VANDUSSEN -- Dirk I. VanDussen Jr., aged 61, of Wayland, passed away at home, Friday, April 13, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Ron (Carol) Gregersen, Robert (Eva) VanDussen, Robin Poll, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; mother, Gertrude VanDussen; brother, Peter (Chris) VanDussen; sisters, Irene Scheerhorn (Monte Listopad), Phyllis (Sam) Bowen, Pat (Don) Kuiper. Dirk was preceded in death by his father, Dirk, Sr.; bother, Robert; and sisters Pearl & Carol. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Funeral Home with Rev. William Bills of Martin United Methodist Church officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Memorials may be made to Allegan County Wings of Hope Hospice or Wayland Area Ambulance. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

CALKINS -- Elton F. Calkins, aged 96, of Leighton Twp., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Winona; children, Bob (Judy) Calkins of Ohio, Shirley (Ken) Glascott of Hopkins, JoAnn (Dick) Swope of Kalamazoo; eleven grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother, Harold Calkins. Mr. Calkins was a lifelong farmer and was employed with Smith Lumber for 40 years. He was a member of Rural Grange and former treasurer of the Wayland School Board. Funeral Services were held 2:00 pm Saturday at Wayland United Methodist Church with Pastor Stacy Minger officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Wayland Area Ambulance. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

WEBER -- Katheryn A. Weber, aged 70 of Dorr, went to be with her Lord Thursday, April 5, 2001. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Marvin; her children: Michael (Barb) of Dorr, Steve (Carole) of Jamestown, Mary (Ron) Graham of Dorr, Rick (LouAnn) of Dorr, Chris (Alan) Weber of Dorr, Jerry (Deb) of Dorr, David of Houston TX, Tim (Rhonda) of Dorr, Rod (Diane) of Dorr, Alane (Mike) Darling of Belding, Len (Tracy) of Dorr, Lori (Al) Fifelski of Hopkins, Lisa (John) Kloska of Grandville; 32 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; sisters Clarice Laube, Edith (Art) Selvig, Elsie (Mike) Calogero; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dolores (Robert) Bieber, Gert Weber, Phyllis (Burrell) Stein, Dennis (Shirley) Weber, Mary Kay VanPelt, Barb (Den) Roys and many nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass was said Monday at St. Mary's Visitation Church. There was a rosary on Sunday. You may sign the family's Memory Book at www.cookfuneralhome.com. GULCH -- Edmund D. Gulch, aged 77, of Grand Rapids passed away at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, Saturday, March 31, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Myra; children, Russell Godfrey, Judith Carroll, Linda Doxtater, Lisa Hoffius; eleven grandchildren & many great grandchildren; sisters, Genevieve Shawe, Patricia Ingstrom. Edmund was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene & Raymond Gulch. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the 820th Tank Destroyer Unit, was a member of the Dorr American Legion Post #127, and retired from Interstate Motor Freight in 1983. Funeral and committal Services were held Tuesday at the Dorr funeral home with Fr. James Vinh Le of St. Stanislaus Church officiating. Interment Resurrection cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans or Hospice of Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel

RING -- Mrs. Millie H. Ring (Zierleyn), of Wayland went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, March 29, 2001 at the Grand Valley Health Center. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-seven years, LeRoy B., son Robert L. Ring and grandson David A. Miller. Millie is survived by her son L. Jack and Vicki Ring, daughter Elaine and Jon Miller, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Mitchel Kloet, sister-in-law Harriet Zierleyn, aunt Grace Hawkins, cousins Doris Terry, Jack Freyling, Shirley Murphy and many nieces and nephews. Private family services have been held. Interment Fairplains cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayland Ambulance Service. Arrangements by Zaagman Memorial Chapel.

SOOY -- Greta Sooy, age 88, formerly of Wayland, died March 28, 2001 at Garden City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur and son, Arlyn. Survived by children Myrtle Pencola, Ruby Clark, Ginger (Rod) Bish and Arthur (Martha) and Ivan Mac (Paula) Sooy; one sister, Helen VandeWerf; 22 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; and life long friend Frances Dorman. She was a member of the Rebekahs. Services were held Monday at Elmwood cemetery, Trayton Lull officiated.

WILLIAMSON -- Ruth Williamson, aged 63, of Wayland, passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Hugh T. Williamson; sons, Mark Shively & Greg (Tracy) Shively; four stepchildren; brothers, Bob, Chuck & Carl Biggs; three sisters, Joann Baker, Fran Oliver & Dorothy Drake; ten grandchildren; her mother, Josephine Ball; also many nieces & nephews. Memorial Services were held Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Nancy Zerban officiating. Respecting Ruth's wishes, cremation has taken place. Ruth, you've touched the lives of many. Your words and acts of kindness will continue on. We love you and shall always miss you, but we rejoice in knowing your tears and pain have turned to joy. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

BUTTON -- Arby Ralph Button, Martin. Arby's life began December 20, 1910 in Hopkins, the son of Ralph and Della (Baker) Button. He grew up in Hopkins and on October 1, 1932 he married Beatrice E. "Bea" Shaw. They moved to Martin in 1937 where they raised their family. Arby worked for 15 years at the Plainwell Paper Mill but farming was his main vocation. He dairy farmed most of his life and was one of the first farmers in the area to own a hay baler. He did baling for many farmers in the area. Besides farming, other interests of Arby's included hunting and fishing. Arby and Bea wintered in Winter Haven, Florida for many years and in Florida, Arby enjoyed bingo and watching the Tigers play baseball. Arby and Bea did everything together during their 65 years of marriage and he has missed her greatly since her death in 1998. Arby's family includes, children and spouses, Keith and Mary Lou Button of Martin, Harris and Gloria Button of Wayland, Elaine and Tim McBride of Grand Haven; a daughter-in-law, Joan Button of Otsego; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Pansy Henrixson of Hopkins, and Myrtle Bultman of Moline; many nieces and nephews. Arby died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at home following a long illness. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Willard; a granddaughter Peggy Button Moore; 2 sisters, Daisy Smith and Dorothy Wuis. A Celebration of Life Service was held Monday at the funeral home with Rev. William Bills leading the service. Arby will be buried next to his wife at Ohio Corners cemetery in Hopkins, Township. Memorials are suggested to Martin United Methodist Church or Wings of Hope Hospice. Please share a memory of Arby with the family at the chapel. REDDER -- Justin 'Jud' Redder, Allegan (formerly of Otsego), passed away Friday, March 16, 2001 in Allegan. He was born April 5, 1912 in Jamestown Township, the son of Gerrit and Gertrude (DeKline) Redder. Justin was a diary farmer all of his life and for the last 15 years before retirement, he raised veal calves. From 1963 to 1965, he operated a gas station in Burnips. When he was younger, he shoed unmanageable horses for other farmers. He also trained horses and pulled his team of horses on a stone boat at county fairs. He was a carpenter and an expert shot and taught his sons to shoot. Preceding him in death were his wife Helena (VanderVeen) in 1995, a brother Harvey Redder in 1981 and an infant son Justin Harlan. Surviving are 2 daughters and 2 sons, Phyllis (Gerald) Dykstra of West Olive, Dale (Anna) Redder of Allegan, Alvern (Bonnie) Redder of Otsego, Arloa (Bill) Edwards of Lake Lelanau; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Florence (Al) Blaukamp of Zetphen, MI, Henrietta Buege of Rockford; a sister-in-law, Henrietta 'Hank' Redder of Hudsonville. Funeral services were held Monday at the Watson Bible Church, Rev. James L. Collison officiating. Interment in Jamestown cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Wings of Hope Hospice. Arrangements by Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego.

SCHWANDER -- Charles "Chuck" Schwander, age 74, passed away 3/17/2001 in Tennesse. He was formerly of Wayland. He is survived by a sisters & brother, Betty Meconis; Robert & Ella Schwander, Helen & Fred Linington; several nieces & nephews; special friend Juanita. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 7581. He served in the U.S. Navy. Graveside services will be held March 31, at 1:30 at the Salem cemetery, Burnips, Mich under the Auspices of Wayland V.F.W. Post #7581.

WEBSTER -- Carter James Webster was born 6:14p.m, Saturday 3/17/01, but left us after just a short stay. He is survived by his mother, Tina May Webster, his father, Jeremy Linington Luft. Grandparents, Tom & Marie Webster, JoAnn & Wayne Carpenter. Great-Grandparents, May Webster, Andy & Jo Brand. Aunts & Uncles, Tom & Karen Webster, Brenda & Chuck Brooks, Terry & Sally Carpenter. God's tiniest angel has gone to play in heaven.

GILBERT -- Bradley Lyman Gilbert, aged 83, of Byron Center, MI, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001 at home. He was born on April 25, 1917. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Johanna; his children, Joanne (Michael) Henry of Radnor, PA, Catherine (John) Stirling of Bothell, WA, Martha (Michael) DeWeerd of Wayland, MI, Barbara (Raymond) Dinsmore, RAF Mildenhall, U.K., Dwight (Lynne Katz) Gilbert, of Dorr, MI; and nine grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy Kreag of Barefoot Bay, FL, Mary Hopkins of Jenson Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Theodore Hay of Spokane, WA; sister-in-law, Agnes (Orville) Conley of St. Louis, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bradley graduated from Michigan State Agricultural College with High Honors in 1939 and service in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a well-respected businessman and dairy farmer on the centennial Gilbert Farm. In later years his creative artistry and inventive spirit kept him busy in numerous pursuits, which will be forever remembered by his family. Cremation has taken place and burial at Jones cemetery. A private memorial is planned. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan, 1175 68th St, Grand Rapids, MI. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

BRINKERT -- James F. Brinkert, aged 86 of Hopkins, died Saturday, February 24, 2001 at the Allegan County Medical Care Facility. Mr. Brinkert was born June 30, 1914 in Hopkins, MI the son of John and Elizabeth (Martin) Brinkert. He was a barber at his own shops in both Wayland and Hopkins for many years. He retired as a maintenance supervisor from Hopkins Public Schools in 1980. He had served as clerk for Hopkins Township and was a member of the Hopkins Community Reformed Church. He was a loving and much appreciated husband and father to his wife of 61 years Vivian, and his son, Jerry (Charlene) Brinkert of Allegan. He also leaves one cherished grandson., Benjamin of Mt. Pleasant; 1 brother, Martin Nelson Brinkert of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Al & Ruth Cruths of Jenison; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Pastor Jack Klunder officiated. Interment Maplewood cemetery, Hopkins Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice, Wayland Ambulance or the Hopkins Community Reformed Church Building Fund.

BROWN -- Stephan L. Brown, aged 26, of Salem Twp., passed away Thursday, February 22, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Desmond A. Brown, Caleb J. Brown; parents, Greg & Linda Brown; brother, Greg & (Kristin) Brown & family, Keeghan & Chayse; grandparents, Erwin & Shirley Johnston, Clare Frost; former spouse, Erica Brown; also aunts & uncles. Stephan was preceded in death by grandmother, Margaret. Funeral and committal services were held on Saturday at the Dorr Funeral Home with pastors Ron & Paula Lancaster of Antioch Fellowship Center officiating. Interment Burnips cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Greater Grand Rapids. Arrangement by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel.
