ROBERT BLYNN HARRIS

Robert Blynn Harris, 84, of Chelsea, formerly of Ann Arbor, died April 27, 2003, at his home. He was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Paul, Idaho, to Riley and Addie (Scouton) Harris. He married
Jean M. Petchell Dec. 17, 1949, in Ann Arbor, and she survives.
Also surviving are five children, William (Kathy) of Grand Rapids, James (Laura) of Naperville, Ill., David (Susan) of Winston-Salem, N.C., Peter (Jan) of Ypsilanti and Richard of California; as well as nine wonderful grandchildren.
Mr. Harrris was professor emeritus of civil engineering at the University of Michigan when he died. He was a faculty member in the department of civil engineering from 1947 to 1987.
A pioneer in construction engineering and management research and education, he had a prominent role in the development and advancement of the field of construction engineering and management at U of M, throughout the United States and internationally.
The construction engineering and management graduate program at U of M that he helped establish in 1954 is the oldest in the world and the first to offer a separate graduate degree in construction engineering and management.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Ann Arbor. The Rev. Marsha Woolley officiated.

MARGARET M. REED SCHILZ
Ann Arbor
Formerly of Dexter
Margaret M. Reed Schilz, 81, of Ann Arbor, formerly of Dexter, died May 5, 2003, at the University of Michigan Hospital following a long illness. She was born April 30, 1922, in Wolverine the daughter of Frank and Ethel (Titus) Reed.
Mrs. Schilz lived most of her life in the Chelsea and Dexter area. For the past 10 years, she resided in the Parkway Meadows in Ann Arbor.
On April 5, 1946, she married
James C. Schilz and he preceded her in death in April of 1995.
Mrs. Schilz was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and true friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Donald Schilz of Tecumseh, Timothy (Sara) Schilz of Pinckney, Frances (Ronald) Ferry of Dexter and Richard Reed of California, as well as a brother, Robert (Gladys) Reed of Chelsea.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Schilz has been cremated. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea. The Rev. Jennifer Whatley-Williams will officiate.

MAX G. HEPBURN
Chelsea
Max G. Hepburn, 83, of Chelsea died May 4, 2003, at his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Chelsea the son of William and Margaret "Maggie" (Hudson) Hepburn. He lived in the Chelsea area all of his life.
Mr. Hepburn is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Whipple) Hepburn, of 57 years.
For several years, he managed Kroger stores in Chelsea, Dexter and Ann Arbor. The last 20 years of his employment were spent with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a supervisor at the main post office on Stadium Boulevard in Ann Arbor.
Mr. Hepburn was active with the Boy Scouts in Chelsea, in particular Troop 476, for years. He served as a trustee of the Congregational Church, where he was a member for 56 years.
Mr. Hepburn was also a member of the Rod and Gun Club, serving as president the year the clubhouse was started.
He was in the military during World War II and was member of American Legion Post 31.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, John (Pat) Hepburn of Chelsea and Thomas (Teresa) Hepburn of Flint; three daughters, Cindy (Bill) Harris of Chelsea, Alison (George) Trevino of Chelsea and Nancy (Richard) Loftis of Jackson; a brother-in-law, Robert Devine of Chelsea; a sister-in-law, Mary Whipple of Dexter; 12 grandchildren, Samantha Hepburn, Max Hepburn, Andrew Hepburn, Stephen Hepburn, Gerald Harris, Charles Harris, Molly Harris, Jared Clark, Brian Clark, James Clark, Damon Loftis and Kristy Loftis; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A son, Philip, preceded him in death in 1964. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and Dale.
A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church of Chelsea. The Rev. Paul Kuntzman will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea.
The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. today, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. Visitation also will take place noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the First Congregational Church.
LAURA MULL
Chelsea
Formerly of Dexter
Laura Mull, 83, of Chelsea, formerly of Dexter, died Jan. 20, 2003, at her residence at Towsley Village in the Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born July 10, 1919, in Conde, S.D., the middle child of 11 born to Milo and Minnie Hazel (Roberts) Zeck.
Mrs. Mull married
Lloyd H. Mull of Ypsilanti on June 29, 1946, and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2001.
Prior to moving to Chelsea in 1994, the couple made their home in Dexter for more than 40 years. Mrs. Mull was a member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Dexter.
Her favorite hobbies were baking delicious homemade bread and beating her sisters at Scrabble.
Mrs. Mull is survived by her children, Myla (Norman) Somers of South Lyon, Den (Terry) Mull of Ypsilanti, Ron (Jearl) Mull of Jackson and Joey Mull of Ypsilanti.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Thomas Mull of Ann Arbor, Mark (Susan) Mull of Stockbridge, Jennifer (Jan) Ganzel of Bellaire and Kristina Mull of Stone Mt., Ga.; two sisters, Doris Kosley of Farmington Hills and Dortha Cavanaugh of Chelsea; a brother, Howard (Dorothy) Zeck of Ann Arbor; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. May 22 at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 3279 Broad St., in Dexter. The Rev. David Horning will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Towsley Village at the Chelsea Retirement Community or St. James’ Episcopal Church in Dexter.

ROBERT HOMER PARKS
Chelsea
Robert Homer Parks, 86, of Chelsea died May 6, 2003, at his home surrounded by his loving family and hospice. He was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Jackson County’s Waterloo Township the son of Homer and Lela (Greene) Parks.
Mr. Parks grew up on a farm. He helped build the bomber plant in Ypsilanti and was the plant’s superintendent during World War II.
Mr. Parks worked in construction and retired from Jeffress-Dyer Inc. in 1978. In addition, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea.
Mr. Parks married
Kathleen Ann Coughlin Oct. 2, 1943, in Ypsilanti, and she preceded him in death in 1993. A daughter, Nancy K. DeVoe, also preceded him in death in July 2000.
Surviving are his daughter, Roberta K. (Gary) Scripter of Grass Lake; nine grandchildren, Robert A. DeVoe, Dean DeVoe Jr., Donald J. DeVoe, Denise M. DeVoe, Dianne DeVoe, Deborah (Thomas) Loniewski, Michalla (Andrew) Stribe, Jason (Christian) Scripter, Russell Scripter and Robert (Erika) Scripter; 10 great-grandchildren, Taryn Romine, Sara Stribe, Mason Stribe, Mallory Stribe, Nicholas Scripter, Kathleen Scripter, Karolyn Scripter, Kayla Scripter, Henry Loniewski and Thomas Loniewski; two brothers, John and Richard Parks; and six sisters, Mildred Lantis, Gladys Murray, Dorothy Walbrook, Katherine Braver, Mary Retting and Helen Lake.
Also surviving are sisters- and brothers-in-law, Charles, Edward and Robert Coughlin, Dorothy Myers, Margaret Bollinger and Monica Ostram, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. William Turner officiated. The family received friends at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home, where a vigil was held last Thursday.
Burial was at Mount Olivet cemetery in Chelsea.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Hospice of Michigan.
"He will be remembered for his great love of his family. His pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, " his family said.
EDWARD "EDD" MARSHALL
Milan, Tenn.
Formerly of Chelsea
Edward "Edd" Marshall, 88, of Milan, Tenn., formerly of Chelsea, died May 8, 2003, in Milan, Tenn. He was born Oct. 22, 1914, in Magoffin County, Ky., the son of Vinson and Maudie (Risner) Marshall.
Mr. Marshall lived in Chelsea for more than 40 years and was a member of the Chelsea Church of Christ. He retired in 1976 from Federal Screw Works.
Mr. Marshall married
Sarah E. Salyer Oct. 13, 1934, in Kentucky, and she preceded him in death Feb. 19, 1992.
Mr. Marshall married
Lena Shepherd and she also preceded him in death.
Surviving are three sons, Cleadious Marshall of Georgia, Akel Marshall of Chelsea and Doug Marshall of Milan, Tenn.; four daughters, Delorse Hafley of Chelsea, Margaret (Richard) Steele of Chelsea, Virginia (Dempsey) Adkins of Milan, Tenn., and Bea Macomber of Chelsea; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lindle Marshall of Gun Creek, Ky., and Everett Marshall of Alpena; and two sisters, Blanche Koch of Grass Lake and Gertrude Flairda of Elida, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
A funeral was held Monday at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. The Rev. Brandon Coats officiated. Burial was at Maple Grove cemetery in Chelsea.

BARBARA REINHARDT
Chelsea
Barbara Reinhardt, 80, of Chelsea died April 24, 2003, at Arbor Hospice. She was born April 17, 1923, in Detroit the daughter of Harold and Fanny (Burton) Sharpe.
Mrs. Reinhardt lived in the Cavanaugh Lake area most of her life. She was active with a ceramics group that met at Cavanaugh Lake. She loved quilting, crafts, flower arranging and gardening.
She married
Ernest Reinhardt in Royal Oak, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reinhardt is survived by three daughters, Katherine (Mike) Starkey, Susan (Bill) Wix and Sally (Mark) Ramsey; a son, William Reinhardt; two brothers, Jerry (Virginia) Sharpe and John Sharpe; a sister, Elaine (Elton) Burnett; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Sharpe, and a grandson, Glenn Campbell.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea.
Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice. Arrangements were made by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.
MARILYNN A. VANDERLAAN
Chelsea
Marilynn A. Vanderlaan, 79, of Chelsea died May 8, 2003, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township. She was born Sept. 3, 1923, the daughter of Alvin B. and Mary A. (Cramer) Routsong.
Mrs. Vanderlaan graduated from St. Camillus School of Nursing Feb. 20, 1946, and was a registered nurse for Borgess and Bronson Hospital. She also worked for the Red Cross as a unit nurse.
Mrs. Vanderlaan enjoyed playing bridge, attending Tiger baseball games, as well as picking and cooking the bounty from her garden.
She married
Glenn Bennet Vanderlaan in Kalamazoo Aug. 13, 1950, and he preceded her in death May 29, 2001.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Robert) Renner of Pinckney; two grandchildren, Christopher Ronald Rice and Molly Anne Pfund; six great-grandchildren, Michael Bennet Reckner, Sarah Alisse Reckner, Megan Lynne Rice, Christine Rebecca Rice, Marianne Lynne Rice and Christopher Ronald Rice Jr.; and a brother, Jack Byrd of Traverse City.
The Vanderlaans were preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen Vanderlaan.
Memorial services to remember both Mrs. Vanderlaan and her husband, Glenn, were held Tuesday at the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. The Rev. Kathy Batell officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
Interment will be in Fort Custer National cemetery.
RICHARD A. HOARD
Gregory
Richard A. Hoard, 42, of Gregory died May 8, 2003, after a brief illness. He was born July 12, 1960, in Jackson the son of Allan and Catherine (LaPrad) Hoard.
Mr. Hoard was a lifelong resident of the area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and attending his children’s football and basketball games.
Mr. Hoard was a member of Saints Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church in Bunker Hill. He was a foreman with Krull Construction Co. and was also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Hoard married
Ann S. Parks Oct. 2, 1982, and she survives. Also surviving are his four children, Jacob A., Calvin W., Genna C. and Nicholas J.A.; his parents of Gregory; five siblings, Allen (Kelly) Hoard Jr. of Howell, Mark (Ann) Hoard of Munith, Claudia (Matt) Busen of Stockbridge, Annette (Rick) Pringle of Gregory and Tim (Diane) Hoard of Lake Wales, Fla.; his father- and mother-in-law, John and Donna Parks of Munith; a sister-in-law, Jane Schertzing of Chelsea; a brother-in-law, Don (Jerri) Parks of Munith, as well as Eric (Laura) Parks of Grass Lake, Alicia Parks of Munith, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hoard was preceded in death by his grandparents; a sister-in-law, Lela Park; and a brother-in-law, Christopher Schertzing.
A funeral Mass was held Monday at Saints Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church. The Rev. Eugene Beiter officiated. Burial was at the church cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to an educational fund for his children.
