Patrick G. Beyer

KINGSFORD - Patrick G. Beyer, 77, of Kingsford, died Friday, May 25, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. He was born on Nov. 11, 1929 in Kingsford, the son of the late Hiram and Violet (Kontio) Beyer.

Pat graduated from Kingsford High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Pat married Marion 'Elaine' Walsh in 1958 in Quinnesec. She preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1991.

In 1971, Pat bought the Ten-0-One Club tavern and restaurant in Green Bay and ran it successfully until his retirement in 1991. In 1996 he moved back to the Upper Peninsula. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and socializing.

He is survived by his three children Kathy Titel of Illinois, Jane Beyer of Green Bay, and Patrick C. (Debbie) Beyer of Ishpeming, and two grandsons Nathan Titel of Illinois and Patrick J. Beyer of Ishpeming.

He was preceded in death by three brothers William, Thomas, and James Beyer and two sisters Margaret Reed and Mary Lou Beyer.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Rose A. Rush

IRON MOUNTAIN - Rose A. (Hansen) Rush, 92, of Iron Mountain, entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, surrounded by her family at Hyland Nursing Home.

She was born on May 31, 1914, to Sicilian immigrant parents, Jake and Angela (Coraci) Libassi in Long Lake, Wis. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Breed, Wis. In her youth, she was an accomplished pianist, and with her brother and sister often performed in the Suring area.

Rose married Leonard Hansen in Suring in 1933. In 1943, they moved their family to Kingsford. Rose worked as a waitress in the area for many years, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

In 1956, she married Earl Bennett and was very fond of his children, Carol Heidenreich of Iron Mountain and Frank Bennett of Gaylord, whom she always held close to her heart. After moving to Albuquerque, where she lived and worked for 20 years, she returned to Iron Mountain in 1985 and lived at Hulst Manor.

Rose is survived by two sons, Noel (Carol) Hansen of Grafton, Wis. and Alan (Darlene) Hansen of Breitung Township; three daughters, Lola (Ronald) Johnson of Kingsford, Nina (Walt) Strand of Iron Mountain, and Mary (Michael) Lowe of Coos Bay, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents, three brothers, and two sisters, she was preceded in death by a son, Gale Hansen, who died tragically in a boating accident in 1960. The loss of her son broke her heart, and she never fully recovered, though she always maintained a loving relationship with his widow, Jean Lehto (Jim) West.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Rev. Stephen Cowen will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Ruphine "Ruth" Beaton

RALPH - Ruphine 'Ruth' Beaton, 82, of Ralph, died Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home.

Services to follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Vita M. Hedmark

FENCE, Wis. - Vita M. Hedmark, 88, of Fence, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born on March 2, 1919, in Chicago, the daughter of the late John and Angela Spatola.

Vita married Milan Hedmark on Sept. 15, 1945, in Chicago. The couple moved to Fence in 1946 where they owned and operated a dairy farm. They also raised horses and made maple syrup.

Vita enjoyed gardening and was an excellent baker.

Vita is survived by three sons, Bob (Sandy) Hedmark and Michael (Debra) Hedmark, both of Aurora, Wis. and Fred (Bonnie) Hedmark of Fence; two sisters, Annette Dematteo of Arizona and Lucy Graves of Chicago; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milan in 2001; a great-grandson, Milan in 2005; five brothers, Ernest, Rocky, Mike, Julio, and George; and three sisters, Clara Demassie, Jay Sperindeo, and Diana Hines.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to12 noon at Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 12 noon at the funeral home. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate.

Burial will be in the Fence cemetery.

The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Michael R. Burns

CHANNING - Michael Raymond Burns, 30, of Channing, died Friday, May 18, as a result of a boating accident on the Michigamme Reservoir. He was born March 18, 1977 in York, PA, son of Donald and Christine (Switt) Burns.

He came to this area as a child and has been a resident here since that time. Mike graduated from North Dickinson High School in 1995 and attended college for 2 years.

He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the NRA, the United Sportsman's Club of Merriman, the Sagola Sportsman's Club, and a volunteer fire fighter in Breen and Sagola Townships.

Mike loved to hunt and fish, and he mentored many young people in outdoor safety. He was also active with youth groups at youth camp. Mike was also a life guard. He was a member of the Witch Lake Baptist Church and the Felch Mountain Bible Church.

He is survived by his parents, Donald and Christine Burns of Channing,

his brother, Daniel Burns of Iron Mountain, and his sister, Susan (Ryan) Grondin of Gladstone, his dearly loved nephew, Gavin Grondin, his grandmother, Helen Burns McConnell of Pittsburgh, PA, several aunts and uncles; Linda Burns and her daughter Emily of PA, Eleanor Bond of Maine, Dorothy Pischke and Robert Switt, both of Indiana, Gregory Switt of Wis., and William Switt of Florida. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Stanley and Mary Switt, and paternal grandfather; Donald Burns Sr.

Friends may call on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.. at Erickson-Rochon & Nash funeral home in Iron Mountain.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a Scripture service with Rev. Blaine Donaldson and Rev. James Janofski presiding, followed by a time of sharing.

Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Rose Church in Channing.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Dick Mroz will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be at the Channing cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Sagola Township Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Mike's memory.

Florence M. Oja

Kingsford - Florence M. Oja, 86, of 1820 Mary's Way, Kingsford, formerly of Ironwood, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Hyland Nursing Home in Iron Mountain. She was born on October 31, 1920, daughter of the late Sigfred and Alice (Goodwin) Swanson. She attended the Ironwood Schools. She married Wilho 'Bill' Oja on August 12, 1937 at Salem Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death on July 5, 2006.

Florence was a delightful witty woman who loved life, her family, games, and reading. She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and crossword puzzle worker.

Florence owned and operated a dress shop in Ramsay, Michigan from 1953 to 1961. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the V.F.W Post #1823 Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by three brothers Walter, Charles, and Clarence.

Florence is survived by two daughters, Donna (Kenneth) VanHolla of Iron Mountain, and Sandra (Gerald) Felix of Williamsburg, VA

Five grandchildren Kim Renee' (Greg) Serba, Amy (Kurt) Hayes, Dr. David (Julie) VanHolla, Melanie Felix and Allison Felix, Seven great grandchildren, a sister Ellen Czerneski of Ironwood, and a brother, Willis (Joyce) Swanson of Dearborn, MI.

Florence was very dedicated to her family and will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 10:00am at the First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain. Burial will follow at Dickinson Co. Memorial Gardens.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Louis J. Branz

KINGSFORD - Louis J. Branz, 82, of Kingsford, formerly of Upper Pine Creek, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Memorial services to follow at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Marilyn L. Betters

IRON MOUNTAIN - Marilyn Louise Betters, 65, of 931 E. H St., Iron Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at her home.

Marilyn was born on March 6, 1942, in Mason City, Iowa, and was the daughter of the late Gerry and Caroline (Higgie) Miksa. She attended nursing college at Northern Michigan University and worked for several years as a licensed practical nurse in private health care. Marilyn married Edward J. Betters Jr. on Sept. 25, 1965, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

She actively volunteered at the Caring House and the Spring Lake Humane Society. Marilyn enjoyed needlepoint and jeweled decorations. She gathered and shipped donations to Romania, Iraq and Hurricane Katrina victims.

Marilyn is survived by her step children, Brian (Lori) Betters of Brooksville, Fla., Brad (Lori) Betters of Blairsville, Ga. and Debbie (David) Elton of Debary, Fla.; two brothers, James Miksa of Glendale, Ariz. and Bill Miksa of Hemet, Calif.; a niece, Laura (Darrell) Edwards of Hemet, Calif. and four grandchildren, Chad, Emma, Samantha and Taylor.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Memorial services will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Spring Lake Humane Society or the Dickinson County Cancer Unit.

Wilfred T. Beauchamp

KINGSFORD - Wilfred T. (Bill) Beauchamp, 86, a former longtime resident of Kingsford, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007, at his Linden Grove Health Care residence in Waukesha, Wis.

He was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Escanaba, the son of Wilfred Beauchamp Sr. and Aldia Gunville. Bill was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace parish in Kingsford. He was a graduate of Kingsford High School.

Bill and his wife, Florence Zablocki, were married on Aug. 22, 1942, in Kingsford. Before and after Bill's Army service in World War II, he was involved in the grocery business, operating stores first on Lyman Street and then on Sagola Avenue. Over the years in Kingsford, Bill was employed by Asselin Dairy, Lake Shore Industries and ultimately Inland Diesel.

The latter occasioned the Beauchamp family to relocate to Menomonee Falls, Wis. in 1965. A branch office opening in Iron Mountain found Bill returning to Kingsford to manage that facility. Following his retirement in 1982, Bill and Florence resided on Bluff Street for a number of years.

For relaxation and recreation, Bill enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting and traveling. He will be long remembered for his legendary cooking skills, especially at hunting camp.

Bill is survived by his son, Wilfred J. (Agnes) Beauchamp, of Loudon, Tenn.; daughter, Nancy J. Beauchamp of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his son, Lloyd S. (Joan) Beauchamp of Waukesha; three grandchildren, Barbara (Gary Petiprin), Alissa (fiance, Kevin) and Andrew; two great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Marion Beauchamp of Iron Mountain and Lorraine Beauchamp of Quinnesec and brother-in-law, Lyle Zablocki of Kingsford and will be fondly remembered by his special friend of many years, Geneva Caresia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; his sister, Bernice Poquette; and brothers, Lawrence Beauchamp and Donald Beauchamp.

Visitation will take place at Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Gravesides services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain. Deacon Don Christy will officiate.

A memorial mass will follow at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a favorite charity is suggested.

Carol Pericolosi

IRON MOUNTAIN - Carol Pericolosi, 78, of Iron Mountain, died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born on April 20, 1929, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Muller) Mitchell. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1949.

She married James Pericolosi at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain on Sept. 17, 1949.

She was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain.

Carol worked for the Dickinson Area Catholic Schools and the Iron Mountain Public Schools cooking for many years.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church on the northside, and a member of their Ladies Aid. She enjoyed helping others, visiting nursing homes, cooking, senior bus trips, coffee clutching on Saturdays and her monthly card club.

She especially loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in all of their athletic events and extracurricular activities.

Carol was also very proud of the family camp.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Vivian Sericati and Lucille Negri, and a brother, Russell Mitchell.

Carol is survived by her loving husband Jim, of nearly 58 years; son, Russ (Denise) Pericolosi of Iron Mountain and children, Melissa (Jim) Hewitt and Ryan Pericolosi; son, Pete (Kim) Pericolosi of Menominee, and son, Jacob Pericolosi; and son, Tom (Ann) Pericolosi of Breitung Township and children Jimmy, Tony, and Abby Pericolosi; brother, Ward (Donna) Mitchell of Kingsford; many special nieces and nephews; and many loyal and caring friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Snyder will officiate.

Burial will be held in cemetery Park in Iron Mountain at a later date.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in her memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.
