Andrew J. Butsic
KINGSFORD - Andrew Joseph Butsic, 89, of 857 East Breen Ave. in Kingsford, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
He was born June 3, 1918, in Vulcan, son of the late Jacob and Cunigunda (Czynowski) Butsic. Andy graduated from Vulcan High School in 1936, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
He was a United States Air Force veteran of World War II, serving with the 347th Fighter Squadron in overseas operations through North Africa, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and Italy from 1942 until the end of hostilities in Europe in 1945.
Andy married
Joyce Kanska on Sept. 30, 1950, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. He was a journeymen ironworker working out of Local Union 783-8, where he was a 50-year member. Andy was also a long time member of American Martyrs Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
Andy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce; three sons, William (Jane) Butsic of Menominie, Wis., Lawrence (Cindy) Butsic of Greenville, Mich. and David (Camille) Butsic of Iron Mountain; four grandchildren, Emily (Bryan) Mercer, Van Butsic and Eric and Celeste Butsic; two sisters-in-law, Edna Nash and Norma Price; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward (Jeanette) Butsic, Anthony (Mary) Butsic, John Butsic and Frank Butsic; three brothers-in-law, Gerald (Alice) Kanska, Charles Nash and John Price; and a sister-in-law, Bette (Ted) Hallman.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.
Andrew's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Dorothy J. Mansy
AURORA, Wis. - Dorothy J. Masny, 84, of Aurora, died, Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Beverly Living Center in Florence.
Dorothy was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Norway, the daughter of the late Henry Sr. and Gertrude (Beer) Dyer. Dorothy was raised in this area and was a 1941 graduate of Kingsford High School.
She moved to Racine, Wis. following high school and married
Joseph Masny. Following their retirement, they returned to Aurora in 1980. Joseph preceded her in death in 1991.
Dorothy was a member of the Aurora Free Church, Ladies Aid of the church, the Aurora Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the area Widows Club. She had been a volunteer at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center for 20 years.
Dorothy was an antique collector and flower gardener. She and her husband traveled to many parts of the world and after his death, she continued to travel extensively with many friends from the area. She was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Beverly Pollock of Appleton, Wis.; nephews, Robert (Kathy) Pollock, Thomas (Patricia) Pollock, Bill (Cathy) Dyer and Scott (Kathy) Dyer; and her niece, Linda Dyer.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Dyer; a sister-in-law, Marge Anderson Dyer; a brother-in-law, Carl Pollock and her niece, Kathy Orange.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Aurora Free Church.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Rev. Carl Utzat will officiate.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her memory to the Beverly Living Center or the Aurora Free Church.

Anna Richards
IRON MOUNTAIN - Anna M. Richards, 85, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at ManorCare Health Systems in Kingsford.
She was born on April 2, 1922, in Washburn, Wis., daughter of the late George and Mildred (Molnaa) Anderson. She married
Charles F. Richards in Detroit in 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1954.
She attended school in Kingsford, and returned for her diploma and graduated in 1981. Anna worked in the meat department at the Super Value from Oct. 10, 1963, until retiring on March 29, 1985. She moved back to the area in 1954 after the death of her husband Charles.
She was a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. She was the treasurer of the bowling league for many years. She loved knitting and crocheting, and made many people happy, especially at church with her baby blankets, prayer shawls, and bandages, she was always there to help. Anna was one of the world's biggest country music fans. Charlie Pride was her idol. She had gone with family every year to the Hodag, Porterfield, and Motongator country music festivals.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte (Neil) Edwards of Iron Mountain; a granddaughter, Lisa Sarder of Iron Mountain; two great-grandsons, Brad and Corey Sarder; sisters, Dorothy Maule of Kingsford, Thalia (Robert) Cocking of Iron Mountain, Betsie Benzie of Norway, and Karen (Cliff) Peronto of Kingsford; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Anderson in 2005.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow at 12 noon Wednesday at the church. Pastor Lee Liverance will officiate.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anna's great-grandsons, Brad and Corey Sarder; nephews, Tony Benzie and Mike and Joe Plourde; and friend of the family, Kyle Frendewey.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.

Rodney J. Gedvick
KINGSFORD - Rodney J. Gedvick, 62, of Kingsford, died Tuesday, Feb.19, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born on Aug. 10, 1945, in Felch, son of the late Oliver and Effie (Davidson) Gedvick. He grew up in Felch and graduated from North Dickinson High School.
Rodney worked for Grede Foundries for 37 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed four-wheeling, hunting, and logging.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Patrick) Karle of Niagara, Wis. and Amy Gedvick (Larry Horsey) of Kingsford; five grandchildren, Orrie and Alyssa, and Tyler, Kaitlin and Kristen; a brother, Hollis Gedvick; three sisters, Mary Barrow, Kay Conery, and Judy (Louis) Orler; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in the Felch cemetery in the spring.

Michael R. Neuens
SPRING HILL, Fla. - Michael R. Neuens, 57, of Spring Hill, formerly of Aurora, Wis., died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, in Spring Hill.
He was born on Aug. 14, 1950, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Jane (Hughes) Neuens.
Michael was born and raised in Aurora. He graduated from Florence High School in 1968, and was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mike loved to golf and hunt. He has lived in Florida for the past 25 years.
Michael is survived by his two daughters, Michele (Jeff) Buckner of Iron Mountain and Sheri (Jason) Brault of Beaver Dam, Wis.; four brothers, Larry (Barb) Neuens of Homestead, Wis., Dennis (Sandy) Neuens of Aurora, Wis., Jim (Pat) Neuens of Green Bay, Wis. and Geno (Sally) Neuens of Aurora; two sisters, Judy Kernan of Houston and Pat (Lloyd) Siebert of Green Bay; four grandchildren, Casey and Cody Buckner and Cassandra and Kailey Brault; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in spring.
Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Rudolph "Rudy" Turk
KINGSFORD - Rudolph 'Rudy' Turk, 98, of Kingsford, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
He was born Nov. 11, 1909, in Calumet, son of the late John and Clara (LeFlesh) Turk.
He is survived by one brother-in-law and several sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile in 2004; two brothers, John Turk and Roy Turk; and two sisters, Clara Palmer and Alice Defnet.
A committal service will be held in the spring next to his wife, Cecile, at cemetery Park. Fr. Michael Woempner will officiate.

Inga B. Omholdt
IRON MOUNTAIN - Inga B. Omholdt, 98, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford, having been in their loving care since 2004.
Inga was born on April 29, 1910, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Knute and Inga (Meyers) Omholdt. She was a lifelong resident of the area.
Inga enjoyed music and played the violin. As a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Iron Mountain, she 'graced' them with her violin playing on Christmas eves of the past. She had a great love of animals, especially German shepherd dogs, and cats.
After attending nursing school at Northern Michigan University, she worked for many years in a doctor's office as a practical nurse.
She is survived by a niece, Merna Wolfslayer of Detroit and a nephew, Ken Wolfslayer of Pennsylvania.
Inga was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Omholdt and two sisters, Alice Spencer (wife of the late James Spencer and sister-in-law of Stanley Spencer) and Sigrid Wolfslayer.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Debbie Thomas will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Joan Marie Chagnon
IRON MOUNTAIN - Joan Marie Chagnon, 69, of 736 East C St. in Iron Mountain, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008.
She was born Feb. 5, 1939, in Ironwood, daughter of Ellen (Swanson) Sertich and the late Emil Sertich. Joan lived in L'Anse and Baraga for most of her life, and had lived with her daughter in Iron Mountain for the past few years. She loved to crochet and had made many beautiful creations. Joan was also known for being an excellent cook.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Haanpaa of Iron Mountain and Jo Ellen (Charlie) Webb of Covington; her mother, Ellen Czerneski of Hurley, Wis.; three brothers, Bob (Ginny) Sertich of Racine, Wis., Mike (Cookie) Czerneski of Ironwood and David (Patty) Czerneski of Ironwood; brother-in-law, Gary Kusz of Ironwood; 10 grandchildren, Kenny 'skip' Brown, Jeremy Brown, Jerry Lancour, Eric Haanpaa, Amelia Haanpaa, Robert Haanpaa, Scott Haanpaa, Emily Rose, Jessica Webb and Laura Webb; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jody Brown; an infant twin sister, Jean Ann Sertich; her sister, Cathy Kusz; and by her special friend, Roger Chagnon.
Friends may call from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. James Chinery will officiate.

Robert W. Norris
AURORA, Wis. - Robert W. Norris, 80, of Aurora, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at the Golden Nursing Center in Florence, Wis.
He was born on July 27, 1927, in Huntingdon, Penn., son of the late David J. and Edna May (Miller) Norris. He graduated from high school and went on to Penn State for one year before being drafted.
He served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers during World War II in Germany.
After the war, he worked as a civilian with the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Va. as an instructor, and later with research and development until retiring on Jan. 2, 1984. During his career with the Army, he served as communications chief for Harry S. Truman, and as an honor guard at Arlington National cemetery.
Bob married
Nancy Peterson on Sept. 4, 1981, in Belle Haven, Va. and together they moved to the area in 1992. His passion was boating, he liked to play pinochle and eat crab.
Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, Joan Norris and Robert W. Norris, both of Alexandria, Va., and Richard Norris of Fredericksburg, Va.; two stepsons, Larry (MaryKaye) Cochran of Midlothian, Va., and Gary (Cindy) Cochran of Wetumpka, Ala.; and step-grandchildren, Raphael and Raven, Jason, Samuel, Lauren, Clifton and Charles.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the funeral home. Pastor Brad Moore will officiate.
Burial will be in the spring in the Aurora-Homestead cemetery.

John R. "Big John" Nanninga
IRON MOUNTAIN - John R. 'Big John' Nanninga, 63, of 702 Fifth St., Iron Mountain, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
John was born Nov. 21, 1944, in Chicago, the son of the late George and Ida (Schaff) Nanninga. John has lived in the area for 31 years coming from Chicago. He worked as a lead man at Grede Foundries for many years.
John married
Shannon Barker on June 24, 1996, in Las Vegas. He enjoyed going to building and home shows, the fair and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Shannon; three children, Robert (Janet) Nanninga of Aurora, Wis. and their children, Emma and Anne, James (June) Nanninga of Kingsford and their children, Jeremiah, Jolene and Jessica and Cindy (Bob) Hendrickson of Iron Mountain and their daughters, Erin, Sarah, Sakita and Sahayra; a brother, George (Joanne) Nanninga of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Elaine Schumacher of Holland, Mich.; special friends, Ron and Danny and a niece and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his twin brother, Jimmy and a brother, Neil.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
A memorial service will follow Thursday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Keith Wall will officiate.
