Allan Carlson

QUINNESEC - Allan Lee Carlson, 72, of Lake Antoine Road in Quinnesec, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara, Wis.

Allan was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Iron Mountain, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (LaLonde) Carlson.

He attended Kingsford High School and worked many years, retiring from the Hanna Mining Co.

Allan enjoyed visiting with friends and family, playing cards, and enjoying the outdoors. He was a wonderful father and will be dearly missed by Terry Jo.

He is survived by one daughter, Terry Jo (Tom) Vanvick of Arizona; a brother, Eldon Carlson of Wells; many nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces; and a good friend and neighbor, Joe (Jean) Fornetti.

Allan was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David A. Carlson; a brother, Ellsworth Carlson and a sister, Edith 'Toots' (Jerome) Beaulier.

Per Allan's request, no public services will be held.

Private graveside services will be held at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain at later date.

Special thanks to nephews and caregivers, Donald 'Butch' Carlson and Jerome Beaulier.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Frank Larson

FOSTER CITY - Frank R. Larson, 90, of Foster City, passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers where he resided during the past eight months.

He was born on June 28, 1917, in Chicago, and worked for more than 40 years as a foreman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Not many people can say they loved their work, but Frank certainly did. After his retirement, he served as a bailiff for the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department.

Some of his greatest joys were going out to hunting Camp '4-Generations' with his son and grandsons, fishing, camping, golfing, playing baseball in his younger days, and visiting with his special buddies that stopped by almost daily to check on him, and we thank them all for that.

Frank loved music and getting together with his family and friends singing and playing his harmonica and musical instruments to all the good old tunes, especially church hymns which Marie loved so well.

He married the love of his life, Marie Varney of Foster City on July 3, 1938. They were blessed with two children

Frank is survived by a son, Darrell (Sharon) Larson of Foster City; a daughter, June (Ron) Huck of Crestview, Fla.; a brother, Harold (Pauline) Larson of Hebron, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Deloris Carlson of Foster City; grandchildren, Dean (Dawn) Larson of Foster City, Annette (Kevin) Rose of Florence, Wis., David (Darlene) Kempton of Crestview, Fla., Dan (Danielle) Kempton of Kingsford and Colleen Vice and Kathy Whitt, both of Kenosha, Wis.;13 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Margaret (Coburn) Larson; his beloved wife, Marie in 1996; a brother, Edward Larson; and twin sisters, Marie Larson and Ethel Numsen.

Frank's wishes were to be cremated with no services. He will be laid to rest next to his wife Marie in the Foster City cemetery.

The family would like to express a very special thanks to his doctors, nurses, aids and staff at Pinecrest where he enjoyed his past few months and had such wonderful loving care.

The family has entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Dawn Lee "Gale" Wellnitz

IRON MOUNTAIN - Dawn Lee 'Gale' Wellnitz, 75, of Iron Mountain, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at her home.

She was born on July 3, 1932, in Kingsford, the daughter of the late Ann and Arthur Bjorklund

Gale graduated from Kingsford High School in 1950. She graduated from Columbia School of X-ray at Columbia Hospital in 1955. Gale was an X-ray technician at the hospital and worked for Northpointe, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Gale is survived by one daughter, Ann (Ed) Bartus of Iron Mountain; two sons, Michael (Angie) Wellnitz of Niagara, Wis. and John (Sylvia) Wellnitz of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Patrick (Barbara) Lee of Milwaukee; one brother-in-law, Bill Payant of Sun City, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Veronica B. "Ronnie" Crosson

KINGSFORD - Veronica B. 'Ronnie' Crosson, 65, of 372 Cass Ave. in Kingsford, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at her home.

Ronnie was born Jan. 23, 1942, in Chicago. She graduated from St. Sebastian High School in Chicago in 1959.

Ronnie worked in management for Underwriters Salvage Co. of Illinois for more than 30 years, retiring in 1995. Upon retiring, Ronnie moved from the Chicago area to Kingsford and has resided here since that time.

She was a devout member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain where she was very involved with the ministries for the sick, homebound and institutionalized.

Ronnie was also a member of the 3rd Order of Carmelites and was very devoted to the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. She was well-known at the church for her spirit to volunteer and was always dedicated to offering her services when ever needed.

Ronnie enjoyed knitting and crocheting gifts for people. She was especially proud of her 30 day trip to the Holy Land where she visited many countries and the Grotto of Our Lady of Fatima.

She is survived by a brother, Michael (Cindy) Crosson of Wonderlake, Ill.; two sisters, Judy Crosson of Kingsford and Delores 'Laurie' (Ronald) Gregie of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Alice Crosson of Kingsford; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, Frank Crosson; and two nephews, Joe and Mike Crosson.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral in Iron Mountain.

Recitation of the rosary will take place at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Channing cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Debra D. Rouse

NIAGARA, Wis. - Debra D. Rouse, 51, of Niagara, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

She was born on Aug. 25, 1956, in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late James and Harriett (Babcock) Mitchell.

Debbie graduated from Hyland Academy High School. She worked at Marcoullier's Grocery Store and at Doug's Hilltop. Debbie enjoyed reading. She attended the Iron Mountain Community Church of Seventh Day Adventists.

She married Robert Rouse on Nov. 17, 1987, in Iron Mountain.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; three stepchildren, Robert Rouse Jr. of Felch, Kevin (Minnie) Rouse Sr. of Niagara, and Shantel Rouse of Niagara; five sisters, Janice Rossiter of Arkansas, Wanda Collins of Norway, Ginny (Paul) Schewe of Pembine, Mary Ann 'Fern' Austin of Sault Ste. Marie, and Kim Rousey of Washington; one brother, Tim (Wendy) Mitchell of Tennessee; three step-grandchildren, Courtney Rouse, Kayla Rouse, and Kevin Rouse Jr.; a special aunt, Fannie Skog of Iron River; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daugher Esther.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Nephew will officiate.

Burial will be in the Niagara cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth M. St. Juliana

KINGSFORD - Elizabeth M. St. Juliana, 87, of Kingsford, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

She was born on July 8, 1920, in Gwinn, daughter of the late Phillip and Eva (Borden) Nault. She married Leno St. Juliana on Sept. 6, 1941, in Spalding, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2004. Together with her husband, they owned and operated the Michi-Aho Motel in the Crystal Falls area for 11 years. Betty has lived in the area since 1946. She was a member of the St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Betty is survived by two sons, Leno (Patricia) St. Juliana of Crystal Falls and Dr. Ronald (Linda) St. Juliana of Dunnellon, Fla.; three brothers, James (Barbara) Nault of Escanaba, Wallace (MaryAnn) Nault of Highland Park, Ill. and Phillip (Marion) Nault Jr. of Lakewood, Ohio; three sisters, Ethel Dean of Wadsworth, Ill., Lorraine (Joseph) Wade of Chesapeake, Va. and Rose (Norman) Zenko of Gurnee, Ill.; six grandchildren, Leno Jason (Kim) St. Juliana, Dennis Michael St. Juliana, Justin St. Juliana, Alexis Elizabeth St. Juliana, Elizabeth Marie Walsh, and Jeffery Brian Wasilewski; one great-grandson, Tanner Dean St. Juliana; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Willard and Leonard Nault, and two sisters, Evelyn Borman and Theresa Schenk.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford.

The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Michael Woempner will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Teresa M. Bessolo

KINGSFORD - Teresa M. Bessolo, 85, of Kingsford, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

She was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Negaunee, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Bessolo. She worked as a self-employed housekeeper for most of her life. Teresa was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She was a member of the ladies guild, and the Parish Service Commission for many years, writing letters to people of the church for more than 30 years. She enjoyed gardening.

Teresa is survived by a special friend and caregiver, Clarice Allen of Hastings, Mich.

She is also survived by several cousins and many special friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Kingsford.

The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Fr. Paul Nomellini will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be at Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Robert R. Menghini

KINGSFORD - Robert R. Menghini, 82, of Kingsford, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.

He was born March 29, 1925, in Norway, son of the late Floriano and Edith (Tamanini) Menghini. Bob was a 1943 graduate of Norway High School. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served three years before being honorably discharged from the service in 1946.

During his naval training in Princeton, N.J., he was recruited to play football for Columbia University in New York City. His desire to return to the Upper Peninsula brought him back to attend college at Northern Michigan University under the GI bill. Bob received degrees from Northern Michigan University and the University of Michigan.

On June 26, 1948, he married the former Shirley Johnson in Norway.

Bob began his teaching career in Troy, Mich. and then Channing High School where he also coached varsity boys basketball. He continued his teaching career at Iron Mountain Central Junior High and Iron Mountain High School where he also coached varsity boys basketball. He was named principal at Central Junior High School (K-8).

While at Iron Mountain Schools, Bob was director of Camp Sanford and was awarded the Peter Trudell Conservation Education Award. He was instrumental in the planting and maintenance of the Iron Mountain school forest on Pine Mountain Road. Bob retired with 37 years of dedicated service to educating children.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to camp with his brothers and spending time with his family, especially his five grandsons.

Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Susan (Wayne) Backlund of Marshall, Mich. and Spread Eagle, Wis., Kristine Deckett of Tawas City, Mich. and Joan (Larry) Swartout of Iron Mountain; brothers, Floyd 'Cracker' (Dorothy) Menghini of Loretto, Clarence 'Tony' (Marge) Menghini of Kingsford and Wallace 'Doc' (Gwen) Menghini of Kingsford; a sister-in-law, Norma Zemek of Eagan, Minn.; grandsons, Robert Backlund of Jackson, Wyo., David Deckett of Tawas City and Thomas, Alex and Andrew Swartout of Iron Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest 'Boots' Menghini, Rudolph 'Dolpho' Menghini, Herman 'Mono' Menghini and August 'Jake' Menghini and a sister, Ann Zeni.

Private family services were held.

Mary Jane Gendron

Iron Mountain - Mary Jane Gendron, 81, of Iron Mountain, was promoted to glory on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers. She was born on Sept. 13, 1926 in Negaunee, the daughter of the late William and Clara (Penhale) Smail.

Mary Jane graduated from Negaunee High School and worked for the government in Washington D.C. during World War II. She was a secretary at social services and Breitung Township Schools. Mary Jane had a strong faith. She was a member of Quinnesec United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church Women, the Royal Neighbors of America, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary Jane was named the Dickinson County Volunteer of the Year.

In her later years, Mary Jane was an honor student at Bay de Noc Community College.

She married Arthur Gendron on March 19, 1949 in Negaunee. He preceded her in death in 2003.

She is survived by five daughters Linda (Bob) Peronto of High Point, NC, Paula (Dale) Corsi of Williamston, MI, Debra (Michael) Polzin of Pembine, Trina Gendron of Iron Mountain, and Pamla (Derrick) Tyner of Niagara, two sisters Marjorie Hodgins of Kingsford and Carol Trudell of Negaunee, one brother Lowell Smail of Ishpeming, thirteen grandchildren Christopher (Patrice) Peronto, Aaron (Christy) Peronto, Jeremy (Brenda) Johnson, Jessica (Israel) Rivera, Stephanie (Matt Lucas) Corsi, Stephen Corsi, Dario Corsi, Diana Corsi, Shannon Tirschel, Arthur (Jessica) Doers, Nathan Harper, Natalie (Kenneth Kasten) Harper, and Jonathan Tyner and eight great grandchildren Madeline and Owen Peronto, Bayleigh Johnson, Austyn St. Vincent, Bryce Bortles, Alexandra Rivera, and Tyler Corsi-Lucas and Camryn Doers, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be Fri. from 5-6pm at Quinnesec United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be at 6:00pm at the church. Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.

The Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
