Angela Mae "Angie" Zanoni

QUINNESEC - Angela Mae 'Angie' Zanoni, 77, of Quinnesec, went to meet her Lord on Friday, July 6, 2007, surrounded by her loving family and the caring people at Maryhill Manor in Niagara.

Angie was born May 5, 1930, in Kingsford, daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Kure) Rozich. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1948 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Angie married Victor P. Zanoni on Oct. 5, 1957, at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford, where she grew up. She was employed at Michigan Bell Phone Co. and also worked for Dr. Richard Cecconi Sr. and Dr. Donald Heilala as a medical receptionist. Angie was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Quinnesec and Norway where she taught catechism and sang in the choir. She was a volunteer for the Maranatha Messengers and a member of the Breitung Township PTO scholarship committee. Angie enjoyed reading, walking, cooking, baking and taking care of others, especially her family. She was a full-time caregiver for her husband and many friends and neighbors. Angie was also a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She always put others first, was there for anyone in need and gave a warm smile to everyone she met. She loved to share stories and laugh. Angie was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Victor; son, Dan Zanoni of Norway; daughter, Vicki (Mark) Dulski of Silver Spring, Md.; a sister, Marge (Donald) Hamari of Kingsford; special nieces, Patti (Terry) Lidbeck, Diane (Paul) Donaldson, and JoAnn (Rich) Donaldson; special great nieces and nephews, Melissa and Kevin Lidbeck and Stephen, David, Lauren and Erika Donaldson; special great-great nephew, Christopher; brothers-in-law, Herman (Christine) Zanoni and Robert (Sally) Zanoni; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors.

Angie was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Zanoni.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

O'Diel T. Newman

FOSTER CITY - O'Diel T. Newman, 77, of Foster City, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 9, 1930, in Helps, the daughter of the late Jack Elroy and Edna (Murray) Cooper.

O'Diel graduated from North Central High School. She also attended cosmetology school and Bay de Noc Community College. She enjoyed drawing, dancing, and playing her harmonica and accordion.

She married Gilbert Newman on Aug. 10, 1956, in Perronville. Gilbert was a logger and the couple enjoyed working in the woods together. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1971.

O'Diel is survived by two children, Gilbert (Peggy Bagnell-Newman) Newman of Sturgeon Bay, Wis. and Shelby (Joe Mitchelson) Dixon of Kingsford; two sisters, Dolly Kramer of Iron Mountain and Iris Hall of Hardwood; four grandchildren, Ariel Dixon and Katie, Amanda, and Gilbert Matt Newman; a significant other, Dave Johnson of Felch; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Everett Cooper.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon at the funeral home. Deacon Wendell Sanders will officiate.

Burial will be in the Foster City cemetery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Lillian C. Eggert

IRON MOUNTAIN - Lillian C. Eggert, 93, of 712 Fairbanks St., Iron Mountain, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at Beverly Living Center in Florence.

Lillian was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Homestead, Wis. She was the daughter of the late Gustav and Agnes (Molander) Alexander. Lillian was raised in this area and was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School. She graduated from college as a registered nurse and worked for many years at County Hospital in Chicago before retiring in 1980.

In 1938, Lillian married Gilbert H. Eggert in Iron Mountain. Following her retirement in 1980, she and her husband returned to this area. Gilbert preceded her in death in 1986.

Lillian was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Kingsford Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed knitting, ceramics and loved gardening.

Lillian is survived by her three children, Shelley Geneva of Iron Mountain, Jeffery (Kristine) Eggert of Effingham, Ill. and Gary (Nancy) Eggert of Oak Park, Ill.; a sister, Violet Lieblong of Conway, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Rev. Debbie Thomas will officiate.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Carl J. Kriegl

HOMESTEAD, Wis. - Carl J. Kriegl, 88, of Homestead, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at the Beverly Living Center in Florence.

He was born on Nov. 4, 1918, in New Haven, Wis., son of the late Martin and Agnes (Walrath) Kriegl. Carl served for two years in the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician Third Class during World War II.

He married Florence Haas on June 8, 1940. She preceded him in death in November 1975. Carl married Doris Valitchka on Oct. 2, 1976. He worked as a welder for the Ford Motor Co. and Lake Shore Inc. until his retirement. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards and gardening. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Jerry (Donna) Kriegl of Quinnesec and Jack (Simone) Kriegl of Spread Eagle, Wis.; daughters, Yvonne (David) Olsen of Homestead and Sandy (Jay) Schabloski of Oshkosh, Wis.; stepchildren, Judy (Joe) Dolson and Dorothy Wilkey, both of Kelly Lake, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, Jaime (Tammy) Kriegl of Norway, Darren (Beverly) Kriegl of Escanaba, Shelley (Robert) Majewski of Peshtigo, Wis., Jennifer (Wyatt) Fisher of Oshkosh, Sue (Ron) Beauchamp of Ashwaubenon, Wis., Mike (Carrie) Olsen of Minneapolis, Deb (Jeff) Corbett of Brookfield, Wis., Joe (Laura) Kriegl of Kingsford, John (Nicole) Kriegl of Spread Eagle, Aundrea (John) Coon of Fond du Lac, Wis., Jaclynn (Jason) Kreider of Howell, Mich., Holly Schabloski of Oshkosh, J.P. (Angela) Schabloski of Oshkosh and Lauren Schabloski of Oshkosh; 27 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, Kelly Tomko of Lodi, Wis. and Robin and Diane Tomko of Florida; one step-great-grandchild and one step-great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Florence, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Herman Molle and brothers, Paul, Jess and Merle Kriegl.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Homestead Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Rev. Brad Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jaime Kriegl, Darren Kriegl, Mike Olsen, Joe Kriegl, John Kriegl and J.P. Schabloski.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

Elizabeth C. Peterson

NORWAY - Elizabeth C. Peterson, 88, of Norway, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis.

She was born on May 20, 1919, in Norway, the daughter of the late Edward and Eugene VanLaere.

Elizabeth graduated from Norway High School. She managed Bon Voyage Travel from 1967 until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, gardening, and working on puzzles.

She married William J. Peterson in Chicago on Dec. 23, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1977.

Elizabeth is survived by three daughters, Marie (George) McCaskey of Pembine, Wis., Linda Puchala of Glen Burnie, Md., and Chris (Richard) Phillips of Niagara; one son, Daniel (Nancy) Peterson of Superior; three sisters, Ann 'Tilly' Burner of Escondido, Calif., Renelda 'Red' Balinski of Iron Mountain, and Emily DeBaere of Lake Geneva, Wis.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie VanEynde, Rose Lundin, and Martha VanMatre and two brothers, Joseph and Louis 'Brow' VanLaere.

The memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway. Fr. James Roetzer will celebrate the Mass.

Visitation will follow in the parish hall.

Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Catherine "Cass" Rice

AURORA, Wis. - Catherine "Cass" R. Rice, 91, of Aurora, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born on April 9, 1916, daughter of the late Enerd and Goldie (Smith) Stebbin.

She married Lloyd Rice on June 11, 1988, and he preceded her in death on July 9, 1996.

She moved to Aurora in 1998 from near Adrian, Mich. with her husband after his retirement. She was a member of the Homestead Baptist Church and the Eastern Star. She was the Past Matron and life member of the Golden Rod 85 of Clinton, Mich. She was a former Girl Scout leader and enjoyed bowling.

Cass is survived by stepchildren, David (Jeannette) Rice of Aurora, Jim (Leiloni) Rice of Ann Arbor, Mich., Judy (Ken) Koch of Spokane, Wash., William Rice of Ypsilanti, Mich. and Carol (Donald) Massey of Florida; numerous step-grandchildren and a few nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be held today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Brad Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery in Clinton, Mich.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Geraldine Lori

NORWAY - Geraldine "Gerry" Lori, 80, of 415 Elm St., Norway, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at Pinecrest Medical Facility in Powers, where she has resided for the past two years.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1927, in Quinnesec, daughter of the late Roland and Victoria (Vondale) LaHaie. Geraldine was the 12th of 13 children and attended school in Quinnesec. During World War II, she worked in a sewing factory in Iron Mountain, making military coats for servicemen. She later moved to Chicago, where she lived with her sister and excelled at piecework in the garment industry. She also worked on radios for a military contractor in Chicago.

Geraldine married Joseph Lori on Oct. 13, 1951. She became an accomplished homemaker, known for her sewing, tremendous Italian meals and wide array of holiday cookies. She also enjoyed flower gardening, and belonged to various bowling leagues and card clubs while raising her three children. As her children left home and moved away, Geraldine enjoyed traveling to visit them in Negaunee, Ann Arbor, Germany and Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; three children, Jody (Todd Ray) Lori of Ann Arbor, Mich., Julie (Bruce Vielmetti) Lori of Mequon, Wis. and Jim (Connie) Lori of Negaunee; four sisters, Lorraine Thomas of Milwaukee, Wis., Genevieve Oliver of Kingsford, Louise (Wallace) Lindquist of Kingsford and Alice Antonori of Wyoming, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Christopher Recla, Ryan (Elizabeth) Recla, Dana, Max and Alex Vielmetti, and Eric and Jay Lori; and two great-grandsons, Riley and Rider.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Oliver, Raymond, Clifford and Robert LaHaie and four sisters, Dorothy Savoie, Irene Forstrom, Marie Cleary and Luella Henry.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Norway.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Fr. James Roetzer will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.

Waneta Fayas

KINGSFORD - Waneta Fayas, 65, of 200 East Sagola Ave., Kingsford, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007, at Aurora Bay Care Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

She was born Jan. 2, 1942, in Grand Marais, Mich., daughter of the late Elwood and Blanche (Cunningham) Walstrom.

Waneta married Paul Fayas on June 6, 1959, at the Assembly of God parsonage in Iron Mountain. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of the Church of God. Waneta was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, her dogs and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul; five children, Timothy (Cathy) Fayas of Green Bay, Wis., Scott (Mina) Fayas of Iron Mountain, Ken (Mindey) Fayas of Aurora, Wis., Linda (Gary) Mainville of Kingsford and Joyce (Michael) Maszka of Norway; six sisters, Marilyn Sam of Iron Mountain, Barbara (Clarence) Bennett of Kingsford, Lois Walstrom of Quinnesec, Eva (Farrin) Ethington of Iron Mountain, Sharon (Alan) Weber of Aurora, and Tina (Donald) Schoolfield of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Darcy Walstrom of Niagara, Wis.; 15 grandchildren, Michael Lanham, Timothy (Stacy) Fayas, Ryan Fayas, Andrea Pearey, April and Alyssa Fayas, Leah (Benjamin) Suazo, Kenny Fayas, Steve (Janet) Mainville, Matt Mainville, Andrew and Brittney Nichols, Michael Maszka, and Sara and Danielle Van Pembrook; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Miron and a brother, Elwood 'sonny' Walstrom who donated one of his kidneys to Waneta and gave her an extra 10 years of life.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Dialysis Unit at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Olive Helen Bailey

IRON MOUNTAIN - Helen Bailey, 95, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Tendercare of Midland.

Helen was born on May 31, 1912, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Verner C. and Olive B. (McFee) Freeman.

She married Edward M. Bailey on May 24, 1941.

While residing in Saginaw, she had worked for a local area bank, and for many years at the Saginaw Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Helen was an active member for many years of the First United Presbyterian Church of Kingsford. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family on boating trips and cross country vacations.

She loved being a mother and grandmother.

She will be lovingly and sadly missed by her grandson, Aaron (Amy) Joley of Nashville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, Suzanne Mogan of Chicago, Marc (Creston) Mogan of Iron Mountain, Anessa (John) Mogan-Manuel of Chicago, and Martina Mogan of Downingtown, Pa. and countless relatives and friends she so lovingly touched through the years.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Edward M. Bailey; daughter, Kathleen Joley; son-in-law, Thomas Joley, and her brother and sister-in-law, Verner and Marion Freeman.

Helen's family will receive friends at the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in cemetery Park .

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Tendercare of Midland.

Tondin-Ross and Freeman funeral home is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
