VANDERWOUDE -- Robert C. VanderWoude, aged 47, of Wayland, went to be with his Lord, Tuesday, December 18, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca; father, Tinus VanderWoude; brothers and sisters, Susan (Michael) Grinage, Jan (Jeff) Levering, David (Linda) VanderWoude, James VanderWoude; several nieces and nephews; also special friends, Joyce and Karen. Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude in 1995. Funeral Services were held Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Ronald Bouwkamp of Wayland Christian Reformed Church officiating. Interment in Hooker cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wayland Area Ambulance. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

DEXTER -- Dale R. Dexter Sr, aged 76, of Moline, passed away Monday, December 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Gwen; children; Dale (Jackie) Dexter Jr., Pat (Al) Willemsen, Alan (Lynn) Dexter, Glen (Nancy) Dexter, Brian (Sue) Dexter; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Eileen (Jim) Graham, Dorothy TerMeer, Theresa (Jerry) Fitzgerald, June DeShaw, Bonnie (Al) Redder, Kay Franklin; brother, Bob (Carol) Dexter. Mr. Dexter was preceded in death by great grandson, Clayton Thomas and two brothers, Rodney and Paul. Dale was a WWII Veteran. Funeral Services were held on Friday at the Dorr Funeral Home with Rev. Don Graham of Zion United Methodist Church of Ionia officiating. Memorials may be made to charity of choice. After services cremation followed. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel

FELDWISCH -- Fred Feldwisch, aged 84, of Mt. Pleasant & formerly of Wayland, passed away Monday, December 3, 2001 at Isabella County Medical Care Facility. He is survived by his wife Rose Marie (Durkee) whom he married on July 25, 1942. Also surviving are his daughter, Linda (Mark) Beard; grandchildren, Amie & Mark R. Beard; brother & sister-in-law, George (Marty) Feldwisch; four nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Ruth Feldwisch & sister, Arlyle Venger. Fred was a World War II Veteran & member of the Wayland VFW Post 7581. Funeral & Committal Services were held Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Nancy Zerban of United Church of Wayland officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayland Area Ambulance or Wayland VFW Post 7581. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

BAUGH - Mildred M. Baugh, aged 94, of Wayland, was taken up to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, November 27, 2001. She is survived by her son, Alan (Lois) Baugh; daughter, Joan Gross; six grandchildren & thirteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Baugh was preceded in death by her husband Clayton, grandson, Tim, son-in-law, Edward; also her parents, 4 brothers & 3 sisters. She was a charter member of Calvary Church of Wayland. She and her husband were former owners of Baugh Shoe Store. Funeral Services were held Friday at Calvary Church of Wayland with Pastor Michael Hasper officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. ALLEN -- Lawrence "Larry" Edward Allen, aged 80 of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at home. Mr. Allen was a World War II, D-Day Veteran. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Jean Allen; his children, Dave (Pat) Allen, Lois (Gary) Van Duine, Ron (Sharon) Allen, Kathy (Doug) Schutz, Bryan (Pat) Allen; twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, John (Freda) Morgan, Maxine Eaton and Marjorie Haight. Preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Lois Allen. Funeral Services were held Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at the Yankee Springs Bible Church. Pastor Merritt Johnson officiating, interment Yankee Springs cemetery. Military Honors under the auspices of the United States Army and the Wayland VFW Post 7581. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Michigan or the Yankee Springs Bible Church. Arrangements by Beeler Funeral Chapel, Middleville.

BASTIAN -- Mildred Bastian, aged 92, of Otsego & formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, November 19, 2001 peacefully at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids after a long illness. She was born January 2, 1909 in Dorr, Michigan. Surviving are two sons, Robert L. "Dutch" (Pat) Akers of Shelbyville and Richard L. (Robin) Akers of Oklahoma; daughter, Sandra L. (Akers) Hoyt of Otsego; brother, Milton "Johnny" Fleser of Shelbyville; nephew, Daryl (Gerrie) Fleser of Wayland; 18 grandchildren & 28 great-grandchildren; also 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse "Jake" Akers & Donald C. Bastian; daughter, Frances E. "Sis" Martin; son-in-law, Ray N. Hoyt; brothers, Lyle Jahnke, Gerald Jahnke & Francis Fleser. As a young girl of 12 years, she drove the family feed truck to Battle Creek for the Shelbyville Feed Mill & topped onions in the mud fields for the area farmers. In the 1950's she worked as a cook for Wayland Public Schools & Western Michigan University. Along with taking care of the elderly, she always had her grandchildren keeping her busy. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, baking wedding cakes, gardening & canning. She was also a member of the Eastern Star for 70 years & a member of Shelbyville United Methodist Church. Funeral Services were held Friday at the funeral home with Pastor William Bills officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel

FISHER -- Lyle V. Fisher (87), Suring, WI, formerly of Wayland & Leighton Twp. passed away Nov 6, 2001, in Suring. Preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Laura (Wiesenhofer); son, Larry Fisher; parents, Glen & Olive (Miller) Fisher; 3 sisters Goldie (Harold) Shafer, Lena (Edward) Moeller, both of Middleville and Vera (Robert) Wallace, Grand Rapids; 2 brothers Tyler (Irene) Fisher and Ivan (Gerry) Fisher, both of Wayland. His is survived by children Leonard (Cindy) Fisher, Evelyn (Wm.) School, both of Mountain, WI, Loren (Barbara) Fisher, Suring, WI, and Kenneth (Lois) Fisher, Spokane. WA; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Laurel (Louise) Fisher, Allendale; 1 sister, Cleo (Stanley) Schmidt, Dorr; and a dear friend, Thresia Helmrath, Suring, WI. Arrangements by Gruetzmacher's Funeral Home, Suring, WI.

LIPPERT -- Leon L. Lippert, 93 died November 20, 2001 at the Laurels of Sandy Creek Nursing Home, Wayland, MI. Mr. Lippert was born on December 30, 1907 in Wilson Kansas, the tenth in a family of eleven children. His parents, Mary and Joseph emigrated from Bohemia and arrived in Kansas as children in covered wagons and settled near Wilson. He married Sylvia Warta in 1933 and she preceded him in death in 1975, as did son Richard in 1968. He is survived by son Robert Leon (Janice) Wayland, MI; and grandsons C. Byron and Richard Eric (Lisa) Clemmons, NC; and great-grandson, Eric Charles. Granddaughter Elizabeth (Scott) Weaton, Burlington, WI. Mr. Lippert led a quiet life but touched and enriched many in his time. During World War II he helped organize and manage Victory gardens in Chicago while employed as an inspector in a weapons plant. He later became employed in The Institutional Food Industry and was acknowledged by Mayor Richard J. Daley for his then groundbreaking inner-city youth training program in 1956. His professional culinary background and horticultural avocation led to his involvement in numerous community activities, including the founding of Community Gardens in Salina, Kansas where he retired. This was patterned after the highly successful WWII Victory gardens. Mr. Lippert moved to Wayland in 1996 to join his family, befriending and influencing many in his brief residency. A memorial service will be held at Archer, Hampel & Kubiak Chapel at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 26, 2001. Mr. Lippert will be cremated and he will be interned in the family plot at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation will be appreciated.

POMEROY -- Wanda M. Pomeroy, 80, of Gun Lake, Michigan, formerly of Watervliet, died Friday, November 9, 2001, at Spectrum Hospital, Grand Rapids. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were by Hutchins Funeral Home, Watervliet. Mrs. Pomeroy was born April 1, 1921, in Watervliet, to Joseph and Naomi (Pierce) Scheid. She grew up in Watervliet, graduated from Watervliet High School, and graduated from Western Michigan University with a teaching degree. She taught math at Watervliet High School and Grandville High School, retiring after 25 years to Gun Lake. She enjoyed living on the lake, boating and convertibles. Survivors include: one son, Paul Pomeroy of Highland Village, Texas; two grandchildren, Natalie Pomeroy and Jason Pomeroy; a sister, Joey Waldren of Kalamazoo; and a nephew, Bill Waldren.

CUTLER -- Fredrick Cutler, aged 48, of Cobb Lake, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2001. He is survived by his wife Hope Anne; children, Douglas (Jilene) Cutler and Missy (Ike) Fifelski; four grandchildren, Morgan, Issac, Preston & Taylor; his mother, Geraldine Cutler & father, Douglas Cutler; brothers & sister, Dave (Beverly) Cutler, Dan Cutler & Debbie (Bryan) Marcott; also nieces & nephews, Jeremy, Jason, Heather, Micky, Josh, Nick & Nathan. Fred was employed for 30 years with General Motors Plant #1. Funeral Services were held Friday, Nov 2, at Gun Lake Community Church with Pastor Wayne Kiel officiating. Interment Blain cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Leighton Twp. or Dorr Twp. Fire Dept. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

MARTIN -- Michael E. Martin, aged 50, of Moline, was finally able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven after suffering a severe head injury from a car/train accident on January 16, 1987. Mike was born in Grand Rapids, MI, and grew up in Wyoming, attending Godwin Public Schools. After graduating in 1969, he worked at Earl Robson's Department Store and then came to work at Godwin Schools in 1972. In February of that year he met Mary Sears, and in September of that year, they became husband and wife. In 1975, the first of their three children was born, a daughter, Melinda. Four years later, another daughter, Melanie, and two years later, a son, Matthew. On January 16, 1987, a car driven by Michael was struck by a train, killing their daughter, Melanie, and injuring the whole family, with Michael sustaining a severe head injury. Michael was a victim of the judicial system, where the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that his wishes to end his life were not the way he had described, forcing him to exist in nursing homes throughout these years. Mike was a wonderful husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Melinda (Tim) Schneider, and their three children, Andy, Zack and T.J.; and a son, Matthew (Sarah) Martin. Also surviving are his mother, Leeta; brother, Larry; sister, Pat; mother-in-law, Rosemary Sears; brother-in-law, James (Fran) Sears; and sister-in-law, Sue Sears. Mike was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie; father, Robert Martin; father-in-law, Oscar Sears; and brother-in-law, George Sears. Michael was buried next to his daughter at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Grand Rapids at a private service. Donations to Hospice of Michigan, Leighton Twp. REINART -- Rita M. Reinart, 54 of Monterey Township, died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at her home. Rita was born April 27, 1947 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Francis and Arbulah (Baker) Dennany. She had graduated from O'Brien High School, Kalamazoo, Class of 1965, Wayne State University and Western Michigan University. She had managed Schensul's Restaurant in Kalamazoo and had been a supervisor at IRDC. She last taught 6th grade at St. Mary's Visitation School in New Salem during the 1999-2000 school year and was still teaching the computer class. Rita loved her family and working with the children at school. Surviving are her husband, Christopher L. Reinart, whom she married on January 10, 1987; four sons, Jon & Felicity Mason of Phoenix, AZ and Henry, Leonard and Stephen Reinart all at home, a niece and nephew who had lived with her, Katie & Paul Terrell of Kentucky and Jerry & Blessing Dennany of Georgia; 1 sister and 3 brothers, Veronica & Dale Cundiff of Maryland, Philip & Hoa Dennany of Indiana, Nicholas & Phyllis Dennany of Kalamazoo, Thomas Dennany of Benton Harbor; 3 sisters-in-law, Teri Dennany of Florida, Linda Dennany of Howard City, Sarah & Dan Larson of Kalamazoo; 4 aunts, Nona Hiestand of Kalamazoo, Rubey Baker of Kalamazoo, Ettie Baker of Paw Paw, Lucille Baker of Kalamazoo, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her former husband, Ernest Mason of Grand Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Richard, Benedict, Francis and Ernest Dennany and 2 sisters, Helen Pierson and Ann Brown. Visitation and a Scripture Service was held Friday at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday 11:00 am at St. Mary's Visitation Church, New Salem. Rev. Fr. Richard Altine celebrant. Interment Poplar Hill cemetery, Monterey Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, St. Mary's Visitation School or Wayland Area EMS

REURINK -- Benjamin J. Reurink, aged 15, of Wayland, passed away in his sleep, Wednesday, October 31, 2001. He is survived by his parents, Joan & Ed Redder, Bill Reurink; brothers, Logan and Ross; step brothers & sisters, Travis, Trent, Emily, Elizabeth; grandmothers, Betty Lotterman, Illa Reurink; also several cousins, aunts & uncles. Ben was preceded in death by grandfathers, William Reurink & Henry Lotterman. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Monday at Open Door Reformed Church, 1683 142nd Ave, Dorr, MI with Pastor George Grevenstuk officiating. Interment in Hooker cemetery. Memorials may be made to Allegan County Development Center. The family will greet relatives and friends 1-3 and 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

MODRESKE -- Anita M. Modreske (Monroe), aged 38, of Wayland, passed away in St. Louis, MO, Tuesday, October 16, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Dave; sons, Ryan and Corey; parents, Max & Sherry Monroe; brothers Max J. (Cindy) Monroe & David (Jennifer) Monroe; her grandparents, G.J. Miller, Gloria Monroe & Lillian Modreske; mother & father-in-law, Tom & Joan Modreske; sisters-in-law, Debbie Salas, Marcee (Jack) Emelander, Ann (Tim) VanPolen; brothers-in-law, Mike (Mary) Modreske & Dennis (Kris) Modreske; also several nieces & nephews. Anita was general manager & Vice President of United Bank of Michigan Insurance Co., Wayland City Council Member & served on various other civic positions. She also coached Little League Baseball. Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church in Wayland with Fr. Gary Pamment as Celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

FIFELSKI -- Floyd L. Fifelski, aged 90, of Dorr, passed away at home, Monday, October 15, 2001. He is survived by his children, Connie (Fred) Holbrook, Bill (Sharon) Fifelski, Norm (Nancy) Fifelski, Mary (Darryl) Rettig, Laurel (Larry) Jansen, Elise (Mark) DeYoung; 24 grandchildren & 24 great-grandchildren; also his sister, Estelle Pattock. Mr. Fifelski was preceded in death by his wife Modesta & grandson Dennis. Floyd was Dorr Township's first Fire Chief and remained for 15 years. Also, he was former owner of Floyd & Sons Sunoco Service Station in Dorr. Parish Rosary was held Wednesday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial was Thursday at St. Stanislaus Church in Hilliards with Fr. James Vinh Le as Celebrant. Interment in the church cemetery. Contributions may be made to Dorr Fire Department, Wayland Ambulance or St. Stanislaus Education fund. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel.
