor Jack Klunder officiating. Interment Maplewood cemetery, Hopkins Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopkins Community Reformed Church or the Hopkins Athletic Boosters Club.

LODENSTEIN -- ESTHER L. LODENSTEIN, 83, of Shelbyville, formerly of Hopkins, died Tuesday, October 1 at Hospice of Holland Home, Grand Rapids. Mrs. Lodenstein was born May 11, 1919 in Hopkins Township the daughter of Alfred and Ethel (Dobson) Shuman. She was a teacher at Hopkins Public Schools for 33 years retiring in 1981. Surviving are 3 sons, Larry (Frances) of Kentwood, Robert of Hopkins and Perry of Wayland; 4 granddaughters, Lisa, Tina, Katie and Pamela; 3 sisters, Doris Lee of Bangor, Virginia VanderKolk of Hopkins, Verla Frey of Elkhart, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter. The family received friends and family Thursday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where services were held Friday. Pastor Michael Hasper officiating. Interment Maplewood cemetery, Hopkins. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayland Ambulance.

VILLEROT : Mrs. Eleanor (Ellie) Villerot (Gulch) aged 71 of South Lyons (summer residence-Sandy Pines) went to be with her Lord Sunday, September 22, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents Delia and Ernest Friend and one sister Thela Slater. She is survived by her husband Russell Villerot; her children Mark (Jeanie) Gulch of Baldwin, Walter (Beth) Gulch of Middleville, Sue (Terry) Shaffer of Wyoming: her stepchildren Russell (Phyllis) Villerot of Fowlerville, Richard (Sandy) Villerot of South Lyons, Roger (Annette) Villerot of Brighton and David Villerot of Howell; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters Doris (Russell) Haase, Betty (Jake) VanDyke; one brother William (Marian) Friend; a brother-in-law and two sister-in-law; nieces and nephews. The family meet friends and relatives at the Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home in Wyoming Funeral services were held on Wednesday with the Pastor Kyle DeYoung officiating. Interment was at Oak Grove cemetery. The family suggests donations to Hospice of Michigan.
