STRIEGLE -- Adeline S. Striegle[b], aged 85, of Dorr passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2003. She was married to Joseph Striegle on February 1, 1936 at St. Mary's Church. Adeline is survived by her children, Eugene (Ruth) Striegle, David Striegle, Shirley (Leo) Hilaski, Virginia Kleinbrink, Sharon Thibodeau; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brothers, Stanley Schmidt, Louis "Butch" Schmidt; sisters, Mary (Ray) VanEe, Louise (Roy) Doxey, Pat Dean; sisters-in-law, Lucille Falch, Midge Schmidt; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 1977; sons-in-law, Donald & Jim; brothers & sisters, Ed, Johnny, Allie, Ronnie, Sylvia, Leona; sister-in-law, Cleo. Mrs. Striegle was a life long member of St. Mary's Visitation Parish where Mass of Christian Burial took place with Fr. Richard Altine as Celebrant. Interment at New Salem cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association or Dorr Ambulance. Arrangements made by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel.

COOK -- Michael E. Cook, aged 48, of Wayland, passed away Friday, March 21, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Therese; sons, Matthew Cook & friend, Kelly, Gregory & fiance Jennifer & Jacob; his parents, Eugene & Marie Cook; five brothers, Mark (Jacee) Cook, Larry (Ruth) Cook, Lewis (Debra) Cook, Donald (Tammy) Cook, Douglas & fiance Shelly; sister, Patricia Cook & fiance' Russ; his mother & father-in-law, Margaret & Stanley Iciek; also several nieces, nephews, brothers & sisters-in-law. Mike served in the U.S. Army & was employed for 25 years with Hopkins School Transportation Dept. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday at St. Therese Church with Fr. Gary Pamment as celebrant. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayland or Hopkins Fire Dept. or Wayland Area Ambulance. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

BURNS -- Sylvia Rose Burns, aged 75 of Kentwood and formerly of Dorr, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2003. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Amberg; grandsons, Justin (Tiffany) Amberg and Jacob Amberg; brothers, Stanley Schmidt and Louis Schmidt; sisters, Louise (Roy) Doxey, Mary (Raymond) VanEe, Adeline Striegle and Patricia Dean; several nieces, nephews and many close friends. Funeral Services were held Friday at the Funeral Home with Father Richard Altine of St. Mary's Visitation Church officiating. Interment at Dorr cemetery. Memorials to the American Lung Association and American Red Cross. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Dorr Chapel

VELDERMAN -- Olive Norma (Luneke) Velderman, age 86, of Middleville passed away on Monday, March 17, 2003. Norma was born on July 23, 1916 in Big Rapids, Michigan, the 3rd daughter of Norman and Olive (Dougherty) Luneke. Well known for the weekly "Down Memory Lane" column with Lois Bremer in the Sun and News, Norma enjoyed sharing her discoveries of the history of Barry County. As a Navy Flight Instructor during World War II and as a certified elementary teacher, Norma demonstrated her love of teaching. She and her Leader Dog, Houston, were friends to many. Norma was preceded in death by John, her husband of 57 years, in 2000. She is survived by a sister, Lyda Veit of Arlington, Virginia; by 6 children, Jana Peden of Victoria, British Columbia, Ted Velderman of Traverse City, Michigan, Pat Velderman of Westfield, New Jersey, Mary Baggott of Hillsbro, Oregon, Cay Velderman of Middleville and David Velderman of White Lake, Michigan; by 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on March 24 at 1PM at the Parmalee United Methodist Church at 9266 Parmalee Rd., Middleville with a reception and coffee to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Barry Community Hospice, 450 Meadowrun Drive, Hastings, MI 49058. Norma was an active, vivacious and loving person. She is missed.

JACKSON -- Jean Maxine Jackson, aged 79, of Wayland, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 11, 2003. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, James; sons, Clayton (Elda) of Wayland, Lloyd of Wayland, Ralph (Betty) of Wayland, daughter, Jean (Ken) Haan of Wayland; grandchildren, Kevin, Amanda, Brenda, Beth and Brad; brother, Theron (Lois) Thaler of Middleville; sister-in-law, Lila Thaler; brother-in-law, Robert Randolph; several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by other loving relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held Saturday at Leighton United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Townsend and Pastor Robert Mayo officiating. Interment at Hill cemetery. Memorials may be made for Pulmonary Fibrosis or the Church Building Fund. Arrangements by: Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

FRARY -- Josephine Marie Frary, aged 90 of Wayland, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2003, at the Laurels of Sandy Creek in Wayland. She is survived by a granddaughter, Diane Frary of California; nieces and nephews, Jonine Collins, Sue Ellen Naiberk and John R. Hixson, all of Colorado, Crayton Frary and Aileen Dixson, both of Kentucky, Donna (Bernie) Damveld of Dorr and Harold (Barb) Hulst of Holland. Funeral and Committal Services were held at the Wayland United Methodist Church with Rev. Julie Dix and Rev. Stacy Minger officiating. Interment at Glenwood cemetery in Flint, Michigan. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

HOOKER -- William W. Hooker III, aged 59, of Wayland, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at his home and has gone to the great duck pond in the sky. He is survived by his father, William (Lois) Hooker II; brother, Eric (Lola) Hooker; sister, Mary (Ray) Tong; nieces, Jenevieve Tong & Amy Watson; nephew, Levi Watson. William was preceded in death by his mother, Avis Hooker. He was an avid duck hunter. Funeral Services were held March 3, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor Nancy Zerban officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Memorials may be made to Wayland Area Ambulance, Allegan County Wings of Hope Hospice or American Cancer Society. Arrangements made by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

POWERS -- Virginia F. Powers, aged 76, of Wayland, passed away at home, Friday, February 28, 2003. She is survived by her children, Donnean (Howard) Slaughter, Christine (Gary) Tanner, Nelda (Bernard) Bixler, Darrelyn Stone, Virginia (James) Keller, Cathy (Terry) Kelly, Wendy (Richard) Walter, Leslie (Cheryl) Powers, Lori (Dave) Edwards and Kevin Powers; 35 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Bucks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth (Eunice) Powers, Margaret Powers, Ruth Powers and Gene Adamy. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, in May 2002; granddaughter, Natalie Powers; three great grandchildren, John, Michael & Stephanie. Funeral Services were held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wayland with Pastor Rick Scheibe officiating. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. Memorial may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or Allegan County Wings of Hope Hospice. . Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

VAN LEEUWEN -- John Van Leeuwen, aged 76, of Hospers Iowa, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, February 9, 2003. He was preceded in death by daughter, Linda; parents, Al and Agnes; wife's parents, Peter and Mary Swets; brother, Jake; and sister, Joyce Beltman. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Pat (Gordon) Bruxvoort, Barb (John) Van Vugt, all of Iowa, Mary (Ron) Jansen, of Dorr; Joel (Doris) Van Leeuwen; Emily (Darwin) Boer; and Tom (Jodi) Van Leeuwen all of Iowa. This kindhearted grandfather is sadly missed by 23 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also mourning are siblings Kay (Bill) Beltman, Joan (Andy) Miedema, Betty (Tess) Van Schepen, Jim (Gladys) Beltman, all of Iowa and Corkie Van Leeuwen of Hudsonville. John was born December 3, 1926. He served in the United States Army at the close of World War II and was stationed in Japan. He and Evelyn were married in Sheldon on July 28, 1948, and made their home together in Hospers for 54 years. He was employed by Vogel Pain and Wax Company in Orange City as a truck driver for 31 years. There was a funeral service on February 12 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hospers. Memorials are being direct to Sioux County, Iowa, Hospice.

VANDER WERF, Helen E., Monterey Twp., Hopkins, MI, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Allegan General Hospital. Mrs. Vander Werf was born Nov. 22, 1914 in Cedar Springs, the daughter of Joel and Bessie (Baldwin) Cram. Surviving are 4 children and their spouses, William Vander Werf of Hopkins, Larry and Angela Vander Werf of Ohio, Russel and Sandy Vander Werf of Jenison and Elizabeth and Clarence Tolhurst of Bradley; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1982; 1 granddaughter and 10 brothers and sisters. Friends met with the family from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, www.gordenfuneral.com, where funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. Mr. Trayton Lull officiated. Interment Poplar Hill cemetery.

DENNEY -- Tessie Denney, aged 99, passed away February 26, 2003 and went to be with her Lord. Tessie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one son, James; two sisters; three brothers. Mrs. Denney is survived by two daughters, Marjorie (Frank) Van Drunen of Dorr, Della (Dale) Mester of Clare; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Cooper of Kentucky and Dora Lykins of Cincinnati, OH; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Saturday at the Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center with Rev. Warren Burgess of Corinth Reformed Church officiating. Interment Forest Hills cemetery, Evart. Memorial contributions may be made to the Corinth Reformed Church Building Fund (129 100th St., Byron Center, 49315). KRICK -- Ruth Almira (Miles) Krick, aged 95, of Wayland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 23, 2003. Ruth was well liked at the Laurels of Sandy Creek, where she has been a resident the past few years. She was always interested in the lives of others and enjoyed people of all ages. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl and her son, Larry. She is survived by her daughter in law, Marilyn Krick of Nokomis, Fl., her daughters, Arla (William) Kimbrell of Vidor, Tx. and Elaine (Duane) Van Volkinburg of Wayland; grandchildren, Randy Krick, Brett (Twilla) Krick, Jim Krick, Dawn Katje, Kate (Jim) Ebright, Melissa (Bill) Burness, Jackie (Travis) Holman, Ron (Miriam) Van Volkinburg, Roger (Cindy) Van Volkinburg, Tim Van Volkinburg, Joyce (Jeff) Pintarelli, Terry (JoAnn) Van Volkinburg; nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her oldest brother, Nelson Miles of Grayling; her sister, Avis Sponable of Richland, and her youngest brother, Rev. John (Evelyn) Miles of LaGrange, Wy.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held at Wayland Calvary Church with Rev. Bob Sponable officiating. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. Ruth always loved flowers but suggested that memorial contributions be made to Frontier Bible College or Tentmakers Bible Mission. Arrangements made by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak Funeral Home, Wayland Chapel.

BLAIR -- George A. Blair, aged 83, of Hopkins Twp., passed away Friday, February 7, 2003. He is survived by his son, Floyd (Gayle) Blair; daughters, Margaret (Calvin) Judy, Joyce Blair; grandchildren, Lisa & Sheila Gulch, Raquel Dahene & Kimberly Burns, Barbara Blair & Robert Blair; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Scott, Paige, Cody, Amanda, Jordan, Tyler, Logan & Desiree; also his sister, Avis (Bud) Johnson; brother, Grover (Ruby) Blair. George was preceded in death by his wife, Florence and brother, Forest Blair. Funeral Services were held on Monday at Orangeville Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Bowman officiating. Interment at Maplewood cemetery, Hopkins Twp. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

CROFOOT -- Martha Lucille Crofoot, age 88 of Wayland, passed away Monday, December 22, 2003 at Laurels of Sandy Creek Nursing Home. Martha was born October 9, 1915 in Leighton Township, the daughter of Otto & Minerva Finkbeiner. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1934. Martha married Bob Crofoot on March 5, 1937. Surviving are her husband, Bob Crofoot Sr.; sons, Bob (Rosalie) Crofoot, John (Barbara Van Duren) Crofoot, all of Wayland; four grandchildren, Pat (Mark) Miller and Kim (Dave) Klamer, Eric and Kevin Van Duren; five great grandchildren, Paul, Steve (Jenny) & Ben Miller, Jeff Grochowalski, Kris Klamer; also her sister Dorothy (Wayne) Chrisman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto & Minerva Finkbeiner. Martha enjoyed watching sports of all types, especially those played by family members. She enjoyed SCRAPBOOKING, tracing the family heritage, traveling and being with her family. Funeral & Committal was held Wednesday at Wayland United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Besemer officiating. Interment Elmwood cemetery. Donations may be made to Wayland Area Ambulance or Wayland United Methodist Church Building Fund. Arrangements made by Archer Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

WOOTEN -- Carlos Lee Wooten, aged 46 of Wayland Twp., passed away at home Friday, December 19, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughter, Lydia (Ed) Roblyer, three grandchildren, Blake, Shelby and Montana; mother, Lois Jean Wooten; sister, Sharon England; three brothers, Conrad Wooten, Daniel Wooten, and Joe Wooten; several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, David H., and two brothers. Funeral Service was Tuesday, December 23 at the Pentacostal Church of Christ in Orangeville with Rev. Sherry Washburn and Rev. Mike Risner officiating. Interment Messer cemetery. Memorials may be made to Uptown Church Missions to Guatamala. Arrangements made by Archer Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.
