Ernest L. Lidbeck

KINGSFORD - Ernest L. Lidbeck, 72, of 505 E. Sagola Ave. in Kingsford, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain after a two year battle with cancer.

Ernest was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Iron Mountain son of the late Ernest and Alice (Patrick) Lidbeck. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany.

On Oct. 8, 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Marcelini. Ernest and Darlene lived in Milwaukee, where Ernest went to barber school. Upon completion of that schooling, they moved to Appleton where Ernest was a barber and eventually worked for Bergstrom Chevrolet. For a period of time, Ernest and Darlene had moved back to the Kingsford area to buy a family grocery store, Lidbeck's Market. After retiring, Ernest worked part-time as a security guard at Grede Foundry.

He loved music, wood carving, working in gardens and spending time with his family. He will be missed by everyone who's lives he touched.

Ernest leaves his wife, Darlene; a son, Larry Lidbeck; two daughters, Penny (Alan) Hildebrand and Tammy (Chris) Clash; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Steinbach, Brittany, Joseph, Nicholas, and Tiffany Hildebrand and Corey and Tyler Clash; one great-granddaughter, Paige Steinbach; and many nieces and nephews.

Ernest was preceded in death by a brother, Don Lidbeck and a sister, Karen Hoes.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford.

A memorial Mass will follow Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in Quinnesec cemetery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Rudolph "Rudy" Marketto

IRON MOUNTAIN - Rudolph 'Rudy' Marketto, 84, of 1300 Michigan Ave. in Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at his home.

Rudy was born March 18, 1923, in Crystal Falls, son of the late Archie and Mary (Brollo) Marketto. He served during World War II as a radar operator with the United States Army Air Corp.

On Aug. 21, 1948, he married the former Phyllis Recla. Rudy worked for the Northrange Mining Co. in Amasa for several years and following their closure moved to California where he worked for the Cal/Am Water Co. for 25 years. He retired in 1985 and returned to this area in 1986. Rudy was a member of American Martyrs Church and the Crystal Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. Rudy was the Upper Peninsula archery champion for three years. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed all sports and sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his son, Scott Marketto of Negaunee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Denise Recla of Quinnesec, Daniel (Eileen) Cwik of Crystal Falls, June Recla of Green Bay, Wis., Marjorie Marketto of California and Claudia Marketto of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Rudy was preceded in death by two brothers, John Marketto and Louis Marketto and a sister, Jerri Spinato-Ganung.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford.

Funeral services will b held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Crystal Falls cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

The Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is handling the arrangements.

Raymond J. "Pete" France

IRON MOUNTAIN - Raymond J. 'Pete' France, 80, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, in Sparta, N.J.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Arthur J. Paske

GOODMAN, Wis. - Arthur J. Paske, 76, of Goodman, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Barbara J. "Bobbie" Ehgotz

KINGSFORD - Barbara J. 'Bobbie' Ehgotz, 78, of 1801 Mary's Way in Kingsford, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at her home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

Graveside services will take place at cemetery Park in Iron Mountain in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners.

A complete obituary will follow in Friday's paper.

Rosemary Hagberg

KINGSFORD - Rosemary T. Hagberg, 65, of 160 N. Pyle Drive in Kingsford, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at her home.

Rosemary was born on Oct. 10, 1942, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late John and Louise (Calcaterra) Leroux. She was a 1960 graduate of Kingsford High School and has been a lifelong resident of Kingsford.

Rosemary retired in 1996 after working for 35 1/2 years as the deputy register of deeds at the Dickinson County Courthouse.

She married Thomas 'Barney' Hagberg on Feb. 27, 1975, at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Rosemary has been a lifelong member of American Martyrs Church and the St. Therese Circle of the church. She loved cooking, playing cards, going to shows at the casino and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Barney; a brother, Bob (Nancy) Leroux of Strongsville, Ohio; a sister, Kay (Leroy) Johnson of Felch; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herb (Sharon) Hagberg of Iron Mountain and Russ (Ruth) Hagberg of Iron Mountain; nieces and nephews, Andre (Keri) Leroux, Kristyn (Paul) Tousignant, Erica Leroux, Amy Johnson, Lisa (Michael) Dionne, Gary (Tammy) Hagberg, Michelle (Kurt) Stebic, Melanie Hagberg and Melissa (Ron) Maki and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at American Martyrs Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.

Burial will be in cemetery Park.

Pallbearers will be Herb Hagberg, Ken Davis, Leroy Johnson, Bruce LeBlanc, Ted Kleikamp, Mike Dionne, Mike Karman, Gary Hagberg, and Steve Branz.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory at American Martyrs Church.

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Kelly J. Mauck

HIXTON, Wis. - Kelly J. Mauck, 42, of Hixton, died on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Garfield Township in Jackson County, Wis.

Kelly was born on March 8, 1965, in Springfield, Ohio, to parents Cliff and Joanne (Archer) Mauck. She grew up in the Niagara, Wis., and graduated from Niagara High School.

Kelly graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a minor in mathematics. She started her career as a fifth and sixth grade teacher in Weslaco, Texas, where she taught for four years. She then taught for two years in the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School District in northeast Wisconsin as an eighth grade teacher and Title I teacher. She began teaching with the Black River Falls School District in 1995 as a Title I teacher at Hixton Elementary and Forrest Street Elementary School. She started as a regular classroom teacher at the Black River Falls Middle School in the fall of 2005. While in the Black River Falls School District, Kelly received her master of arts degree in education from Viterbo University in 1997.

Kelly was a very dedicated, enthusiastic educator. She was extremely passionate about her role as a teacher and truly cared about each and every one of her students. She was a member of the Black River Falls Education Association and currently held the office of secretary-treasurer.

Outside of teaching, Kelly had a wide variety of talents and interests. She loved caring for her two poodles, Bailey and Chole. She enjoyed cooking, especially candy making which she learned from her mother. English toffee, mint fudge and caramels were some of her specialties. She enjoyed gardening and landscaping her home with plants and flowers. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and she liked to listen to uplifting music, both contemporary and gospel. She also enjoyed taking trips to Idaho to visit her brother and his family.

Kelly is survived by her parents, Cliff and Joanne Mauck of Sagola; one brother, Craig (Joyce) Mauck of Boise, Idaho; special friends, Ruth and Larry Casper of Hixton; two aunts, Shirley Swetnam of Westerville, Ohio and Naomi Scales of Sheridan, Wyo.; one niece, Allison Mauck; one nephew, Jason Mauck; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Raymond (Margaret) Mauck and Joseph (Lulu) Archer.

A celebration of life for Kelly Jo Mauck will be held today at 7 p.m. in the Lunda Community Theater in Black River Falls.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the Lunda Theater in Black River Falls. Arrangements were with Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home of Hixton.

On Thursday, funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara with burial in the Niagara cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church.

Niagara arrangements are being handled by the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.

Memorials may be directed to a scholarship fund in Kelly's memory through the Coop Credit Union of Black River Falls, Wis.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Clarence H. Blomquist

KINGSFORD - Clarence H. Blomquist, 95, of Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 10, 1912, in Metropolitan, the son of the late Matthew and Sanna (Gustafson) Blomquist. Clarence was in the first graduating class at Felch High School, the class of 1929.

Clarence married Carolyn Busse on June 17, 1944. The couple farmed and logged until 1957. Clarence then attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for two years and transferred to Northern Michigan University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1961.

He received his master's degree in 1970 from NMU. Clarence taught in Hermansville, Felch, Channing, and North Dickinson Schools, before retiring in 1978. After retiring, Clarence moved to Kingsford.

In the 1950s, Clarence served as the justice of the peace for Felch Township. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. He and Carolyn enjoyed traveling and visited six different continents. They were also in a bowling league. Clarence was a current member of First Covenant Church. He adored his great-grandchildren.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; two children, Gay (Wayne) Funderburg of Quinnesec and Gary (Cheri) Blomquist of Reno, Nev.; five grandchildren, Carianne Blomquist, Adam Blomquist, Scott Blomquist, Hope Aderman, and Tim Funderburg; three great- grandchildren, Isaac, Melody, and Grace Aderman, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lydia Blomquist and Signe Nygard, and six brothers, Edwin, Arvid, Gustav, Henry, William, and Bernard Blomquist and two grandchildren, James and Faith Funderburg.

Visitation will be held tonight from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

A time of sharing will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

There will also be a visitation on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate.

Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bruce Aderman, John Cootware, Bill Schneider, Chuck Schneider, David Siegler, and Dorn Siegler.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Richard Fischer

IRON MOUNTAIN - Richard C. Fischer, 87, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 29, 1920, in Chicago, the son of the late Henry and Elsie (Dietze) Fischer. He grew up in Illinois, graduating from Schurz High School. He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology graduating on Oct. 17, 1943, with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. Richard served with the United States Navy during World War II. He married Judith Nykodem in Edison Park, Ill. on Jan. 6, 1966.

He worked as the plant manager of P.A. Sturtevant Co. and later retired from Dresser Industries in 1978. He enjoyed gardening, snowmobiling, fishing, camping, logging and working with his hands. He liked to do anything himself, he was very handy and independent.

Richard is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judith of Iron Mountain; sons, Richard (Mary) Fischer of Lisle, Ill. and Reid Fischer of Iron Mountain; stepdaughter, Linda (George) Overbeek of Wisconsin; a sister, Marilyn Fischer of Mount Prospect, Ill.; and grandchildren, Ryan and Rick Fischer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Randall Fischer on Dec. 6, 2001, and a brother, Bob Fischer in 1985.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in the Mount Emblem cemetery in Elmhurst, Ill.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Jerry Tuomela

IRON MOUNTAIN - Gerald 'Jerry' Tuomela, 81, of Iron Mountain, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, in Chandler, Ariz.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1927, in Ishpeming, the son of the late Emil and Ina (Maki) Tuomela. Jerry was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Kingsford High School. He was a former ski jumper with Kiwanis Ski Club. He served with the United States Army in the Korean War. He was also very proud of his years of construction on the Mackinac Bridge from 1954-1957.

Jerry married Alice Turk on Feb. 27, 1960. Jerry and Alice owned and operated Twin City Cleaners for more than 35 years. He was an avid golfer and a member of Pine Grove Country Club for 48 years. He was a devoted Packer fan. Jerry loved spending his winters in Arizona with all of his Arizona friends.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Alice of Iron Mountain; sons, William Tuomela of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Robert (Mary) Tuomela of Breitung Township; daughter, Connie (Gary) Jacobson of Breitung Township; grandchildren, Mallory and Taylor Jacobson, and Krista and Eric Tuomela; great-grandchild, Jacob; his sister, Nancy (Roy Isaacson) Swanson of Ishpeming; brother-in-law, Gene (Gwenyth) Turk of Chandler, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Bella Turk of Kingsford; and several nieces and nephews and his special friends, Dick and Helen McKenzie of Kingsford.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m Thursday. Pastor Stephen Cowen will officiate.

A gathering of friends and family will be held after the service at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.

Pallbearers will be Bill Tuomela, Bob Tuomela, Eric Tuomela, Gary Jacobson, Gene Turk, and Dick McKenzie.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution will be made to Northwoods Airlifeline in Jerry's memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home with the arrangements.
