ADAMS: Kirby G. Adams, aged 49, of Saugatuck and formerly of Wayland, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 8, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha and Brad Wood; grandchildren Daynah and Carter; mother Virginia and stepfather John White; sisters Patricia and Robert Clark, Deborah and Michael Jehl; brother Keith Adams; niece Andrea Jehl; nephews Arthur Clark and Daniel Jehl; also many special close friends. Kirby was preceded in death by his father, Winfield Adams. Graveside services at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2003, at Riverside cemetery on Blue Star Hwy, Saugatuck Twp., with Pastor Nancy Zerban officiating. Memorials may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County or United Church of Wayland. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

GARDNER - Marshall (Mike) Gardner, aged 65, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Wayland, son of Robert and Barbara, passed away following accidental injuries on Saturday, October 4, 2003. He is survived by his twin sister, Marcia Lapham-Phelps; brother, Robert (Helen) Gardner; also nieces and nephews. He was joined in death with his friend, Alvina Tasma. Mike participated in the over 55 age softball league and enjoyed cribbage and bowling leagues. His Home Going Celebration Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Wayland United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Besemer officiating. His cremains will be interred at Elmwood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayland United Methodist Church Memorial fund. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel and Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

KADWELL - Charlotte Marie (Frank) Kadwell, aged 68, of Dorr Twp., went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 6, 2003. She was an active member of Leighton United Methodist Church. Mrs. Kadwell was a school teacher for 33 years, starting in a one room schoolhouse at Miner Lake and retired in 1987 from Wayland Union Schools. Surviving are her loving husband, Emmett Sr., whom she married on November 10, 1961; her children, Emmett Jr. (Mary) Kadwell, of Niles; Dennis (Joy) Kadwell, of Kentwood; Garry (Deb) Kadwell, of Lowell; Roger (Christina) Kadwell of Richland; and Kathryn (Mark) Deemter, of Hopkins; grandchildren Darron (Beth) Kadwell; Keith (Sara) Kadwell; Stephen Kadwell, Emily Kadwell, Nathan Kadwell, Benjamin (Sara) Kadwell, Jacob and Jordan Kadwell; Greg, Brant and Gavin Deemter; also one great-granddaughter, Lindi Kadwell; sisters Beverly McBride, Fran Bueschel; brothers George Frank, Forest (Sandee) Frank and Terry (Susie) Frank; also a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were Thursday at Leighton United Methodist Church with Pastors Ken Vaught and Ray Townsend officiating. Interment at Dorr cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Leighton United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel and Kubiak, Dorr Chapel.

KERN -- Lois V. Kern, aged 79, of Hopkins, died Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Laurels of Sandy Creek, Wayland. Mrs. Kern was born June 30, 1924 in Salem Township, MI, the daughter of Sylvester and Clara (Clark) Raab. She had worked at General Electric in Holland for 20 years retiring in 1988. Surviving are 5 children and their spouses, Gregory & Sandy Kern of Lansing, Stewart Kern of Allegan, Bradley Kern of Allegan, Barbara & Charles Wamhoff of Hopkins, Ruth & Larry Cook of Hopkins; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Sylvester Raab, Jr of Dorr, Francis & Eleanor Raab of Burnips; 4 sisters, Agnes Kleis of Lansing, Elnora Zischke of Burnips, Ulah Payton of California, Edith Raab of Wyoming, MI; 1 sister-in-law, Doris Plogsterd of Hopkins; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin in 1993, a son, Daniel; and a brother, Melbourne Raab. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Oct 7 at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel with Mr. Comer Skinner speaking. Interment Poplar Hill cemetery, Monterey Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

WALKER - Patricia L. Walker, aged 70 of Barlow Lake, passed away at home on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003. She is survived by children, Pam (Mike) Scott, Karen (Jess) Reil, Cindy Thompson; and very special friends Paul (Doc) Smith; grandchildren Michelle, Nicki, Kevin, Sara, Valerie, Bill, Chad, Shawn, Jessica, Kris and Cody; and seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sister Doris Doxey, Russell (Shirley) Smith, Ron (Linda) Smith, Robert (Hyla) Smith, Bruce (June) Smith; aunts Marie Bennett and Maxine Smith; uncle Lee Schrivnar; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Harry and a sister Donna. Ladies Auxiliary Post #7581 of Wayland conducted a memorial service at 7 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services were a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Besemer of the Wayland United Methodist Church officiating. Interment at Maplewood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Thornapple Township Ambulance or Home for Veterans in Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

LEMAIRE -- Mary Jo, passed away on September 22, 2003. She was born on May 3, 1936. She is survived by her daughter, Veronica (Dusty) Burns. Memorial Service will be held on October 11, 2003 at 11AM at Community of Christ Church, Alaska, MI.

SCHAFFER -- Jack Schaffer aged 80, of Middleville, passed away Wednesday October 1, 2003 at home. He is survived by two daughters, Carmel Kay (Ralph) Hoover of Battle Creek, and Jorga Hoffman of Texas, and three sons, Steven (Rebecca) Schaffer of Hopkins, Biff (Jacqueline) Schaffer of Hopkins, and Kent Schaffer of Middleville. Also fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two sisters, Grace (Frank)Goretzka of Richland, Pat Holes of Middleville. Also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Charlene Schaffer, and daughter, Cathy Lee Schaffer. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Beeler Funeral Chapel, Middleville. Pastor Clayton Garrison officiating. Internment Robbins cemetery, Yankee Springs Township. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Jack Schaffer was born on September 1, 1923 in Middleville, Michigan, the son of Claude and Hazel Schaffer. He was married to Charlene Sutton on November 26, 1949. Jack was employed at and retired from Cady Aluminum as a tool and die foreman. He was a member of Wayland VFW Post. Jack spent his entire life as an avid outdoorsman, hunting and fishing, and could recount many stories of the history of the Yankee Springs area. Hobby included woodworking and refinishing furniture for friends and neighbors.Arrangements by Beeler Funeral Home, Middleville.

ANDERSON -- Jack Andrew, 49 years old, passed away on January 6, 2004 in Ellenton, FL. He is survived by his mother Jeannette Anderson of Palmetto, FL, children Jessica Anderson of Bradenton, FL, Michael and Sarah Anderson of Grawn, MI, siblings James Anderson of Parrish, FL, John Anderson of Delton, MI and Denise Kraai of Shelbyville, MI. Funeral arrangements are with Griffin-Cline in Ellenton, FL. Donations to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34238; 941.923.5822.

REURINK -- Henry, Jr., Aged 80, of Shelbyville, MI, died Monday, January 5, 2004. Mr. Reurink was born June 23, 1923 in Sanborn, IA, the son of Henry and Gertie (Van Renselaar) Reurink. He retired, after 50 years, as a tool grinder at General Motors. He was a veteran of WWII and had been a member of the Masons. Surviving are 4 children and their spouses, Richard and Mary Reurink of Middleville, Mary and Michael Poeller of Battle Creek, Jane and Kenneth Worstell of Otsego, and Susan and Jim King of Hastings; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 1 brother and his wife, John and Clarissa Reurink of Wayland; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte, son, Hank, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Cremation has taken place. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in South Martin cemetery, Martin, MI. Arrangements by Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. www.gordenfuneral.com

SCHMIDT -- Stan Schmidt, aged 82 of Dorr, passed away at peace on January 2, 2004 free from Alzheimer's and now with many loved ones. He will be forever missed but all his helpful and fond memories will live on with his loving daughters, Elaine & Laurie; two grateful grandchildren, Todd and Tracey and his "Bo-Hunks" and "Stinky-Doodles" great grandchildren, Kelsey and Cody; brother, Louis "Butch" Schmidt; sisters, Mary (Ray) Vanee, Pat Dean, Louise (Roy) Doxey; sisters-in-law, Irene and Louise Fisher, several nieces and nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Cleo and his son, Gary David, who will welcome him into heaven; parents, Allie & Anna Schmidt; stepfather, John; siblings, Ed, Johnny, Allie, Ronnie, Adeline, Sylvia and Leona. Hard work was Stan's middle name. Retiring from Spartan Warehouse after 38 years. His hobbies were raising hogs and helping raise his grandchildren and great grandchildren with love and guidance. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at St. Mary's Visitation Parish with Fr. Richard Altine as celebrant. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. SKORUPSKI -- Charles J. Skorupski, aged 78, formerly of Dorr passed away, Monday, January 5, 2004 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He is survived by his daughters: Yvonne (Gene) Dillard, LuAnn (Mike) Selzer; son, Chuck Skorupski, Jr.; sisters, Vicky Oglesbee and Mary Grochoski; Mrs. Skorupski was preceded in death by his sister, Agnes Wisniewski. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. There will no funeral service. His cremains will be interred at Jones cemetery, Dorr Twp. Memorials may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans-Barber Shop. The family will greet relatives & friends Saturday, January 10 from 2-4 & 6-8 at the funeral home. The family also invites their family & friends to the Wayland VFW Post for a luncheon from 4-6 in between the visitations. Arrangements made by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

GABALA -- Thomas M. Gabala, aged 88 of Wayland Twp., passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sylvia; children, James (Lois) Gabala, Eleanor (LeRoy) Mandeville, Marilyn Betts, Thomas (Marilyn) Gabala, Jr.; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son-in-law, James Betts. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at St. Therese Church with Fr. Larry Kroll as celebrant. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. MUTSCHLER -- Julius Mutschler, aged 87, of Wayland, passed away, Monday, December 29, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret; his children, Kathleen (Richard) Weller of Hastings, Julia (Sheldon) Green of Frankfort, Jay (Serena) Mutschler of Colorado, Mary Ruth (Scott) Chestnut of Wayland, Conrad (Laurie) Mutschler of Holland; 10 grandchildren, Richelle (Sean) Quick of Portage, Craig (Kim) Weller of Greenville, Bradley (Cheri) Weller of Kalamazoo, Angela (Ramon) Castelo of Texas, Michael Green of Texas, Brianna & Jake Mutschler of Colorado, Grant Chestnut of Wayland & Daniel & Aaron Mutschler of Holland; six great grandchildren; sister, Irma Fargo of Allegan; sisters-in-law, Lila Thaler of Grand Rapids, Eva Smith of Ohio & Pearl Ray of Remo, MI; brother-in-law, Bryce (Mary Ellen) Smith of Caledonia; also several nieces & nephews. Mr. Mutschler served as a board member for the East Allegan Soil Conservation District & the Allegan County Farm Bureau. As a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church for 75 years, he served on numerous boards and was a lay representative to Annual Conference. He was a life member and Past Master of the Free & Accepted Masons and was a charter member of the Leighton Township Planning Commission. As a young man her boxed in the Grand Rapids Golden Gloves tournaments and was the West Michigan lightweight champion in 1933. He was a progressive dairy farmer and upon retiring continued to raise crops and beef cattle. In retirement, Julius and his beloved, Margaret, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and aboard. Funeral Services will be 11AM Saturday at Wayland United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Besemer officiating. Interment at Elmwood cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to United Church of Wayland, Wayland United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Wayland Area Ambulance. Arrangements by Archer, Hampel & Kubiak, Wayland Chapel.

SCHWARTZ -- Roy M, aged 80 of Castalia and formally of Wayland passed away on December 25, 2003 at the Lutheran Memorial Home following a lengthy illness. He was born on March 9, 1923 in Allegan. He graduated from Wayland High School. He retired from the teamsters union after many years of driving truck, a veteran of the US Marine Corps during WW II, he served in the Pacific Theater. Roy was a member of the First Congregational Untied Church of Christ in San dusky; a lifetime member of the Lowell C. Hein Post 2529, VFW & a member of the Commodore Denig Post 83, American Legion. He enjoyed hunting & fishing & spending time with his family & friends. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Elmeda Nutter; three sons, Robert (Barb) Schwartz of Lansing, Nathan (Melanie) Schwartz of Clyde & Jeff Schwartz of Castalia; two daughters, Suzanne (Mark) Zachman of Ohio & Melissa Schwartz of Castalia; eight grandchildren, Eric, Thomas, Ethan, Sarah, Tabitha, Alyssa, Lexi & Brianne; one great grandson, Benjamin & several nieces & nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Harley & Margaret (Shaw) Schwartz, one sister, Janet Schwartz & two brothers, Gene & Robert Schwartz. Cremation has taken place.
