JOANN E. DILS

Clayton, Ohio

Joann E. Dils, 70, of Clayton, Ohio, died March 5, 2006 at Hospice of Dayton.

She was born May 18, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Everett and Martha (Simpson) Milburn. She graduated from Trotwood-Madison High School in 1953 and later worked at the Montgomery County Transportation Department as an aid for the last 14 years. She loved gardening, working on her homes, traveling, Sunday drives, being with family, friends and new experiences.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her devoted family: son, Jeffery E. (Lynn) Dils of Chelsea; daughter, Sandra J. Dils of Englewood, Ohio; sister, Connie (Mark) Guess of Jamestown, Ohio; grandchildren, Sooner Brooks-Heath and Crystal Bohse; and great grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Collin.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Rogers' Funeral Home in Trotwood, Ohio.

JOHANNA H. WARREN

Grand Rapids

Johanna H. Warren (nee Brueckner), 88, of Grand Rapids died March 3, 2006.

As the oldest daughter of the Rev. Moritz Brueckner and his wife Martha, she was actively involved in the life of his congregations. After graduating from Chelsea High School, she attended Robinwood School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. She earned her RN and worked actively in nursing most of her life. She also taught nursing.

She married Robert R. Warren in 1939. Johanna and Bob gave their children a wide appreciation of life and learning. She was widowed in 1975.

Music was an important part of her life. She sang with the choirs of almost all the churches to which she belonged and also played the organ. She played piano for a dance band and sang with Sweet Adelines; singing together was an important part of gatherings.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Irma Schaeffer; and her brothers, Bruno and Moritz Brueckner. She is survived by her children, John and Beverly Warren of Hastings, Eric and Sally Warren of Rockford, Christine Smith of Cape Coral, Fla., and Fred Warren of N. Muskegon; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Hunter of DeMoines, Wash.; a brother, Ted (Doris) Brueckner of Mill Creek, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Monday at the Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford with the Rev. Marcie Miller officiating. Interment was at Toledo Memorial Gardens.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Ascension Lutheran Church.

MAUDE ADELLA BROWN

Ann Arbor

Maude Adella Brown, 94, of Ann Arbor died March 13, 2006.

Mrs. Brown was twice blessed as she was happy and knew it. While some lives are measured by greatness, hers could be measured by goodness. She loved life and reflected that love back to her family and friends.

Born at home May 17, 1911, in Libertyville, Ill., Mrs. Brown had a love of learning that began early in life. She was always the teacher, playing school with her sister and brothers.

Reading and books were so important to her that she became a librarian for the Chicago Public Library. She also received awards for her volunteer work in elementary schools during her retirement.

She was a Girl Scout troop leader, Sunday school teacher, church organist, and enjoyed playing the piano. She also served as an officer of the Eastern Star for many years.

Mrs. Brown and her husband, Kenneth, traveled, visiting all 50 states during their lifetime together. Their goal was to see every national park.

For the last two years, she enjoyed living at Hillside Terrace and made many friends there, including her good friend Jane, and with the many dedicated and caring staff members.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years; a daughter, Barbara Julia Brown; her brothers, Warren, Benjamin and Raymond; a niece, Sharon; and her son-in-law, Michael Lindner.

She leaves behind her loving and devoted daughter, Karen Adele Lindner, and her sister, Belva Brown.

In addition, her family said she was proud of her loving nieces and nephews, Judy, Josephine, Roxanna, Lorraine, Olive, Margie, Benny, Richard, Fred and Wesley; and her "grandson, " Daniel.

There are many good friends and family members who will miss her very much, they said.

Visitation was Friday at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter. A funeral was held Saturday.

ELEANOR E. (GILBERT) REYNOLDS

North Lake

Eleanor E. "Ellie" (Gilbert) Reynolds, 92, of North Lake died peacefully in her sleep March 15, 2006. She was born Sept. 16, 1913, in Highland Park the daughter of Alexander and Mary (Dearing) Gilbert.

Mrs. Reynolds spent much of her life in the North Lake area, which she cherished very much. She was a member of the North Lake United Methodist Church since her childhood and was a member of Inverness Country Club at North Lake all of her adult life.

On May 7, 1936, she married William D. "Don" Reynolds in Angola, Ind. He died April 6, 1985.

Mrs. Reynolds was also preceded in death by an infant son, Alan Gilbert Reynolds; her sister, Mary Gilbert; her brother, Jack Gilbert; her mother, Mary (Dearing) Gilbert DeKarske; and her father, Alexander Gilbert.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Reynolds) Perelman; a son-in-law, Scott Perelman; and beloved grandson, Samuel Perelman, all of Monroe.

She is also survived by her sister, Catherine (Harold) Paul of Ann Arbor; sister-in-law Sylvia Gilbert of North Lake; sister-in-law Lois (Reynolds) Bush of Bakersfield, Calif.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Reynolds will be lovingly remembered for her competitive spirit, whether in golf, fishing, bowling, bingo, cards or any challenge.

For many years, she was a tireless volunteer in area assisted-living and nursing homes, playing the piano for residents to brighten their days. She served as the choir director and/or church organist at the North Lake United Methodist Church, and served on various church committees for many years.

Mrs. Reynolds was a role model to many whose lives she touched.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at the North Lake United Methodist Church in the summer.

ROBERT L. SCHULTZ, SR.

Lake Placid, Fla.

Formerly of Dexter

Robert L. Schultz, 75, of Lake Placid died April 20, 2006, at his residence. He was born in Detroit, the son of Brenton Sr. and Bertha Schultz.

Mr. Schultz was a member of the Dexter High School football team and was never scored upon one year and undefeated another, receiving personal congratulations from University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler at a house party.

Mr. Schultz served the country in the U.S. Army for six years, stationed in Alaska, Virginia and Washington.

He was a charter member of the Dexter Lions Club and a member of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's dive recovery team.

Before moving to Belle Glade, he was the owner of the Mill Creek Sporting Goods Store in Dexter, and he continued repairing Evinrude motors and providing golf course grounds maintenance in Florida.

Mr. Schultz is survived by his loving wife, Betty, of 55 years; daughters, Pamela (Jay) Tasker and Susan (Ross) Davenport; and son, Bobby (Debbie) Schultz.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Britt (Julie) Tasker; Karra (Andy) Dettling; Joshua, Jacob and Jesse Schultz; and Rebecca, Sarah and Zachary Davenport.

In addition, twin great-grandchildren; his mother, Bertha; a twin brother, Brenton Jr. (Marcie); and sister, Marielayn (Raymond) Newell, survive.

Services to be held at a later date in Michigan.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 4418 Sun 'N' Lake Blvd., Sebring, Fla. 33852.

CATHERINE OLDS

Chelsea

Catherine Olds, 96, of Chelsea died peacefully in her sleep April 13, 2006, at the Chelsea Retirement Center. She was born March 2, 1910, in Syracuse, N.Y., the daughter of Chester and Julie Sampson.

Mrs. Olds lived life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and teacher. A graduate of Aurora College in Aurora, Ill., she taught elementary school in Illinois and Michigan, and was a piano teacher and public speaking tutor.

She carried a lifelong love of music and poetry, which she passed on to her children, Daniel (Edith) Wolter of Napa, Calif., David (Jean) Wolter of Chelsea and Jean (David) Peters of Champaign, Ill. Other survivors include a sister, Marietta Burr of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husbands Ralph Wolter, William Wenninger and Charles Olds, as well as her parents and two sisters.

Burial was held at the Oakview cemetery in Royal Oak next to her parents and her first husband, Ralph.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service 3:30 p.m. May 11 at the Chelsea Retirement Center chapel, followed by an Irish wake at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, David and Jean Wolter.

Those who wish to make a memorial may do so by telling someone important that you love them, her family said.

ALICE MAY GUERIN

Edmore

Formerly of Chelsea

Alice May Guerin, 75, of Edmore died May 3, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Guerin was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Barryton, the daughter of Arthur and Luzella "Jean" (Beardsley) Maynard. She married Robert Guerin March 14, 1953, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea. They moved to Edmore after retirement in 1992.

Mrs. Guerin was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea, and had been attending St. Leo's Church in Winn.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; son, Mark Guerin of Edmore; two grandchildren; Samantha Guerin of Papillion, Neb., and Brett Guerin of Lincoln Park; a brother, Delbert (Barbara) Maynard of Lansing; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Frank, Robert and Clyde Maynard, and her parents.

A funeral was held May 6 at the Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd.

Interment was held at Brown cemetery in Barryton.

SARAH ANN JOSEPH

Chelsea

Sarah Ann Joseph, 77, of Chelsea died May 6, 2006, at Evangelical Home in Saline. She was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Hahira, Ga., the daughter of Thomas and Della Mae (Brady) Melton.

Mrs. Joseph had lived in Chelsea since 1958, coming from Jackson. She worked in Chelsea schools for 25 years as a custodian.

She was very social, and enjoyed dancing and time with family and friends. She was a full-time mother, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's activities.

On Oct. 31, 1955, she married Ronald Joseph in Jackson and he survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Ronald E. of Cadillac, Dona T. (Bobbi) of Canton and Louis P. (Sherrie) of Lincoln Park; one daughter, Vickie L. (Eddie) Hamilton of Chelsea; 13 grandchildren, Amber Jean Fish, Brad Cole, Jason Cole, Gordon Cole, Sarah Cole, Michael Hamilton, Tylor Joseph, Ron Joseph, Travis Fezeal, Alissa Brown, Angela Fernandez, Lisa Fernandez and Christopher Fernandez; and an aunt and uncle, Earl and Hazel Hill of Georgia.

She is also survived by five children from her first marriage, Barb (Guy) Cole, Connie (Pat) Saurez, Cathy (Donnie) Ballard, Frank (Kathy) Henry and Linda Muller.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Ann Joseph, Sept. 19, 1993, and by her sister, Betty Jo.

A funeral was held Wednesday at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. The Rev. Jeff Crowder officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Evangelical Home in Saline or Hospice of Michigan.

VERNELLE B. SORRELS

Louisville, Ky.

Vernelle B. Sorrels of Louisville, Ky., died April 28, 2006. She is the mother of Jane S. (Steve) Hoggard of Dexter and Barbara (Mike) Huston of Fort Wright, Ky.; and grandmother to Lee and Clay Hoggard.

Services were held May 3 in Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
